My safety expired while the car was in a body shop after being rear-ended. After getting a new bumper I was stuck waiting for weeks to get a safety check in my neighborhood (Kailua). Co-worker recommended Great People Auto. I have driven by them for ages. I left the office a little early (they close at 4:30pm) and headed down. I was literally in and out in under 15 minutes - and this included waiting for 2 other vehicles to finish. These gentlemen also sell the little brackets for your sticker - and intsalled it for me - so that my shiny new bumper doesn't have a sticker on it! If you are a sensitive person I would not recommend this place. They are very rude. yell at you. treat you like an idiot if you ask question. I left in tears and they were still yelling at me to hurry I and get out of the way because there was another person in line. I will say they do have a pretty speedy operation. Drive up service. First come, first served. Fairly quick, depending on the line. First time I went, it took less than 10 minutes but there was nobody in front of me. Second time, there was a line of maybe 5-6 cars ahead of me... it took between 20 & 30 minutes which is still not bad. Very affordable and convenient. read more

I went twice and they weren't giving them after I called to check the times...ANYWAY, I had to go into town today so I searched Yelp for "same day safety checks" and Great People LLC comes up. I was 15 minutes away so I decided to give them a try. I pull up and a car was coming out and there was one other car ahead of me. Went here on recommendation from a friend because I needed a safety check. I do t live in town, but the place by my house did not have an inspector that day. Of course,I left getting my safety inspection done until the very last minute. The uncles running the shop were very efficient and very nice. They all worked together to perform the checks. One person checked out the back, one checking out the front and giving direction, and the other, making sure all my information and pictures were put into the system. A few days ago I had called/visited 4 other safety inspection stations. Either no appointments available or wait 1-4 hours for the inspection. One of them referred me to Great People. I called to ahead and was told approx 10 minutes for inspection. True to their word, I didn't have to leave my car and I was on my way in 10 minutes. Small tidy space, respectful and kind service. Great People really do the job well. I was recommend to come her by my sister for safety checks as she goes no where else but here for the speed and ease of service. When it comes to safety checks that is all the people want, speed and ease of service. I got tired of waiting around at other places so I have this place a shot one time for a safety. I went on a random weekday during the afternoon and it was not too busy at there were just a couple of cars ahead. I waited in line on the side of the main road. I estimated that each car only took about 10 minutes. When it was my turn I was surprised how fast and convenient the service was. I waited in my car, did all of the instructions, got new paperwork and sticker and was escorted back out on the main road. Will definitely come here for future safety checks!!
