We had such a sweet experience at The Giraffe Winery at Grapetown Vineyard and Farm! The winery is cute, aesthetic, and has a very chill vibe. Great for getting lovely photos, enjoying a glass of something you love, or trying a flight to find a new favorite wine. They offer wine, cocktails, beer and nonalcoholic drinks. My daughter and I experienced the Fredericksburg Giraffe Safari and Wine Dinner and stayed overnight at the winery property in the Barndo Suites. The suites are one bedroom and perfect for a couple to enjoy. Private shower, queen bed, small fridge and quiet rooms with chairs outside to look at the stars. First, we checked into our suite with the help of manager Dusty, who made sure we were well taken care of the entire time. Thanks, Dusty! Then we went to the winery for our 6 p.m. tour that included a petting zoo-type experience with sheep, goats, an alpaca, and capybaras. So cute! We were able to view kangaroos, lemurs, and unique types of deer. From there, it was the Safari tram tour, which helped us feed and look at more alpacas, zebra (which we fed!), and explore the property. When we returned, we met Geoffrey the Giraffe, fed him lettuce, and learned more about his rescue story. Super unique spot to take photos and relax with a drink. Our ticketed experience included a dinner at The Bankersmith Boil Shack, which is a short drive away. Bankersmith is a divey cool restaurant and bar that featured live music. Relaxed atmosphere, more animals and decor to explore, and good food. We had the burgers, which were grilled JUST right. The beignets were delicious, and if you like steak or seafood, you're in the right place! It's kid-friendly too. This is a great combo experience if you're not from Fredericksburg and want to enjoy your time at the winery without driving home. Lovely getaway for us big(ger) city folks. Experience was great! The price was a bit high . ( $109 for infants & kids is a bit much ) but the overall experience was nice. Loved the location and venue . The staff was all attentive and great! The walking tour first was nice and information filled. Our guide new a lot about the animals. The tram ride was relaxing and a nice way to let kids explore safely. I loved the ability to pet animals and feed the zebra along the way. The wine tasting after felt a little rushed on the wines and weren't all anything super special but were good and something catered to all. The set up of seating and decor was beautiful. We did not add giraffe feeding and being about to see the giraffe felt enough . They also had goods for sell that smelled lovely. I wish they offered small bites other than chips and nuts and if they did we didn't know. I loved the drink samples. Their cucumber cranberry smash was so refreshing. What an awesome experience. The atmosphere at Grapetown Vineyards was dope. It felt great getting out of the city and spending time on the farm feeding giraffes and zebras while enjoying some genuinely delicious wine. Feeding the giraffe was honestly one of the coolest parts of the trip. The staff was amazing and special shoutout to Dusty for making sure we were taken care of every step of the way. The scenic views are breathtaking and the entire property has such a peaceful, relaxing vibe. We stayed in one of the rooms on the property and I was seriously impressed. I'm not sure if they were newly remodeled or newly built, but the rooms were modern, clean, comfortable, and way nicer than expected for a farm property. Not too far down the road there's also an incredible steak and seafood restaurant that completely surprised me. Delicious seafood boil bags, great cocktails, live music, outstanding service, and even goats on the property that added to the Hill Country vibe. One thing I really appreciated was how peaceful the area is. Everything closes around 9 PM and things don't really get going until about 10 AM, which honestly makes this the perfect place to unplug, relax, and slow down for a couple days. Only thing I wasn't totally sure about was the vineyard side of things. I didn't really see grape vines on the property, so I'm not sure if they make the wine there or source it elsewhere. We took the girls to Fredericksburg but wanted to make sure we found something the whole family would actually enjoy together, and that's when we discovered Grapetown. They have the coolest safari experience with tons of animals you can pet and feed. Part of it is walking and part is on a trolley, which made it really fun and easy for everyone. The entire family loved it. And for the adults, you can even add on a wine tasting at the end, which was such a nice touch. They don't have their own established vines yet so they serve wines from other vineyards. They also have yurts and lodging on-site, and since staying in a yurt has always been on my bucket list, we decided to go for it. It ended up being such a fun experience. One of my favorite parts was sitting outside in the evening just listening to all the animals around us. It was peaceful, relaxing, and honestly just really special. read more

That's because this place will give you a free glass of wine for a 5 star on Yelp, Google, or TripAdvisor, and indicated by various signs on site. I don't think any of these wines are actually made on site. I did enjoy the wines I tasted but the sweet varietals availability outweighed that of the dry ones. Many reviewers note the beauty of the vineyard. I think those reviewers probably haven't visited Signor and Heath. I chose this vineyard primarily because of the animals. I truly did enjoy feeding and petting them. However, for a very similar safari experience (sans wine), I prefer the Exotic Resort Zoo in Johnson City. There were only two employees I came in contact with. The young man that took us around the petting zoo was very friendly. However, the older man that operated the tram, not so much. I think I was taken aback by multiple signs on site stating tips are appreciated, yet not much was done to warrant gratuity, especially for the latter employee. His name may have been Dusty. Once at the bar, he was much more concerned with looking at his phone than serving patrons. The only time he seemed to perk up a smidge was when a couple tipped him. I tipped him too, even though he pretty much ignored me while I waited to place my flight order. I hate to pull the race card, but I couldn't help but wonder if that accounted for the difference in treatment. It isn't very likely I would return and even if I did, it would only be for the animals and not the wine, which is an available option. read more

Absolutely horrible that they denied a refund for a safari tour for 7 people, $97 per person, that didn't actually happen because the tram wasn't working, there was mud everywhere, cars couldn't even get out and were getting stuck. There was a rain storm that lasted hours and not even any animals to look at. Also the wine tasting? More like 4 tiny glasses that includes their sweetest wines ever and not even worth $25. This place is a complete scam. Do not book this place or the safari wine tour on Expedia or any travel site because Expedia will just side with them saying that they HAVE to abide by their rules. read more

Not a true winery. All the animals are from breeders and get pregnant by other animals in the exhibit. Very hot temperatures for nearly all the animals here, no fans, and cages didn't look clean. Lots of children running around and screaming so if you're wanting to go here on a date or celebrating something check out Slate Theory Winery or Augusta Vineyards. Wines they give you are from Target/Walmart, nothing is what they make. There are no wine cup souvenirs either. Place is like a zoo. Bathrooms are clean and that was the only good thing this place had to offer. read more

The tour starts off with a visit to the petting zoo with several friendly types of animals and some rescues. When your done with that then grab your drink for the ride. We got to feed some zebras and the camels. There are light snacks for purchase and plenty of wine,/beer/cocktail options. Plenty of indoor seating and more outside seating play set and out door game. The property was cool because it's an animal sanctuary where you can go on "safari tours". This visit was particularly for wine tasting but I was disappointed because they didn't have any tastings of their own wines but rather other vendor wines not local to the area or Texas. The day we attended, we had to park on a hill because they had a pop up shop of local vendors set up by the main parking area closest to the tasting room/hall. Which also, was $20 parking due to an event of sorts. To get a tasting wristband, we didn't know you had to purchase it outside where the vendor stalls were and it took them forever to get us checked out and paid. It seemed as if their handheld POS system wasn't functioning well. I would however come back to experience the safari tours and animal interactions. read more

Came here for the tram ride offered by the Rockin Rib Festival nearby. The tram rides start every hour on the 45th minute so we enjoyed their wine tasting while waiting for that. It's $30 for 4 tastings. Rick took care of us and walked us through each wine. We typically enjoy dry reds but they have white and sweet wine varieties as well. Ambiance was really cute. It's an open barn style kind of winery. Had a string duo playing when we entered. Had some Bridgerton vibes going with the modern songs they were playing. They are all grocery store wines offered for the tasting. Their animals are not rescues, but rather obtained through private breeders for the explicit purpose of business. One goat had wire wrapped around its hind legs, and the capybaras had NO WATER available in their enclosure, despite being told that they love water and are semi aquatic. The safari tour is more of a petting zoo experience. It is certainly a novelty but probably more interesting to children. It's about $63 for non drinkers and children, and $97 for the tour plus a wine tasting. Honestly we all kind of regretted doing the tour and wished we had just done a wine tasting. That said, they served only wines that they don't make on site. We had some excellent wines, like the Apple Pie, but you can also buy it at Total Wine for about a third of the price. Overall I'd say it was worth it for the experience of enjoying the beautiful tasting room and view and trying wines I wouldn't pick up if I were just browsing at the store. I would return, but probably just without a tour or reservation. read more

Me and my wife purchased the "Cow Cuddling" in there words they say " cow cuddling, exactly how it sounds" Trust me it is not, you'd think you'd be put into an area with very friendly cows who, you know, like to cuddle, you'd also think it would be a solo kinda experience for $120 for 30 minutes for 2 people. Oh how we were wrong. We were shocked when we found out that we were in a group of 25 people and put into a gated area full of goats and 3 cows, please note non of the cows like people. You try to slowly walk up to them they run away. Same with the goats, so there "cow cuddling" is actually a petting zoo for goats that have cows that run away!
