Really nice cup of coffee with good selection of accompanying foods. Tried two different locations that were equally good. Cappuccino was very smooth with no bitterness. Solid midtown coffee spot with a worthwhile rewards program. If you pay with their app you get $5 for every $50 you spend. Plus on random days when it's rainy or cold, they'll just send you free coffees! I'm personally most partial to their cold brew, which is a bit sour with chocolatey notes. After moving to NYC from Australia the first thing I did was ask the receptionist at my office for some coffee shop recommendations. Her initial response was so promising: "Well, I'm not a Starbucks kind of girl." This immediately filled me with hope as I consider Starbucks coffee the equivalent of drinking dirt. However, my relief was short lived. She suggested visiting a place called 'Dunkin' Donuts.' Kill me now. After visiting Greg's for the first time, I knew I wouldn't be going anywhere else. And you shouldn't either. Everything about this place is awesome. The staff, the service, the speed, the pastries and most importantly the coffee. The other thing that Greg's has over other espresso places is its distinct lack of wank. There is a direct competitor in the Rockefeller Center that goes by the name of a colored marine animal that is perhaps the wankiest place I've ever been to. The baristas all wear different stupid hats and there's an attitude that lingers in the air about as much as their shitty, overpriced coffee does on your palate. Another good thing about Greg's is that Greg is always in there. You'll know it's him because it's as if the hair and glasses graphic of the company logo has magically come to life and appeared behind the counter to make coffee with his staff. Clearly a good bloke. The final good thing about this place is they don't keep lost umbrellas. I got mine back after leaving it in there yesterday. So I stop in to this place and obviously make a bee line for the pastries. I was sure in for a surprise- jelly donuts! Magnificent little pockets of sugar. But at a swanky looking coffee shop? I needed to learn more. I asked the friendly barista behind the counter what each pastry was, and then he said something that made me do a double take. They have "cronuts". (If you haven't heard about the latest craze, just google cronuts & NYC) Yes my friends, I didn't wait in line for hours, and I sure as heck ate that cronut. And it was divine. 'Nuff said. I ordered the Coffee Freddo with Mocha and it was so, so good. Just the right amount of coffee, mocha, and a generous helping of whipped cream. The seating area is quite large and comfy and there's free wifi. I'm really glad I stopped in and can't wait till they get more locations. Plus, that logo is just too clever. read more

There was plenty of room to sit, coffee was good, food options are limited, WiFi setup is easy, electricity is accessible, love the music selection. Work: Wifi is just a connection - no registration page, no code with purchase, and it's fast. Pure, simple, and free. Coffee: Decent - I went for the drip and didn't try any specialties. Baristas: The lady who took my order was fun. We chatted a bit while she prepared the order. The coffee shop wasn't very busy at the time. Food: Limited options. The croissant I had was tasty. One of my favorite coffee shops in the city. With yummy home-made pastries. (And a window through which you can see the bakery items made in the back!) The employees at Gregory's really love their coffee. They can tell you about the flavors of each bean variety, the can tell you about all the different ways they can brew it. And all of their employees are just super-friendly. The store on 46th Street usually has three "single origin" coffees available that get replaced every six weeks or so. The chalkboard behind the counter lists the flavors of the single origin beans - e.g. tea, blueberry, apricot, etc. (None of the coffees have flavors added - these are the natural flavors of the coffee beans, NOT added artificial flavor.) I have yet to be disappointed by one of their single origins. Be warned that the single origin coffees take about 5 minutes to make, since each is individually brewed and hand-pressed into your cup. Each morning, Gregory's also has a "featured" single origin available either iced or hot. These are also usually really good, and available immediately, so you don't have to wait 5 minutes. Every so often they have a "special" mixed coffee drink - once it was a double espresso with habanero and raspberry added. (I know that sounds a bit weird, but it was really good!) The pastries are also really amazing, although some are a bit oily. Cakes, croissants, donuts, etc. Dieters beware. There's a house blend of coffee. I tried it once, and I much prefer the single origins and the morning featured coffee. They do have regular mixed coffee drinks (lattes, etc.), smoothies, and fresh-squeezed juices - I can't comment on most of these because I haven't really tried them. read more

The decor is minimal but sets the right mood with its gray and black interior. The coffee is a standout as baristas pull quality shots from the espresso machine and even make the gorgeous foam designs in your steamed milk. The espresso is dark, full of flavor, and when enjoyed fresh, needs no help from milk or sugar. It almost has a caramel note to it that keeps you wanting more. There is free WiFi at Gregory's. Stop in, grab a great cup of coffee and open up your lap top in the back to write your latest blog post, or upload your latest pics from the past nights event. In the back with the seating is where the baked goods come from. The big glass makes the back area like live entertainment as you watch the baker crank out delicious goodies to entice you with that giant cup of coffee. There is other merchandise to tickle your taste buds like sparkling water, yogurt, oats, and growlers. No, they dont serve beer. But the concept is genius. Since Gregory's Cold Brews their iced coffee, it can last for 5-7 days. They sell growlers of iced coffee for people who love them some iced coffee at home but cant make it to the coffee shop several times per day. And its environmentally smart too! read more

I never know what I am going to get. The nicest staffer or a jerk with an attitude. Their prices are pretty exorbitant for a place that is a second-tier below Stumptown, Grumpy's or Think Coffee, only Gregory's is more "chain feeling" but lacks the professionalism of Starbucks. God forbid you ask for anything it will be nickeled-and-dimed out of you. Add in the dry pastries on the side and its hard to justify. I will come back because 46th is a sort of "no man's land" - not quite touristy Times Square, not quite 5th Avenue Shopping a la 51st St and above and not quite a true business district like the eastside. My choices are limited, but Gregory's inspired me to return to Starbucks... Thanks Gregory's! Sorry, kiddos - but when I ask for a decaf and you cut off making it after 12 noon, give me an attitude and then offer no alternatives - please! Are you kidding? (Hint: Most people know the default response is a Decaf Americano.) Your lattes are inconsistent in thickness and sweetness and your chai is meh - you lose a star. The attitude knocks down an average spot like Gregory's a star. Note, there are some very nice employees, but staying with the theme of wildly inconsistent, I never know when I am going to get a wannabe with an attitude - and I am a regular! Specifically at 46th Street Gregorys location, Adriana and Sierra stand out as a perfect example of extraordinary customer service. Came here to do work with a friend one afternoon. I was pleasantly surprised by the service, which is what led me here to write up a review. The girls running the bar were so genuinely friendly and welcoming, which made me very happy to have chosen to come here. We spent at least two hours here doing work on our laptops at the tables near the front door. There's ample space in here and a lot of people came in and out, some staying longer than others. It was never too loud because it was so spacious. Thankfully their internet worked, and worked well! The door was propped open and it got pretty chilly after a while, but other than that I have no complaints. The bathroom was modern and very clean. The menu isn't too large, but I'm sure everyone can find something they'd like. I also really loved the decor of this place. Modern, simple, but quite stylish. Too cute, really. I had an average coffee here in past and nice lady at counter had recommended me their chai latte for next visit (and also that they will easily beat starbucks Chai). So I had decided to give it a shot, in my second visit to store. I specifically asked, will your Chai T be too sweet like Starbucks Chai? And the rep had said, no. Starbucks Tea liquid has 28 grams of sugar. That's 6 tablespoon of sugar !! And guess what - Gregory's Chai tea latte was sweeter then Starbucks - and had no flavor of chai in it !! (I hope it didn't have processed sugar in addition!). Why do you have to add tons of sugar? Why don't you leave that sugar part on users !! When we ask for Chai, we are looking for "Tea", not sugar ! Whole 4+$ cup went to garbage bin. If it were starbucks, i could have atleast provided them feedback, and they would had made my drinks right ! An afternoon without Coffee today :( P.S. Let me do you a favor and not talk about the "decor" of this place. It's a fucking coffee shop. The only thing that matters is the fucking coffee. The fucking coffee is the foundation on which a fucking coffee shop operates. If the coffee is shit, I am sure there are other places where you can sit, discussing the abstract paint tones and writing your novel on your MacBook. This place does coffee proper. Just how proper is coffee? Considering that they have coffee tasters at their main location that brew each blend of coffee 4 or 5 ways (french press, aero press, drip, pour-over, etc.) to determine which method is best for the particular blend - you are bound to get a proper cup of coffee. The staff here are as knowledgeable as can be and me being a bit of a fan of coffee, explained to me the madness to their methods which allow me to provide you with a fruitful review. They take their craft very seriously, which further guarantees you a perfect cup every time. They have single origin blends which can be custom brewed for you, as well as the flavor of the day that is always fresh, but runs out after 2 PM. I prefer the single origin blends, as I can see my barista brew it like his job depended on it. The Rwanda blend is probably my favorite. It's aero-pressed into an 8 oz. cup and is very concentrated, as well as flavor packed. That being the case, you will want to enjoy this with some water, as your face will start twitching after it. Sometimes, I'll come here in the afternoon, already way over my coffee limit for the day, just to shoot the shit and learn more about the different blends and methods. I think it's safe to say that this is by far my all-time favorite coffee shop in NYC. Well done chaps! read more

I guess the problem is that Starbucks has invaded every corner of midtown, so young professionals in this area are just thirsty for something (anything!) decent and non-Starbucks. Overall, coffee is decent and pretty solid baked goods section. Reason for the two stars: This place is right next to my office and they were selling a tumbler for $30 and ALL drinks would then be half priced when you bring in the tumbler, with no time restrictions. Because I work so close I figured that's a deal I could really take advantage of. Out of nowhere they decided to cancel this whole program. This is the place to go if you are a coffee connoisseur or just enjoy a good quality cup of coffee. Their iced house coffee is brewed for hours overnight so that it does not have the acidic flavor as most coffees. I've been meaning to try their other coffees but always end up getting their ice house coffee. They also have an array of delicious pastries. I tried their cronut which is a combination of a croissant and a donut with vanilla cream inside-a heavy yet delicious treat! They close a bit early probably because it was a Sunday, but there's a Barnes and Nobles right down the street in case you get kicked out and want to continue on their conversation. I dig the vibe here--very modern and cool for lack of a better description. Since we came in the late afternoon I decided to pass on the coffee though I heard that it's quite good here. Love this place. I am not a coffee drinker, but I go just for their fresh brewed ice teas, their smores cookies and their apple fritters. So for all you non-coffee drinkers, but those who have sweet tooths, try their smores cookie and their apple fritter and you can't go wrong. The cookie is baked in house and is not too sweet, like most cookies are. I'm not a chocolate person and when you look at this cookie, it looks extremely chocolatey, but it's not. The apple fritter is better than I've had any donut place and I am picky about my donuts/fried goods. Again, baked in house. Also, if you think you'll come often, ask for a gregular card. Gregory's filled midtowns desperate need for good coffee. The staff is super friendly and they have amazing specialty blends, sweet blended drinks that are way better than Starbucks frapps, healthy and desserty smoothies, and a good variety of yummy cookies and pastries. I like that they always have lemon ice water out, there is a fair amount of seating for midtown and they have a decent restroom. There are plenty of refrigerated healthy drinks and snacks as well. They offer up free wifi and a comfortable place to take a break from the midtown scene. The busy-ness tends to ebb and flow, sometimes there will be a huge rush of people in line, but 15 minutes later it could be empty, they are pretty quick, so unless you are really in a rush I wouldn't get intimidated by the lines. read more
