    Oxtails. Cabbage and yams

Where has this place been?? I've heard about Kountry Kitchen and His Place, but Greens & Things-is new to me. I'm glad we stumbled upon this quaint little spot. Our first try was amazing. Great food and faster than their competitors down the street. I had the smothered chicken and my husband had the oxtails. Our dishes were really good. We will be back. Updated: We've been over there a couple times now and I will say, they could work on their consistency. The third visit wasn't AS amazing as the first time. That's probably why they dont have as strong a following as their competitors. And also why I could only give 3-stars versus the 4-star I had previously awarded. The staff is pretty friendly. The young lady did make a mistake on my order-but made it right without attitude which makes a difference. Sometimes when mistakes are made the people on the front can get attitude and don't want to fix the mistake, but that wasn't the case at all-and it didn't take all day. To me: the smothered chicken and oxtails are the best dishes along with their cabbage. Their mac & cheese isn't consistent one day it's amazing and then on the other day not so much. A friend of mine had their meatloaf; which they only serve on Sundays and was not impressed. So if you try that- use caution. To me they'll be my go to place when I want some good ox tails and smothered chicken. We personally don't eat pork but I know they have ribs and pork chops-I might be willing to give it a try-but might go during the week versus the weekend. During the week is when I've had the best results versus the food on the weekends (surprisingly). If you want to try my friends at Greens & Things-go during the week and try one of my favs mentioned above. I hope they get more consistent-Because when that happens I promise you they'll be the number one soul for on the Eastside.

Love this place and can't believe it has been in the neighborhood and I never knew. I had a half slab of ribs, greens and mac-n-cheese. Pros: -Friendly staff -Mac n cheese was on point. They use a flavorful blend of spices. Not bland at all. -greens were on point and seasoned well. Cons: -ribs were lacking a little. Not a lot of flavor and a little tough. I'll be back to try something new!

I've recommended many people to the place because they just never disappoint. Service, fast. Quality, 1000/10 Consistency, absolutely every time. I've lost count how many times I've ordered from here. I've probably spent several thousand and will continue to! But let this resonate with you. For not having ever been we sure found out that apparently we didn't do ordering correctly. Has no clue that the other room which is the tavern apparently is where you order if you're going to sit in there. Again, it was busy and our first time so had literally no idea. The young girl who pretty much had an attitude and made us feel like we purposely ordered at the counter and went into the tavern was the end of the world. The staff in the tavern were so nice about it and honestly said it wasn't a big deal it happens so no worries. The food. The teriyaki chicken lacked flavor. Perhaps some smothering of the teriyaki so it actually tastes like it would have been better. Served in a take out box was also just weird. Presentation was very unwelcoming. If I wanted takeout I'd go get takeout. Perhaps a little tray how the brisket and beans were served with a side of extra teriyaki sauce and more veggies. This could have been so much better. The ribs were good but nothing to really rave about. Mac was so so. Slaw was good. My 1864 sandwich was bland. The brisket was not flavorful or anything. Lots of overcooked pieces. I guess I pictured a mixture of soft tender and flavored meat chunks but instead it was tiny burnt overcooked small bits with more Giardiniera than meat. Fries were seasoned very well. Beans were very tasty. Guess I should have stocked up on sides. Sweet tea was really good. Atmosphere was nice in tavern. Glad we sat there. The main dining area was too loud and crowded. Small tables and just too chaotic for us. I'd say this is a one and done. I really wanted to love this place. I had high expectations I suppose. Not exactly disappointed but definitely not satisfied. Our friends drove and hour and a half while it was about 40 min for us but now onto the search for some delicious brisket. Three meals and drinks for $54, definitely expected this to be top tier. The search continues. Three stars for the tea, sides, and amazing old fashioned drink.

It does not look as though you are entering a restaurant when you approach, but you are. I think they are configured more for takeout, but they have access to the large event area with cafeteria-style seating. So there is plenty of room to eat in if you'd prefer (which we did). The hours seem a little limited so be sure to check before you go. The menu, including the specials, is on a white board as you walk in. The selection is streamlined, BBQ-dominated and carnivore-oriented (other than the sides). The system is a walk-up and order from the kitchen doorway. My wife chose the Pulled Pork Sandwich with Baked Beans while I opted for the Chopped Chicken Sandwich with Kickin Coleslaw. The food was very good. The proprietors were very friendly and engaging, and that was a plus. The prices were quite reasonable. With drinks and tip, it was about $14 each. My wife actually took enough away from hers for another meal, so it was a good deal. Our daughter and son-in-law live close, so we hope to try this place again when we visit.

Been coming here for years. It is a staple in Indy for ribs, and BBQ in general. My go-to orders…read moreare the rib tips and the pig feet. You can order the meat only or get a dinner that includes 2 sides and your choice of bread (white, wheat, or cornbread). They provide very generous portion sizes. The rib tips are the best that I have had in Indy thus far. They are tender and the seasoning they use is delicious. You could eat them without any sauce. However, the sauce is what takes it over the top for me. They offer sweet, medium, hot, or they will mix the sauces for you. The hot has a pretty good kick as a warning if you are sensitive to spice. I recently tried the Bar B Q bun, which is essentially a pulled pork sandwich. The pork is finely shredded and the sauce is poured on top of the pork. It's almost a fork and knife sandwich, as the bottom bun gets soaked in the sauce. Their sides have definitely reduced in quality over the years. I recently tried the mac and cheese and greens. As a note, they only have greens Friday - Sunday and they often times run out on Sunday if you do not get there early. The mac and cheese was dry and had little flavor. The greens, which used to be my favorite in the city, reminded me of cooked spinach and weren't seasoned. The service remains great. With the amount of people waiting while I was there, they were friendly and efficient. I wanted to order chess pie and there were not any readily available behind the counter. They told me they had some coming out of the oven in the kitchen if I was willing to wait and they brought it over once done. It is carry-out only, so be prepared to take it elsewhere to eat. You can call ahead to place your order as well.
