Two thoughts come to mind when someone mentions Great Harvest: great service and darn good bread. This company has been one of my favorites for quite some time now, and I have never had a single bad experience with it. When first walking in, customers are presented with a unique and comfortable layout. The bread is situated on shelving units that act as the back wall, and above is a blackboard with bread selections for the day. In my opinion, it is incredibly refreshing as the bakers show off their creativity, by changing the menu daily. Not to mention, if had to choose from their entire menu, I would never be able to decide. At the front counter, you will consistently find a friendly employee, ready to ask you if you would like a slice of a freshly baked sample. As a kid, I loved to go to Costco or Sam's Club primarily for the taste-testers, so I am always happy to try a slice. Some favorite flavors in my household include Pumpkin Chocolate Chip, Oregon Herb, and Tomato Basil. Even their Old-fashioned White is moist and filled with flavor. Look to the left or right, and you will see a series of counters. On them are great coffee, delicious pies, and the best oatmeal chocolate chip cookies you will ever taste. If you have ever craved incredibly moist chocolate-filled goodness, the oatmeal chocolate chip cookies at Great Harvest are a must. I once had the opportunity to meet with the storeowners and, after the experience, I gained an endless amount of respect for the company. While it may sound cliché, I could tell that they truly put their heart and soul into the bread. They are a married couple, with more than one child involved in the store. According to the husband, family dinners often act as employee meetings. After hearing this, and knowing the wonderful quality of food, I feel confident that my money is being well spent. The single, and almost insignificant, downfall is the price of products. Do not expect promotions or grocery store costs because, at Great Harvest, it can be a bit pricey. But, just like everything else in life, quality is never cheap. read more

This place is the best for healthy bread if you believe there is such a thing -- great service, great bread, sample before you buy. Only 100% freshly milled on premise whole wheat flour is in many, but not all items. Ingredients are clearly indicated on all items they sell, even the dog treats! While they are more expensive than the typical grocery store highly refined flour breads, they are not much more expensive than other high fiber 100% whole grain breads. I am hooked on the low-carb breads. They are a solid value, especially when you consider they are 1.5 lb loaves. Many of the the sweets and holiday breads are baked with white, unbromated flour and 100% whole wheat flour. They are DELICOUS. I just bought the blueberry cream cheese babka...WOW! Visit and hope it is available to sample. It will be difficult to just buy one, but it will be on sale all of December so you know you can return and buy more. read more

I went into this fine establishment thinking it would be amazing as usual. Unfortunately this was not the case, I walk in to get my usual sample first before I purchase an item. In walks the owner, he has a very cleaver shirt on so I compliment him. His response was disgusting. "You better buy something when you come into my store." He muttered it below his breath as if I would not have the ears to hear it. I am a usual and this kind of disrespect is appalling. Quickly after the cashier apologized for the owner's inappropriate comment. I respect the food and the cashiers, but this owner I will put up with no more. Such disrespect for a loyal customer. Terrible bread. Overpriced and they under cook their bread to give it that "rich" and "moist" texture everybody on this board is raving about. I went to Great Harvest Bread on multiple occasions, thinking that I purchased a bad loaf from my previous experiences. I wanted something nice to go with my morning coffee. So I got a white loaf of bread and a cinnamon swirl loaf. The dough was so raw, I had to bake the bread in my oven for 10 minutes longer! I've been a baker for the past thirty years and Great Harvest Bread is one of the worst breads I've ever tasted. I opened the bag up of my white loaf, and I actually smelled yeast. You should never ever smell the yeast! The texture looks raw, you can notice it more on the regular white loaf bread but yes, there are signs that the bread is undercooked. Just go on an image search for "loaf of bread" and THAT's what a cooked loaf of bread should look like! The edges doesn't have the nice toasted brown color that it should have! As a matter of fact, ALL their breads doesn't have color. The ends should be brown and a little bit flaky but nope my Great Harvest Bread loafs had a much paler consistency than one would see on a homemade loaf. I notice there are a lot of young people reviewing this store and I feel bad they haven't a real good piece of bread because raw bread isn't good bread. read more

CAUTION! We recently tested the gluten-free chocolate chip cookies using AOAC approved EZ Gluten Test, which detects the presence of gluten as low as 10 ppm. The results we positive. We have notified Great Harvest and their initial response was that they notify consumers of potential gluten contamination using a sticker on each wrapped product. The bakery bakes wheat-based products and because of this gliadins and glutenins are airborne, settling on clothing, hands, machinery, utensils, and food. A food made from gluten-free ingredients and baked in a wheat facility is no longer gluten-free, it is contaminated. If you have Celiac disease, you should avoid eating all Great Harvest products until such time when Great Harvest can ensure the public that their gluten-free products are absolutely gluten-free. read more

This place is so amazing! After hearing some horror stories about how some companies make their breads, I decided I wanted to switch to local bakery breads. I go to Trader Joe's and Casey's all the time in that same shopping center, so I decided to try this place out. I've gone 3 times and have always come home with some awesome bread. This last time I came home with a loaf of bread AND hamburger buns! They some breads that are available every day. They also have a list you can grab that tells you what breads are available on what day of the week. You can sample any of the daily breads and some of the every day breads. The first time we got Tuscan Tomato, which was amazing with turkey sandwiches. Next we tried Oregon Herb. I liked it by itself, but wasn't a fan of it on sandwiches because the flavor was really strong. My boyfriend liked it though. The buns we bought were Cheddar Garlic. Definitely worth a try! We got some Low Carb Cinnamon bread as well, that is so good with peanut butter and jelly. Would be great as a breakfast bread with eggs and bacon too.....if I ate bacon anymore! Mmmmmm! This place will be my go-to place for any bread needs! read more

Lots of choices here I went with the chocolate pumpkin bread based on other yelp reviews was very moist and tasty. Also tried the chocolate barada but it was a little dry for my taste but decent. Overall will definitely be back to try several other options as the cinnamon rolls looked amazing. read more

Very Disappointed. I have been a loyal Harvest Bread customer going way back to the previous owners. I stopped by to order Virginia rolls to pick up in two days, (Saturday). The girl at the counter stated they could no longer take orders? but stop by on Saturday and they will have plenty of rolls to purchase. I was surprised at their answer. I have ordered from them many times in the past with no issues. Frankly, if they were going to have plenty of rolls on hand, why couldn't they have taken my order, especially when I pay upfront. I called their Downers Grove location & they were more than happy to take my order over the phone. They mentioned they could deliver my order to the Naperville location for Saturday. I stated we would pick up the order in the Downers Grove location as I was concerned my order would not be there in Naperville. I proceeded to tell her what happened in Naperville and she apologized for their service. The service at this Naperville location has definitely declined under the current owners. read more

The Staff is wonderful. Not often in this business do you see the same staff and always pleasant and helpful. I have been in Naperville 28 years and a Chef, I always recommend Great Harvest to my large circle of Culinary Peeps! read more

Their whole grain products are very good, but watch out for the white breads - they are not all natural products.

While visiting the farmers market in Bolingbrook, I seen a booth for Great Harvest and thought I'd check them out. On my way to the booth, I seen the gentleman behind the table sneeze into his hands, then pull out a handkerchief, blow his nose and put it back in his pocket. Then proceeded to touch some open bread for display. When I questioned him, he played dumb, when I told him I SEEN him do it, he got rude and told me that he was the owner and he could do as he pleased. Totally disgusted I walked away, They lost a customer for life, I hope no one else caught what he had. Just GROSS! read more
