The spot was pretty empty - it's very large, and we had the pleasure of a lady playing the harp. (It's unclear if she was paid entertainment or just practicing?) The older kids had kids meals, which included chips, a sandwich, and a drink. They were big fans. My wife and I shared some fantastic potato soup and a very good cinnamon roll (we have had one in the past - fluffy and not overly iced - feels not terrible unhealthy?) Additionally, she chose a slice of peanut butter chocolate cream pie and I the cherry crumb. Both were amazing - maybe hers slightly better (obviously very different). Oh, and we shared a coffee! I enjoyed a Turkey Ruben and a side of tomato bisque. I sampled my husband's sandwich and his squash soup, also very delish. As we were splitting a piece of some of the most wonderful pecan pie, a young lady in a wheelchair came by to clear away our dishes. This was VERY impressive. This is the best place in SE Michigan for pies and all things pie related. They have quiche, savory pot pies, cream pies, and the most amazing fruit pies. I first tried this company at a festival locally and tried my still favorite pie. ABCC or Apple berry cherry crumble is soo delicious. If you not a fan of a crumble, it's OK. They have regular pies also from cherry, apple, rhubarb, pecan,key lime and peach. A few cream varieties also. If you can decide, buy a slice and try another flavor. I haven't had one that I haven't liked. They are open at 0800, and when I wanted a chicken pot pie, I came here after work for a large carryout order. They also have quiche, sandwiches, and combo platters. If you want breakfast, lunch, or dinner, come on in. Did I mention the classic Maurice salad from Dayton Hudson restaurants. They have replicated the dressing almost perfectly. I grabbed one of those today also. There is only one downside here, so it's hard to decide what to get. I normally get a few pies, both savory and sweet, and with my large family, I never have any waste. Join the pie dough club for more perks. First time at this pie company, I went with my church Auntie, Auntie Miriam and she highly recommends! We had a light lunch here with soup and a sandwich, their vegetarian options are few but you can always ask to take things out! Now their pies. Ranges from savory to sweet pies, hmmm mmm, so so good! Since then it's grown to 15 locations throughout the Mitten State. They're a fast casual style restaurant - where you order at the kiosk then take your time eating. The menu features a variety of pies - I highly recommend crumble cherry - but also plenty of comfort food. Soups, sandwiches, salads, and quiches. I won't pretend to understand how a business operates, but one downfall is portions v. price can seem a bit steep, but the quality of food is divine. Overall for food quality and options, but a reflection of price, I give Grand Traverse Pie Company four stars out of five. Worth a trip. read more

I had the ABC pie (I think that's what it's called), it was super sweet, I don't remember finishing it. I thought maybe the extra fruit vittles inside had something to do with it, so the next trip I had a single fruit pie - still really sweet. Try for yourself, maybe it'll taste like a saltine to you, but I'll have to pass. The pot pie though....it was a little bland, but on point after adding salt/pepper to it. $10 for the size I got, so I'm not sure I'm ready to graduate from $1 Banquet (yeah I know they're terrible for me). Warning, do not come here for lunch unless you're eating a pot pie (which seemed popular to some folks). Employees were slow and nobody seemed to be trained well. My family came for lunch and we all ordered sandwiches, which happened to be the absolute lowest quality sandwiches I've ever received at an establishment. They are an average of $12 yet should be less than $5. The tables were all dirty when we came in, with employees not doing anything. I had to have someone wipe a table down. Good thing nobody asked me how the food was, because it was awful. Not only were the sandwiches bad, but they forgot ingredients that were included on it and ingredients that I had added. The grilled meat was over grilled to the point where they were dry, I needed to douse it in mayo to eat. The amount of meat was the tiniest portion possible, it was probably a singular slice per sandwich. The pies are fine, but at that point, they should not serve food other than pie. The pies were comparable to any other pie shop. Nothing special. We spent around $80 on 3 mini pies and 4 sandwiches. Yikes. Not sure how they have 4 stars. read more

I was recently in Ann Arbor Michigan for some training. I heard really good things from my fellow Travelers. I waited till the very end before I gave it a shot. I was flying out and looking for something light. The place is very clean, it kind of looks like a Panera bread. In fact it's a lot like Panera bread. But let me tell you the food is way better. The staff were very friendly and courteous. You would place your order, get a cup then you go fill up your cup and find a nice place to sit. They bring the food to you. They offer breakfast lunch and dinner. They have a nice outside seating area with thoughtfully placed flowers and beautiful birch trees. I enjoyed my meal immensely, there was a slight breeze that came through the building and Rustled the leaves in the birch trees. They were birds flying around, not big nasty birds but cute little birds. Incredibly idyllic for a place on the side of the road in a strip mall. The tomato bisque soup was freshly made with all the things you would ever hope for in a homemade tomato bisque. I had a Mediterranean wrap that was carefully put together and hit every note anyone would want to have. I promise you won't be disappointed. read more

My wife ordered a croissant and her sandwich came on white bread. Looked at my receipt it said croissant and saw I was charged separate for my pie. GT is a great place to grab a treat. This is the closest location to us, but is still nearly an hour away. Hence, we don't get here nearly as often as we'd like. But when we venture close, we'll often stop for a slice. I like the fact that they have NSA (natural) pies. On our last visit, they had natural apple, which was very good. My wife had the lemon meringue, which she also liked. I also enjoy their coffee here, as it complements their sweet treats nicely. The service was good and the prices were quite fair on our last visit. Two slices of pie with two drinks cost $11.20. For an enjoyable treat, this was more than acceptable. read more

The only thing I don't like is that the company has limited locations for how good their food and service. The menu includes many choices of sandwiches, soups, Mac and cheese, and even quiches. Don't get me started about the choices of pies and other dessert. During the pandemic, they have it set up so you go in 1 door and out the other. I always get the option of 2. Half of a Maurice salad is always one of them. I switch between lobster bisque or grilled cheese, but this time I got to herb tomato bisque. They did forget the bread that went with it. My husband and I stopped in here on Valentine's Day after I saw their instagram post for those delicious chocolate ganache topped cherry pies. "I must have one." I said to my husband. So we went! It was Valentine's Day, after all. When we went in I remarked that it had been too long since I last visited. I'm a big fan of their pies but folks also sleep on their food which is actually pretty solid. In particular I dig their GT Chicken Salad sandwich (chunks of chicken with grapes, Michigan dried cherries, onion, celery, mayonnaise and lettuce blend on a croissant) and their quiche lorraine. In particular I like their combos where you can select two of either a half sandwich or wrap, a slice of quiche, a cup of soup, and half a cup of mac and cheese. Pies are also excellent. In addition to the amazing cherry ganache pie we got (only available for special occasions) I'm also a fan of their cherry crumb, cherry apple crumb, apple dumpling with caramel, berry crumb, coconut cream, banana cream, and chocolate cream! But I've never had a slice here I didn't dig. Oh, and they also have no sugar added options if you're watching that sort of thing. The service at this particular location is really great. At least the few times I've been in. There's a fella there that's super kind and helpful. He may be a manager. He was awesome! Can't wait to get in for another slice soon! read more

The Pie menu is a little bit overwhelming so make sure you stay on the side so people can get in line as you browse around. Please note the line does start as soon as you walk in so either be ready to order - at first I thought you would get seated and someone will come and take your order but it's the opposite. You order up front find available seat and when your name is called then you go get your food. Hopefully they have an option for the elderly and handicapped to be able to be brought to they table because I would hate to see someone spill their hot or cold food on someone going by. The food was great at least what I order which was a Reuben sandwich along with blue berry applesauce which was thick and good; treated myself to cookie which was also delicious and big I must try when you go there. Grabbed a half salad/half sandwich combo to go. The chicken fiesta salad with chipotle ranch was delicious. They package things separately for to-go orders which is great. The salad stayed crisp and the chipotle ranch was zippy and super tasty. Just the right amount of spicy to go with the fiesta chicken. The chicken focaccia half sandwich was also delicious. The bread had the perfect match of crispy on the outside but soft on the inside. Service was fast and the wait time was minimal despite it being lunchtime, being steady with customers and short staffed. In November 2020 I offered to order my son a pie for Thanksgiving since he would be staying in A2 for the holiday. He chose to order from Grand Traverse Pie Co and asked for a cherry pie with flaky crust. The staff was patient and helpful in answering all my questions when I called twice from out of town. I took care of ordering/paying in advance & when he arrived to pick it up 2 days before Thanksgiving, everything was ready for him as promised. My son reports that the pie tasted excellent, held up well until thanksgiving and even a few days after (pie leftovers.... goood!) Best cherry crumble pie in the United States! I am from California and learned of this Michigan pie place when I googled best cherry pie in the United States for my dad's 60th birthday about 15 years ago. Cherry pie was his favorite growing up as a child so I had to give them the best cherry pie in the United States. Even though shipping costs almost as much is the whole pie it has been a tradition for my family ever since to have the cherry pie shipped out for Christmas, Mother's Day, and Father's Day since my entire family loves it so much. We are obsessed! When my daughter decided to go to the University of Michigan, I was overjoyed to learn that the restaurant that makes this pie homemade and serves it is 8 miles from the University of Michigan. So, although I live in California, every time I visit my daughter I frequent this place once or twice and have them cherry crumble pie. They use Michigan cherries, and something which makes it just perfectly sweet. And the crumble topping is to die for! The people were so nice and the ambience is cute. They even have a harpist plane on most weekdays. I can't say enough about this place. If you are anywhere near Ann Arbor, it's worth going to! The hand held (turnovers) pies are SO good. The crust is perfect. We tried the blueberry and cherry and would get them again. We also ordered a small chicken pot pie and a couple small berry pies along with some slices. The bottom crust on EVERY item except the turnovers was raw. I stopped in for a late lunch. It's been a while, pre-pandemic, so I don't remember if they had the Lobster Bisque 2+ years ago but oohhhhhh, is it ever delicious. Rich, creamy and flavorful. And the bread that comes with it is a yummy kind of herb bread, not just plain wheat or white. The young woman behind the counter added to the whole experience. Very helpful, cheerful, and welcoming. In these days of staff difficulties, it was wonderful to interact with someone who clearly wanted to help me. The man in line in front of me had driven 40 minutes to buy their cheesecake, so I was tempted. But I'd already chosen the pumpkin square which the young lady assured me was also really tasty. Drove past while on our way to another store and I love pie so thought it'd be the perfect dessert for the lunch we were having with my parents. Upon pulling up to the store there was a sign saying due to the power outage they were only selling pies and pastries and cash only. No problem as we only wanted pie and I actually had cash on me. I had looked at their website beforehand to see all of the pie flavor choices available to me. There were so many delicious ones to choose from. We ultimately decided to go with the ABC pie with the pastry crust. ABC for apples, blueberries and cherries. The perfect combo. There were 4 of us eating this pie and we loved the packaging of it. There are directions for reheating on the box but we chose to eat it as is. It was aaaamazing!! Nice and flaky crust and great fruit flavors. Not overly sweet. In fact we only had one tiny sliver of pie left when we were done. We ALL had seconds. I would love to try their other pie flavors!!
