Visit at this place for lunch and it has always been one of my go to fast casual Mexican restaurants. Our order consisted of the fajitas, combination plate and two crispy tacos, one shredded beef, and one chicken. The restaurant has plenty of tables, but because it is a small building the tables are close to one another so having a conversation is not easy. They do offer outdoor patio seating , but you have to contend with the traffic from the street as cars will be noisy. My crispy tacos were tasty as always, however, I did encounter a bit of fat in the shredded beef taco. My guest ordered the fajitas, combination plate, and was not pleased with the beans as They seem to come out of a can, the tortillas were cold and not homemade, the chicken wasn't seasoned very well, but the steak and the shrimp were. Overall, I would have to rate today's service with three stars.

The food was good, the bathroom was clean, and the woman at the front desk was super nice!

Mostly rice forgot the cheese, sour cream and asked for it to be toasted. It's easier to fill a burrito with rice than meat!

I went to try this place had a Thursday special on burritos. I got a pastor burrito. I asked for cheese and sour cream which cost another $2 which was not in the burrito. Also asked for it to be toasted and they did not do that as well! The burrito had no flavor of pastor and tasted mostly of rice but a decent size but since they messed it up it's not worth eating here again and explains why the place has no customers at all in the restaurant. The cashier will just say yes and that's about it! Shocker another crappy Mexican restaurant. So far I only know of one great place in Hollywood who has been consistently great in size and flavor!

The food is usually pretty good. Sometimes I get enough to eat sometimes I don't, but that's not the problem. I was in there last night and ordered a combination platter one cheese enchilada, and two tacos with rice and beans andside in my combo plate. I took a picture of my tacos. They're burnt.I was so starving, I ate one of them. Why can't we get the blueberry margaritas anymore? That was the main reason we all in the neighborhood love to go there. They're the best margaritas ever. So this is my second complaint that you took away the blueberry margaritas.

Great Mex in Long Beach is highly slept on. The tacos are great, the service is always quick and easy, and the ambience is chill in a tucked-away location. Perfect for happy hour, Taco Tuesday, Friday nights -- really whenever you need a solid bite at peak convenience.

This review is my opinion I write about my experience it's all about the food the taste the restaurant and staff it's never personal - as always I suggest you try the food for your self and form your own opinion. I called the restaurant asking for my order to be wrapped tamperproof he said that they would and they did not tamproof my bag it was tied loosely and all the contents were flipped from how they were carried. Here's what I chose. Cheese Enchilada With Green Sauce. $4.75 They offer red & green sauce but green is the only choice available on the app this enchilada was small didn't have much cheese or sauce and the cheese wasn't melted inside -- to be fair I warmed it up the sauce was seasoned well and flavorful but for that price it needs to be bigger have more sauce and cheese and packaged better for delivery. Hard Ground Beef Taco $4.85 The taco shell was still crispy but the lettuce was wilted and the cheese melted the tomatoes were good the meat was seasoned well and eaten with green and red salsa that taco was pretty good I would really love to try this again with crisp lettuce and shredded cheese as intended. Chicken Tamale $4.55 I ordered mine with green sauce and mine had less than a 1/2 teaspoon of sauce which tasted great the masa was tender and tasted very good however the chicken filling was mid there wasn't much chicken inside and it didn't taste very good I suggest they add more sauce on top and more shredded chicken inside and I would try them again. Guacamole $1.85 Flavorful creamy and very tasty. Pico De Gallo $1.85 Standard pico fresh tasty and very good. Salsa 4 Free salsa's with order. Red Green Smokey & Mild Salsa they all were flavorful and made the food taste so much better. FYI I took a picture of all the food that I ordered on a standard plate and as you can see these are very small portions for a grand total including fees tip and delivery online $29.83 I suggest any future patrons visit this restaurant in person to avoid these fees. I will visit again to see if the food is better as a sit in meal and at that time I will update my review . Just me Shawn C. ' ; )

Awesome little spot! I ordered takeout, crunchy ground meat taco combo and everything was delicious--The flavors were on point and super satisfying. Service was friendly and fast, and even though the place is tiny, it has a really cute, cozy vibe. Definitely a hidden gem. I'll be back for sure!

Yummy Yums! I had the fish tacos and a chicken tamale and everything was super flavorful. I happened to go on a Friday so the tacos had a discounted price. There was two hour parking right next to the building which was convenient. I went around 6p and the restaurant was not busy. The counter and tables were cleaned well; condiments area was organized too. The staff were friendly and patient! I'll be back.

Second time here and it's been great both times. Customer service is wonderful and exceeded expectations. The food is fresh, hot and delicious. There is so much to choose from. I ordered chilaquiles (green sauce) with rice and beans and a side of hash browns. I want in from brunch and it was busy with students, locals and working class. The vibe was great. Nothing but smiles inside this place. I totally recommend this restaurant .

3/8/24: Tortilla crumbs they gave me. Perhaps they ran out of chips!??? Tragic.

I needed a place to grab a quick bite before at event at the Pyramid and walked down to this place. I was optimistic from the smell walking into the place and it delivered. I was a pain in the butt customer in so far as I ordered the pastor burrito, but I asked for the sides of sour cream and guacamole be put inside, no rice (it's just filler) and extra cilantro. The woman at the counter happily tapped away at the screen. She gave me red and green salsa with chips. The burrito was all I could eat (I'm not small), made exactly as I ordered and tasted fantastic! This place is a 10!! I have reason to come to CSULB a few times a year and make this place a must stop...even if it's just to bring a burrito home read more

Who doesn't know about this place?? If you're a local you have to know! I've been going here for years and it's the best food around. Taco Tuesday is especially great! I love the ceviche, chile rellenos, and the beans are awesome. It's busy but the service is still good. Small and quaint with indoor/outdoor seating... or to go is the easiest. Don't miss out on this place. read more

Early morning trip to Lowe's down the street and I had a hankering for a breakfast burrito to-go. Service was prompt. I loved the fact that someone jumped on a cash to take my order while another customer was being served. Nice! Ordered the bacon breakfast burrito to-go. With spicy salsa, of course. I asked how long and she said 5 minutes, but it was 3! Excellent. Got home and ate up. Good burrito. Not too heavy on the potatoes and the right amount of bacon. Loved the spicy salsa - definitely woke me up, and opened the sinuses. Glad I found them! I'll definitely be back. read more

Fabulous tacos, especially the shredded beef, carnitas, and shrimp ones. If you aren't into spicy salsa, their green salsa is your best bet... delicious! They are quite friendly, in my experience, and the wait time isn't too bad on most days. There's taco Tuesdays and even Fridays, along with happy hour specials the other days of the week. Highly recommend! Oh, and there's wine margaritas and some different beers. read more

5 stars for their Taco Tuesday, also offered on Fridays. I wish I tried this place out sooner. They have a good selection of tacos. Veggie lovers can have a choice of a potato taco, black bean, or mushroom. Choose from corn or flour tortilla, even hard shell. I can't comment on the meat since I stick to the fish or shrimp tacos aside from the veg options. These aren't the small tacos either. Their pickled carrots are pretty good but no heat. There's always been street parking when I've gone in the evenings. In addition to indoor, they have an outdoor patio as well. read more

Parking was rough. I think most people do street parking. Not much seating so it's good for groups below 6 but not for large groups. They have a very extensive menu. They have horchata and flan too! Very affordable and filling meal. Mostly every meal came with chips and salsa. The food came out in 5-10 minutes for each person in our group. Not a bad spot for a meal! read more

BEWARE. We've been going here for years and have also referred our friends here too. The service is usually decent, but this last visit left me in complete shock and disbelief. I've NEVER been treated so badly at ANY business like I was tonight. I felt like I was being spit on with disdain. The older lady who regularly works the cash register was extremely rude and disrespectful to me. I was waiting for my take out order and when my name was called I went to pick up my order. I opened up the bag and looked inside to see if everything was there that I ordered before leaving and the lady came over and literally ripped the bag out of my hands and told me that it wasn't my order. She then took my order and started calling out my name! LOL I then told her it was for me and that she took it from me! Instead of apologizing for her rude behavior all she said was that there was another person there with my name as well. Ok. I can accept an honest mistake, but the way she went about it was totally unacceptable and inappropriate. She didn't even seem phased by her rudeness. The owner really should do something to make sure he doesn't burn bridges with his customers. After this incident, I'm not sure I'll be back. read more

Needed to grab a bite b4 the LB/Northridge Bball game. My husband suggested this spot as he does some work with one of the orgs in the building next door. It's small spot, you order at the counter, then they bring the food out to you. I ordered the crunchy tacos, one chicken one veggie with all rice and an Orange Bang! My husband got the tamale plate w/rice and beans and the chicken tortilla soup. The food was good, the chicken was not dry as sometimes shredded chicken is. I tasted some of his chicken tamales and it was good. I've never ordered tamales as a meal only for Christmas! Lol the chicken to Masa ratio was perfect w/a delicious tomatillo sauce. If I lived closer to LBState I'd eat here often, especially since they have wine margaritas! read more

Andrea and the entire crew are awesome. So very friendly, and the entire menu is excellent. Plus tacos are half price Tuesday AND Friday. And..and...their salsas are the just the absolute best. The roasted is excellent, but the spicy salsa is possibly the most delicious I've ever eaten. You just can't find better Mexican food at such fair prices. Really. read more

I ordered through Yelp and got a veggie fajita burrito and a soda. The burrito was delicious, and the chips and salsa that came with it were fantastic! I loved all 3 of their salsas. I also loved that they had fountain soda and not just a can of soda. Does anyone think the taste of a soda at a restaurant is better than from a can?! One thing I miss about dining in. Ordered it a second time and it wasn't as good, but I'm only reviewing for my initial visit. Definitely will try them a third time! read more

Best fast Mexican joint in LBC. $2 taco Tuesdays and Fridays can't be beat. Cali burrito and shrimp burritos are solid as well. If they had a full liquor license, I'd be more inclined to dine-in rather than takeaway. read more

The food and service have always been great. I have been coming here for more than 10 years. The dining area has been upgraded, and an outdoor seating area added. Menus illuminated for buzzed reading. J/k..not really. The atmosphere is always hopping. Good to dine in or take out, small hh, dinner, lunch, snack, or breakfast. This is a hidden gem. I love that you can walk up and order your food and sit down and they bring it to you so it's very fast and efficient and the food is amazing. I tend to go there before all of the home men's volleyball matches for Long Beach State and have a beer and some guacamole with chips. The guacamole is really good and they have a lot of different salsas. They also offer a lot of different tamale flavors and even have some vegan options too. Highly recommend this quaint little Mexican food joint. Love it!! read more

My friends introduced this place to us with tamales during the Christmas season and they were so good. This summer we decided to have the real deal and I was left with a big smile on my face. I had three ground beef tacos, with rice and beans and it all went together perfectly. My girlfriend had a burrito dry with sour cream and guacamole. It was a big one, so in the future, I will give it a shot next time. read more

So my bf and I were in Long Beach and were trying to find a place to eat. We came across this place and decided to try it. The tacos were amazing and tasty. The veggie bowl was so fresh. This is on only place that knows how to make chimichangas. It's a very casual place but very clean. And they brought the food out very quickly. I rarely give 5 stars but this deserves it read more

This place never disappoints! I'm VERY picky with Mexican food and I give the place an A for taste. I'm not vegan but I love all the vegan options. The mushroom taco is so good! They did raise the prices as did everyone but they have some great daily deals, especially taco Tuesday! read more

great mex grill, you had me at $1.75 churro! the hubs + i LOVE that they offer a good, crunchy on the outside, chewy in the inside, warm churro for so cheap! lol, my hubs refuses to buy churros at disneyland knowing that great mex grill offers something comparable for way less. their crunchy tacos are great. i get mine with ground beef + find them satisfying. i wouldn't say they are the best taco in town, but we do take advantage of taco tuesday prices here. parking is tricky. most people park at the adjacent park + walk down the alley to get here. read more

My wife and I discovered this place a few months ago and have fallen in love with the crunchy beef tacos with they're hot sauce are delicious and remind me of the tacos my mom used to make when I was a kid. So my daughter was in town from Georgia where Mexican food is slim Pickens at best, so I picked up some tacos and brought them home for her to try and she absolutely loved them. read more

Horchata was unique since it was coconut based. Overall solid spot with patient staff. Tacos La Rueda is still better, but will be back when in Long Beach.

I've been a loyal fan of Great Mex Grill for years, and it never disappoints! This place is an absolute gem for Mexican food lovers, and I can confidently say they have the BEST nachos I've ever had... anywhere. Each bite is a perfect mix of crispy chips, melted cheese, fresh toppings, lots of meat and just the right amount of guacamole. It's comfort food at its finest. One of the standout features of Great Mex Grill is their incredible Taco Tuesdays and Taco Fridays. The tacos are always fresh, packed with flavor, and you really can't go wrong with any of the options. My personal favorite hack? It's all need just great Mexican food to make me fan. And with the aim of becoming fan came to this place. I have tasted almost every Mexican food places in Long Beach just this place was left alone, so there is no way I am going to miss it. With a big hope entered this place. I was not happy the atmosphere but try to just give a try, so I ordered tacos. It took ages to serve the tacos. The quality of the tacos was OK but my big concern is service. Service is not near to the Standard. I think the price is quite reasonable and good for students. All in all not what I was expecting. read more

I'm surprised I haven't reviewed Great Mex!! I've eaten here dozens of times. Their crunchy beef tacos have to be some of the best in the city. Pair that with fire toasted salsa and chefs kiss. Today I got the shredded beef chimi and wow! Kids went with bean and cheese burrito combos and it was a hit. Can't recommend Great Mex enough! read more

My rating is based solely off of $1 taco Tues/Fri. Authentic Mexican food for a great value twice in a week. I usually just order the chicken or carne asada soft tacos, so nothing fancy. I tend to not even bother anthing else on the menu. Also they take credit cards as long as your order is over $5. Overall, wonderful deal! read more

It's amazing how such good food comes out of such a small establishment! They have a large menu and the prices are reasonable. Fish tacos are my personal favorite, but my family tends to enjoy their burritos. Parking is tight, but I reccomend Great Mex anyday! read more
