FANTASTIC Mexican food. I love this place. I got the chorizo/steak taco plate. What a great combo and very tasty. Equally scrumptious beef burrito and the kid's taquitos were fresh, crispy and delicious. Very intimate, relaxing setting. Nice little family diner on Greenwood just south of Lake street. I came here after my Chiropractor and had breakfast. I wanted someplace I had never been to for a quick breakfast. What I found was Greenwood Restaurant in Glenview. This place is owned by a Greek family that has been here for 58 years. The inside is very dated as you walk in the food prep area is on the left w/a counter facing this area and swivel bar stools. There is ample seating w/2 rows of boothsthat run the length of the restaurant, front to back. The wall on the far right is loaded from the top of the wainscot to the ceiling with pictures of people that have eaten here in the past 58 years. Pretty cool Many of the people seemed to be regulars and were pretty friendly talking to me as I walked down the aisle to an open booth. I ordered 2 eggs, hash browns (crispy) and ham which came with toast for $7 + change. The food was breakfast food and really nothing that stood out. As a longtime Greenwood Diner customer I was a little skeptical, but I've been to the Greenwood Grill twice now, and ordered takeout tonight, and it is everything everyone says!!! We are big fans of Mexican food, and this is close to the best we have had! Tacos, burritos and tamales are all delish. Their sauces are AMAZING, and the portions are excellent! Unfortunately I did not have a good experience here . The waitresses where overwhelmed and couldn't handle all the customers . I waited very long for a straw . Then for hot sauce . The worst part of this all was the waitress we had touched the food with her barehands applying butter on toast picking the toast up with her barehands after handling the register ? Applying avocado with barehands not once did I see her wash her hands the worst part was she made a mistake with my sisters food and took it back and touched the lettuce tomatoes and Cheese with her again barehands that she never once washed the kitchen is open so you are able to see everything . I've driven by this place for years and never stopped. Then I heard it was going out of business and guess that it did briefly. Now it has reopened so I decided to try it as I'm totally on board with supporting local independent places like this - especially in times like these. So I stopped in early on a Sunday morning. The first thing I noticed was the effort put in to socially distance guests by putting up plastic guards around the restaurant. It's such a shame so much money has to be invested in doing this - but that said, the industry and most restaurant are doing their best to give their guests a safe dining experience - it was quite evident here. So I opted for my standard order - OJ, Denver omelette with a lightly toasted English Muffin. My server was awesome - truly hospitable and attentive. So... for the most part, everything lined up to be a great experience. But... the omelette and hash browns that came with it were just ok. Portions were smaller than most omelettes I've had - and yes, I know some places put their eggs in a blender to poof them up a bit with air. But this omelette was truly an average omelette at best - not a bad one, but nothing to go bonkers about either. I wish I could have offered up a better review. I think I'll try and go there sometime when the lunch menu is available and I can give the place a second chance. read more

It was a busy Sunday during brunch time and my buddy and I were lucky to find this spot. After a 5 minute wait we got a table. It's a nice homey, clean place with a good vibe and friendly staff. Quick service and the food was very good. I got the eggs and chorizo with a side of corn tortillas as I am Celiac and needed gluten free. They were very accommodating and we had a great experience. I have been coming to Greenwood Grill for the last several years. Recently on my last visit March 2024 the tall cook was not wearing any gloves while handling the food. This is unsanitary and disgusting. I have no idea if this cook has washed his hands prior to handling the food I was prepared. Came here to try this place out because it had great reviews but then when we saw them cooking, none of them were wearing gloves while handling our food. The cashier was handling cash and had a bandage on one of her fingers and we never saw them washing their hands until we brought it up to them. The cashier did apologize but the guy in the back was showing an attitude who also didn't use gloves. My wife is pregnant so I told them that she cannot be eating cross contaminated food but then the tall guy ordered the cashier to use the previously used ingredients on my new sandwich. I would not recommend going here for this reason and I read some yelp reviews on the business and other people had the same complaints yet they have not made any improvements. Wearing gloves and being sanitized is the bare minimum in order to operate a restaurant business and it is a health risk!! read more

The downsides are that they don't take card, so you have to remember to bring cash, and the portion sizes aren't enormous. But then you're also not paying that much for it. It is easy to drive right by this little family-owned place, which is on our way to and from O'Hare. It is definitely worth a stop. On my first visit, the place was undergoing significant renovations and the noise was deafening at times. The staff coped with the situation as best they could, and I found the owner, Verenice, to be charming. I really enjoyed my tamales and eggs. Other raters are right--the red chile salsa is very good but hot! Despite this somewhat crazy experience, my wife and I returned this week coming back from the airport. The renovations were completed and made the cafe very inviting. We both had chilaquiles, which were outstanding. The young woman who waited on us, (another family member) was pleasant and attentive. I also have to give the cooks high marks. They work in an open kitchen, so I was able to observe their efficiency and extremely clean procedures close up (I went to culinary school and have a sanitation certificate, so I'm well versed in what makes for a clean kitchen). Finally, be sure to get the pozole rojo, if it's available. We will definitely be back, even if we're not trying to catch a flight. read more

Are you looking for a very good America breakfast/ lunch diner then this is your place. You need to be looking for this gem or you might drive right by as it sits at the end a short groups of shops. As of the writing of this review their façade is being remodeled and should soon be updated. The interior walls are covered with satisfied customer photos and the daily lunch specials are always on the board. The staff is friendly and they all make sure that your coffee cup and water glasses never go empty. The restaurant is always filled with regulars or at least everyone is treated like family which makes the atmosphere seem that much more welcoming. Today we ordered the breakfast special which was two eggs, two slices of bacon, two pieces of toast with two jellies all for $5.25 if ordered before 11am. Add a couple of cups of joe and you and your date are out of here for under $20.00 tip included. I have only visited for lunch once but once a gain their soup and sandwich lunch special was easy on the wallet and very tasty and filling. I love this place. Whether it's crowded or quiet, the service is excellent and the food is delicious!! I like stopping in here after work for a margarita and a quesadilla. The woman who owns it worked her tail off as a waitress when it was a breakfast diner, and when they were going to sell, she bought it and turned it into the wonderful place it is now. The difference between the two is night and day. It's nice and light, so cutely decorated, with indoor and outdoor seating! And she have a place right next door with slot machines-- and you can order right off the greenwood grill menu and eat over there! The owner, Verenice is a savvy businesswoman.
