Ive been to this location at least twice before this visit and have always had a pleasant experience. On this particular slow Saturday, 8/31/2019 to be exact, my three friends and I waited over an hour for four meals to be served. We observed that at least three tables of comparable sizes that came in after us, and ordered after us had already received their orders. My lox benedict came out cold and I simply asked for warm Hollandaise sauce to make the food more appetizing. To "prove" that I should be satisfied with my food as it was, the manager brought a bowl of hot hollandaise sauce wherein the ingredients began to separate. Prior to bringing the hot hollandaise sauce he gave me a lesson on how hollandaise sauce should be prepared and served. Umm that's great and all, but all that I asked for was warm food. I paid to get fed, not to get a lesson on how to cook hollandaise sauce. The bowl of hollandaise sauce looked like scrambled eggs swimming in butter. Inappropriate much? And get this...he charged me for this science experiment. I felt uncomfortable during the rest of my visit as a result of this exchange and the managers performance really cast a dark cloud over what was starting out as a great day. The potatoes with peppers and onions were warm and delicious as usual, and the customer service from the other staff was lovely. Solid brunch spot that has great options for meat eaters and vegetarians/vegans. I got the multigrain porridge bowl which was outstanding! It costs $9 and is technically considered a side. It's pretty hefty for a side, but not enough to be its own dish. I sort of wish they'd throw some fresh fruit on top, make the portion of porridge a little larger, and promote it to entree status. Having just returned from a vacation that included subpar brunch items, I was excited to have a real American brunch as my first meal after landing. Friend who's a Philly local strongly recommended this place and I trusted his judgment. Trust earned. We went early Sunday morning around 10:30 and waited about 10 minutes before a table opened up. I tried the Sunday staples: chicken and waffle benny with cheesy grits. I remember being so happy biting into the juicy and tender fried chicken with the runny yolk and the perfectly fluffy waffle. According to friend, they're also known for their cheesy grits, which was good, but turned out to be a bit of a heavy side to the equally heavy main dish I ordered. Honestly I think this place is overrated and overpriced. Came here for breakfast around 9:45am today and luckily we were seated within 10 minutes but I honestly don't know why it even took that long. I got the avocado toast platter which was ok--there was barely enough avocado for both of the toast slices and I would have much preferred everything already put together. The meal was supposed to come with a side, so I got the Caesar salad which unbeknownst to me was an additional $4. They also put way too much dressing on the salad. My friend got the breakfast burrito which was big but she said it was overhyped. Although I'm just visiting Philly if I were in town again I would not come here again. LONG POST SHORT- highly do not recommend; and make sure you get your moneys worth for "fresh squeezed orange juice" Came here a couple of weeks ago with my boo and his cousins- the food is definitely not worth the price. On top of that, our server was not around after confronting her about our OJ problem. Before ordering, we asked her specifically if the "fresh squeezed orange juice" was indeed fresh squeezed ( so we could order a pitcher )and she said yes in confidence. We were giving tropicana orange juice in a pitcher. I can tell because fresh squeezed is watery in color and usually given with ice; we were served thick orange juice (you know what i mean if youve had tropicana) and obviously tasted like tropicana orange juice. We confronted her about the situation and she kept insisting that it was fresh squeeze- then walked away. I had noticed she had run to talk to a supervisor about it and he had came to say the same thing about it being fresh squeezed. Shortly after, I overheard him calling the manager and telling him that someone had 'found out about them not serving fresh squeezed orange juice' I don't mind being served tropicana; but if I ask you if its fresh squeezed or not, just say no. Besides this oj incident, their burger was dry (I am a burger fanatic and I literally only took 2 bites from this burger) and their bacon was extremely salty (although ut was crispy though so that was good i guess lol) Jalapeño Mac and Cheese was not as expected either, bland and barely and hint of jalapeños. Omelet was alright, quite watery and the salsa and guacamole was definitely store bought. Based on our service, we were not planning to tip (they got our orders wrong as well as the food quality and lying about the orange juice) and stopped checking up on us. BUT, they added a service charge of $18 - i mean are you serious? So whatever, we left with our barely eaten food on the table along with our cash to cover the bill. We did not leave any tip considering the service charge which is so stupid; and the overall service. Definitely will never be back and I dont recommend it either. read more

Visiting Philly we stopped by Green Eggs Cafe for a nice breakfast before heading back to MD. I loved their menu since they offered a variety of items since our family has various food restrictions. I got the tofu scramble which was delish. I admit though I didn't try the "meat" vegan substitute because I'm generally not a fan but the scramble itself was flavorful and delish. As a coffee lover, their coffee was good too. The service was also good. We had several different servers approach us and refill our drinks so that was nice as well. My husband got the Pecan pie French toast which he devoured and really enjoyed. This place was great and we will definitely return on our next Philly visit. Not sure why I've always had better luck with food selections here than the 13th & Spruce location - where I feel the food I've had was generally more heavy and sloppily made, despite the upgrade in interior design since the first time I was there. The South Philly location, however, was pleasant all around. I came here for Saturday brunch, but the wait was not too bad (20-30mins). They have a separate coffee counter, so you can sip a warm caffeinated beverage and talk to your neighbors while waiting in line for your table. As always, the menu is pretty impressive, with many options to accommodate various diets. The specials that day were especially enticing. It was hard to choose, but I ended up going with their "Lambwich" which was tender and flavorful braised lamb shoulder inside toasted ciabatta bread, topped with arugula, shredded carrots, raisin jam, and harissa aioli sauce. It came with a side salad that could feed an entire adult, which made me really happy about the healthy vs. unhealthy ratio of this meal. We also had the steak and eggs (3 any style), which was really good and came with marinated spinach and a side of fruit. There was a five minute wait to seat the 3 of us (just after 10am). This was my first time sitting in the small area in the back, and while it was cozy, being so close to a bathroom could have been a disaster on a different day, lol. NEVER EAT HERE. The hostess and "manager" working Sunday, Feb 9, 2020 from 12:00PM-1:00PM needs to be disciplined. Both were extremely rude and ignored our party for an hour. We were never seated. Both the hostess and manager refused to provide their names because they knew they made a mistake and were being unprofessional. My party of 4 and a baby waited an hour to be seated but realized we were skipped over. Our party name was crossed out on their waitlist. No attempt was made to seat us afterwards by both the hostess and manager, so we had to leave. We waited right behind the hostess and constantly checked in to see if our name was called. The hostess claimed she called our name three times "15 mins ago," however that is impossible because I informed her the mother and baby needed to step out only 10 mins ago. We waited right behind her -- she never called our name once during the hour. She even glared at us when we repeatedly peeked over to check the waitlist. She crossed off our entire party, and we were never seated after waiting an hour. We don't mind waiting an hour but don't give customers an attitude, especially when your hostess makes a mistake and then lies about it. We were listening for our name to be called -- why would we wait for an hour just to waste everyone's time and not be seated? We will never support this franchise or restaurant ever again. Consider fixing the attitude problem with your hostess and manager, who disgracefully would not reveal their own names. Shame. read more

There was about a half hour wait for a table of 6 on a Saturday. Not too bad. I ordered the chicken and waffles hollandaise. You get half of one waffle, boneless breaded chicken breast, two poached eggs, hollandaise sauce and some hot sauce along with whatever side you want. I'm picky with brunch and honestly it's been hard finding a worthy brunch place that I will think is worth going that I would recommend since coming to this side of the world. If you all have suggestions please let me know! You have your 1) extremely expensive brunch where you're paying for the table clothes, nose up in air clientele with mimosas that are barely alcoholic for $15+ a glass and mediocre food; 2) the hipster corner breakfast places where everyone "raves" about the food and you go there and food tastes like cardboard, leaving you to question humanity and all the hipster people with their cute insta pics of the food that tastes horrid and then 3) your diners which are low key. Green eggs' food is between 1 and 2 for clientele and their food I think is worth the wait so far. I think about that creme brûlée French toast and those chicken and waffles. If you're going there, go for that. Yeah they have "healthy" options but like if you're into the feel of that without taste maybe you should find places like people in option 2 above and kindly lessen everyone else's wait here. I say go big or go home! They do those two plates THE BEST imho so far that I've tried and honestly my go to place for brunch next to Sabrina's. They're lunch menu is not that bad too!!! Parking is horrid and tight so if you can go 20 min before opening, do and/ or carpool. Or you should just uber. I've never managed to get reservations. Big parties please call them ahead; it's a cozy establishment. I went with my friends after hearing about this place for a while now. It was during the lunch rush so there was a little bit of a wait, but they had some comfortable couches with a foot rest to put your feet up. When we got seated we were served quickly by two very friendly servers. I ordered the Short-rib Benedict, which came with deliciously poached eggs over a cheddar tot pancake.
