I never really had any big issues with this store until my last visit. I bought a pack of chicken thighs that clearly states skinless and from the packaging you can tell it is, but once I opened it I noticed that there was skin on every thigh... It was clearly slit and then tucked inside so you can't see the thick skin from the front of the packaging. I just think that's unethical for a business, all that skin was probably the weight of one thigh... I've heard of these shady things that happen at the market, but this was the first time I've experienced it. They should not have included "skinless" in the title of the product and hid the skin on the inside, felt like it was their way to scam a couple dollars from the customers, not worth it... I like coming here, is my close's Chinese supermarket and it has almost everything I need, is a little more expensive than the average Chinese grocery store. But by the time I drive to San Gabriel or El Monte, the gas prices would be about the same lol. I think all the cashiers ladies are nice. But some of the managers need some improvement, some are just rude. Like when they restock the products or relocate them to a different shelf, they forget to change the prices and we as consumers are not going to look at their tiny bar codes, we just look at the prices and think that's what we are paying for, instead of giving that price, they argue over 99 cents. And over charges you. There's a couple of times it happens to my dad, because is his fault for not checking the receipts before he leaves the supermarket, so my advice is to check your receipts before you leave the store and fight for what is right. That's my principle. If the tag says $2.99, they better give me for that price and not charge higher cause they moved the items and don't change the tags, not my fault. I snap a picture and show them too. Usually I just buy their brown chicken for $15.99, and instant milk tea mix. When the manager sees me, they always try to avoid me because I go there 3-4 times a week lol. To all those who love exploring new markets. I say this particular GW is is good. I love the variety of food, I like the fact that they're always fresh fish when I go. The worst service I've ever received in Asian supermarket. I went inside and asked there's a food court area inside Great Wall Supermarket. One of the employees said "I don't know." to me! How can an employee not know if there's a food court area at a workplace where he or she works? She could have said "I can ask one of my coworkers for you." My dear friend and I spent the day at Knott's Berry Farm this past Sunday. I had to make my food run for the upcoming week afterwards. She offered to drive me to the San Gabriel Valley (SGV) area... so nice of her. Now she knows which restaurants I tackle every weekend LOL. Thank you my friend! Anyway, we swung by GW Supermarket because my friend wanted to pick up a few things. I found out she's out in the SGV area from time to time, too. What we learn about our friends the more we interact with them... just wonderful! I seldom go to this GW Supermarket for my Asian shopping needs. I usually go to the San Gabriel Superstore on San Gabriel Blvd instead or 99 Ranch in Rancho Cucamonga. Getting back to this GW, it's fairly clean and bright inside compared to other Asian supermarkets... Hawaii Supermarket is the worst IMHO. They have a wide selection of everything. They even have my favorite exotic fruits... durian, jackfruit, lychee... I didn't see logan, but I'm sure it was there, too. They accept credit card and cash. Parking is plenty. Every time I'm in the neighborhood, I usually stop by here to grab some groceries. They have a variety of food to choose from. You can say the same about any Asian grocery store. The ambiance is ok. If you have been to any Asian grocery stores, you know what I mean. People don't come here for the ambiance, they come for their groceries. If you like live seafood, you can find it here. Sometimes it can be a little hectic trying to get service from the seafood/meat counter because some customers do not have manner. They just cut in front of you as though you are not there. So I was with friends who stated this market has an abundance of sugary snacks that I'd probably enjoy and they were definitely correct. The place is well organized and their were two and a half aisles of wonderful snacks both sugary and salty. We were in that market for an hour filling our basket full of snacks. I liked that the market was organized and when asked about a certain item the worker not only pointed to where it was but took us to the exact spot. The market was clean swept so you have that feeling that the entire place is kept up for their shoppers. I'll definitely come back for more snacks in the future. read more

I don't know about these Asian markets but they always have that dead animal farm smell that is very strong. They had the Lottery tickets that we bought then we checked out the great beer selection against the back wall which we were amazed at the variety they had in stock. 09/12/2018 This used to be a small one store supermarket before GW Supermarket took over. I thought GW was just one store too until I saw GW in other cities. I came in to check it out and all the shelves and aisles remain the same as the previous supermarket. Items arranged a little differently such as all of the vegetables on display are packaged. Can they do this with some of the fruits like the grapes? I still see people eating them just to eat them when they are supposed to be tasting them if that is even a right thing to do. I like coming to GW for my Asian groceries because it is on the way home to work and it's not packed after 5:30 PM. But besides that, I'm always able to find all the things I'm looking for. The supermarket is sectioned in different aisles. They sell mostly everything. Asian vegetables, frozen food, condiments and poultry. Vegetables and fruits are fresh, most are bagged and some aren't. So you can pick and choose. You can find most of the brands of seasoning, condiments and dry goods that sell at most of the other supermarkets. I love their snack aisle, a lot of Korean and Chinese snacks, I feel like they have more varieties than any others. Prices are very affordable. read more

This store mistreats their employees. I tried calling multiple times to speak to someone explaining the situation hoping to get an apology for the way my older uncle was treated. My first initial call was to speak to human resources. The female that answered thought I was looking for sauces then put me on hold. The next 20 calls that followed was never answered again. Quality Chinese service at it's best. Also, this place is way overpriced compared to other stores. If you have been to Great Wall (aka GW) Market, you would have been to all in the area. I was at first hesitant to shop here since their renovations in Monterey Park were rather hasty (it still had signs from Shun Fat) but it has been removed. Since they're a big chain in the East Coast, I was a bit relieved. What I do like is it seems to offer more of a variety vs 99 ranch. Aside from the usual Chinese staples, you can easily find Japanese, Vietnamese, Korean products. If you're looking for a certain Asian product you might be able to find it here. Produce (specifically their fruit) is hit or miss (some more beaten up than others), but definitely not what you usually see at your typical American store where the quality is more superior. They have a huge selection of Asian vegetables, which I think is pretty fresh and void of soil. This store also introduced the concept of fruits from China (aka Fuji apples / Korean pears) which can cause some skepticism, but it is a cheaper alternative since labor is much cheaper in China. I like coming to this GW Supermarket because 1) it's closest to home, 2) their produces are fresher than other markets, and 3) their price is reasonable. Inside the market is freezing as always, so be sure to bring a cardigan or jacket if you decide to shop for a while. If I could give this place a 0, I will. I usually will shop at other markets when I can. But this market is close by and within walking distance. Today's experience hit the limit for me. I have had bad experiences in the past before. This morning, I went in to buy ginger that was on sale. I saw an older grandma ripping the green nets and taking some of the ginger, telling me she didn't need the whole bag. I decided to do the same since I didn't want to buy the entire bag and let it go to waste. When I went to the cashier, she was telling me no no no. I was so confused. Then she told me I could not do this and they won't sell it to me. She then took the ginger away. I was so shocked. I guess they rather lose profit??!!?? I paid for the rest of my stuff, and left feeling really upset. If you pay with ebt, good luck because they will squish your 12 items in one flimsy plastic bag, causing it to rip. And if you ask for an extra bag, they will say no. I will gladly take my business somewhere else. They should really train their staff on what customer service really is. At this rate, I'm not surprised if they ho out of business. There are so many other Asian markets in the area that provide better service and higher quality. Many years ago, Rosemead supermarket entered my rotation of visiting Asian markets to purchase squid, shrimp, mackerel, and other "Seafoods" for the sole purpose of being used as fishing bait. You see, a 5 pound box of squid cost about six dollars here, while a 1 pound trays of squid at a tackle shop costs about five bucks. After college, my first job was at East West Bank, and I became more intimately involved with Asian restaurants, supermarkets, and other stores in and around Alhambra, Rosemead, and surrounding communities. As a self-professed omnivore, some of my coworkers at the bank took it upon themselves to try to find something I would not eat. This "game" lead to all kinds of growth in my culinary tastes. They never did identify a dish I wouldn't eat. Over time, I came to wander down several aisles at Asian supermarkets, and further developed my understanding and pallet for the delights of Asian cuisine. Many years later, I can now take the Pepsi challenge with just about any visitor to an Asian supermarket. I have learned how to pick the best lychees, durians, and dragonfruit from amidst the piles of sometimes questionable produce. I've taken my number at the live fish counter and even successfully done a little bargaining when the guy behind the counter tries to give me a crab that's missing legs, hoping I'm not paying attention. Alas, Rosemead supermarket is not the forerunner among the Asian supermarkets that I visit. I have to say, that the last time I was looking for squid, they came through. Moreover, I don't visit Valley Boulevard nearly as much as I used to. But in a pinch or on a whim, I will stop in here from time to time to see what's going on. The front end staff is always nice to me, and my limited Mandarin or Vietnamese seems to garner equal parts admiration and amusement. If nothing else, this place is worth a look if you happen to be in the neighborhood, or maybe if you're just needing to walk off a big meal at Pho Pasteur. read more

Wow worst customer service ever. Came to look for some rose water and rose buds. I couldnt find rose water anywhere and asked an employee that was restocking a shelf if they had any. He looked at me and literally turned away and ignored me. How incredibly rude. I later asked a cashier in the beverage/ liquor area if he knew if they sold rose water, he looks at me with an annoyed look and just shakes his head. He then just looks away and ignores me as well. Why are the employees here so rude?? Also, way too many people not caring about social distancing, and saw people coughing. I love coming here because they have a huge range of junk food!! From Lays from China to other goodies! Their fruits and vegetables are also very fresh. This location has a food court within their building which is very neat as one can grab their groceries and snacks/a meal while they're at it. This market changed their name so many times within general the past couple of years. I swear I could barely keep with with the names since they frequently changing it! Looks like the new management t did some remodeling and some changes to the market. It does looks nice, it's Convenient to buy Chinese groceries if you are in the area or live close by it and do not want drive down to San Gabriel Supermarket or Hawaii supermarket. Parking you might not be so lucky if you go after work, because everyone seems to go around that time. It's best to go in the morning or mid afternoon if possible. I would give zero stars if I could. I was fine with this place until my experience with customer service today. I went to the instant-noodle aisle to look for my favorite Mama Tom Yum, and I noticed a staff sorting items at this aisle gave me a weird look. I picked up a box to see how many packages were inside it as I was looking for a larger size, which is more convenient for me. After seeing that the box contained the regular-sized package, I put it back exactly where it was before. The staff from earlier dropped whatever he was doing, walk over, and gave the box that I picked up a loud kick for no reason, possibly damaging some of the packages inside. He then gave me another angry look and returned to what he was doing earlier. I didn't bother asking why he had to do it. However, this was not the first bad experience I had with the staff here. A few weeks ago, my mom came to buy some fish from this place. She selected her fish, brought it to the workers to be weighted. She kept waiting and waiting while the men were talking loudly to one another, ignoring her. She then left the fish along with everything else and went to another marker for grocery. read more
