Steak was not the best I ever had a portion of the steak had hard meat. so don't order the steak. But the potatoes and eggs had good taste. My son had the buttermilk pancakes, deliciosos! Grandma's Kitchen, Monterey We had no plans to visit here, but I'm really glad we stopped. There was a packed house however we were seated quickly. Truly they have a good turn over. This had the feel of a down home dive style restaurant. Personally most of the best restaurants are these in my opinion. We have reviewed 5 restaurants and 2 hotels since arriving in Monterey and each "upscale" restaurant had water that tasted like a swimming pool or just bad piping. Grandma's Kitchen had the best water! It didn't have the standard Monterey chlorine/pipe taste. Annie was our waitress. Lovely person! Very friendly and accommodating, yet not in your face talking forever. All staff that were there were fast moving like a well oiled machine. Customers were well taken care of. My husband's coffee was always hot. They don't offer wifi but their location sits on an excellent free xfinity connection. - Spanish Omlet Was excellent! Great flavor, packed with chilies and avocado, eggs seasoned wonderfully. If you enjoy the Spanish flare of Ortega chilies this is for you. - Ham Steak & Eggs Ham was not overcooked, juicy and seasoned well, eggs cooked to request, home potatoes were very well cooked, tender, not tiny bits but decent bite sized and seasoned well. - SOS biscuits with the creamed gravy (gravy with a creamed ground beef) brought me back to my childhood! If you have country roots, you'll know what I mean, if not, you have to try. - Total cost $35 .... wow that's a steal! Great place. We will be visiting again soon. read more

Absolute perfect classic diner breakfast. We had a craving for breakfast for dinner, and this place was just perfect. The server, Gina, was so friendly and kind and took time to chat with us. And she was understanding when we wanted to sit outside even in the chilly evening for Covid precautions. Popped in to check out their breakfast on a Sunday morning. They were very busy and seemed to have lots of regulars which made it feel homey. The good: Food was solid. Nothing to write home about but tasty nonetheless. Service was friendly. Their bacons was DELICIOUS! Could've done better: Didn't have to wait for a table but service was very slow. We didn't mind all to much since they were busy. Food is very standard but good. This is my boyfriend and I's favorite place around here for breakfast. The service is consistently generous and accommodating. I feel welcomed every-time I walk in. It really feels like grandmas house. The love for owls is shown throughout the place with lots of cute owl themed art works. It makes me feel like I'm at a cute grandmas cozy cabin. It's also very quiet and low key which I've always appreciated. I've never had the anxiety or overwhelm feeling of morning brunch after church at a super busy diner- it's a relaxing and kind atmosphere. There are busy days but some days I walk in as the second or third person in the room. Don't ever let that deter you though- The food is comforting and beautifully home made tasting. Personally it's the taste I look for in breakfast food. My favorite is the chicken fried steak. It is quiet the best I've tried so far around seaside/monterey area. It's very moist and the amount of white gravy used it perfect. They do a breakfast and lunch style I believe. The options of food are great and each dish tastes like lots of love! Hubs and I decided to stop in for a quick mid-week dinner. He had the Squid and Eggs and I had the Pork Chop dinner. Portions were generous and the food was very good, especially the pork chops and calamari...very tasty and cooked perfectly. Hubs also enjoyed the hash browns that came with his "breakfast" and said they were crispy and buttery tasting. The only downside to the meal was the gravy served with my mashed potatoes; it wasn't a good flavor and a bit "pasty" texture. I would order this meal again just without the gravy. Grandma's kitchen is just a small place in Monterey California. They have really good breakfast and sandwiches and burgers. Lots of old fashioned booths and good home style cooking. My husband got a club sandwich with fries and I ordered a bacon cheeseburger with fries. The bacon was cooked nice and crisp and they cooked the meat as I had requested. My burger was really good and the restaurant was spotless inside with very good customer service. The prices are reasonable too. read more

Only ones here for breakfast at 7.20am so service was fast and friendly. This place is cute with all the Owl memorabilia. We both had the Biscuits and gravy special. The hash browns were really good! Cooked perfectly. Biscuits were also good but the gravy was a little salty. They make their own and it had bits of bacon in it so extra points for that. I asked for my eggs medium. When they arrived I saw that dreadful crust around the edge (meaning they were cooked too hot and fast) but hoped for the best, but they were hard. When our waitress came to check on us and asked how everything was I mentioned the eggs being overdone and she happily said she'd get them redone. She bought me 1 perfectly cooked egg, not 2 which I was expecting. Oh well, I was happy it was cooked properly. Overall it was good and we prefer to patronize family owned businesses so we'll be back to try other things on the menu. Small parking lot in the back. No street parking. read more
