    Garlic Mashed Potatoes

Our server was Jordan and she was great. The environment was very nice. Food is VERY expensive for the area. Medium rare steak came out rare. Medium steak came out medium rare. Fries - 4 stars Very good fries. Nice and crispy. Could use a touch less truffle so that you can comfortably eat the portion served. Garlic Mashed Potatoes - 4 Stars looked amazing and tasted good. A tad less garlic for me would've been great BUT would order again. Lobster Tail - 2 Stars Small and wouldn't order again. Cold as well. Lamb - 3 stars Ate the plate but very dry. Wouldn't order again. Seasoning was good. Pasta and Chicken - 3 stars It was good but nothing great. Wouldn't go out of my way to order again. NY Strip - 4 Stars Would order again. Tasted great and seasoning was great. Wife ordered Medium and got medium rare. Porterhouse - 4 stars Fat melted in my mouth. Again, the seasoning was GREAT! Ordered medium rare and was mostly rare. I would order again BUT it is $79... Chocolate Cake - 5 stars Wife ordered desert and when it came out we couldn't believe it. It looked like half a cake on the plate. Wife loved it and would go out of her way to order it again. We understood the price of the menu prior to going BUT with being that highly priced especially in this city you would expect 5 star dishes the whole time.

These are the appetizer crabcakes they are divine.

I was take to dinner by my client this evening and I was very impressed with the food and ambience and the setting of the restaurant, it is a must go and check it out. You will not be disappointed.

    Lobster, asparagus, steak

The alligator is amazing. Definitely our favorite item on the menu. The lobster was done perfectly and the sides were delicious. My husband wasn't dissatisfied with his steak, but wasn't in love with the quality for the price. Our service was good the two times we have been there. We like sitting on the patio outside but aren't in love with the interior.

Didn't seem like any of the employees wanted to be there. Food was meh, and the "throwback decor" just looked old and worn out.

Small restaurant that runs out of memo items. The prime rib was not very tasty. Calamari was also bland. Loved the bread.

I have never done that before, but this was inedible. It was replaced with a burger, which was fine. Not mind-blowing. Good fries, but unevenly seasoned. I was so excited to celebrate my birthday here and it was disappointing. My nephew had the mac & cheese and thought it needed more cheese sauce - but the hot dog he added to it was excellent. My mom's strawberry salad had no strawberries on it. When we asked the server, she said that it was a strawberry vinaigrette. When we double checked the menu, it looked like strawberries were one of the ingredients, and it was topped with a poppyseed vinaigrette. My dad had the white fish and was very happy with it. My sister had a pork chop and said it was good. Our server was really nice and gave no pushback on replacing the entrée.

Our experience started off on a bit of a sour note. We were a walk-up (no reservation), so we were put on the waiting list, which was fine. We said, 'That's cool, we will just have a cocktail at the bar.' The hostess stated, 'We can't.' We went over to the Mexican bar and waited. One thing I noticed was that there were three empty tables. We waited and came back, and lo and behold, the same tables were still empty, and remained so for basically the entire duration of our dinner. The food was fine, nothing really stood out per se. The steak was a bit under-seasoned, and the salad my wife had was ok. I would say that the cocktails were well-prepared. I completely understand that one is paying for the location, but I honestly would think one would get something a little better than what we were served.

I started with the Tempura Fried Cauliflower appetizer, which ended up being my favorite dish of the night! You can choose between sambal aioli or crabapple BBQ sauce -- I had the aioli drizzled on top and the crabapple sauce on the side, and it was amazing. I'm not usually into autumn spice flavors, but the crabapple sauce was subtle, slightly smoky, and paired beautifully with the crispy cauliflower. For my entrée, I had the Coconut Curry Bowl. It was flavorful and hearty, though a bit strong and salty for my personal taste. They also offer a kids' menu with generous portions (I've included a photo for reference -- grilled chicken, fries, and veggies). Overall, great vibes, friendly service, and a wonderful cause. We loved supporting a non-profit restaurant dedicated to the arts and community development!

We came across Silos and figured it looked like a great spot to try. Parking wasn't terrible, but since the lot is shared by several nearby businesses, it was tough to find a good spot on a weekend. Once we parked and walked in, we were seated fairly quickly, which was a plus. That said, it did take a while before our server even acknowledged us. By the time he came over, we had been sitting for quite a bit, so we went ahead and ordered everything right away. My wife and I ordered the walleye cakes and a few drinks. When the drinks came out, my wife's Diet Pepsi was missing, so I had to ask our server to get it. For dinner, I ordered the Norwegian salmon with lemon pepper green beans and garlic mashed potatoes which was a wonderful combination. My wife had the seafood pasta, but it wasn't quite what the menu described. Not sure if there was a new chef or if something changed in the kitchen. Overall, it wasn't a bad first visit. There were some bumps, but the location is great--right off Lake Superior with outdoor seating and a beautiful view. The atmosphere is peaceful and relaxing, the menu has solid options, and when the food is prepared right, it's full of flavor. The drinks were also really good, even the virgin margarita was a smash hit. A few things could definitely be improved: service felt slow even though it wasn't very busy, and there wasn't any welcome or smiles when we arrived, just kind of routine. Parking can be tough, and if you have mobility issues, even the short walk from out front could be a bit much. That said, we're open to giving it another try. There are other items on the menu we're curious to try, and we visit Duluth at least once or twice a year so hopefully next time, the service will step up and this place can become one of our go-to spots.

We went to the Lake Ave. location in Canal Park since it was walking distance. Walking into the establishment you are greeted with the aromas breakfasts being made and a hostess who was friendly. We opted to eat outside under the covered patio to enjoy the day. The menu has plenty of options to suit one's fancy - pancakes, waffles, pecan/cinnamon rolls for those with a sweet-tooth, and of course any number of savory plates for the rest of us. Making an eating decision can prove difficult. the Huevos Rancheros looked appealing as did the breakfast sandwich, and the brisket eggs Benedict. I opted for what was behind door number four and picked the country fried steak and eggs. Much to my delight, instead of the usually Sysco food distributor breaded chopped steak topped with a gravy from an institutional food can - They actually used a rib-eye for the steak, and homemade gravy. I also had the option of toast or a pancake. I always love me some decent rye toast, but today was a day to mix it up, and the pancake was nice, and not too big. I also liked that there was an option for blueberry syrup, or Maple syrup. The other item ordered was the Greek Omelet, my wife truly enjoyed it, and they also cooked her hash-browns to order which she appreciated (she likes them really, really crispy). I this will definitely be a must have place to eat every time we are in Duluth. I highly recommend this place.

I think the boozy brunch crowd comes in late morning. We were seated quickly and ordered breakfast. We got the usual pancakes, French toast, etc. Everything was good. Best ever? No, but pretty solid and the portions were generous. The kids ate it, which is most important. The service was good, too. It was a bit hectic for the staff because they sat like 8 parties of 4 all at once - all with kids, so it was a lot for them to manage, but they pulled through and we were well taken care of. I heard it gets packed by mid-late morning, so if you can, get there early!

I said no at first because it looked like a depressed bar but what set it to a yes instead was the glorious smell that wafted from the restaurant during the afternoon before we went while they were freshly smoking their meats. So when the decision came to find a place, we said why not? We came on a Friday, which was even better, because we were able to take advantage of their Friday fish fry. I looked on Yelp to see what we should order while here and the fish fry got a lot of mentions so we decided to try that and some of their BBQ. The fish fry was worth the mention. It was AYCE but I would be surprised if you could want more after the first plate with their generous portions sizes. The fries were in-house hand cut and covered with Parmesan cheese. The fish was crispy on the outside and flaky on the inside. It was a great Up North-style fish fry. The BBQ was very good as well. I tried the pulled pork sandwich and it came on a giant bun. Once again, the portion sizes were very generous. The sandwich came with a side of homemade BBQ sauce but honestly the meat had such a good flavor I didn't even need to add any to the sandwich. I have to give them a thumbs up for making many of their items like sauces and sides in-house even though it seemed like they could get away with less quality for being a small town bar & grill. This place really hit the spot, we were looking for no frills comfort food, and that is exactly what we found at The Shack. Price point vs. portion sizes were great and the service was small town friendly and prompt. Looks can be deceiving but The Shack isn't the dumpy bar I thought it was at first and I am glad we gave this place a shot.
