We came to Williams to do the Grand Canyon Railway for my birthday and Mother's Day weekend! The Grand Depot Café meal vouchers were included in our weekend stay. We had 2 dinner vouchers for the first night, 2 breakfast vouchers for the next day, then 2 more dinner vouchers for that night! And this place as so awesome!! The food was fantastic! Because it is buffet style, you choose what you want to eat and how much you want to eat! They also had a pasta station at dinner, and an omelet station in the morning! The two stars is for The service and atmosphere. With exception of the woman working cashier this morning. She was awfully rude. Everyone is nice and works really hard. If it were for the food it would be 0 stars if possible. Everything was cold and bland. Practically couldn't eat. The chef did accommodate our gluten and dairy allergies. It was nice that they let me bring in my own almond milk. We have been here for polar express several times which we had the package so it was okay. Not amazing, but not too shabby. This was our lunch stop on a bus tour to the Grand Canyon and it was nice to fill our tummies with food. This place is right next to the Polar Express (very cool train and photo op!) The employees here were very efficient in funneling all the people that were coming through here from the bus tours (there were 6 buses the day we went). They gave us a table to sit at and took our drink orders (cold drinks) and then we were off to get our food. There was a salad bar and some soup options. Some pulled pork, veggies, bread rolls, and also dessert. Coffee and hot tea were self-serve in the center of where all the buffet food was. We came here with a package deal for the train ride to the Grand Canyon and hotel stay at the Grand Canyon railroad hotel. The staff at the hotel, at the train depot, on the train, and at the restaurant were all excellent. The food at the café was very good. Filet Mignon for dinner as part of the buffet. All kinds of gravy and sauces, different kinds of potatoes and everything you can imagine. They had live music both nights that we were there. Breakfast was great too. They have a custom omelette station, Biscuits and gravy, all kinds of fruit. I would highly recommend the package. Five star service all around. The hotel was excellent too. Probably the quietest room that I've ever stayed in. We never heard anything in the hallways or through the walls. We look forward to our next visit already. read more

First time ever that I tasted everything then left a full plate. The best part of the meal was the Coke and water! All of food was barely warm, tasteless, nearly empty. The soup was empty, the Mac and cheese was old, cold and gross. The prime rib was over cooked, dry, cold, tough and tasteless. The turkey was slightly warm and the dressing just looked gross.. I passed. My wife tried the fries, and they were so tough that she couldn't cut them with a fork. Her rice was dry and inedible. We thought... we still have 1 more dinner and 2 breakfasts to go... not gonna do that again! And it was for the bargain price of $25 a head! We asked for a refund for the balance of the meals and I do give them 1 star as they were great about processing the refund. This "buffet" was by far the worst buffet I have ever been to. We came by for the buffet as part of the Grand Canyon tour. 3 bus loads. Lunch is supposed to be from 11:30 - 1:30. By the time we got to the food it was all gone. No chicken. No hamburgers. No veggies. There was at least another 10-15 people that had no food. We only had 45 minutes to eat. It took almost half hour to get the food. When we did get some food. Not all. I got what I could and every single item was disgusting. There was no flavour whatsoever. The fried chicken was just fried in flour. The chicken breast was broiled with pepper. The hamburger was disgusting. The cheese was processed cheese. The veggies were all boiled in water with no flavouring. The wild rice was mushy and soggy. The salad bar was not any better. The lettuce. Which was iceberg. Worst lettuce ever. Was brown. So it was not fresh. And they put all the pieces of the lettuce in there even the root. And it wasn't even chopped up. Dessert was some no name disgusting cookies. And some thing that might have contained apples or something. Looked like jailhouse mush. Not sure if hospital or jail food is worse but this is as bad as that. Then before 1:15 they started clearing things up. Even before the lunch hours were over. WORST LUNCH BUFFET EVER. and it's not worth the $15 as they state. Everything was microwaved. This is a buffet style cafe. It has its basic buffet food such as a salad bar, meats, veggies, pasta etc.. They serve breakfast and dinner. It's convenient because it is by the train depot and it's a hop and a jump away. Because of the Grand Canyon package I had purchased, my meals were at this place. The buffet is less than desirable and is comparable to a Denny's or IHop and is very overpriced for it. The food is not the best and not the worst. They do offer live music in the evenings which is different because how many buffets offer live music? The atmosphere of the restaurant reminds me of an old Piccadilly cafeteria in the southwest from the 1980's. It does have a cool train that rides around the restaurant on a track high above you as you dine which is interesting to watch. However, you won't miss anything by missing the buffet here and it is far better to walk a few blocks to the restaurants on Route 66 for better food at better prices. read more

Our family ate at the buffet prior to heading to Polar Express. We took advantage of the AAA discount which helped with the slightly overinflated buffet price. We checked in and were seated quickly. We had a very nice server who took our drink order and then we helped ourselves to the buffet. There was a salad part with typical accoutrements and the hot portion featured turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, root vegetable stuffing, steamed vegetables, mac and cheese, wild rice blend and other items including mini elf size corndogs. There was a carving station that had prime rib that was tasty and accompanied by an au jus. There was also a separate station for pasta dishes. With the meal also came a dessert of choice. I chose the apple blossom and the others chose a chocolate caramel delight. One could also have self serve with cones from the local Joy Cone factory in Flagstaff. Overall it was a filling buffet. This cafe was an absolute aweful experience. We had come here as part of the train ride package and restaurant voucher. DONT BE FOOLED BY FREE VOUCHER the food is so terrible we went one time and never came back. So the vouchers ended up not being used. This cafe has aweful buffet food. There are too many bad words to describe the food...stale,cold, sliced lunch mean advertised as roasted turkey, Mac and cheese cold and aweful I'd rather eat craft. The tables were filthly and there were table cloths on the floor sopping up rain water leaking through the back door. Avoid this place at all cost it is the worst buffet quite possibly in the entire US. If you go here you will spend $50 per person for the most sub par food you have ever encountered. I give this place 4 stars because of the wonderful people who work here. My daughter has celiacs and we needed to know what food was safe for her. The executive chef came out and talked about the whole buffet. The made-to-order gluten free pasta was my daughter's favorite. They even had a g-free cookie for her at the end of the meal. We had two meals here as part of our Polar express experience. We had good service at each meal land the selection of food was good. The morning breakfast could of gone a little better because there was about 12 to 15 people in line to get eggs cooked to order. It was better at the dinner meal where pasta was cooked to order that one had about a 10 minute wait. This made it hard tfor everyone to be at the table together. He strait insulted us and then began to ignore anything else we had to say. When I asked for all business card he said they didn't have any. A staff member directed him to where they were and gave me the information for the general manager. It is clear that the staff does not appreciate the way George treats the customers. I would venture to say he probably treats his staff the same way. Too bad that this place is attached to the train depot where families go to enjoy themselves. To call this place a Cafe is a bit misleading, but since we had arrived a few hours early to partake in the surroundings, we arrived just in time for dinner which is between 4:00 - 9:00 pm. Being a buffet style, and the only place to grab a decent bite to eat for dinner, and with lil ones buffets are always good. The place has its small town train station charm if this is what it's supposed to like. There is a toy model train that goes around the restaurant high up along the wall where it delights and amuses the lil ones. Tables a bit too close to one another where your trying to get by to get to the buffet spread but have to bump into two or three neighboring customers as well. No aisle or walkway really outlined. The food options fared no much better. A lot of the items ( maybe all of the items ) seem as if they were from a box, a can, or a frozen bag where you just add water or just heat and stir occasionally. Even the carving station which was a beef roast or a turkey roast didn't seem enticing. What got me was something thing labeled as Ratatouille ( "*_*" smirk like the animated pic ) under the hot area and something that looked quite similar to it next to the salads and greens in the cold section. Anyways there's two sides to the buffet but its both exactly the same with two types of bread rolls in the middle. There's also a cooking station on one side where they can quickly heat up one of four tossed dishes for you. We got the Chicken Alfredo for the kids, and they seemed to like it. But if you do have PLENTY of time prior to your planned trip, there are a lot of places nearby even if its a short drive. Or maybe a nice stroll. It's not the worst, but it's not the greatest either.
