This place is blocks from my house and this is my first time here. I'm glad I stopped by. They have a nice clean setup with somewhat of an awkward entry way. I ordered their chicken with ginger sauce. Their is a section that has lunch as well as dinner portions. Their sauces include peanut and garlic sauce. I'll try those another time. Solid Thai restaurant, with excellent food. Don't let some of the comments in other reviews put you off trying this. It's not fancy or trendy as far as the interior, but there's heart here - lots of it. The food is cooked with passion, and the family that runs Green Basil is lovely. Get the Brussels sprouts appetizer for a unique approach to sprouts that is savory with a little hint of sweetness. Really delicious. I also like the house fried peanuts with lemongrass, which is another unusual appetizer. It goes great with the sprouts, by the way. My wife and I have had many Massaman curries in many Thai restaurants, and I'd put Green Basil's near the top. It's a perfect balance of heat and creaminess and prepared expertly. My absolute favorite dish is the House Special, Chef Kong's pork. Wow! Thin cut fried pork chops served with steamed vegetables and the amazing and very spicy roasted peppers sauce. Crispy, super flavorful pork and that sauce are a dish to travel out of your way here for. The portions of all the dishes here is generous, which to me reflects the spirit of the owner and chef. VEGAN ALERT: While it appears a traditional Thai restaurant, they are sensitive to vegans requirements and will make almost any dish vegan ( no fish sauce, no egg, tofu substitute, etc) when ever they can. Prices are reasonable and market appropriate for the area. Servers are very friendly and helpful with any dietary issues. Highly recommended ( even for non-vegans)!! :) we personally get the vegan roasted Brussels sprouts, the vegan drunken noodles (w tofu) and coconut rice (the best). read more

The best kept secret in RI. This place needs more love they are some of the most authentic and Asian food in the area. There's not too many restaurants that make better kaw piek but Green Basil has one of the best in the state and I can put them up against anybody. My dear Green Basil, You never disappoint, yet I made the mistake of trying another place because you were out of your roasted Brussels sprouts. You know that saying, " you never know what you have until it's gone" or " the grass isn't always greener on the other side" ?... Well, one, I'm glad you are still here, and two, I will never ever stray again! Your food is always on point. The Brussels sprouts is life changing- it can turn the most carnivorous beasts into a mild mannered backyard gardener. I'm not going to lie though, I tried to grow Brussels sprouts and attempt to replicate your succulent sprouts. Long story short, no sprouts. Because your food is made to order, I can customize any food item on your menu and it would be executed wonderfully. Truth be told, I want to give this place 3 1/2 stars. But, since that's not an option, I listed the pro & cons which helped me choose my rating. Pros: - Very tasty food overall; fresh & nice variety on menu for adult palates - Decent prices - Friendly staff - Nice decor - Free wi-fi (ask & they'll give you the password) Cons: - Their "very spicy" is hardly spicy at all - Super slow service - Funky smell when you walk in; seriously almost walked out - No kids menu. They did tell us they had chicken fingers, but it's not on their menu & they only tell you about it if you ask - Nothing really stands out that would separate them from other Thai places Because the food was tasty, I'll likely try it again. One of the worst Thai food I ever tried!! Definitely not authentic and I been in Thailand and I also tried a lot of American Thai restaurant and that was definitely a bad experience. And they're also very cheap I think someone needs to tell them what it means fried rice with chicken means you have to put chicken and chicken it a cheap ingredients so how cheap can they be . Craving for Thai Food so we chose to come here. The interior of the restaurant is nice with very natural colors. The staff are very friendly and polite. But I was a bit disappointed with the food. Specifically the Tom Kha Gai and Chicken Salad (Larb Gai). The Tom Kha Gai was very creamy and sweet however it lacked the taste of lime and ginger which normally gives Tom Kha Gai a little bit of a kick. The kick that I was looking for. The Chicken Salad (Larb Gai) is one of my favourite dishes but it was also lacking spice and lime. However the green curry was just the right amount of kick and freshness that Thai food normally has. I have only tried a few food items from them but what I have had is very tasty, full of flavor and delicious. My favorite dish by far would have to be the drunken noodles. Their prices are pretty decent and their staff is friendly and accommodating. I've tried their chicken wings also and I was bummed that I didnt receive more for what I paid because they were crispy and yummy. I ordered the Drunken Noodles with chicken. The finely ground chicken (rather than sliced chicken) gave the dish a very unpleasant mouth feel. The small chop caused to chicken to also be dry-not much different than a mouthful of finely chopped peanuts. read more

I've driven by so many times and said I should go there. Finally made it in and will definitely be back. Everything was fantastic - I mean service, food, prices - everything! My friend and I had the sampler appetizer. It was perfect for 2 people. There was 2 or 4 of everything so no debates over who gets the last or trying to cut something in half. Then we split the panang curry with duck and drunken noodles. No additional fees for splitting (never understand why some restaurants do that) and both were amazing. Plus the server was really nice. Her name might have been Lattana (that's what's on my receipt). In the end, each of us paid about $32 before tip and that includes 2 glasses of wine. I have a new go-to Thai spot. read more

If you have never been, Green Basil is a pretty little restaurant. It was obviously made over from something else. Wood floors, new tables and chairs, it's nice. There is a small bar, which is usually full. There are usually a few diners in the restaurant, and they do a healthy take out and delivery. The menu is big, with many choices and specials. I like pad see ew. They put cabbage in theirs. They put cabbage in pad Thai and pad woonsen too. Noticing a trend! I hate cooked cabbage so I have to ask them to leave it out. I think the dishes are really nice. They are the first restaurant I have had pad woonsen at. It is a noodle dish with mung bean noodles. You would think that they would fall apart in a stir fry. It works! I also like the grilled pork chops, which are in a delicious marinade served over steamed veggies. I have requested they also offer grilled chicken. It has not happened yet. I also like kow piek, thick, rich chicken soup with thick hand cut noodles, cilantro, and lots of garlic. The last thing I will mention, is they serve coconut rice, which I like a lot. read more

3 to 3.5 stars My family doesn't really like to stray from their rotation of go-to restaurants, but after eating at Apsara (http://www.yelp.com/biz/apsara-palace-providence) too many times to count, they were more than happy to try a new place. When I visited them in Rhode Island a couple of weekends ago, I led them to Green Basil. To be honest, Thai Orchid (http://www.yelp.com/biz/thai-orchid-cranston) was my top choice, but they were closed on Sunday. Luckily, Green Basil did a pretty good job of satisfying my parents and picky sister. Green Basil definitely leans towards Americanized Thai, but I actually really enjoy the Americanized version sometimes (oops). The Pad Thai was a bit too sour, but was cooked well; the Fiery Pad Thai was even better with the vinegar notes being much more muted and the vegetables being crunchier. The Pad See Ew was very, very delicious and comparable to the flavor of the Pad See Ew at Wondee Siam in NYC. The sauteed vegetables in oyster sauce was a solid choice and made my dad eat with great contentment. Likelihood of another visit: The restaurant itself is very well-kept and the owner will even drop by to say hello. It's on a stretch of Mineral Spring that is primarily residential, so it's a great choice for those in the area. Solid choice. read more

I ordered the crispy squid and the tom yum soup to be delivered to my office for lunch. I was expecting a fried calamari type but the squid was actually cut lengthwise. The flavor was really good and I especially liked the way the onions and bell peppers were not over cooked so they still had a little crunch to them. I was very happy when I saw that the old NP Sicilia's was being turned into a thai restaurant. I wish Green Basil got a little more recognition so that it could stick around because we have so few restaurants in the area that cater to tastebuds that want something other than Italian food all the time. The food is very good. I enjoy the meals I get here more than the other local thai places in North Providence/Smithfield. The prices are competitive and the portions I have received have always been enough for me (meaning I have some leftovers). I tend to stick to their chicken dishes because they are my fave. The massaman curry is good, I usually ask them to make it spicy as they tend to tame it down for blander pallets. They make a very good chicken satay and tofu triangles. I am obsessed with their peanut sauce. I love a good peanut sauce and theirs has the perfect flavor. I feel the restaurant is very empty. The walls are very bare and there isn't much to look at or to absorb sound (here is a distinct echo when seated in certain parts of the restaurant). The staff is friendly, though they can be a bit disorganized. But in terms of food I really do enjoy my meals when I eat here and I have never had an issue with cleanliness or service. read more

Pretty Good Just Stale Atmosphere This restaurant has has several different themes in the past 5 years. They may have something here now. Tried this place out last week and it was pretty good. The restaurant has a fresh look inside but is a bit quiet and dry. Ordered the Brussel Sprouts app, the Green Basil Special and the Drunken Noodles. All items were very well prepared. Very fresh light food that won't give that greasy stomach feeling. The service is a bit slow and like a said before a bit stale. The food was fresh and delicious. We started with Thai Soft Spring Rolls (Nim Chow is the Cambodian equivalent. The difference is they use basil instead of mint), then had Lion City Noodles. My niece had Pad Thai, which she loved. Although the Spring Rolls were good, I'll try something else next time I go. They were good, but not Nim Chow. When the main dishes arrived, they were hot and smelled as good as they tasted. We loved it. My only complaint was that the waitress could have been a bit more attentive. She was good with questions and seemed to know the menu very well, she just wasn't around much. For some people that might be a good thing, but I like to have the waitress come back at least half way through the meal. All in all, give this place a shot. read more

Just went to dinner here. Atmosphere ok but no background noise...you have to whisper or everyone in the room can clearly hear your conversation. I ordered a ginger ale and the waitress brought the can to the table...I don't usually order soda but isn't that what the waitress is for?We ordered the edamame as an app but they were either really old or freezer burned we ate very few and explained to the waitress that we didn't like them at all. Then the mussels which were a good size and good amount for the price but pretty much bland on the taste. Next the was the shrimp lo men which was decent on taste and a good amount of shrimp which were cooked just right. I've only had takeout from here and both times it met expectations - the place is cute and located right on Mineral Spring Ave. I've noticed that Thai style crab Rangoon tend to be the little pyramid shaped purse was opposed to the triangles. I'm a triangle girl myself, although these were not they were still very yummy and clearly homemade. The pad Thai was very tasty, I did order it slightly spicy once and not the other and so glad I had Sriracha at the house to make up for the second time. My husband loves the chicken Massaman curry and I tried a bit and it was pretty darn good. I can't wait to try the Volcano duck next time. The iced Thai tea is good too! read more

Full disclosure, I only ordered take out from this lovely establishment so I cannot speak to the ambiance or vibe of the restaurant. The masaman curry was very flavorful, the sauce is the best part, therefore it would have been a 10/10 food experience if there was more of it. The same goes for the chicken pad thai, great flavor but the noods could have been just a smidge more saucy, as they were stickin' together like college girls leavin a frat party.
