Veggie Breakfast burritos. Subtract the meat, add your choice of veggies and avocado. We tend to add beans, mushrooms, and crispy potatoes. Only thing is when you subtract the industrially raised hormone laden dead animal products and add veggies they don't make it as a lateral switch...they will add money. Which is a'ight, no biggie, but just saying. I still go there because early morning grinds too good to pass up. Suggesting a chilly morning drop by for this quick, efficient and semi-healthy, filling morslettes...salsas are home made and yummy too. The best option at this restaurant is $2 tacos on Tuesdays and Fridays. I love the chicken torta but this location skimps on the French fries that comes with it. It is a fair value at $8.50. Other than these options the menu is a bit over priced for fast food. I had a super small shallow bowl of chicken soup for $6.50. It was OK but should come with a few chips, some cheese and a bigger bowl for $6.50. Most other options are fairly expensive. The food is good but these prices would be more likely to be found in a sit down restaurant with table service and free chips and salsa. They offer a bean burrito for $5.95! There are a few locations. I prefer the food and service at the Costa Mesa location. The staff in Costa Mesa are friendly and meet regular patrons with a smile and always remember their order. read more

Was out with my husband looking for a place to lunch and found this little mex grill. The staff was really nice and was able to make some good recommendations. It's like sports vibes with delicious Mexican food. The shrimps in my bowl wet every big and it was a filling dish for a light menu item. Not only was the portion a complete ripoff (see photo and caption) had the health dept came in when i did, the food temperature would not have passed. Yelp's two star review pops up as 'Meh. I've experienced better. Which is exactly how I felt about my visit to the Great Mex Grill. I ordered an Al Pastor burrito and paid extra to make it enchilada style. I also had a side of chips and guacamole. The meat was kind of bland, and lacked flavor. The sauce was decent, and I found myself trying to get more sauce on my burrito to make up for the flavor. The chips and guac were decent. Guac had good taste to it, and you could tell it was fresh. All in all, it wasn't very memorable, and I have had better. Just wasn't for me that day. Unfortunately, I won't be in the area again to give it a second chance. read more

This should be a 5 star review. This place has great salsa, really delicious enchiladas, and amazing breaded fish tacos. Their chicken burritos are great, too. But the reason it's just 4 stars is because they used to have this amazing spicy ground beef and my boys loved to get the spicy ground beef tacos. But they recently changed the recipe so that now the "spicy" ground beef is not spicy at all, in fact it's bland. We still go here but not as much, because that spicy ground beef was the reason we kept coming back regularly. When I ask them why they changed the recipe, they don't really give me a straight answer. It's a mystery, and it makes me sad. read more

Haven't been here since before Covid. Thought we would give them a try. Placed a phone order and could barely understand the man on the other end of the phone. Their phone connection is terrible. Was told food would be ready in 15 minutes, was there in 5 minutes and by the time I paid, the food was ready. I was the only person in there, got home (was 2 blocks away, I drove). Took my food out to eat it and my rice and beans and bean and cheese burrito were COLD!!!! Like they had been sitting there for 2 hours cold! Not tepid, not warm, I'm talking COLD!! I've been skeptical since they were shut down for an infestation a while back. Before then, I used to come multiple times a week. Food is sometimes inconsistent. The shredded beef crunchy tacos are our staple. Sometimes, they are cold, which is all bad. They need to take more time when preparing food to a customer's specific request. Cheese is often not melted throughout on their nachos. Pico de gallo! I for the life of me cannot understand why they charge a million dollars for extra pico! And when you pay $1.75 for more, it's in the tiniest cup almost the size of a toothpaste cap. Churros are good when you request them to be crunchy and not doughy. Staff is nice and kind. Love this place so much, especially for their Taco Tuesday Deals. I'm a student right next door and I'm glad to have a place like this within walking distance. I've only had their Mexican and soft tacos. The tacos are SOOOO GOOOD. No matter what type of meat you'll get you'll be happy with it. Periodt. This place gets quite snug especially on Tuesday so I always end up just taking my food to go and walking to the park right behind this place. Parking is not that bad but can be a challenge sometimes since their alleyway is quite narrow but they do have large neighboring lots right behind the place. I really like this place. It is one of those blink, and you'll miss, type of hole in the wall. I love their Taco Tuesday and Friday specials. I live for those grilled shrimp, soft tortilla tacos with their roasted salsa. Unpretentious, and small location. I have ordered catering breakfast burritos for some meetings, and I so appreciate their morning staff for packaging them and adding the additional salsas.
