Quick Review- Not worth your time if you are trying to have an actual meal. Food is bad. Go for cheap drinks and to watch a game but don't expect much from the grub. In Depth Review OVERALL- Struggle to find something good to say about this restaurant. Such a shame because this spot used to be awesome. Went here with my girlfriend's family- six of us ate here on a Saturday night @7:30pm. ATMOSPHERE- Probably the best attribute about this restaurant is the atmosphere. Although it was a little loud it had the classic, pub/dive/sports bar feel. TVs for viewing spaced correctly around the established. The restrooms were disgusting. PRICE- Drink prices were quite reasonable. Specials almost everyday which makes the place a little more appealing. Seemed to be a little expensive for the quality of the food (see below "FOOD"; spoiler alert don't get excited). To charge more for each item they added a boat load of fries which doesn't justify the cost. But all in all the food was so bad no price would have been right. DRINKS- I actually liked the beer they offered. Aleworks brown ale. But that has nothing to do with the restaurant, that's credit to the folks at Aleworks. FOOD- Terrible. My daughter's boyfriend graduated from William & Mary and he picked out his favorite places to eat, and this is one of them. It was $8 burger night. It appears like your typical college bar\restaurant. The beer selection is awesome. If you want a great selection of craft beer, this is your place. No single person was assigned to our table. I grew up in Williamsburg, so I realize the significance of this place (being the only halfway decent bar in Williamsburg). That being said, I feel justified in giving it a proper review. This place sucks. Sorry. It smells funny. I can't really place it, but it sort of smells like cheese and puke, combined. Don't eat the food here. I'm pretty sure that the cooks are all stoned out of their mind, which normally is no big deal, but I've heard some pretty awful stories of the level of cleanliness in that place. Last but not least, the beer. Alright, it's a decent beer list. But having lived places outside of Williamsburg, that's an average beer list. Sure it may be great compared to Paul's deli, but what exactly does that say? Everyone raves about the great beer selection here and I can't figure out why. Went here on a whim for the first time after a long weekend. Ordered 4 drinks total. Two of them being bourbon on the rocks. Got the check and was charged for two doubles because they were " on the rocks". When I asked for a receipt, I was told there would be two charges on my card till they cleared or I could not see my receipt. Classic scam, and I don't appreciate it. Been in the restaurant business for 30 years. This type of behavior is indicative of a take advantage of the customer attitude. If you are going to charge me for a double, let me know before. You can ignore the one-star reviews. This isn't that kind of place. Nor is it five-star worthy if you've spent any time in a city with more more than three bars that aren't part of a Ruby Tuesday's. The name Green Leafe Cafe conjure up images of a vegan coffee house, but it is actually an incredible beer bar! The beer selection is vast, especially on tap. I appreciated that the menu lists where each beer is brewed. Being an out-of-towner, I made sure to try several VA beers. I favor wheat beers and was very impressed at their large amount from which to choose. My hamburger was fantastic - one of the most succulent I have had. It was gigantic, but I couldn't resist eating it all. The potato salad is also a worthy side item. Finally, the atmosphere is perfect. It had the ideal tavern feel with wood everywhere (walls, floors, tables, bar), and I enjoyed the numerous beer taps hung above the bar. Best of all was the bartender. We had a very natural, interesting conversation as I leisurely ate my lunch and sampled some brews. If I lived in Williamsburg, this would certainly be my local haunt. read more

The Green Leafe is your typical college bar - casual and welcoming and (like any neighborhood bar) if you go there often enough, the bartenders all know your name. I typically avoided this location on the weekends, as it was overrun with undergrads, but during the week I loved it! Located next to Paul's Deli and across from the W&M stadium, the Leafe (as it's affectionately called) is a prime location for students (undergrad and grad) and locals. It's one of three main "bars" in the 'burg, also known as the delis, and is often packed on the weekends. During the week can be hit or miss, and personally I always liked that I never knew whether or not there was going to be a crowd on a Tuesday. Quite frankly, I enjoyed it even when my friends and I were the only patrons. I've eaten veggie burgers and salads at the Leafe, but it wouldn't be my pick for a meal. This is much better as a drinking spot. If you want to feel like you're holed away in a cozy local bar, then stop by the Green Leafe for a mug and a jello shot. read more

What a great pub! Don't be misled when you walk in. It may look like nothing special but the food is excellent and portions are large. Great amount of beers on tap and reasonable prices. Just your average decent bar: came here with a group so didn't get a chance to check out the bar but did order a drink and the beer on tap is pretty good, nothing to complain about. We managed to get seating for eight of us in the back in the evening hours and got pretty fast service. I mean we got our time to decide what we wanted and the food came in about 30 minutes for eight of us. Waitress was nice enough. Ordered a burger with cheese, extra toppings like jalapenos and onions. I thought the burger was good, just like what a bar burger should be like. We were looking for a late night dinner (10:30 pm) after being at the theme park all day. We chose Green Leafe because it had good reviews and was close to the theme park. We were dissappointed to learn they stopped serving most of the menu at 10pm, and only had appetizers and "loaded fries". We decided to stay since we were hungry and tired. Let me be clear, this is NOT a review of the GLC in New Town. Let me start out by saying that maybe I'm biased... Biased not because after 2 years of grad school at W&M, I spent a ton of time here, but because I can unequivocally say I think this is the best bar in the world. Atmosphere is great, tables plentiful, amazing beer selection, fairly inexpensive (although they have jacked their prices up) and a good crowd. If you can get past the rotting food smell emanating the place as you walk in, the beer selection and burgers are great. A good dusting and cleaning would go a long ways for those visiting while the sun is still up. There was a shard of glass at the far end of our table, not very appetizing, and I don't need to know the story of how it got there. If you're looking for the primo spot in Williamsburg to nab a burger, cocktail, or one of over 180 different kinds of beer, the Green Leafe ("Green Leafe Downtown") is the place to do it. Nothing within walking distance of the College of William & Mary has quite the reputation the Leafe does; not Pauls, not the College Delly, and certainly not Mamma Mia's. The main draw: the weekly Sunday Mug Night, which attracts just about everyone 21+ on campus with enormous refills of brightly-colored plastic mugs for reduced prices. Stop at one and it's probably your 21st birthday. Make it two and you're either just getting started or finishing up. Three and four mugs make the hideous Williamsburg townies attractive, and number five will keep you out of class until Wednesday. The food ain't bad, either. Although a bit overpriced, the burgers are solid, and the late-night onion rings hit the spot after a local Legend Lager. Bottom line is: if you're looking for tradition, this is the place to be. When attending William and Mary, I worked as a cook at the Green Leafe. The kitchen there was a lot of fun, but there is a lot of fluctuation in how it is prepared. At the worst of times, the food is still ok (coming down to pub food levels), but at the best of times, the Leafe can produce some really great meals. The management is a savvy group and they keep good people onboard to make it a friendly and well run place. Finding it's place in the world as a purveyor of fine beers, the Green Leafe is the only place I have to stop when traveling through Southern Virginia these days. read more

Pluses: happy hour lasts from 5-9, burgers are $5 on Mondays, fried apps were tasty, and the menu is expansive. Negatives: beers were kind of pricey, so half off didn't make them THAT cheap, burgers were 'meh', and service was painfully slow. In the good company of friends and family for Graduation weekend, I was not surprised to see the college town bar showing off its craft beer selection. The food and service were good, bathrooms not good, but 44 taps isn't all that. While I could admire the vast tap selection here at the Greene Leafe, it wasn't a knockout list and it left me wondering how often the taps changed out. . The food was enjoyable and the menu was well placed to market its diverse wares to some discerning palates. The bathrooms were worse than I had seen in a while, even for a college town. We stopped in for food & football on our way home from holiday road tripping. The good - epic beer selection, the kona burger was awesome, their French fries were pretty good without catsup, and I loved the house salad. The bad - we had to hunt down our own flatware and didn't get catsup for our fries. Also the floor was sticky with this lingering smell of old beer. (ick) The ugly - they tried to pass off warmed nacho dip as a cup of chili. Luckily I was hungry, I love bean dip, and it was good bean dip. But really? Because of it's proximity to campus and like any restaurant/bar, Green Leafe's clientele ranges from students, professors, visitors and tourists depending on the time of day and if school's in session. It's a charming restaurant to stop by for lunch. For dinner, you might see some professors catching a bite. The weekends and Mug Night will be packed with students. Get there early if you and your friends want a table. Green Leafe serves food that's a step above your average bar food. The salads are actually made from real greens, not just iceberg lettuce. However, last time I went for lunch I ordered a veggie wrap and I adore cheese, but I think my veggie wrap was misnamed. It had more mozzarella cheese than vegetables. This is my most favorite bar in the whole wide world. If you park at the stadium, you don't have to deal with the worst parking lot in Virginia. Problem solved. Mug Night is the greatest thing ever, and I will confess it's the only time I come. My friends and I lived at Mug Night for a good year, and there's nothing better than taking over that big round table in the middle and getting rowdy. The food is great--order the cheese fries with bacon! It's a heart attack on a plate, but it's worth it. Plus who can beat the gigantic mugs of beer for SO CHEAP! And they have approx. one million choices (not exaggerating...ok maybe a little). The staff rocks; we used to always get this great waiter who wore pink shorts. I don't know why he left, but come back, Pink Shorts! You were awesome. My boyfriend, Joe, and I were checking out Colonial Williamburg, but we wanted to get off the main drag for dinner. He had seen this restaurant referenced by a local brewery on their website so we decided to check it out. The place looked a little run down from the outside, but there was a cool 'old world' vibe inside that you dont get back home in Pittsburgh too often. I didn't expect much from the place, but I was pleasantly surprised by the beer and menu selections. I'm a cider fan and they even had a cider on tap, which is pretty much unheard of for me. We had a few beers and the loaded sweet potato fries as an app- which were delicious. I had fish tacos which were fine, but the salsa and chips were really good and fresh. I forget what Joe had, but I do know he didn't have any complaints. The only thing lacking was the service, but it was no where near bad enough that I wouldn't consider returning if I were in the area again. Our server wasn't really knowledgeable about the beer or the food, but he was friendly none-the-less. I'd definitely recommend the place to someone visiting the Williamsburg area. read more

Green Leafe is my kind of place. It's got a great atmosphere, decent food, and a great selection of beers. The staff has always been great and it's a nice, relaxing place to hang out with friends. I wasn't thrilled with the seafood bisque, but it's definitely good for a burger and fries. Being past my college days, I tend to go to GLC earlier in the day or in the summer when it's not as crowded with college kids, but it certainly is a place I would have liked hanging out at when I was at the height of my drinking career. read more

Green Leafe Cafe...ok even the bouncer here is friendly. This place has a college atmosphere but with a cheers feel. There are regulars here, but not in a trashy sorta AA way, and with that being said I give this one of the better pubs I've been to. This place has something like 28 beers on tap, which I tried to do my best of trying as many as I could. There is one beer that even the bartender gives a warning too, the UFO, which is still "fermenting" in the keg. The Shots here are unique as their name sakes, from John Benet (you read that right) to an 8 year old boy, don't ask why their named that but simply order it for the S&G factor and shootem. Me and a buddy only got through 12 shooters before he tapped out...(they are cheap and very fruity...some of them are creepers). The food is average fair for bar food...I recommend the calamari and the fries...stay away from the tenders and the calzone....when i go back i will sample more of the menu...but really I wasn't there to eat. lol. The bar keeps here are cool. Very friendly and very much experts about the beer. If you are nice enough and ask you can even sample some...keep it cool...don't be a kiss ass. Go here on a Thurs if you want to be part of a live crowd...Fridays too. Monday 2 dollar micro-brews and half-price burgers brings me to the Green Leafe. It was the first place I went to as soon as I turned 21 (right after the ABC). The food is quite good, although a little bit expensive for my college budget. Parking is notoriously bad, but most kids walk anyway. I don't know why I'm writing a review for the Green Leafe. Every band that comes here for concerts or Fridays @ 5 comes to the GreenLeafe before and/or after the show. It's in such a prominent location that everybody who visits the college knows about it. Gotta Say I am borderline 5 stars on this place! Monday Night, 1/2 price on Burgers and Craft Brews. I like it already! The burger was cooked perfectly medium without me asking. The Fries were, an interesting crispy fry with some kind of crunchy coating on them. take away for having to ask for condiments and a napkin. Add ons for friendly staff willing to chat and recommend a beer. take away for the four members of the staff that were too busy talking to each other to pay attention to their patrons. Came in on a Sunday and it wasn't very busy. Seated right away and was served our drinks. A few craft beer choices which is nice. Plenty of TVs to catch one of the 3 NFL games playing. Very clean and the food was liked by all. I had their Mac n Cheese and it is a huge portion. It could have fed 3 people but I'm not complaining. My only complaint is that it was quite warm in the restaurant. It was warmer inside than outside. I believe it was 85* outside that day. Turn on the AC. I will likely be back though. read more
