My absolute favorite. I grew up in Detroit and every time I visit home I have to make a stop. The variety is amazing and since they're small, you can really go for it when it comes to ordering. Wow. Just wow. We did have to wait quite a while for a table on sunday night but definitely worth the wait. Our server was prompt and brought our drinks quickly, and after we ordered, a food runner started bringing things out as soon as they were ready. We first received the kale salad, mac and cheese and clam chowder. The chowder was delicious! Kale salad was great too. Mac and cheese was perfectly creamy but it didnt have much flavor. Once we added some salt, it helped a lot. The sliders came out shortly after and everything was just wonderful. Surprisingly my favorite was the tofu bahn mi. I've been to hundreds of restaurants and this is only the third negative review I've ever written. I would give this place zero stars if I could. I came here with a party of 7 and they told me they could accommodate us if we waited 25 minutes and then after waiting 25 minutes they then told us they couldn't accommodate 7 people but we could sit separately if we wanted to. The bartender in the meantime while we were waiting was one of the rudest bartenders I've ever met. I thought being a bartender typically required you to have social skills? A group of 8 of us went to Green Dot Stables to celebrate my nephew's birthday. We did have to wait about 40 minutes for at a table at about 3:45 on a Saturday, but it was worth it. Pretty much everything they serve is a tasting size; the burgers are all sliders, and the sides also come in small containers. The fun of this place is in choosing a variety of different things to try, and at $2-$4, it's affordable. I ordered the cuban, catfish and cheeseburger sliders and a kale salad. All of the burgers were really good. The catfish was very particularly crunchy. I really enjoyed the kale salad as well -- one of the best I've ever had! Everyone enjoyed their choices as well; I don't think anybody had anything left over. The only thing that was sub-par to me was the iced tea; it didn't taste very fresh (it may have been a mix or pre-made) and it needed the lemon & sweetener to make it palatable. Be prepared for a long wait. Fortunately, they have a heated waiting area out back, and if you are so inclined, you can order a drink at the bar and take them into the waiting area. They are made for you to get 3 or more (depending on how hungry you are). Sometimes I can scarf down 5 or 6 sliders. Some of my favorites are the PBJ, Hot Brown, and Coney Dog sliders. But there is a variety for any palate. There are also multiple different types of fries you can get with your order (I recommend the truffle and herb) and salads and soups as well. Absolute terrible and mediocre service. Seated immediately, greeted kindly. However that's when good service ended. Drinks and fries came out and we were told the sliders would be following shortly. Can you say sliders? Green Dot Stables has a couple dozen different kind. My absolute favorites are the fried bologna (yum!), coney dog, catfish, corned beef and philly steak and cheese ones. There is a mystery meat one that is updated daily. So be sure to ask your server what's on the menu for the day when you go. They are sized for a couple of bites and priced accordingly. Whenever I go, I just keep ordering more and more. Although sliders are the main feature here, we cannot forget about the fries -- truffle and herb, cajun or poutine being my go to choices. They also have soups and salads but I can't tell you how they are because I can never get that far on the menu. And there's mac and cheese which my friends all rave about. As if the food wasn't enough to make you venture on down to the GDS, the $3 cocktails and $3 bottles of beer and glasses of house wine are sure to draw you in. The best drink I've had in the city in a long time is the Caramel Apple craft cocktail made with caramel whiskey, apple cider, and cinnamon. And just like the sliders, there is a daily mystery cocktail to surprise you as well. The service isn't half bad either. It's fast, friendly and accurate which is everything I could wish for. GDS was one of the first places I visited Detroit but it kind of fell off my radar for a bit but it's back on! I have been a few times recently and had great experiences. Perfect if you just want something good and casual that won't break the bank. There's no way you could replicate the variety of food at these prices at home. I usually get the cheeseburger, the poutine fries and two other sliders, maybe the "Mystery Meat" and the Cuban or the chicken. I usually go by myself and sit at the bar and have no issues but I tend to go at random times, so your mileage may vary. Free attached parking lot and full bar. Five stars. read more
