My wife wanted to go to Green Leaf to celebrate her birthday. She had a craving for her favorite Shrimp Tempura. So, I made a reservation for an early dinner. We were warmly greeted by the staff and seated at a quiet corner table. I had my favorite - the Crispy Jumbo Shrimp with Sesame Sauce, and my wife had her favorite of Shrimp Tempura with Tempura Vegetables. The presentation of both dishes was quite appetizing, and the food was delicious! Winnie and Kevin, as always, took excellent care of us. They are always so upbeat and friendly. They surprised my wife with a birthday ice cream with a candle with fried bananas, which was a lovely way to finish a wonderful dinner.

It's almost unfair for me to write a review of this restaurant, whose food I have been enjoying for over a decade. Obviously I am not going to have bad things to say about a place which has kept me happy for so long. There must be 10 sushi restaurants up and down the York Road corridor, but Green Leaf is the best. I have never had a meal there that I didn't like and the service is great, the staff friendly. Prices are reasonable. My particular favorites are the 5th year roll, the miso soup, the Singapore Noodles (with chicken), and the vegetable tempura, but there are many many other items to choose from, including a huge variety of rolls, sashimi, and other dishes. If you want sushi -- or just plain good Asian fusion food -- in the Cockeysville / Lutherville area, this is the place to go. It's that simple.

Nice restaurant with a variety of oriental Asian food. Dining room is spacious and clean. Staff is friendly and understands English perfectly fine. Had dumplings & pad Thai. Order that if you're not sure what to eat. Oh and stop by the liquor store next door for a 6pk of beer to go.

Service was slow and the food was mediocre at best. It is however a BYOB restaurant and the corking fee is $3.

I was greeted promptly, and the host tried to seat me even though I mentioned twice that I wanted to place a to go sushi order. I was given a menu, a pencil, and a sushi order form, but the form wasn't very self-explanatory. I tried to get the host's attention to ask a few questions about quantities and how certain items were prepared, but he seemed distracted by other activity in the restaurant. While waiting, about 10 minutes, I noticed the decor was bright, the sushi chefs were neat and clean, and the preparation area looked well maintained. In the end, I took a guess on my order (California roll and lump crab meat) , and once I got home, I realized I made a solid choice. The sushi tasted very fresh (although the crab didn't taste like lump - it was still tasty) which definitely stood out and made the experience better. I ordered enough for lunch that day and still had leftovers for the next. Will I go back? I'm not sure, but I might try again on a different day and dine in.

While we waited for our food, many continuously piled in to order or pick up their food. I'd recommend calling in your order a head of time because they get pretty backed up, but the food is well worth the wait. I got the Tofu Brah bun and my mom got the chili noodles with pork and a side of rice and beans. All of the food was so flavorful and the portions were generous. The bun itself was so light and fluffy, and the tofu was crispy. They didn't skimp on the pork in the chili noodles - about half the dish was really tender pork. The rice and beans were nice and spicy too and my mom loved them! This is more of a grab and go kind of place, but there are two outdoor benches and some countertop seating inside

I liked the addition of panko breadcrumbs for crunch, but I wish the imitation crab meat had been shredded more finely for better texture. For my entree, I ordered the Spicy Basil Crispy Duck (added $1 for Thai spicy). They definitely delivered on the spicy level, but the duck itself was not crispy. It came with rice and bell peppers and basil. The sushi tasted fresh, which was good. Service could use some improvement. We had to ask for small bowls for soy sauce, and when we requested a dessert menu to celebrate the birthday, we were told the kitchen had already closed. It would have been nice if our server had given us a heads up before the kitchen closed. The ambiance is cozy. It almost feels like dining in someone's house. They had Halloween decorations up and murals of historic Frederick painted on the walls. They also have a private parking lot, which made it convenient. Overall, food was good, but a little more attentiveness from the staff would've made the experience even better.

SU ordered Kung Pao Shrimp, her "go-to" and every Asian restaurant, and compares each one to China Garden's version. Her verdict: Modern Asia's was "OK", and she told me I could eat the leftovers for my lunch. I did. My verdict was the same: OK, but nothing to write home to Mother about. (My comparison, BTW, is to a restaurant we enjoyed in Ithaca New York that made Kung Pao with peppers that would flay your face from the inside if you dared to eat one. Modern Asia's didn't even tickle, making it a let down). I ordered Seafood Combination Chinese Yellow Curry, a new dish for me. It was yummy. Described as one-pepper spicy on the menu, it had less heat than the Kung Pao, but the curry sauce had layers of flavor. It featured shrimp, scallops, and calmari plus a wonderful mix of peppers, onions, and other veg. All were nicely (crisply) cooked, even taking into account the Door Dash delivery time. I really enjoyed it. Next time I may ask for a bit more heat, but as it is, I hoovered up every morsel. Try it - you'll like it!

I had been here once before, before moving to the area, and thought it was great then. This time? Extraordinary. I came in about an hour before closing, and anyone who eats out knows food can sometimes feel different that close to closing time. Not here. Everything tasted fresh, flavorful, and just as good as if I had walked in at peak dinner time. On top of that, I had an issue with my online order/payment. It looked like the charge was processing through my account, but they had no record of the order. Instead of making me feel like a problem, the person helping me was patient, kind, and genuinely tried to figure it out. I felt treated like a hungry customer who needed help not like someone trying to get over. The food looked good, tasted amazing, and the people were helpful, welcoming, and kind even near closing. Now for the Maryland softie, my first bite was heavenly (full of the crab-cake and remoulade), but as I kept eating it, I realized I would've just preferred it with just crab cake, not the soft shell too. Was it worth the hype? kind of. It's pricey so maybe one and done for me. Now the crab Rangoon egg roll, that was a miss for me. It is cheesy and filled with imitation crab, but too small for me at the price point. And I didn't find it super tasty personally. My sister who is also a yelp elite had a totally different take and loves it, so maybe it's subjective. I did have it 4 hours (put it in air-fryer) after I got it so maybe eating it super fresh is the difference. Space is limited so better for carryout, and the person taking my order was friendly. It'll probably take 20-30 mins for your order to come out, depending on how many people there are and pickup orders they have to complete. Overall, this place is a Maryland staple at this point and anyone who visits MD should 100% try and check out their famous fried chicken, whether as a bao sandwich or a rice bowl.

So, we arrived early on Saturday to meet friends for a 6:30 PM dinner time. This is a small restaurant with 8 tables total with seating for approximately 27. The restaurant is charming and cozy. We were lucky there was a table for 4 by the window. It was a rainy evening, and the restaurant was chilly. It is a BYOB with no corkage fee, which is very nice. Our friends arrived shortly after we did. They served us water right away, and we asked for wine glasses which they brought as well. Because I was cold, I ordered decaf hot tea. Their menu is quite extensive. My husband decided on the Grilled Salmon with the Terriyaki sauce. He was not thrilled - he did not feel the salmon was fresh. I had the Shrimp Stir Basil, which was decent size portion of stir-fried onions, bell peppers, fresh basil leaves, carrots, string beans, zucchini, and snow peas in a brown sauce served with white rice. I did ask for no spice on my dish. Our friend ordered the Wonton Soup, which looked nothing like the Wonton Soup she was used to - the dumplings were completely different looking - she did eat them, but she did not eat the broth as she did not like the flavor. I tasted it, and it was not good. She did enjoy the order of Spicy Tuna Roll she ordered - she did say it was very spicy. Her husband had the Shrimp and Vegetable Tempura, which he said was very good. I have to say the service was just okay - they certainly did not make you feel very welcome to be there - we probably will never go back.
