Even to this day those who attended our wedding still rave about the food we had and remembered the wonderful experience! My husband and I returned to KW for the first time since our wedding, and we were excited to bring the kids to Grand Cafe to take them to where we celebrated. We were running late for our reservation because of traveling, and the owner, Maria, was extremely gracious in accommodating us once again. Our return visit didn't disappoint, as the food was incredible once again. Maria owns an amazing restaurant and has wonderful servers working to provide an excellent dining experience for guests.The restaurant industry is a tough one, so the fact that the food, drinks, service, and ambiance is still fresh and delicious 18 years later is a testament to how incredible Grand Cafe is! I alerted a. bus boy who came over and after several attempts captured the mouse and removed him. As a result we did not finish our $200 meal. I didn't expect to have such a great meal at a restaurant on the strip of such a busy tourist street but I was proved wrong. My friend and I were there for Fantasy Fest and needed a respite away from the crowds. I am a foodie so it's difficult for me to settle for just any restaurant without doing extensive Yelp recon. The lemon drop martini and the deep eddy cranberry martini was delicious& very strong! The Bruschetta was everyone favorite part of the entire meal. The blackened mahi mahi was tasty & the side of black beans and white rice was a wonderful addition to the dish! The crab cakes were rich and delicious. We also had the blacken scallops! Very picturesque restaurant in Key West food was a step above the standard fair, it's very highly priced...but hey it's Key West! The service was pretty good, but was definitely missing something, our server was very good and seemed to be running all over the place with way too many tables, at one point she was taking care of every table on the porch and several tables in front, definitely needs a raise....but this type of service and lack of servers present seemed to drive extended times for food and orders. Since the restaurant appeared to be empty only 25% filled with at least ten tables open. We asked if we could sit at a table that would was closer to the back. She said sorry she can not because the waiter and waitress would be mad at her for sitting someone in there section. Ok she gave an explanation but come on the waitress air waiter would be mad, inexcusable. The way we felt and treated was disgusting and appalling because the restaurant had four tables that were seated with Caucasian guest and we were the only African Americans coming into the establishment. The food here is very well prepared and flavorful and came out very fast after being ordered which was a good thing because I was really hungry. By far - my favorite happy hour and dinner on the island! Delicious martinis served with a side car, is the best way to start the meal. Highly recommend the salmon platter, and both clams and muscles (ask for extra bread cause the sauce is bomb)! We had a reservation for 6:30 and were seated outside on the porch, it was a fabulous view and fun to watch people walk by. Our server was efficient but not overly friendly. They served complimentary bread with olive oil and vinegar to start, which was delicious. We started with the beet salad and the blue cheese and walnut salad (not pictured) both of which were big portions and had plenty of toppings. For an appetizer, we had the beef tartare, it was good but it wasn't served with any kind of toast point so I had to ask for more dinner bread which was odd. We shared two entrees - the baked branzino and the grilled rare yellowfin tuna. The branzino was excellent, but if you are scared of a whole fish or you do not like to eat the skin of the fish, I would pass as you are missing a lot of flavor in the skin. The rice was cooked well and the cucumber and tomato salad was refreshing. The tuna was not a very quality piece of fish, but it was cooked well. I expected the rice noodles to be more of a noodle bowl, not a side of noodles. Unfortunately, they were kind of dry and flavorless. We ordered the mushroom appetizer and crab cakes to test it out and I can say I've had better food at Red Lobster. Canned mushrooms with a dollop of goat cheese. Boring and uninspired. You can make a lot of bad choices on Duval Street. Grand Café is one of those bad choices. I am not going to tell you Grand Café is a terrible place. I love the bar. The bar is cozy quaint, and quiet; and it is super easy to pick up a date in there. The small dining rooms are cozy too. The tables on the outdoor seating are too close together, but the patio has a perfect elevation for people watching while dining. The fun stops there. The cooking is bad, the ingredients are poor quality, the prices are high for low quality ingredients, and the service is slow and the waiter we had was frazzled and not handling it well. I had the pasta with muscles in a garlic white wine sauce. The muscles were most likely previously frozen. If they were not frozen, they had been cooked into little rubber erasers. Many shells were broken or even shattered, some of them were not open and all of them were nearly inedible. If a shell is broken or worse, shattered, or does not open it should be discarded. The wine garlic sauce had a missing ingredient - Garlic. Jeff also had a muscle dish featuring the same inedible muscles. It was a disaster. I ate 3 or 4 of my muscles, pushed the rest aside, and only ate the pasta. Jeff sent his back as inedible and got back, we are pretty sure, the same muscles rearranged. And his toast points were over cooked on one end and untoasted bread on the other. I believe the price point on the broken, frozen, rubber muscles was $20. Speaking of prices. Jeff ordered a fountain soda water. The price on that was $2.50, a reasonable price for soda water from a fountain. At some point during the meal, our waiter picked up his soda water and replaced it with a new one. This was a highpoint in his service, in that he mostly treated us like we were the most unwanted tourists on the planet. When we got the bill, we were charged for two soda waters. Is that normal? The only reason we went to Grand Café was that I saw a picture of a dessert on Yelp that I thought looked interesting, but our waiter was so horrible, there was no way I was going to stay for dessert. UGH! So, among the many bad choices you can make on Duval Street in Key West, eating at Grand Café, while it may be benign, is a bad choice. read more

I hate bad writing reviews but this place was a complete let down. We were celebrating an upcoming wedding amongst friends and this killed the whole mood of our party. Service was slow (we were one of maybe 5 tables for the whole resturant) , the food was bland and everything was over priced. Oh and our plates and utensils were dirty.. I could whip off some sort of black residue on them. We had the pasta Alfredo with mussels and shrimp. The pasta seemed store bought and the Alfredo sauce from Publix has more flavor then the one they use. Overall super disappointed. I hope they improve their food quality. read more
