I love this greenbay. It's the only place in the area where I can find the food my V sensitive stomach can handle. They have a beautiful tea selection, raw cheese in their cheese collection, multiple pasture-raised egg options, the oat milk without canola oil and fillers, frozen wild blueberries, they even sell Hu baking chocolate! I get that people are upset with the prices but in this economy eating responsibly and healthily is expensive. Anyway, I'm a fan. Cashiers could prob be a little more "present", but I'm not bugging. Great location. Easily accessible by the N/W. Some things might be a little pricey but welcome to the deep the pockets of NYC. I really like this market. It's walking distance from my place and they have a lot of diet specific/specialty foods that you certainly won't be able to find anywhere else in Astoria. I really like the homemade pasta salads that they have up front, along with the prepared wraps and sandwiches. They have a really good selection so it's perfect to pop in for a quick lunch or dinner. They also have an AMAZING cheese selection and fresh fish selection in the back left of the store. The prices are a little more than what you would expect at a market in this neighborhood but you're definitely getting good, fresh, quality items at this location. Highly recommend! read more

I've being coming here for over 4 years and there have been times where I've seen expired food on the shelves, mostly bread, rotten produce, etc. Lately these problems have gotten worse and the worst part of all is the prices. The organic strawberries are $14.99 and organic apples $4.99 per lb. They sell the same organic stuff down the street at Broadway Natural for half the price. Since Whole Foods or TJ's is, inexplicably not anywhere nearby, places like GB market thrive in Astoria. The prices on similar products that you'd find in those places can be about the same-if you can comparison shop the price difference on the stuff that is different is significant. Other than that, it's great a great selection of fresh produce and since it's expansion a huge selection of different products-and an expanded sushi and smoothie department, respectively. The back left corner is still unfinished, not sure if it's going to be a bakery or a meat section. I absolutely would love to hate Greenbay Marketplace (GM) because they are obnoxiously overpriced for the neighborhood they serve. Not only do I not hate GM, I'm a frequent customer. Virtually everything they sell--organic or otherwise--may be found and bought for less at stores situated within about five or so blocks from GM. But in my humble opinion there's isn't another store that offers all that GM offers in one location. So if like me you enjoy Periere's bubbles be prepared to shell out on average 20% more at GM ($2.40 v. $1.99). So why pray-tell do I keep subjecting myself to heftier price-points you may ask? Here's the dictionary definition of my madness: Con·ven·ience (knvēnyns) noun 1. the state of being able to proceed with something with little effort or difficulty. So there you have it folks: Convenience. Convenience makes "El Cheapo" (as I've been recently Christened by a reader of my Flo Cafe review) do things that he otherwise wouldn't do; like pay a hefty premium for goods. GM has lots of very good and premium organic stuff all under one roof. So much so that I would do a wholesale disservice to GM if I attempted to put together a partial list. But instead here are the typical listings found on my 'honey-do list': truffle pecorino cheese, USDA prime steaks, organic toothpaste and smoothies. You simply can't get all this stuff in any other market. Moreover, their primo-location's rent can't be cheap. Absolutely forget this place. Not only does my 2015 review still stand, but they have become expensive beyond even organic reason. I stopped by today to grab some coffee and milk. Those TWO items totaled out to nearly $19. Are you absolutely kidding me? The Lavaza coffee is about $6-7 higher than literally anywhere else, the milk was about average at $5.99 for a half gallon of organic milk (buy at rite aid with your rite aid card and it's like $4.50), and I was going to grab a case of La Croix, but at $8 for a 6 pack, while everywhere else charges about $5 for a 12 pack, I decided hell no. I'm done with Greenbay. The produce there is really no better than at the other local supermarkets. Decent place with decent overpriced food. The staff sort of doesn't care about anything, which can be good or bad. One time a couple of idiots came in without masks. Another customer asked them to put on a mask and the idiots started cussing the guy out, calling him a homo over and over, saying the prices of Astoria are skyrocketing because of homosexuals. Never at any point did the staff seem to give a shit, ask the two idiots to put in their masks, or refuse service to them for not wearing a mask and verbally accosting the guy. Greenbay is my go-to for all organic or otherwise hard to find healthy groceries. I have never gone in here looking for something (i.e. sugar-free bacon, grain-free granola, etc.) and not found something great. I'm in here at least two times a week stocking up on all things healthy and organic. The fact that it's open 24-hours is also a huge plus! Prices are high but so is quality, plus they have things you can't find at other grocery stores so either you're willing to pay their price or you walk away empty handed. read more

I never thought I would review a grocery store.... really. I feel the need to review Green Bay because it is sooo unique and brings the right charm to Astoria. Astoria hasn't always been known to be the hipest place but things have been changing drastically. Sure we don't have Whole Foods or traders joes but this is the closest thing. I love that the food is FRESH and there are locals by broadway and 30 ave. Honestly I could eat every meal at Green Bay and be perfectly happy. Important to mention.... this grocery store is open 24 hours!! So yes you could come home drunk from the bar on Saturday and have a fresh meal. To me that is just unreal. What I also adore is their buffet ... when I am too lazy to cook and I want to be healthy I go to their buffet and get fresh food. One thing I would change is Green Bay having a section to sit down and eat... this would be helpful so I don't always have to go home when I come just for the buffet. Okay so I see the downsides and why some people don't like Green Bay. Same reason why most people prefer the normal grocery store to Trader Joe's. If you want a normal grocery store that is not over priced this is not the place for you. I will be the first to admit I do not come to Green Bay for everything ... if I did I would end up poor... but if you want fresh healthy eating there is no better place to go (just make sure your wallet is prepared). While I get that organic food is overpriced there are plenty of fresh prepared meals you can get for under $10. Clearly I am a fan of this place but when it comes to certain spices and foods I can't justify going fully organic Tips for money savors that don't want to miss out on Green Bay: they have fresh sushi that is a deal, packaged salad, frozen organic food and a convenient buffet. I have been living in Astoria for some time and Greenbay has turned into an incredible surprise for the neighborhood. First off, they have doubled in size and started offering meats, seafood and a deli section. I like to think of the place as a mini Whole Foods, just without the high ticket price. The staff is nice, but not super friendly. They seem to rush you at the register, but who can blame them. The place is busy and there is lots to do. In line with the other reviews on here: yes, the quality of the produce has very much become a 50/50 hit or miss scenario, and yes, their markups are quite high. For instance, $6.99 for a head of organic broccoli: that's a Foot-long at Subway, a pint of Guinness, or 38 dumplings at Vanessa's. And $21 for Almond Butter: my Geico renter's insurance is less than that. There was a point where I didn't mind paying a little extra for quality, as my other local groceries weren't offering the healthier, locally grown selection I thought Greenbay was. But I've limited my produce purchases here, as the last few times have resulted in rotten apples and nectarines within 24 hours. And as far as other boxed and packaged items go, you can find lower markups on those same items elsewhere. So, thanks for the quality control, Greenbay. I'll have to settle with eating my genetically modified, pesticide soaked Macintosh apples from "Bravo" because at least they taste fresh. I have been going to the Broadway location of Greenbay for many years. I like many specialty items that they have, for example, burrata, dates, pistachios, caramelized ginger, polenta, hummus and yogurts. I also enjoy the convenience of having a 24 hour grocery store a few blocks away from my apartment. Another plus is that I find the store to be less crowded than other similar stores in the vicinity. One area in which I'd like to see improvement is hygiene. A male worker at checkout often wears a mask over his mouth without also covering his nose. Given the covid pandemic, I would feel safer if all checkout clerks used their masks to cover both areas. read more

Aside from being open 24/7 and being the only organic grocery near me, I would like this place a lot more if the cashiers were NOT SO RUDE/ARROGANT and were much nicer. They don't have to be super cheerful - but just say "Thanks" or "Have a nice day" instead of not even saying "Good-bye"! Owners and managers should really train their staff to be better at customer service skills. I will say - once around the holidays, I was looking for a specific food item and the manager or owner was very nice and did try to find the item for me. This is my second review as I still wish I could boycott this place but I left something out of my last review. They sell "organic" produce that does not have any legitimate certification to indicate that the produce is really organic. They have whole rows of pre-packaged veggies and fruits that simply have a bright orange ORGANIC sticker on them, with of course the corresponding high price tag, but no legitimate certification stickers on the produce. I think this might be illegal and have looked into how to report it or at least have it investigated but to no avail. Be careful and always check for real, certified organic stickers in your produce before trusting that it is organic. This marketplace is terrible. Although they have a lot of products I would say 20% to 30% of what they sell is organic while 85% to 95% of what they promote is that they are organic. I got a fresh juice from there the other day and every single vegetable looked old, each fruit was changing colors, and then I saw the girl go grab extra spinach from the marketplace and did not care to rinse it and blended into my juice. There used to be a local grocery store around the block called C town which closed and since it's closed their prices went up even more. I got an organic tomato for $5. I would say that their pricing is 25% to 30% more than whole foods for their products. Lots of people say the same thing as they're walking in and out of the store SO EXPENSIVE! However, everyone seems to go there for the convenience. So if you need something and you need something quick then I would recommend this place but if it could wait plan a trip to any other organic or regular supermarket and save a lot of money. The great location is pretty much the one constant pro about this place. Food wise, I ever only look at the hot bar as well as their mixed/prepared fruits section. Everything else is in line with the other reviews: it's crazy expensive. Hot bar is a hit or miss. The salad/cold section is ok at times. "Hot" foods is just lukewarm. I've had great luck with their produce, and I find they stock a lot of hard-to-find specialty grocery products and I really appreciate that. But the pros end there. The seafood is completely flavorless and the group of men in the back always make me feel extremely uncomfortable when I go to ask for help on anything. I always feel like they're laughing at me for some reason... I also have to say the counter help at the deli is useless. I ordered a pound of roast beef and half a pound of swiss, had to reiterate my order three separate times for the girl handling it, and then ultimately when I got home to make myself a sandwich I realized she'd given me corned beef. The thought of having to go back there with the deli meat and explain myself was not worth the $11 I paid for it. In a pinch I'll get grocery items here, but otherwise I stick to their produce and buy everything else from Fresh Direct. read more
