This used to be a great place to go. Unlike other reports, I found the staff really friendly and nice. The place is a dive, it's true, but that just added to the charm. I made several runs a week to get a stash of the seeded bagels. What made them great was the perfect balance of seeds and the fact they were seeded on both sides. It made sharing a bagel so much easier! About 6 weeks ago, they began substituting black sesame seeds for poppy seeds. They also began seeding the bagels on only one side. At first, I thought it was an anomaly but I asked and was told that poppy seeds were too expensive! I can only assume that's why they stopped put the toppings on both sides of the bagels. The disingenuous attempt to save money by substituting black sesame seeds and by reducing the toppings left a sour taste in my mouth. I stopped buying their bagels for a month. Last week, I stopped in to see if things had changed. They hadn't. No more for me. Wish I could find a decent bagel in this county. The choices aren't many. read more

Bagels are soft and delicious- lots of flavor! My personal favorite is the pizza bagel. I know it's likely SO bad for me, but it tastes so good! One of my favorite things to do is grab a pizza bagel with cream cheese (I prefer it not toasted) and bring it on a hike through Ragle Ranch park. Schmears are very good, staff is efficient and friendly and they have a lot of beverage options. No, these are not East Coast bagels, but they are really yummy nonetheless and the sandwiches are super flavorful and hit the spot. As a former employee, I will probably always be a lifetime customer. Vegan options: can never go wrong with a bagel and hummus. Non-vegans: Most all the spreads are good. This place has the best bagels in Sonoma County. Their croissants are top notch too, if you like a moist croissant with lots of filling. The staff can be a bit slow but they are very friendly. Depending on when you go there can be quite a wait as the store is pretty small and the queue gets confusing. My only gripe is their inconsistency. Preparation and price very greatly depending on who serves you. My recommendation is to time your order to place with an employee who you know makes a killer bagel the way you like. This is a great stop for eats on the cheap. I think I paid around $8 for a yummy bagel sandwich and a bottle of water. Not a fan of the decor or the space, but as long as it looks like it's kept clean (which it did), I don't really care. But this was probably the best bagel sandwich I've had in a really long time. There is a young man who works here who has been here forever and is always so gracious, super friendly and smiling..... a true treat for sure. Good bagels. Keep in mind this is a low-budget, local joint. The staff get super busy, at times overwhelmed, so it's important to cut them some slack and keep expectations reasonable. Overall they do a good job and are usually very friendly. When it's crowded, you need to be patient. Sometimes the coffee runs out in the dispensers. Our group of 5 ate breakfast here two days in a row - I think we all got the same bagel sandwiches each day. The food is good, and the patio outside is a nice place to enjoy breakfast. I'd agree that some (but not all) of the staff were not particularly friendly (not rude, mind you, just not super friendly), and the process of ordering and paying inside was a bit disorienting (we kept talking about getting caught in the "bagel vortex" of customers in the middle of the store), but overall great. I'd go again for the bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich - lots of good, CRISPY bacon, and good selection of unique bagels to choose from. read more

I love my penne Romano bagel!!!! The service is amazing!! They remember and confirm my order every time. I would give 5 stars but pretty constantly when they run out of something like a specific drink in the fridge or something as simple as raw sugar it can take weeks to get it back in stock. I've learned now to make sure I have a container of raw sugar in my car so I don't have to be subjected to artificial or processed sugars. Also the turn over is a little crazy. Disappointed ordered two sandwiches each minus two veggies pickles and onions and one without pepper chines and onions and mustard. Was then given sandwiches with pickles and mustard on one and the other pepper chines and no mustard. Super disappointed if you can't remember an order then write it down. They also fall apart completely once you start eating. About a week ago I called in and ordered total of four bagels they ended up messing up but were kind enough to tell me if I come back the next day they will make up the two bagels they messed up on which they did the very next day. Approximately a 10x10 order, pick up and make your coffee area with 14 people crowed inside waiting for their food. Don't even think about using their restroom after having to your coffee and bagel because they don't allow customers to use their restroom. Their self serve coffee area was out of coffee and creamer as well. I felt bad for the staff because they were very apologetic, but this is a management issue and not their fault. read more

Great Bagels (: They have so many different unique varieties of bagels and so many different toppings you can get. Everything is fresh-which is very important when it comes to bagels; there is nothing worse than a stale bagel. They also serve coffee and hot chocolate, and they have a beverage case with milk, juice, ect. Their price is fair, nothing expensive but nothing cheap either. The vibe of the place is a little hippyish a little rocker, lots of cute girls work there. They have some outdoor seating, although it is small and right near the door, but nonetheless it would be nice for relaxing with a friend. Their parking situation is a little tricky, I have a large truck so it can be somewhat difficult to fit into their parking lot let alone their spaces; so i recommend taking the easy route and just parking along the street. read more

For me personally, a breakfast can make or break my day and every time I stop by Grateful Bagel in the AM (or PM depending on the night before) my day is nothing short of spectacular. Grateful Bagel's options can be as simple or complex as the buyer dares to dream. They have a vast menu of bagel combinations, but you can also go to flavor town and design your perfect bagel concoction. I myself am a simple man and usually order either a pizza bagel with pesto and cream cheese, a bagel with bacon and eggs, or if I'm feeling a bit wild I'll combine the two. Any of these options I would highly recommend. As far as beverages go they have a broad array of smoothies that I've never tried, they also have coffee locally sourced from Taylor Maid Farms, however my go to every time is their impressive selection of Sebastopol's local favorite Yerba Mates. There is an unquestionable magic that happens when you combine a Yerba Mate with a Grateful Bagel that I can't explain. Usually when you find a great spot like this you'll have to pay the price for it however this is not the case for Grateful Bagel as their prices are reasonable. Most bagel options can be had for under five dollars, so I usually leave feeding two with less than ten. One downside is that the building is a rather small room and they attract a lot of customers at peak hours of the day, so it can be rather packed. There is also no place to form a line, so it can be a bit confusing for the customers and servers on who is taking orders and so on. I have had nothing but great service from all the staff involved in this fine establishment. The crew is always kind enough to talk or respectful when you're just trying to grab a bagel and go. I've also witnessed them go out of their way to help customers many times so nothing but respect from me. After you acquire your food there is no inside seating however they do have a few tables out front to enjoy your bagel with your pals and the peaceful ambience of Sebastopol. I usually just grab my bagel and enjoy my meal in the comforts of my car while listening to podcasts. For the final score I am going to rate Grateful Bagel with 9/10 bagels however, since yelp ranks out of five stars I will round up to 5/5 stars. Over all I would highly recommend Grateful Bagel to anyone. Whether you're a visitor from out of town looking for a taste of Sebastopol culture or a local who has drove past it many times but never had the will to try it, I say give it a shot and you most likely will not regret it. read more

This place is gross! They toast your bagel for two seconds and put two hunks of cream cheese on your cold bagel. Yuck. The service is just as bad as their product. I ordered three bagels toasted with cream cheese and all three were made as described above. The inside is grungy as well. I love the Grateful Bagel. Best bagels around and wonderful service. Local's only tip, ask for the bagel holes. They aren't on the menu, you have to ask for them. Most bagel shops keep the holes for the employees, because they are the Filet Mignon of the bagel. Fantastic! I go here a lot just to pick up bagels the morning. I take them home and fix 'em myself. If my kids didn't like bagels so much, I would never go here. It's dirty. The employees never wash their hands and rely on a lame plastic glove for my food safety. There is WAY TOO much bodily hair on many of the tank topped staff. I also wish I could just get my bagels myself and not have to wait for all the people who get a few bagel sandwiches & specialty coffee drinks etc. This shop's system of helping customers is so slow..I waited 25 minutes with only 3 people ahead of me!!! I ordered a scored garlic bagel and received a cheese bagel. I have received the wrong bagel from time to time. From now on, I will open the bag before I leave. Although they have great tasting bagels, the service is hit or miss. Their iced lattes taste like they burn the espresso.
