It's an old restaurant, the aesthetic felt run down yet "homely" like a visit to Grandma's house. Steak and eggs left some to be desired, the waiter asked if we'd like seasoning but when the steak arrived it was very plain. $3.40 for a glass of OJ is kind of absurd.... meal was filling none-the-less, probably won't return though. read more

I have eaten here many times in the past year after finding it. Had heard about it but did not know where it was, and it is kinda hard to find since they don't have very good signage. My main meals have been breakfast and the Pork Chops freshly made Chicken Fried Steak (not a pre-made chopped and frozen steak) are to die for. The Biscuits and Gravy are great. I have also had the Eggs Benidict and they have been cooked to order with a nice runny yolk and the sause had just the right amount of lemon to make it a little tangy like it is supposed to be although I was a bit disapointed in that they used thinly slice deli ham instead of canadian bacon which is traditional. There does seem to be a problem with consistantcey with portion size and food temps coming out of the kitchen, and it is not the servers fault as they pick up the food as soon as it is sat in the window. The walls could use a new coat of paint and the carpet does need to be either cleaned or replaced and the wood on the counter needs to be replaced as it is all chipped and the edge of the counter catches on your clothes if you sit too close. This is my go to place when I want to go out for a good home style meal and I don't want to cook at home. read more

Opened at their new location on July 4th and we were one of the first customers back. Good food with generous portions that aren't soaked in grease or over-seasoned. Very big menu so we can always find something to order at a reasonable price. My husband and I always order the breakfast specials and sandwiches. We often eat there 2 times a week either dining outside or carry out. Always good to see familiar faces during this unnormal time we are in. The food that I saw and ate is not homemade nor tastes good. I had the chicken dinner with a salad, mashed potatoes, and green beans. The chicken was frozen, but tasted fair. The house salad was decent. The mashed potatoes, I am pretty sure, are not homemade. If they are, there is still no flavor and the gravy is terrible. I've been wanting to eat at Grandmas for quite sometime. Its close to where i live and read they have good biscuits and gravy. My Friend and I popped in for breakfast the other day. While the service was very good and the restaurant very clean the food was a big let down. Expensive!!! The portions are minuscule. Our food also came out very lukewarm and bland. Their clientele seemed to be senior citizens and i got the impression that there cooking caters to perhaps their dietary needs? Bland, not hot and small portioned. The biscuits and gravy were just awful. On the plus side my friend and i took advantage of their yelp check-in special of a slice of pie for .99cents. We shared a slice of mixed berry pie which was really really good. Go for pie and coffee but don't bother eating breakfast. read more

Quite easily my favorite place to eat in Oceanside. Plenty of seats, coffee was fresh. Waiter came by after about 30 seconds. The food didn't take long to cook and it's very well plated. I chose the kielbasa omelet and it came out in a rectangle, along with the hash browns in a rectangle as well. They added a garnish and a slice of orange. So we came to try out this place because we like to have the occasional breakfast at smaller mom n pop type restaurants. Well the place seemed nice enough but once we sat down began to feel very uncomfortable. First the breakfast took forever to get here but that wasn't the worst of it. I kept catching the host/server staring at me on multiple occasions. I don't know if it's my tattoos or what. There was also a table across the restaurant talking so loudly I could hear them talking about "finger blasting b!tches" among other inappropriate statements. Instead of waiting in line at another place on Saturday morning come on over to Grandma's Restaurant. Delicious, fluffy biscuits with creamy gravy. Best I've had in a long while. We also shared the taco omlet. Again, very good with sour cream and salsa. Coffee hot and tasty. Great service (with a smile).....This place has been around for years they say and it does show a little wear and tear....just adds charm. Plenty of room for one more. Food was just okay nothing at all special. Service was also very flat. I went with my small family for breakfast on a Monday. I ordered several orders of waffles and one of my plates did not have syrup, I asked for another and the waitress said "you already have some on your other plates." And walked away.. Really! Google searched "cafe" & went to try this place out on a break from work in Oceanside. Got the veggie omelette with wheat toast & coffee ($12). Took 20-25mins. Place wasn't busy. Went it arrived it wasn't hot, just warm. Avocado was too ripe (browning). All in all the taste was ok. Problem was 20minutes later it was exiting me. Would I go back? Probably not. read more

Came in here to try it out for breakfast after hearing alot of good things about it. Food was a non starter, we ordered the Kielbasa omelette and for as much stuff it had in it taste was not one of the items. The hot chocolate was lukewarm at best and the short stack of pancakes (2) were average. The server we had was not feeling it today, hopefully her day went better later. This was my frist time at this resturant, it was good. I had the #6 French Toast and scrambled eggs. I wanted to try the cinnimon rolls cause on yelp they said they were homemade and they looked delish, but when I got there and I ordered it, it was warmed up in the microwave and it was stale, pretty dissapointed. Stopped in for dinner with my wife. We got the all-you-can-eat fish and chips. When our food came the presentation was nice with 3 big pieces of fish fries and coleslaw. Fish was mostly batter but fries were good. Service was ok but slow. This place could really use some sprucing up and better lighting. We will not be going back. read more

This was my first time here and I was not disappointed! I would have taken a picture, but the food looked and smelled so good I devoured it. The menu is filled with classics such as: omelettes, egg benedicts, and steak and eggs. I ordered the omelet. The omelette had enough veggies, cheese and meats to make it a filling meal by itself, but the home fries topped it off. The service is great - friendly and attentive. When you see restaurant reviews in Oceanside/Coastal San Diego you don't find Grandma BB's -- you should! Nothing better than REAL breakfast and they have it. When I first came to grandma's you can't help but feel like your at home. it's based in a senior community, so a majority of their customers I always see are seniors but hey their the best! =) when you first enter your always greeted by the sweet waitresses and they give you the option to sit where ever you'd like. I have my usual table and thankful it's always open every time I come. As you sit down no matter the holiday they always have it decorated in such a cute way! as you look around they have pictures of people, I'm assuming either they are friends of theirs or customers. you will also notice the walla decorated with paintings and house decorations. to my suprise they were for sale, everything has a price tag showing what it's worth, I thought it was cool because you always go into restaurants seeing things you like and in a way wanting it or wondering where they purchased it lol so I thought that was a awesome idea! when I go their I always get the Kalabasis omelet, sorry I may have spelled that wrong lol with potatoes. it's delish! and I get it every time I'm their, they also have some goof freshly squeezed orange juice their style of cooking is home made and it's rare to find that in restaurants these days so if your in the mood for a home cooked meal than this is your place! I've been going to this restaurant for breakfast for the past 6 years since I moved into Oceanside and I always mean to write a review but I forget...finally remembered today! I feel like this restaurant is cozy and a comfy feel-good place...reminds me of grandmas house! It is in no way upscale or fancy, complete opposite actually, but that's what I love about it, it's no frills but good people and good food....feels like home! The staff have been the same guys and gals throughout the years, and they are so kind and welcoming. One lady, Melanie, is very sweet and remembers us every time we go there. There's another younger girl, I forget her name, but she is also as wonderful. There's also a man who's always there and he's always smiling, seems happy to be there. They are very accommodating, service is super fast, the food is fresh and very delicious, the portion sizes are big, and it's just an overall perfect example of how a successful family restaurant should operate. We hope this place and the people will be here forever because we will be lifelong customers! read more
