I tried this place yesterday and was HIGHLY dissatisfied and wasted $40. I thought I would try this place so I tried a few different things I ordered rib tip dinner with Mac and cheese with potatoes and onions, side of potato salad or greens with hot water cornbread.. The ribs were horrible, burnt and mostly bones and grissle I hate one spit it out, the Mac and cheese wasn't even there the potato's and onions were soggy greens was overdone cornbread was cold potato salad was bland. I ordered a lamb chop but was informed that was only available on Friday so I got smothered pork chops those were good. I called and they were supposed to send the Mac it never came. For the past year I've had their food occasionally. I understand that staffing is a factor and patience is to be expected. My recent experience was not the case. On 4/12/2022 I ordered my food online at 3:00 pm. My expected pick up time was 3:22-3:32, which was acceptable. As I arrived at the restaurant I noticed the cashier was a teenager that was conversing with her friends. I was not serviced until a few minutes later. I was informed that my order was still being prepared and that would be ready in 15 minutes. I went outside to my vehicle. During this time I noticed the young cashier taking food out to her friends. Completely unprofessional. I go back inside for my order I was informed that it would be another 5-7 minutes. Time goes by & I'm praying that my order is finally done. I am told that my sides are being added which took 3 minutes. My order was completed at 3:55. 25 minutes after my order was supposed to be done! read more

I am definitely a fan of Mr. marbles and not so much country kitchen but I respect the name that they have built up over the years for quality so food. However pardon the expression but there is a new sheriff in town. Bookers BBQ has brought Memphis to Indianapolis and anyone from the south that knows what that means she'll be delighted and your stomach should be smiling right now... Slow smoked meats party made from scratch sides breakfast lunch dinner and specialties are all on the menu... You have from smoked chicken wings to Chitterlings. And the barbecue is not even the best thing they are the breakfast is. You can get an almost 16 ounce T-bone steak and eggs and potatoes and French toast all for under $20 bucks... This is a pretty good soul food restaurant that focuses on implementing healthy seasoning like using turkey meat to season greens and green beans. The turkey ribs are better than any I've had from BBQ restaurants. The greens were just ok but taste more like canned Glory greens, the sweet potatoes could be better and the Mac 'n cheese could use a bit more cheese with a tinch more seasoning. Otherwise, good customer service. I would really love to see this restaurant thrive and stay in the location. We need a good soul food restaurant in this neighborhood and I love to support our own!!! read more

If you're going to post hours of operation on the door, live by those hours! Went to this place at 6:30, 30 minutes before closing to get some carry out, and the door was locked. Three guys inside that paid no attention to the fact that there was a customer at the door. Hours 9 to 7? Weird hours, closing at the peak of the dinner period. Oh, and the OPEN sign was on. This place is great. I stopped in today for a late lunch around 3 PM. After taking a look at the reviews on yelp prior to deciding to go. What drew me in was that they had turkey ribs on the menu. There were only two other places in Indianapolis that serve turkey ribs that I'm aware of. Blackdiamond barbecue which is now closed that used to be on 62nd and Binford, and barbecue heaven which I don't like the way they are prepared as they don't taste like they have been barbecue rather taste like they've been baked. I walked into the establishment and was greeted by Family staff behind the counter. In my experience with soul food I should have placed an order as I knew that would probably be a wait but I did not mind. She took my order and allowed me to sit back down until it was done. I did not pay for my food until they brought it out and presented it to me to make sure I was satisfied by opening the container so that I can look before I left as I was taking this to go. I ordered the turkey rib dinner or lunch. Which came with two sides, my sides were baked beans and fried okra. Everything looked great to me and I even left a little tip. The okra was piping hot meaning they were fresh cooked and The baked beans and turkey ribs were also fairly hot as well. The turkey ribs were amazing they were not tough and their mild barbecue sauce was definitely tasty I actually wish I had asked for a little bit more. The only thing I did not like too much which is why I gave them four stars instead of five was that the baked beans had what looks like ground beef in them. Which would be OK if I ate beef or pork however I don't hence the reason I ordered turkey ribs instead of regular pork ribs. Had I known ahead of time I may have ordered a different side though something told me I should have known the beans will have meat in them as most barbecue or soul food places prepare them this way including my own dad lol. All in all I would recommend this place if you have a taste for barbecue or soul food in the area, The place is a little small but they had seating for you to dine in if you would like to. Man, if I could have given Booker's 4.5 stars I would . Booker's is one of those hidden gems you stumble upon and then wonder why you didn't eat there sooner. I drove by the place at least 50 times over the past year and out of curiosity Yelp'd them to see what folks had to say. Not one negative comment and we all know how rare that is. They don't have a website so I popped in yesterday to get a couple to-go menus to see what they have to offer and tried them out for dinner just now. The food is awesome! In fact this may just end up being my favorite local restaurant. I ordered Booker's House Melt with Mac and cheese and collared greens for my two sides. Everything was seasoned great and the portions aren't skimpy. The House Melt is a patty melt on steroids. Well seasoned hamburger patties made with onions and peppers inside the patties and out, topped with American cheese and served on Texas toast. The collared greens were done perfectly and oh so good. The Mac and Cheese is good, but not oven cooked with that browned cheese goodness. It's boiled with Velveeta mixed in. Booker himself is a really nice dude who offered me a free rib tip while I was waiting. I'm going to be getting those rib tips next time. They are on point! read more
