Ahhh. Green dot. We had plans to go somewhere else but true to COVID, the hours posted weren't accurate and they were closed. So he suggested one of our favorite spots. I remember my first time at green dot. I was not sure what the fuss was about. Now this has become one of those places we can come to under any circumstances. Sit at the bar, sit out back, or inside. They specialize in different types of sliders. They have quite a variety and they change it up quite a bit. They also have a mystery meat option. He ordered the butter chicken, original fried chicken, and hot chicken sandwich. I ordered a cheeseburger and the chicken Caesar. We split some truffle fries. He was not a fan of the butter chicken version but enjoyed the other two. I would have eaten two of the chicken Caesar sliders had I known it was going to be so delicious! They have so many different options for unique sliders such as a PBJ (add bacon), Cuban, Fried Bologna (add provolone)...so many! They have a mystery meat that's different all the time (I can't remember if it's daily or weekly). Yesterday it was duck. I had never tried duck and it was pretty good! In the past they've had Pheasant, Alligator, and Bison just to name a few. They also have a mystery dessert but last night they were sadly out! Also...I HIGHLY recommend the truffle fries and Mac and Cheese! SO GOOD! As far as seating goes...they get very busy so they won't seat you unless your entire party is there. Green Dot Stables is a neat little restaurant located on the outskirts of Detroit. There's usually a wait if you arrive around dinner time, so I'd recommend showing up at off times (1pm or so right after lunch or 5pm before dinner) to really get the best experience. They have seating both at tables and at the bar inside, with a dedicated parking lot and an abundance of street parking nearby. Note,they won't seat you without the full party, so be prepared for that. Upon arriving, you'll be greeted by friendly wait staff, and be asked if you've ever been here before. If you answer no, they'll explain to you that most people get sliders, and that most people choose to get 3-5 sliders. (At a few dollars a piece,this can get to be a $$ meal, especially with a drink) Green Dot has a good selection of drinks and beers, too! Carb conscious/ Keto folks: Don't think that you won't be able to get enough food here! It's true that many of the sliders tend to be on the carby side, but the staff is very willing to do sliders with no bun (without qualms). My favorites to get are the cheeseburger, Hot Brown, and Buffalo Chicken (don't worry, it's grilled, not breaded). So...I've been wanting to try Green Dot Stables for some years now, and I am excited that I was finally able to dine at the restaurant a few weeks ago (before the closure of dining inside restaurants). I've always looked at the menu to envision what sliders I would be interested in trying, my co-worker always suggested the Korean Slider and Venison Chili Cheese Fries, in which one day, if I'm brave enough, I will try. However, seeming I like the same type of simple foods, I stuck with ordering the regular Cheeseburger Slider and the Fried Chicken Slider, with an order of Fries for my first time. My friend also had pumped me up for this GDS experience, as he had been to the restaurant before and had great reviews to share! He ordered the Fish Fry and the Fried Chicken Slides! I really enjoyed the sliders and the fries! And we both had the Green Dot Wallbanger, which was good! What?? Yes! Since I was on a work trip I asked the waitress to keep our alcohol bill separate. She said there was no way to do that. What?? Oookaaay. We went to get our drinks at the bar. We ordered two $3 beers and the bill was $8.92. I looked at the menu, $3 each. Oookaaay. I didn't bother to have them fix it. Next we ordered just about every French fry option and a bunch of sliders. We asked for ranch dressing with the fries, they don't carry any. Truffle and herb fries were great. The truffle oil was definitely evident. Cajun fries were decent, the poutine was cold. For sliders I had the Korean that had kimchi and peanut butter. What a fun concept! I love the idea of small plates, but can't stand spending $8-$10 each on three to four menu items. Lucky for me, GDS exists! I got here at 5:30 and we were seated right away, which is great because the last couple times I came later there was quite a wait and we didn't stay (they don't take reservations). Once you get seated though, service is quick. The sliders here are mostly $3 a piece and high quality. I had the bbq bacon and catfish with Cajun fries. I was hesitant to order the catfish because I only like it if it's cooked "right." Well, it was cooked right- crispy and the right amount of batter. The drinks are reasonably priced too. I've tried a couple of the $3 sliders: Philly Cheesesteak (ribeye, peppers & onions, squeeze cheese), BBQ Bacon (beef patty, sweet potato, house made BBQ sauce), Mystery Meat (beef tongue), and the Lansing Hot Chicken (crispy filet, buffalo sauce, pickles, mayo). Most were pretty good, but the Lansing Hot Chicken was my favorite. The fries are awesome as well! I've tried the truffle & herb, and the le poutine, and the thing I love most about them is that they are cut very thin - so crispy and delicious. I haven't tried the desserts yet, but just know that all the options are served as sliders. Lastly, the drinks! It was shocking for me to see how cheap these were! $3-4?!?! I'm sold!! I usually come here to order and share with friends, but I can see two sliders and fry being enough for a single meal, which can be less than $10. I was told to sit at the bar, which was pretty crowded (yet there were plenty of open small tables). When I opted for table service, I was huffed at. My server made me feel rushed through the meal, and when I told him I'd order 2 sliders for starters, he told me the kitchen is way backed up and I needed to order the rest of my order then. We ended up getting one of the last ones right near the heater which was a-ok with me since I was freezing! Our waitress was sweet and very accomodating. She let us know what to expect since it was our first time there. She suggested 2-3 sliders per person since most of the menu is sliders with some sides. Although she did suggest that, we ended up just having a couple sliders and poutine and a side of kale salad with of course a cider. The sliders were about $3 each which was super cheap. It's located in the middle of nowhere in Mexicantown/Corktown with its own private lot and plenty of street parking. By the time we chugged away on our beverages, our table was ready. We ordered various sliders. For myself I ordered the following sliders: Korean kimchi, fried chicken, fried catfish, and the mystery meat of the day (that evening's meat was elk)... as well as a cup of clam chowder and truffle fries. All of the food was super tasty! Loved the variety of tastes and flavors (not to mention fusion of cultures!) of the sliders. My favorite sliders were the fried chicken, which reminded me of chicken and waffles, and the fried catfish, reminded me of a more delicious version of a filet o fish sandwich. The chowder was pretty interesting in that they put sriracha on top, which was a little bit different (but still good) from the Tabasco I usually add to spice my chowder up. Whether you are in the mood to eat or drink or both, this place is where you should take your out-of-town guests who like to be "in the know" and who don't mind traveling just a bit off the beaten path for great bar food. Though this place would appear to be a bit of a dive bar, the service has always been casual yet attentive, and the food is SUPERB. They keep it simple here - burgers, fries, and salads - but what they do, they do well. The Mystery Meat selection is always a sure bet, their venison chilli cheese fries are the BEST I've ever had, (and I've tried them all), the manhattan clam chowder is better than my Mom's, (shhh, don't tell), and the catfish and buffalo chicken sliders are a MUST try, as simple as they sound. Their ingredients are always fresh, seasonal, and local (when possible), and the food comes out fast. Lastly, their BEER SELECTION is top-notch with lots of Michigan selections on tap, and you can take a 6-pack home with you. On a side note, their bar chairs are my absolute favorite in metro-Detroit. I think my expectations may have lead me to be a little let down on my first visit but they still deserve 4 stars regardless of my own over-anticipation. The menu is creative and fairly bold. The service was a little meh at first but I think it's more in line with a very chill staff demeanor overall. We started with some Ghettoblaster longnecks - the craft options are many and all solid choices. Next onto an order of the Malt fries and the first seven sliders (mini-burgers) on the menu....the Corned Beef, the Cuban, the Cheeseburger, the Lamb, BBQ Bacon, the BCT (bacon cucumber and tomato jam), and the Korean. The Cuban was really great (luscious and meaty with a healthy dose of melty Jack), followed by the Corned Beef (off the hook whole grain mustard aioli), the Cheeseburger (solid plain Jane option) and the Korean (with the peanut sauce and Kimchi) - these were my favorites in that order...thus far anyways. I plan on ordering the rest of their mini-burger options when I get back there. The Lamb was a little weak needing a heavier smear of hummus, the BBQ Bacon was tasty and the BCT not really my thing but I'm sure you'll dig it. The fries are the thin type shoestrings that are pretty addictive on their own. Add to that the flavor variations and you're good to go. I should've ordered all the fry choices but we only tried the Malt - they were good albeit a bit cold upon arrival. Every week is a different "mystery meat", which they claim is never again repeated. I always recommend trying it. There is a location in Lansing that I was hoping to try, however they were closed at the time due to some flooding so I was excited when my friend suggested this place when I was visiting her in Detroit. We arrived on a Friday evening so it was not surprising that we had to wait for a table. However, they have drinks available and a heated outdoor area to wait on. We were seated within 30 mins which was just enough time for us to have our drinks and catch up a little. The dining area is not very big, so it was a little crowded but still manageable. I was initially skeptical that these little $2-$3 items would be substantial as a meal, but they definitely were. We got the Cajun and Truffle Oil fries, Mac and Cheese, Green Goddess Salad to share and I personally got the Cheeseburger and Grilled Cheese sliders. In town visiting family for a couple of weeks so I finally took the time to check out Green Dot Stables. It had been recommended to me by a friend a year or 2 ago, I bookmarked it, but never got around to getting here... until now. Seeing it has 1,500+ reviews with an average rating of 4 solid stars must say SOMETHING about this place. So does it need another 5-star review? Of course it does! Atmosphere/Appearance: Kind of off the beaten path is this oasis of a restaurant. As you drive toward downtown Detroit you sort of steer away from the big buildings with bright lights and toward the more dimly lit streets and warehouses. Wondering where you're going you'll come upon this place on the corner, brightly lit up well... because it's Detroit. Lol. A gravel paved private parking lot welcomes you, which is always a plus so you don't have to worry about pesky street parking. Once inside you're greeted by a very vintage setting. Dim yellow lights hang from above while lots of brown wood fill the floors, walls, chairs and tables. I sat at the bar since I was alone and the tables in the dining area seemed to be full. Service: There were 2 guys at the bar taking care of me. I remember Evan's name, but not the other one. They were both awesome. So friendly, informative, helpful and made sure I had everything that I needed. They even made some great recommendations for me being a first-timer. Food: So I came hungry. I was able to try 5 of their Sliders (what they're known for) and 2 sides. Starting with the sides, I went with their roasted sweet potato salad. It's a cold concoction of sweet potato chunks, drunken cranberries, pepitas and Colman's Mustard Vinaigrette. It was very delicious. Fresh, flavorful and much lighter than I imagined sweet potatoes to be. My 2nd side was their kale salad. A simple kale salad with quinoa, lemon and shallots. It was cool. I have no idea what I was thinking or expecting ordering kale, but I just knew I needed to eat SOMETHING healthy so that I could feel better/offset the rest of the stuff I was getting ready to eat. It was decent, tasted like kale... with lemon. Lol. So, my favorite of the slidersI had was the classic... Cheeseburger of course. Meat, cheese, onions and pickles between 2 slices of bread. Absolutely delicious. I asked what the most popular slider they served was and this was it. I can see why. Next favorite was the Gyro. Savory gyro lamb meat, juicy tomato and mint Tzatziki sauce are the stars of this slider. It was fantastic and reminded me of the good ol' gyros served at the Coney Islands Detroit is known for. #3 was their "Mystery Meat" special which they change up every week. This week's was spiced lamb, pico de gallo and house creme. Pretty good, not bad, but certainly seemed experimental. #4 was the Philly Cheesesteak. It was DELICIOUS, but OH SO MESSY. Seared rib-eye, grilled peppers, onions and squeeze cheese. Lol, I didn't feel good eating this one, but it tasted freaking fantastic. Last but not least was their Almond Duck Tender Slider. In between the buns are Maple Leaf Farms orange glaze, chow mein, scallion and of course, the duck. I got the vibe that this one was Asian themed, but it was my least favorite (hence why I named it last) and it just tasted all over the place. The duck didn't taste like any duck I've ever had and it was just okay. Not nasty or anything, just... not what I expected. Collectively the the food I had was delicious and I'd love to try out some more of their menu. Value: CHEAP. Like, the good kind of cheap. I didn't have any drinks, but they have an entire menu of $3.00 cocktails, $3.00 drafts and $2.00 bottles. That's like, dirt cheap. The only way to get it cheaper is to go buy the case yourself. Lol. Each of my sliders were $3.00 with the exception of my cheeseburger which was only $2.00. My whole tab was $20.00 and I ATE. I feel the normal-sized person could easily come here and spend about $10.00 to leave very happy. In conclusion, this place was awesome and very worthy of it's prestigious title. I'd absolutely come back here... when I'm not super conscious of trying to stick to a specific eating regimen. Lol. Come check this place out and indulge a bit. read more

My sister and I came here recently for our lunch date. We got there right when they opened and got seated right away. There is limited indoor seating, but they also have outdoor seating as well. Although it has been awhile the food is still good, especially their truffle and herb fries and clam chowder. read more

NOM NOM NOM!! Oh wow! I feel like the last one to find out about this place! SOOO good! Hubs and I ordered different sliders so we could try everything. The poutine is REALLY good. Real poutine gravy with cheese CURDS! The only bummer was the type of fries they use...but the awesome gravy and cheese curds totally made up for them! The sliders were great! I think my fav was the fried chicken! A really nice piece of chicken, covered in panko and fried, then smothered in maple syrup! Sweet and salty! Mmm. I also had the Philly cheesesteak and the ribeye in it was soo tender and had a nice beefy taste. I also had the BBQ Bacon, the sweet potato on it was nice...gave it just a nice taste and the BBQ sauce was tangy and sweet with good quality bacon and a nice beef patty! Everything was amazing. Service was very friendly and very polite. Cannot wait to come back here!! Loved it! read more
