We saw that it had a very industrial atmosphere with writing all over the walls (which were peoples names, and it makes a creative restaurant idea!). We went up to the hostess wearing an America 250 shirt and said we wanted a table for 5. She was very friendly and kindly guided us to our table. We The menu was large, and had some very funny names like "Toot Toot, Here Comes Some Fruit!" and "Why The French Hate Us." For my drink, I went with coffee. I added some cream and sugar with the help of my daughter, and it tasted very sweet and delicious. For my breakfast, I went with the Why The French Hate Us. It is a croissant stuffed with sausage and cheddar cheese, with gravy. While I was waiting for my food, my mom (the kids paternal grandma) decided that they would put these teal cardboard crowns on my dad and me. When we put it on, a young kid complimented our crowns. We said it was for an early fathers day breakfast. Even though it was Juneteenth. Which suprisingly this place was still open. The negatives- If you're a vegetarian/vegan your options are limited. Even with modifications to the menu when you remove unwanted items, they still have potential to show up on your meal. I ordered the lighter side Brussels hash. Removed the chicken sausage, but there were a few chunks in my dish. If you don't eat meat, this is hard to stomach. The so/so- Coffee is strong. But if you want to add milk- they have poured almond milk as a side but the creamer is coffee mate. (Yuck!) The positives- the serving size of the lighter side menu is perfect. I left not over stuffed. The service was attentive and the price is pretty typical of a solid breakfast meal ($13- 15ish). I stopped at Shack breakfast since I was in the area and what I thought was gonna be regular diner style restaurant turned into a whole vibe. From the minute I stepped up to their door I was greeted by a hilarious sign outside their door, then walked in to an urban hip hop graffiti style entryway which was cool. The menu itself was clever and tbh downright hilarious, hats off to whoever made it! I tried the starchy & cluck breakfast sandwich. I really wish I could say I liked it because I enjoyed the whole vibe of the restaurant but I didn't like the waffle. The waffle was subpar and tasted like a waffle from a hotel continental breakfast bar, but the chicken was amazing. We waited a little over 40 minutes for a table, which was definitely the biggest downside. Once we were seated, though, our waiter was very attentive. We actually had to move tables because the ceiling was leaking from the A/C, but our waiter immediately helped us relocate without making it a hassle. Once we were settled, the food was fresh, hot, and delicious. I ordered the French toast with hash browns, and my dad had a breakfast skillet. Everything came out nicely prepared and tasted great. The wait was longer than we'd hoped for, and the A/C leak was definitely unexpected, but the staff handled the situation well and the food made up for some of the rough start. We visited because we were excited to try an allergy-friendly holiday pop-up food experience (I have Celiac Disease and my boyfriend has wheat and dairy allergies). We picked Shack the Halls. They required that you pay for a nonrefundable "reservation fee" in advance for the pop-up, which was $30 for two people. That $15 per person got you in the door but all the food/drinks were an additional charge. When we arrived, The Shack was beautifully decorated for the holidays but extremely empty inside. There were only a few other dining parties besides us, which made it feel much less festive. We ordered from a special (limited) holiday menu, rather than from the regular menu. There were several gluten-free options but less that were also dairy-free for my boyfriend. I had the Stuffed 'Shrooms and he had a Basket of Fries and we each shared some cocktails off the Let's Sleigh coctails menu. I have to say, the cocktails were really good - strong, flavorful and presented in a fun, festive way. We also were able to share a Chocolate Torte dessert (with the ice cream on the side for me). Our server was friendly and efficient, but he definitely reminded us when our "reservation time" was almost up - even though they were practically empty. I've had the Shack a few times now and I really like it! I can see why it's somewhere my friends who are STL locals all say to go visit when I'm in town. The food and portion sizes are great for the price. I've always gone on a Saturday or Sunday where it's 60+ minutes wait, but I just put my name on the list through their online system and wait at home, run errands, etc. it's really not that big of a deal for me. Service has always been nice and friendly, and it's always fun to see all the writing on the walls. One of these days I'll remember my marker to leave my own message somewhere. read more

A holiday pop-up extravaganza. The space is very cute and festive, and definitely puts you in the holiday mood. We had a larger group, so it was a bit tricky to keep track of our drinks and server since they seemed to rotate a few times. They did cut us off pretty firmly at the two-hour limit, which was a little jarring but understandable given how quickly the place filled up. There's a cute sleigh at the front for photos, though I wish there were a few more photo-ops throughout the space. We love the Shack! We have visited multiple locations and always leave satisfied and full! The service is always great! The food is consistently good! It's not overly loud, but you can expect kids and normal noise levels from surrounding tables and the bar area. On this visit, we had the sweet avo-ritto burrito, which has sweet potato tots, avocado, egg whites, bell peppers, and cheddar cheese in a wheat tortilla with a side of fresh fruit. The other meal was the shack classic, where you choose your own eggs, meat, and carb. This time was two eggs sunny side up, with bacon and white toast. This was my first visit to the Frontenac location, and my first visit to a Shack in quite awhile. I was pleasantly surprised to see the prices haven't gone up much at all. Both our servings were huge. The country fried steak wasn't the best I've ever had, a bit thin and overcooked, but my partner loved his "Make a Grown Man Cry" burrito. The highlight of our meal was the service! Jennifer was excellent and constantly checking in to see if we needed anything. For my meal when my drink arrived I ordered the I don't normally order hashbrowns but when I do... substituted the queso for shack cheese... I sipped my HullyMosa while I waited and on about :10-:12 my food was out it was very quick to be at that capacity because it wasn't just my food but 3 others orders came up as well but it was DELICIOUS! Everything the eggs were fluffy the meat thick... Its a big bar to the right when you walk in and then to the left are all the booths and some tables MORE THAN ENOUGH SPACE! I enjoy eating breakfast or brunch out as I love the food but enjoy it hot. When I was married I often made the breakfast with help from my kids but by the time I sat down it was usually cool if not cold. A place like one of the Shack's in town is great for a fast casual meal. I usually get a Meg Ryan which is a meal you personally craft to your liking in egg style, meat selection, carb selection. I actually appreciate the fact that if you eat at any Shack the food is going to be pretty much identical, they don't go off the rails. I always get scrambled eggs, crisp bacon and I shake up the carbs from biscuit, to waffle to pancake...But no matter which shack it's always good and fast. The menu is extensive with pretty much any breakfast entree you may think of, they also offer some lunch entrees later in the morning and most shacks have a full bar if so desired. I've never gone in big for early drinking but it's an option here. My kids also love the place including my gluten free eating daughter. I think there are at least 5 shacks in the metro area, so it's easy to find one 10-20 minutes away. It seems like there is always a wait and they have an online waitlist and we pretty much do that everytime. read more

My visit to the Shack Breakfast was for a Christmas themed pop up bar experience and and experience it was. There was a very limited menu for the pop up bar and I was okay with that as I was not very hungry on this this. I decided on an order of funnel cake fries and they were amazing and a hot cocoa with a splash of liqueur, it was so pretty I almost didn't want to drink it. The service was great, the workers at the reservation desk was very friendly, they offered to take me and my friends pictures of ourselves that we were trying to take, I really appreciated that. The ambiance.... the pictures does the decorations no justice, who ever decorated put all of their heart and soul into it. If you are looking for a pop up bar experience for Christmas put this on your list, you will not be disappointed. read more

Located just off the interstate, it's a convenient location. The shared parking lot can be a struggle to find parking. Absolutely call ahead, there is usually a long wait. We did call ahead seating 40 minutes ahead and waited about 15 minutes upon arrival. Expansive menu for breakfast items, adult drinks, etc. Everything we have ordered is great. Came here looking for a light brunch place, but left probably 10 pounds heavier. Shack is an interesting place with lots of elements one might consider as maximalism (re: its interior decor and menu), but I'm here for it. The service was quick. After scouring the menu, we decided on the Big Ass Burrito and Gringo killer. Honestly, we shouldn't have finished it, but we did and had no regrets. Serving size was huge. The burrito was the definition of excess, over-the-top, indulgent... it's already loaded with very hearty ingredients, and the toppings of guacamole and crushed Doritos really take it to the next level, adding layers of flavor and texture. I think it was very heavy, and so adding hot sauce to cut through the richness was a must. The Gringo Killer skillet was also pretty good; it's a heart dish with pretty bold flavors. Chorizo was good, and the hashbrown were decently crispy. Definitely hits the spot if that's what you're looking for. Overall, this is a pretty good breakfast place that I probably won't come to too often (because I want my pants to fit), but is definitely a delicious spot to go to try! 4/5 stars. read more

My husband and I took a trip to St. Louis last week, and we stumbled upon this place and fell in love with the food, the people, the decor, and the menu item names! When we walked in, we quickly noticed all of the purposely graffitied doors and windows that made up the interior walls of the dining room. We thought the place was so cool and had such a unique vibe. We got seated in the room on the right of the hostess's desk where the huge BACON sign was, and we had fun reading all of the things written on the walls in the room. We also had fun reading the menu item names because they were hilarious and inspired by pop culture. You need to look at the menu in more detail because the names don't give away what the food actually is, so read all the descriptions, too, so you know what you are getting! When our waitress came to our table, she was extremely personable and told me she loved one of my tattoos, so that automatically made my visit early on. Throughout our entire visit, she was friendly and attentive to us. I ordered the "Almost Made It to Nashville" ($12.99), which is a crispy Nashville chicken sandwich made with a buttermilk biscuit. IT WAS AMAZING, and I wish I lived in Missouri because I need to return and have it again. The chicken was full of flavor, and the sandwich was wet and crunchy at the same time, which is good because most times, sandwiches made with a biscuit are extremely dry. I also ordered an Iced Caramel Coffee ($5.29). The coffee was delicious, and at the table, there were flavored creamers to put into it, which made it even better tasting. My husband ordered the "Steak n' Cheese Omelet" ($13.99) with a side of sausage links ($4.49). He liked his food, but not as much as I enjoyed mine. He wasn't a fan of the "shack cheese" they poured on the omelet because the taste was overpowering. Overall, we had a great experience here, and they have plenty of menu items to choose from. Next time, I would love to order the same thing, but I would also love to order something new since so many items sound amazing. read more

I don't think there is anything particularly special about it, other than its elevated classic breakfast food at a higher price point in a themed restaurant. A bit of a wait after we walked in and were able to be sat. It got louder as the crowd stumbled in. You can write on the walls and ceilings. There's also paper crowns for kids to wear. There's usually always a wait here, but you can jump in line online. Waitress took about 10 mins to come back to us after we said we needed a minute, which was a lot longer than we needed. We were chatting so it wasn't the biggest deal, just a note. I'll definitely be back! I'm not the biggest breakfast person, but this is a good spot to have in your rotation, especially with multiple locations around St. Louis. read more

My parents and I went here for breakfast last week and had such a good meal! There was a small wait for a table, but not more than 5 minutes or so. When we were seated, it took a while for the server to come over, but we could tell she was really busy. We asked for some coffee and water which was all we needed at the moment. I asked for the blueberry and lemon pancakes, my mom ordered the seasonal pumpkin pancakes and my dad ordered a traditional breakfast with eggs, bacon, hash browns and toast. When the food was delivered to the table, it looked so good and we had everything we needed. We enjoyed some more coffee and enjoyed the meals we had. Our server came over a a few times to check in with us. She was friendly and helpful. I did enjoy the pancakes and while I did want to bring them home to enjoy later, I just did not think they would travel well with the lemon/blueberry topping - they would probably just be soggy and not heat up well. We stopped by at the shack while visiting St. Louis but I've been to this restaurant before while living in the area. This location was pretty easy to get to and we came here pretty early (8am on a Sunday) so there was no wait. Part of my table was vegetarian but they were able to remove the meat from the breakfast taco which was great because it was for my 5yr old. The tacos were pretty big but he must've been hungry because he finished 1.5 of them. I had the Tim and Biebs skillet which was wonderful. The chicken was cooked perfectly and pair great with the biscuit and eggs. The skillet is pretty large and it kept me pretty full for a day of flying. I didn't get a boozy shake this time but I've had them in the past. I would definitely recommend getting one as they can bring some nostalgia feeling and taste absolutely yummy. read more

This review will be short and sweet as we've eaten at the Olive location several times. In general, you can't really go wrong eating breakfast here. This is our first time at this Frontenac location... Grabbed a quick breakfast with the hubster...the food was just ok. Waffles and hash browns were a bit undercooked. I like a little more crunch in these items. The fruit bowl was very fresh. The coffee was strong and fresh. Our waitress, Tracy, was very attentive and friendly, but didn't hover. We really appreciated that. She helped us take pics as it was our anniversary. The mimosa stayed with me for a bit and that was a good thing. It contained a decent amount of champagne. :) Of course, we will visit again because in general, the food is usually good and it's just a quirky and laid back place to eat. read more
