What a fun place. Anywhere that has a working outdoor BBQ pit and an actual rowboat for decoration is going to be serious about fun.this place is on a corner of Williamsburg and depending upon which side you're looking at it, it looks like multiple places. Even inside there are a few distinct rooms. But to be fair, what caught our eyes was the sign saying dog-friendly. Turns out much of Williamsburg is dog friendly. But having a sign clearly state that is smart since we were out with our pooch. We sat in the large patio-like area which was technically outdoors while being covered and sheltered from the weather if it doesn't cooperate. So ambiance - check. Service was fine - they even provided a water bowl for our dog. They have the now ubiquitous QR code based website for their menu. We had a glass of Prosecco (very nice). We ordered the crab cake burger with a side of the potatoes (crispy and amazing!) and the Gran Torino salad with smoked salmon. The crabcake itself was encouraging-it wasn't actually jumbo lump but it wasn't the shredded imitation kind. It came on a toasted bun topped with lettuce, coleslaw, and some remoulade sauce. The coleslaw was a new one for me.it was tasty but itwas pretty wet that it compromised the crunchy exterior of the crab cake. But it was definitely tasty and of good quality all things considered. The salad was actually really good. It had cucumbers, alfalfa sprouts, roasted corn, chick peas, avocado, tomatoes and red quinoa. I'm not a salad person and guys, I didn't even douse it with salad dressing like I normally do! Frankly, it felt kind of like being in LA. Although I didn't order any, they do offer reasonably priced coffees and oat milk with no upcharge. Probably the only minor gripe was a somewhat limited lunch menu without a theme. We were checked in on again by the server who took our order; we watched him remind the bartender of our order, but the bartender shook his head and continued to ignore us. I had gotten the " Trio of Tacos " 2 of those tacos were fish and one chicken thanks to Walter substituting per my request. I ate one of my tacos then found another taco with Mold on it. I then took it to the closest employee ( which was the host) to ask to have him take a look. He then proceeded to take it to the kitchen, as I walked back to my table. The host came back and said to us, " that is just the cabbage and onion mixing together to make that color" I said " red cabbage and white onions don't make Blue sir " he then said " you ate one already your stomach is fine no need to complain". After that I became a bit agitated due to the fact that I just ate moldy tacos and the host told me I'm fine don't complain. I asked the host if I could speak to the manager. He said "there's no manager here" I asked why and the host blamed the floods the day prior. If I were a manager of a restaurant I'd would think to come in early to check on staff, the equipment, etc a day after a big rainstorm. The worst experience ever. Gran Torino melted our wedding ice cream cake because they put it in the wrong fridge (instead of a freezer). Without an apology, they blamed my husband for not telling them in advance, but he did twice! The wedding ice cake that we brought from Manhattan, decorated by ourselves, that had such a special meaning to us on the most important day of our lives, was melted in their fridge because they did not put it in a freezer, after my husband told them twice. The owner and waiter did not apologize but instead blamed my husband that he did not tell them that it's an ice cream cake, which was no true!! Because of this, I almost cried in front of my guests on my wedding day. It was clearly communicated that it was for our wedding and the prix fix was optional. Btw, there were 12 of us not 13. Your husband or friend brings in a cake unannounced 2 hours prior to your reservation. -- My husband and I informed the restaurant about our cake during the first visit. It was a 3-week advance announcement, not 2 hours. Again we tried to accommodate you as best we can. Our Walk In fridge is set at 39 degrees. If you put a cake in our Walk In fridge for 2-4 hours it will not melt. Also we don't just have plenty of room in freezers to store random things handed to us. We use fresh produce so we only have a small freezer that won't fit a large wedding cake. -- We were asked to pay $50 for preserving our 6" ice cream. It was not random. Maybe your cake melted in the car while in transport (making a few extra stops to run errands before coming to our restaurant)? -- Not true. We brought the cake back to our freezer, and then walked 10 minutes to Gran Torino. It was not melted at all when we handed it over to them. Then you complain that food and drinks took forever and that we didn't seat you in the section you preferred. Well sorry but it's not easy handling a 13 top out of the blue. (Hence the Prix Fix option that can be scheduled and timed ahead). -- We made a reservation for 10 ppl 3 weeks ago. If the restaurant cannot accommodate 2 more people, we would have left. The food was delicious, the atmosphere is great, but the hosted at the front is beyond rude and on an absolute power trip. On a day that the restaurant was nearly completely empty we were told we were not allowed to occupy a table for drinks while we waited on a friend to begin lunch who was running a little late. We sat at the bar, also nearly empty, to order drinks per her explicit directors and wait for our friend. Then once our friend finally arrived we were berated over and over again by the host to make sure we intended to order food not just drinks. It was typical brunch time- the parking was tough, luckily all of us found parking a few blocks down, all of us had to walk. I'm honestly surprised this place isn't more popular with how cool and great it is. The decor is so fun with plants and disco balls everywhere. I had a reservation for brunch on a Sunday at 2:30. I'd say to get a reservation to be safe especially if you're a large party, but it's a pretty big place so there's a fair amount of seating. The service is a little slow, but that didn't really bother us since we were having a great time anyway. To drink I got the Pepino ($13) and then the XXX Martini ($13). Both were delicious and the Pepino was especially refreshing. For food I got the Uova Alla Benedetto ($16). It came with a fair amount of prosciutto and the potatoes were especially great. My sister got the ricotta pancakes ($15), and loved them as well. My friend's Huevos Rancheros were bigger than I expected and he definitely enjoyed it. Our server was really nice, and overall just a great vibe. They also have a little side deli with lots of great looking food so I will be back to check it out.
