Donna, Your comment to my review is further proof of your lack of professionalism! The story was not changing. I was unaware of the medical emergency I was going to have at the time of our call. I felt a stomach cramp at the time I called and asked to reschedule, and it was something I planned to address in doc appts on Tuesday & Wednesday. Once confirmed, I wanted to reschedule the colonic to prioritize those appointments, since a cramp isn't a medical emergency but it was unpleasant. From your comment, it sounds in order for you to have shown compassion/flexibility, you needed every detail of my doctors appts, which I don't understand. Your tone when I asked to reschedule, even when it was shy of an hour's difference from the cancellation period, was abrupt and unprofessional. I wish I'd said then that I couldn't make it, but a stomach cramp is a common enough period/GI symptom I was hoping could resolve (and be addressed more holistically with my doctors the following days). I was unaware of the severity of what would then be a kidney infection until the time I chose to go to the ER. Again, a belly cramp isn't an alarming symptom on its own, nor something I thought indicative of relating to my kidney, but vomiting later was. I called that night as a courtesy, with the hope you'd hear it early am and inform the therapist before setting up. Also, I can still think and write a review with a kidney infection, especially after getting the medical treatment I needed to focus on rather than making it to a colonic appt. Your comments trying to diminish the validity of my emergency are untrue and show further lack of compassion. I left the review because people should know about your inflexibility/lack of compassion. I have been to Gravity twice before which constitutes a relationship, contrary to what you posted, and I asked about rescheduling (rather than canceling) on that call because I wanted to keep the relationship. Again, it was a (barely) 3 vs 2 hr time difference for cancellation, and would've been enough time to disclose to the therapist they wouldn't have to come in. Your manner on that phone call was abrupt and rude. That's another thing people should know before booking. Good luck to YOU in the future when conducting business this way, including the lengthy/over-share responses you leave to negative reviews. This place is AMAZING! If you're in need of some serious detoxification, this is the place in NYC to go. Not only do they have a low-EMF Jacuzzi brand (formerly Clearlight) far infrared sauna with complete privacy, they also have superb colon hydrotherapy services. I've been getting colonics since 2011/2012 after getting diagnosed with a number of vague intestinal ailments...Despite consulting many doctors (both holistic and non), multiple clinical tests (colonoscopy, endoscopy, stool tests, and pretty much everything else you can think of), I was in constant intestinal pain and was left with no answers or solutions to my discomfort. Even after making lifestyle changes, including more exercise and a strict no-sugar diet, my symptoms would still return. i'm back here to finish my review from 6 years ago because this was such an AWFUL experience. i was so young at the time so it was frustrating to me because i never said enough or was taken seriously when i did. i had an appointment with jennifer and she set me up in a room and said to leave my clothes in a basket on the floor and lay facing the wall. as i was waiting, the toilet was overflowing, leaking on my clothes and they were getting soaked. we moved into a different room and i was now getting a colonic and trying to relax. it was painful, i followed the strict diet prior weeks beforehand but had a drink of sake and she was shaming me while giving me the colonic and it was just the worst patronizing experience. after the colonic my clothes were still soaking wet from the overflowing toilet water and jennifer did absolutely nothing to help this situation. i asked jennifer if there was a dryer and she briefly stoped smelling different essential oils to say "no i'm sorry", it was rude and careless. she was literally smelling different samples of essential oils with someone else laughing. i left gravity with a bad feeling and had to wear my wet gravity toilet water drenched clothes home. it was terrible! *it was regular toilet water different from the colonic water system. read more

Before booking my first appointment at Gravity East Village, I sent Donna a message outlining my medical history, current dietary habits, and mild concerns. She responded promptly, explained colon hydrotherapy in layman's terms and answered each of my questions about the process IN DETAIL. When I arrived for my first scheduled appointment, their lovely receptionist greeted me at the door. I met Donna for the first time soon after and was pleased by how comfortable the procedure was and how euphoric I felt afterward. I will spare you the details, but my initial session went swimmingly. In fact, it went so well that I have been back two times since and would still be seeing Donna regularly if I hadn't temporarily relocated to Florida. I went here fro the Infrared sauna and was really disappointed. First of all, this is located in an apartment building. Prepare to have your treatment in the basement. If you're going for the sauna, prepare for being somewhere in between the bathroom and the kitchen. They have a little sauna under the stairs, from where Could hear the receptionist chatting the whole time. VERY NOISY. You also hear every single patient they bring down the stairs, so FORGET ABOUT RELAXING. The worst part for me was that, despite charging the same price than other places with proper sauna offering not to mention customer service, they only give you one small towel (unless you pay extra for the second one) to use in the sauna AND to dry your self up later (there is no shower of course), so you basically have to put on your clothes without being able to clean all the sweat off. It was clear that this is a place for colonics and NOT FOR INFRARED, which is why im not sure why they advertise their sauna. Even so, completely unprofessional. read more

It's not a whole lot of fun going for a colonic, but Gravity makes you feel like you're at home. I've done it twice and I used Debbie both times. She is a doll!!!! She made you feel comfortable the entire time. She also recommended me to an amazing juice bar that I went to afterwards. Awesome! I love this place! I see Elena for my colonics, and she couldn't be sweeter. She always makes me feel very comfortable during our sessions, and answers any questions I may have about my digestive system. She's extremely knowledgeable and helpful, and so is Donna the owner! Even Athena, the front desk coordinator is always kind and exudes positive energy. I also go there several times a week for their infrared sauna; it's awesome and they just got a brand new one. I feel so much better after each session and my skin has never looked better. It really works to detoxify your body and clear your mind. I went here today for a colonic, which was done by Deborah. She's awesome! Her health story is simply amazing! The colonic didn't hurt at all (I was a bit afraid because of a bad experience I had somewhere else). She massaged my stomach the whole time. I feel like a whole new person. I love the gravity technique too, very gentle. I can't recommend this place more. The one minor thing is that I felt a little rushed out of there. I wasn't quite ready to hit the streets so soon. However, the next time I go, I'll just tell them that I need 5-10 minutes to recover in waiting room. I can't recommend this place more!!!!! read more

Jesus, these people! Let me start by saying, this place isn't a clothing store, or a modeling agency, or a fashion magazine, or any other establishment that concerns itself purely with the superficials. Gravity is primarily a "holistic wellness" place that performs colonics, a procedure that, obviously, most people feel pretty mortified about and/or grossed out by. They position themselves as warm, caring spiritualists who accept you, etc., as well as professionals who are there to help. The part they don't mention? That they're SIZIST ASSHOLES! So, I'm in the middle of a 30-day juice fast, and after doing some reading, discovered that it's kind of essential to do a colonic to get rid of the stuff that accumulates in your colon while you're not eating solid food. I've had them before, and, frankly, they're not my favorite thing in the world. So, I figured I'd check Yelp, and try to go with whoever's the highest-rated (figuring they'd probably be the most professional and sensitive to the discomfort that comes with having strangers insert things into your rectum). I called and made an appointment for a couple of days later. The receptionist asked me about any medical conditions or health problems, which I told her about. I then asked her about the gravity colonic, which I'd never heard of. She explained that it's basically a 5 gallon container of water suspended over the client's head, a length of plastic tubing, and a massage table. Okay - low-tech, but fine. This morning, it occurred to me that this "massage table" thing kind of bugged me. I've been on massage tables before, and most of them are designed for stick insects. Normally, I wouldn't care about that, but if I'm going to be on one of these narrow, tiny tables for an hour with a tube inserted into me, well, that sounds uncomfortable. They had sent me an appointment confirmation e-mail with my colonics tech's number (she also happens to be the owner), and I called to ask about the size of these tables, whether they're roomy enough, etc. She said that there is a weight limit, and that they wouldn't be able to perform the procedure if the client is beyond a certain weight because of "the dangers" of using this "pressurized environment" on people beyond a certain size. I mentioned that I was about 10 lbs below the limit. There was a brief, horrified pause on her part, then, "Oh, I'm sorry, but then we won't be able to perform the procedure on you." Then - and here's the kicker - she asks, "When you made the appointment, didn't the receptionist ask you about any health issues you may have?" That just FLOORED me. Last time I checked, my weighing more than she likes doesn't constitute my having a "health condition" any more than the fact that she's older than me immediately renders her "geriatric". My weight, in fact, is no more a "health condition" than my hair color, or shoe size, or any other identifying feature. Way to try to conceal your prejudice behind a mask of vaguely medical-sounding BULLSHIT, jackass! She then suggested enemas and an epsom salt flush (that I do myself, at home). Which, in combination, do more or less the same thing as the colonic, with a similar amount of pressure. So just to be clear - no part of this process is "dangerous" (which, DUH!), as long as she doesn't have to touch a fat person. This repellent attitude runs rampant through the medical (and, in this case, medical-adjacent) community, and it's truly appalling. Just to be sure that this disgusting sizist policy isn't the standard with NYC colonics spas, I called the next one on my list, SanaVita. When I asked them about the supposed "dangers" of my getting a colonic, they were mystified. When I asked whether the equipment would be able to support me, they paused, confused, then assured me that this wasn't even an issue that needed discussing - they perform this procedure on all kinds of people, of all sizes, all the time. And since they employ an actual machine (rather than the vaguely unpleasant sounding "a bucket, a tube, a table, and thou" gravity approach), I'm actually glad that the people at Gravity ended up being asshats. Normally, I don't leave negative reviews, and I don't feel that one bad experience necessarily needs to impact the overall reputation of a business (maybe it was an off day, for example). However, this is clearly a policy with these people, and it's one they ought to be ashamed of - denying healthcare options to people because of personal prejudices (and then pretending that it's based on a sound medical reason and so "out of their hands") is just reprehensible. read more

I never thought I'd be paying someone to put a tube up my butt, but here I am on Yelp writing a review about it, haha. I have had friends and co-workers rave about the benefits of colonics but it literally took me years to muster up the courage to actually go and get one. I did my research online and Gravity East Village was one of the only places with consistently good reviews. They are on the expensive side at $110 for a colonic, but I figured paying a little extra money for a positive first time experience would be worth it. My friends have told me about places in the Bronx and Queens that charge $60-$80, but were filthy and looked like dungeons. It's already scary enough to have a stranger come at you with a tube to flush your pipes out, seriously. Paying the little bit of extra money was not a big deal. It was a positive experience from beginning to end. The girl at the desk who answers the phones and makes appointments is super pleasant and kind and polite. I asked a million questions on the phone and she was patient and took the time to answer everything. Their scheduling is great also because they are also open on the weekends. The place is a little hard to find, especially if you're not familiar with the area. It's on the first floor of an apartment building, and there are no signs on the outside except for that little sign above the door buzzer. It looked a little shady at first, but the space is absolutely beautiful and has a very zen interior. I was almost 20 minutes late for my appointment due to crappy trains, but Cynthia was still able to fit me in. She was very understanding and told me to relax and not to stress over it and forget it so that I could concentrate on enjoying the experience. Extra points for the superb customer service! The colonic itself was not as scary as I thought it would be. I won't go too much into detail, but it was not painful or uncomfortable in the least bit. The sensation is different more than anything, but certainly not as bad as I thought it would be. Cynthia was calming and sweet and I loved that she used aroma oils during the entire procedure for calmness. She also guided me through breathing and meditation type exercises throughout, which was a nice touch. I don't get embarrassed easily so it wasn't an issue for me being half naked in front of a stranger, but I would highly recommend Cynthia for anyone who does have those types of reservations. She very careful at keeping me draped for privacy and it was not awkward or uncomfortable at all. The colonic room was also immaculately clean to boot. For a first time experience, it was close to PERFECT. I went on a tropical vacation the day after my colonic and definitely noticed a flatter abdomen. I loved it so much that I ended up buying a specially priced package of 4 for $400 on that same day. I wasn't pressured at all into buying it, I was just so happy with the entire experience that I felt it was definitely worth coming back. She's great and I feel so much lighter and cleaner overall (no pun intended). With the right vegan/raw diet supplemented with colonics, your skin will glow and you'll be mentally sharper. Donna is the best colonic giver. She makes a slightly uncomfortable thing, comfortable. She uses a Gravity system which is Soo much better than machines (I know from personal exp.) this system is more comfortable for the client and gives a deeper clean-out! WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!!! This place Charged me $115 dollars and refused to see me or re-schedule my appointment, just because I got stuck in an car accident and arrived a few mins late. I even called them to say I was running late. Don't be fooled by all the good ratings this place has here in Yelp. The owner probably pays someone to add their good Ratings - because the fact is whoever gave this place a 5 stars must be completely out of their mind! First of all the customer service is horrific from the moment you call to make a reservation to the moment you walk in the door. These people don't even call you to confirm your appointment - they take you CREDIT CARD INFORMATION UPFRONT PURPOSELY TO CHARGE YOU in case you're late and don't take into consideration ANY personal problem or circumstances you may encounter to miss the appointment or be late to one. read more

The place was clean enough, thank god, and Debbie was very nice and comforting as she administered the treatment--but here's the rub: Colonics don't actually make you feel any differently afterward. Gravity East is a calm environment and a good place to get a first-time colonic. Donna was very supportive and communicative through the entire process. I did feel a bit of criticism from her when she found out that I hadn't gone through the entire regimen prior arriving, as indicated on the website. I highly recommend doing all the things written on the website in prep for your colonic because it just makes the whole experience go more smoothly. Donna gave me plenty of time at the end to clear out and freshen up - no rush with back to back appointments, I really appreciated that. This was my first time getting colon hydro therapy and Debbie was awesome! She explained the entire process to me and made me feel very comfortable. the space is tiny but warm and cozy which what you want as opposed to some super cold sterile place. Not to say the place isnt sterile or clean because it most certainly is but the vibe of the atmosphere is wonderfully warm. Debbie talked to me the entire time which made the 40 minute session fly by. I'm a relatively healthy eater and did a juice cleanse before the colonic which is advised to get the best results. I recently went here for my first infrared sauna experience. I can't say that it felt any different than a regular sauna but I am hoping that it was pulling all the toxins out of my body. I liked that the small sauna was personal and private, but I would have liked to be able to lie down. Gravity East has the worst customer service known to man as I was just yelled at by their administrative support who did not make it clear to me that they would run my card for a missed appointment because my family member was in the hospital in ICU. But, instead they care more about taking $115 out of the pocket of a single mother trying to improve her health. I would never recommend a place that cares more about money, when they claim to be trying to help others. She could not even provide me with a partial reimbursement. After so many troubles with my colon and constant pains, my husband suggested I get a colonic followed by a change in diet (obviously). We ended going the 2 of us there- because he probably needed it as bad as I did. It was out first time. I chose gravity based on the reviews and the fact that it went beyond the simple "medical" aspect. If anything, it had to be a whole different experience! Reading the reviews on yelp I was aware that this is an apartment- and how charming! - transformed into healing center. I was taken care of by Debbie. I loved how I could relate to her. No, it does not look like a hospital, but honestly it feels great for a beginner! We talked during the whole session, mostly about our lives and how food affected them. She is great fun and relaxing, and radiant!! Loved it, can only recommend her. My stomach after the session didn't feel so different, but I was a bit lightheaded. The green juice that thy recommended us to buy and drink near Thomson Square was fabulous. Sitting on a bench, it was feeling like a new path to redemption.
