The Secret Chinese menu has the wide rice noodle dish, special roasted duck, pork in fermented black bean sauce and other authentic Chinese dishes you can't find in Omaha. Heard from a Chinese Food influencer, and I whole heartedly agree, Chinese restaurants should have a 3 - 3.5 star rating. Raters should talk about the "rude" service, but talk about the good food. Here, the service is given by people of Chinese Heritage who were raised to be efficient, focus on the task (take order bring food) and not be icky-sweet and waste time. This is that place. This review is for only dim sum Chicken feet came with only 2 per serving, color was a bit off but flavor was alright 2.5/5. Steamed bbq bun was very off putting, which she claimed was baking powder but it tasted more like spoiled milk. 0/5 The service was good as they offered to swap it out with the baked bbq pork bun which was much much better than the steamed. 3/5 We had steamed rice rolls with shrimp and the texture of the batter was not smooth and bubbly and the oil they used for it left a very unpleasant smell. 1/5 The shrimp dumpling also had a lumpy textured dough which was again unpleasant but the shrimp was good 2/5 The shu mai was dry but the flavor was overall decent. 2/5 The item I enjoyed most was the sticky rice in lotus leaves as it's pretty difficult to mess up sticky rice but it seems like they use old pork as a filling as it was extremely dry and tough. I knew this was not going to be top notch food but had pretty low expectations to begin with since we are in omaha but this fell far below anything I have ever had before. Bathroom smelled like mold. Otherwise the dining area was clean. I ordered a Mt Dew. I don't know if it was just their pop machine or the glass but it had a bleach taste. My egg drop soup came out cold - not even luke warm. I asked the waitress to heat it up. Technically restaurants are not allowed to take items back to the kitchen. Regardless, she took it back and warmed it. Although the bowl was warm the soup was still cold. I asked her to bring me a to go container as I would take it home as it was still cold. The crab rangoon and egg roll came out piping hot and were tasty. I noticed on the menu a 2 person special that included crab rangoon and soup so I asked if we could do that. She said no since the appetizers were already ordered. I would have thought she would have showed us the special to begin with. My daughter had sesame chicken and enjoyed it. She said the chicken was moist. I had sweet and sour chicken. There was no more than 2 pieces of pineapple, and very small pieces of green pepper, onion and carrots. The pineapple was bad (fermented). The chicken was so dry I couldn't eat it. Our bill was $50!! Eating out is way too expensive to have poor food quality, My daughter wanted to go to Grand Fortune so I agreed. In hindsight, I should have looked at the reviews first. I recently came and tried Dim Sum at Grand Fortune, and overall felt that this restaurant was ok. I will say that I have higher standards and expectations for Chinese food when because I am Chinese and have eaten Chinese food my whole life. Food: 3/5. Of the food that I tried, the two items that stood out to me were the pan fried turnip cakes and shrimp rice noodle roll. These were so flavorful and they were just as good if not better than other dim sum places that I have been to. All of the other food including fried shrimp ball, shrimp dumpling, bean curd pork roll, sweet rice flour ball, chicken feet in black bean sauce, and sticky rice in lotus leaf were ok. I thought that they overall lacked in much flavor that I normally taste at dim sum places. I found myself constantly adding chili sauce to these dishes to add flavor. Service 4/5: the service was pretty good. Each dish came out as they were made, and it overall didn't take a super long time. Ambiance 3/5: nothing particularly special about the inside, but nothing bad either! It is pretty big and spacious and can seat a lot. I cannot even count how many times I have gotten take out from Grand Fortune, and every time I do the quality, consistency and flavors are right on point. One of my favorites is the Lemon Chicken, but I often choose the General Tso or Sesame Chicken as well. I can only comment on the dim sum, but it is very good stuff. We came for dinner on Friday night and we were the first customers for dinner. Several couples and families arrived, during our stay, but it was generally not busy, though they had several come in for take out. Which is too bad, because their dim sum is really good. We order 8 different plates and ending up spending about $30. The most expensive thing was the roasted duck, which was so flavorful and cooked really well, so it wasn't chewy or too tough. The skin was crisp, which really highlights the dish. Next time, we will probably just order half a duck. Anyway, the other dim sum options were great, with the bee's nest and sesame ball (which is filled with egg custard, not red bean paste) were our favorites. The Lotus rice was solid, as were the pork and shrimp shu mai's. Altogether, the food was made fresh and tasted great, if a little salty. I definitely would like a side of white rice next time, but that's just me. Our kids ate it up and enjoyed being able to taste so many different things. So happy I found a pretty good dim sum place in Omaha. The dim sum menu has just about everything on it that you could want, and the prices are fairly reasonable compared to places in California. We had about a dozen items from the dim sum menu, and they were all pretty good. The items that were the best, in English, were the baked egg custard bun, the bbq pork buns (baked and steamed), the spare ribs in black bean sauce, the egg custard tarts, and the pan-fried turnip cakes. However, the steamed bbq pork buns were steamed a bit too long and the bottoms were soggy. On the other hand, the siu mai (pork and shrimp dumplings) were odd tasting, and the sticky rice was a little too bland. Also, there were only two people working the front at different times and the service was extremely slow. We sat for a long time before we were even given a menu, and long again before our order was taken. All in all, it was a good experience and worth the wait, and I recommend checking this place out for dim sum. read more

Grand Fortune Chinese has been on my bookmark list for quite some time but as it's across town, I hadn't yet made my way there. Since I was on business in the area, I thought it was the perfect time to stop in and get acquainted.I did take a dim sum menu to-go so I can take a look at it and come back on a weekend for brunch (dim sum=brunch food!), [Also, I might mention that they will do dim sum all days of the week, which other restaurants in town will only do weekends] but this time it was a quick take out lunch that had me at their door. I took a look at their "American" lunch menu and decided on the general tsos chicken lunch plate. The lunch plates come with soup or crab rangoons, and white or fried rice. I went with the white rice and crab rangoons for mine. The plate came with 2 rangoons, a hefty serving of rice, and 4 large pieces of chicken with some broccoli. I thought for $8, that was a good deal. portion wise, good for lunch. I would expect larger portions and more cost for dinner. The food was good, no fakey chicken packed with batter, and the sauce was enough to drown a boat, just the way we Americans like it. I'd love to come back and try some of the more traditional dishes and compare it to the dishes I ate growing up. Service for the take out was exceptional. I was helped by Brin, and not only was he super nice and offered me a water while I waited, but when I tried to pay I was also informed me that "lunch was on him" today. I was blown away! It wasn't creepy in the least, it was just a nice person doing something nice for another stranger. It's not often (read: never) that a stranger shows me so much kindness. He has earned a solid customer and I will not forget his generosity. Thanks to him, I will be making the effort to stop by and eat here more often despite the distance from my house. read more

We finally made it back here after a very long time. I'm very happy to see and experience better service from the staff as compared from our previous visit. The food was great! The dim sum selection was extensive and we really like all the items we ordered. The shumai (spelled multiple ways) really hit the spot and both baked buns (pork & egg custard) were made nearly perfect. I am not happy about lowering Grand Fortune's rating but when you sit inside the restaurant that is only 4 tables filled and wait 75 minutes for your food on a New Year's eve, people need to know. It was also the people who ordered take-out who expressed disappointment about the lengthy wait time for an order that usually takes 25 minutes and over half the tables are filled. The server kept apologizing for the ridiculous wait time and what lessened the sting was the food quality was still very good. I will take a break from this place and hopefully service will improve by the time I decide to give them my business again. read more

It was delicious the first visit, but each successive visit, quality got worse and worse. Nothing on the menu anymore was crispy (as described). I do however think that the preparation of the food could be a little better as the fried foods weren't crispy like you would expect, and some of the dishes were warm. I've really enjoyed this restaurant every time I've ordered from or eaten here. Food: I've ordered carry out from here quite a few times and I've never had a problem with an order. The food has always been fresh and tasty. My boyfriend and I decided to actually eat at the restaurant and try some dim sum as well. I got the cashew chicken and he got the sesame chicken, both were good. I love the crab rangoons here! Super hot and fresh and crispy and yummm! For dim sum we got baked BBQ buns which were awesome, a steamed dumpling that I can't remember the name of, and egg tarts. Since we came right when they opened, the dim sum was made fresh and if you've never had a fresh egg tart you just HAVE to try them. Service: We were seated immediately and taken care of. The dim sum did take a bit longer than we were hoping because they were making them fresh, we were already finished eating by the time the egg tarts came out but that's okay because they were a good treat for later. Atmosphere: Very standard Chinese restaurant atmosphere. Everything seemed clean. Overall: Definitely recommend trying the dim sum which they only serve on Saturdays and Sundays. mmm Dim Sum, it's been so long since I've had good Dim Sum. Christmas day my brother in law, my niece, and I had lunch here at Grand Fortune. It's always great to eat Chinese with my brother cuz he can speak Cantonese and we usually get really good everything! Unlike some of the Dim Sum places back at home, they don't come around on carts and push any plates on you. They give you a menu list of Dim Sum items and you just choose. This way the food comes out hot, fresh and amazing! First came out the authentic rice soup AKA jook!! This is one of my favorites, my grandma used to make it all the time and according to my Brother in law it's tough to make it just right without burning it. Grand Fortune has it down, this soup was so good I had to verbally tell myself to stop eating it to save room for everything else, she even puts a duck egg in it, WINNER! The food was so fresh & flavorful. Some of the items I chose the spare ribs, stuffed eggplant and the shrimp. My brother in law chose this fried flaky taro dish, duck, fried squid, char siu bao, and this sweet bao that I enjoyed very much and another dumpling and turnip cake that I didn't get to try, and for our greens we got Choi sum. Stuffed eggplant: comes with three huge pieces and their stuffed with a fishcake. This was one of my all time favorites!! It was huge but easy to eat and yummy! Taro dish: It was actually really pretty, it was nice and flaky on the outside, the taro was warm and delicious, and whatever was inside was just divine. All of these unique flavors somehow went together and choirs started singing----it was THAT good! Shrimp dumplings: comes with a generous amount of small shrimp, yummalicious! Baos: Loved both of these. The bread was fresh with a dollop of sticky goodness on top of them. The char siu was wonderful and the other bao was more like a pastry so it was sweet, and great! Choi Sum: This is probably the best choi sum I've tasted in awhile, it was full dish of choi sum cuz my niece asked for it. The sauce was a great flavor and the choi sum was crunchy and fresh, loved it!! The food here is so amazing. Who would have thought a great authentic Chinese food restaurant would be in Omaha Nebraska!! They get an extra star just for that!! Coming from Hawai'i there are so many authentic Chinese food restaurants, so to find one up here, is a blessing!!! The staff is really great as well, they are super nice and always asking to see if you're okay. Another tid bit about this place, they have a full bar, my sister and I shared a huge volcano drink one night, came flamin and tasted great! Even though I personally would not choose Chinese food to eat, if my husband wants Chinese, and decides to go here, I will go. If we are not going for Dim Sum, I will eat the cantonese pan fried noodles, of which are the most authentic in town considering I am from Hawaii and they make it everywhere there. Here, you kinda have to ask for it. Crab rangoons are good too, of which are my most favorite "Nebraskan" Chinese dish. They have a full bar and Tina knows exactly how to make, like, every drink imaginable. If you came here for dim sum, do yourself a favor and go to the Asian grocery store, buy the frozen dim sum and steam it at home. That's basically what they serve here. Omaha is never going to be renowned for its dim sum, but calling this place "subpar" is too nice. I grew up eating dim sum on the east/west coasts, and know when it's homemade/fresh vs. frozen/reheated. The older woman who works the front desk (I think she's the owner) needs a couple of lessons in customer service. I asked how much tea would cost, and she replied with a snarky "if you want tea, you're going to have to pay for it." Well, duh. That's why I asked how much it would cost. By the way, the tea was disgusting. Service was PAINSTAKINGLY slow (we were stuck there for over 2 hours), even though 2/3 of the restaurant was empty. When we asked for the check, the same older woman breathed down my neck, as if double-checking that I would tip despite their atrociously lackluster service. I actually kind of regret tipping at all. If you absolutely NEED to eat dim sum at a restaurant, go to Golden Mountain instead. The food is good, and the employees there are much more pleasant. I wanted to bring my mother somewhere she could get some Asian food for her birthday (pretty much not American fast food type). After we walked into a very large mostly empty place, we waited to be seated in a dimly lit restaurant. After being seated and receiving the menus the server took our drink orders. However, we asked for if they had pictures of their Dim Sum Menu and we received a very nicely put together booklet of large pictures and names, but the server left for what seemed like a pretty long time. After ordering a large Combination Fried Rice which we were told would be more than enough to share between the two of us. In addition to the large fried rice we were given a choice of a soup as well (but it was only a very small cup barely for one person. So don't plan on sharing the soup). We also ordered Steamed Pork Buns, Pork Dumplings, Beef Rice Noodle Rolls, Sticky Rice in Lotus Leaves, Chicken Feet, and a whole Roast Duck. (No we didn't finish it all, we had to pack some.) The Fried Rice, Steamed Pork Buns, Pork Dumplings, and Sticky Rice were pretty good or average compared to most decent sit down Asian restaurants. The Duck was about a 30-40 min wait because they said they had to cook it fresh. It was very moist and good, but packed to go as we were done eating and waiting for about 20 minutes. I didn't have any of the Egg Drop Soup or Chicken Feet, but my mother said they were okay. So, I'm assuming they weren't the most amazing you'll ever have/had, but still decent. Overall, this place had a large list of items in their Dim Sum menu and it was very nice that they had a large laminated book of pictures to help newbies see what they want to order. Service wasn't the greatest and when I asked if they had anything special I could order or they could do for my mother's birthday, they said no. I dont even know how it has gotten such high rating. Wow ... where to begin with my experience at Grand Fortune. I guess I should start by saying that I'm pretty generous as far my tolerances for Chinese food quality. I have had everything from amazing to just ok but my experience at Grand Fortune was just terrible in every way. I ordered Hunan Lamb and an eggroll, while my mother ordered the generals chicken. The eggroll turned out to be the only edible item we ordered. The Generals Chicken which is quite often the same at most establishments was quite possibly the worst quality I have seen yet. You received about 4 medium sized bites of dark meat chicken which was extremely tough and even un-cutable by a fork. Toughest old chicken I had ever seen. It was sent back to the kitchen when they offered to make the same dish with white meat. Again, the white meat chicken was old, tough, and not even edible. My dish, the Hunan lamb arrived cold and mostly flavorless even with the sauce. Very small portion and it was edible but very bland and to be honest a little disgusting due to it's bland and cold taste. I know a lot of people may enjoy Grand Fortunes Dim Sum on Saturdays and Sundays but I will never return to this restaurant under any circumstances. It's pretty bad when you pay $30 for a lunch and you have to go to Burger King afterwards to get something semi-fit to eat. I guess the only positive thing I have to say to finish is that the service was good and the spicy mustard helped cover the taste of the main dishes. We ordered takeout on this day, the Kung Pao beef was delicious and spicy like we requested. The sheiy egg foo young was absolutely terrible. They were large flat disc's that tasted of uncooked flour. Absolutely no flavor at all and super dry even with the pour over sauce. Bill came to $33 for 7 dishes: Baked BBQ pork bun - excellent, white puffy goodness with perfect amount of pork nestled inside Deep Fried Sesame Ball - best I ever had, light airy, sesame-ey and some mango sauce inside Chinese brocoli aka bok choy with oyster sauce - excellent, lots of leafy goodness (I go for the leaves before I get down to the stalks) and they brought this dish out first :)))) Fried shrimp ball - very good, some kick, no claws Salt and pepper shrimp - good, I even ate one head, which is pretty good for a white girl Shrimp dumplings - okay, rice paper too thick and something like egg stuffed in there with baby shrimp Leek dumplings - just okay, same rice paper issue and there was more pork than leek CAUTION VEGGIES We are in heaven, we never thought we would get good Dim Sum outside of the west coast, but so glad we were wrong.
