Decided to try Graingers, after living a few minutes away for several years, for my son's 21st birthday. It was the perfect spot. We got a bunch of appetizers and obviously a bunch of drinks. This was a recommendation from a while ago, like a year and a half or more that I should try the fish fry so I stopped by after work to grab some takeout. The place is spacious with an outdoor patio and daily specials. They do have some tappers with a nice variety If domestic beer is not your thing. The crowd was small with older loud people and the place was very loud for how few people were in the bar I thought. The bar tender was very friendly and kept me informed on my order status. I called in my fish fry and it was ready in about 20 minutes. I ordered my cod fish fry with house made potato pancakes that comes with coleslaw, apple sauce, rye bread and the usual too small tarter for the amount of fish. The fried cod was three nice meaty/flakey pieces of fish with a thin batter. The house made potato pancakes were good and better than frys which I will always order if it's on the menu. I didn't really like the coleslaw because it had a weird taste and the marble rye bread was fresh and good. Overall it was a decent fish fry that was better than average but not the best. I definitely liked how meaty the fish was and I would get it again. read more

Kid asked for fish fry so we did a take out order! After living near here for years, I was happy to finally set food inside! I could definitely cozy up with a drink or two there, but that wasn't in the plan tonight. My daughter liked her cod (enough that she ate it all and I didn't get to try it!), and my other daughter loved the bluegill. I did get to try that and thought it was really good! Seasoned well and crispy. I look forward to going back and trying some more food :) Do go for fish fry! Lots of options! read more

I was traveling through Milwaukee for work (I rescue stray Australian raccoons) and we stopped in for some food after a long day of rescuing. Graingers wings are heavenly. As I bit into these juicy, crispy, holy chicken wings the first thing that came to mind was "how are these legal!" I thought I was going to get pulled over driving down loomis beaming with joy after indulging in the best ranch Milwaukee has to offer. I was swerving between lanes reliving the joy these wings birthed in me. You read that right, these wings birthed life into my boring Australian raccoon rescuing life. To some extent, you know what you can expect out of a place like Graingers: TV's everywhere for sports viewing, deep fried bar food, lots of drink specials and a bank of video poker for "Amusement Only". The Good: the crowd here was surprisingly diverse - all ages, kinds of people and races. I feel like just about anyone could come in and feel comfortable here. The So/so: the food and service aren't great but they get the job done. Need some onion rings to soak up the ten Buddies you just drank? They'll send them out but don't expect plates, napkins or utensils. You got fingers and sleeves, right? The Bad: the ladies room is pretty grim. When the toilet seat is sliding off, spend the $15 and get a new one. Also, the music is honestly, truly the worst I've heard anywhere, ever. Some Nickelback would have been WELCOME, it was that bad. The Deal Breaker: a place like Graingers should be a place to come in with your crew, shoot some darts, watch the game and have some cold ones, right? Well...when they serve you a flat beer in a piping HOT glass straight from the dishwasher, I call shenanigans! Any South Side bar that can't manage to pull a decent tapper of Lite should just close their doors. Bottom line - walk away, unless you enjoy warm, flat beer served in a hot glass. Just your average bar with some really good food. Fish fry & shrimp (HUGE!!!!) were delicious and fresh. Waitress was very friendly & attentive. Not a whole lot of seating in bar area but overall would recommend to friends that don't mind the bar atmosphere. read more

This place has one of the top 5 chicken bacon swiss sandwiches in Milwaukee. Good assortment of TVs for sports. Legit gambling machines, decent golden tee. Just a stand up neighborhood bar. read more

The worst , no attention, just got there sit with my husband and ended up leaving after waiting for over 15 minutes and no one came to serve us, like no one enter the place, maybe because we were the only non white in there. Not my first time there and gave the benefit of the doubt but is definitely a place for white people, as a Hispanic I have never felt welcome. read more

In the past 9 years I have only been to Graingers twice for a COMBINED time of less than 10 minutes. My first experience was with a group of friends who really wanted to check the place out. I had never been, so I was down since I love trying new places. We walked in, went up to the bar right by the bartender. . . and proceded to be ignored. She walked away and started chatting with one of the regulars. After a few minutes of waiting, a guy sitting at the bar near us said that "we probably weren't going to have an easy time getting served since we weren't regulars". That was it for me, and we walked out. A few years later, another group of my friends wanted to check out Graingers. I warned them with my above story, but we figured it had been a few years so maybe things have changed. They had not. Same exact treatment of being ignored and having a regular tell us that's what happens here. I will never step foot in that place ever again. I find myself here often. Why? There's nothing special about Grainger's. It's decidedly un-special. It's my Cheers, in a way I suppose. They always have beer for me. The prices are pretty good, the service is adequate, and most of the food is alright. The chicken dinner is a favorite of mine. I love fried chicken in a styrofoam box. Don't expect a lot, but if you want a bar with bar food and bar folks and bar things to do, then Grainger's fits the bill. read more

Bad experience. We ordered a Bacardi bucket with a sign on our table that clearly stated $8/bucket. When the bill came it said $9 on our receipt. We asked for the price to be corrected. Our server stated that she asked the owner and the owner said " we have to make new signs" we then asked if our total would be adjusted, server said "she said not today" we asked to speak to the owner and the server said "she's upstairs" poor customer service. Food was just average. It's not that the $1 mattered. It was about advertising the wrong price and not correcting their mistake. read more

My experience was less then pleasurable here for the first time. My boyfriend and I decided to try it out we walk in, sit at a table and wait . And wait and wait. No acknowledgment what so ever . A group of guys walks in sits at a table and with in seconds a server give them menus and she asks for drinks. Needless to say we walked out and won't be returning ! I went there with my boyfriend on a Friday night in February in order to try out the fish fry. We were the only people seated in the back dinning room. the front of the bar was sort of busy with drunk people screaming out swear words and staring you down when you come in the door. Our waitress seemed pretty clueless about the menu and specials. We ordered one fish fry and one broasted chix dinner. We waited 45 minutes for our food. Let me remind you that we were the ONLY people in the dinning room. After waiting 45 minutes, we asked our waitress about our food and next thing you know, it was done. (Or was it sitting in the kitchen for 20 plus minutes). When the food came out she apologized for the delay and I said in response "yeah.... it really was a long wait" in a nice tone. She then responded by saying "Well, it's not my fault, it's the kitchens fault". SOOOOOOO not the right thing to say to an upset customer. This girl was really looking for a fight, but I just let it go since she clearly was a young, immature girl. In all fairness, the food was good, the value was OK, but because of the wait time and the HORRIBLE service, we will NEVER be back. EVER. read more

I wish this place was better, the location i's convenient and within walking distance. The wings are the only food I've tried here, and they were typical wings. However, the service was terrible to the point that I'll never go back. We were in a hurry and needed our check, but the bartender ignored us and continued to struggle to pour a pitcher of Lite, even changing the barrel. Grainger's is my favorite neighborhood pub. I usually go there with my sister to grab a bite and a beer. But sometimes I just go there by myself to grab a fish fry. Food is wonderful. My sister's boyfriend has some diet requirements and they do whatever they can to accommodate. The beer is always cold, but the employees are warm and welcoming. It's a fun place. OMG! DON'T go here to eat! Had THE worst experience EVER! Was there this past friday night with a couple girlfriends for dinner. I ordered the blue-gill fish fry and they ordered the baked cod dinner. First of all, it took us over 45 MINUTES to get our food. I'm sorry, but it does NOT take that long to bake a cod dinner! And it wasn't THAT busy. While we were waiting the waitress kept saying....it'll just be a few more minutes...it's cooking now. Yet, a 1/2 hr later, we still didn't get our food. Then, when we FiNALLY got our meal, it was WRONG! I ordered blue-gill and they served me COD! And my girlfriend's meals were COLD! And their pieces of fish were so tiny! (I think they got my blue-gill fish while I got their cod?). We sent the meals back and ordered something else. BIG MISTAKE! But we were starving at this point and didn't want to start over somewhere else. So I ordered pizza now. Figured they couldn't screw that up. Wrong! they missed a topping on my pizza. My friend ordered a chicken sandwich w/fries and a cup of soup. She asked the waitress if they could bring the soup before the sandwich. Which they did NOT. She had to ask the waitress for it again. This waitress was such a DITZ!!!!!!! She should not be working as a waitress! Whoever hired her is an idiot! I wish I knew her name, but forgot it. she was blonde with glasses. So anyway, we got our new order of food. Pizza was mediocre, at best. Kinda like frozen pizza doctored up with mushrooms from a can and added some italian seasoning on it. So then I asked for a box for my leftovers, which I don't know why I did since it wasn't that great. I had over 1/2 a pizza left. She gave me two TINY takeout boxes. I could only fit one slice in each! I mean, how dumb can you be? UGH! I was so frustrated at this point, I didn't even take any leftovers home. Not worth it anyway. Then, they got our bill TOTALLY wrong! They didn't take off for our free drinks they promised for messing up our meals. They actually charged us for extra ones!!! Then they charged for extra toppings on my pizza which I didn't order. Needless to say we corrected the bill ourselves and paid for only the items we did order and def left no tip! And the waitress didn't even come back to check on us. We just left the money on the table and left. What a HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE experience! Will never, ever eat there again! read more
