I really really really want to like Gregory's Coffee because the staff is friendly, service is quick, and it seems like a suitable spot to get some studying or work done. But the coffee doesn't cut it for me because it's very weak. I was suprised when the flat white I ordered was in a 12 oz cup. It's usually served in a smaller 6 or 8 oz size cup. My standards are very high. I don't like Starbucks. But Gregory's Coffee is truly excellent. I either get the tea or drip coffee in the morning. They are both consistently delicious. The staff is friendly and customer oriented. But the true star and the reason I go twice a day is for Tara. She is truly amazing. Not only is she a wonderful barista, but she is extremely welcoming. I came here for a hot chocolate, and it was terrible. I got whipped cream with it, and my drink was lukewarm, really sweet, and just tasted like sweet water. Definitely not a fan. I could taste the milk, but it was so diluted that there was basically no chocolate taste. The milk was cold I guess, so it made the entire drink lukewarm. The whipped cream was also really cold, and it was really thick (it almost tasted like ice cream). Please use real chocolate and more of it! read more

I love this location because it is so spacious for a coffee shop in New York. I can always find seating, and there are outlets. It also has some of the best coffee I've ever had. I typically get the caramel macchiato, and they always offer me whip cream on top. Perfect place to grab a cup and study! read more

Don't let the taste of the coffee fool you. Me and my friend both ordered cold brew drinks and shortly after had to stumble into a public restroom to throw up. Iced latte was pretty decent. I had to add 3 sugars to it because I just can't have caffeine if it's the least bit bitter. I usually get the hot vanilla latte at Gregory's because they are too good to be true (and yet they exist), but this time I tried the cold one at this location and it was pretty good. Atmosphere here is really chill, kind of has a modern vibe going to it. Adds a nice touch to the neighborhood. I'd return. Don't forget to get the Gregular card to rack up those rewards. read more

wow fantastic americanos - powerful strong wake-up drink ... I regularly walk from Lexington to Sixth on 31st for Gregorys in the morning. Kind of an eclectic crowd at this location. Many tourists and many very trendy (read stuck up) fashionable people ... many of whom like to hog up as much room at the few benches as possible. Recently, during the aftermath of Sandy, while I still had no power, and needed to charge up at Gregorys, two other customers made up crazy stories about, "waiting for my sister, so you cant sit next to me ... two hours later sister still had not shown up and then some crazy dude with one computer running broadcast TV and another he was on the internet on and an iPod for emailing... also, can't sit next to him either - waiting for a girlfriend who never showed up ... of course its very unlikely that someone working on three devices simultaneously would have a "real" girlfriend anyway, it was probably a virtual girlfriend! I did manage to sit on one of Gregorys tiny small stools for several hours, and do what I needed to do. Just saying some weird ass folks hang out there. read more

I love coming here in the mornings and seeing Gregory, the proprietor of these coffee chains. I guess The Boss has to man this station himself since this is a new chain. What I love about this place is that it's brave enough to be right across the street from a Starbucks that's packed every morning. That Starbucks chain probably saw Gregory's as a threat. For the past week and a half, Starbucks is renovating and expanding. I hope this Gregory's chain can stand, after Starbucks returns. Gregory's cares about its customers. There are purse hooks on the high tables! I always struggle with my purse when I sit at high tables. Thanks for thinking about us purse carriers, Gregory! The canisters of milk, skim milk, and soy milk are HUGE and always full. Gregory's also provides its paying and nonpaying with free iced water, flavored with lemons and free "munchkins" by the registers. What more can I say? Starbucks, eat your heart out. Starbucks, please exit the building with your overpriced burnt coffee. Dunkin' Donuts, please stay down in the dumps with the street water coffee off the little cart on the corner of the sidewalk. Get the hell out of town because Gregory's is about to take over. I've drank Dunkin' Donuts and Starbucks coffee for years on end, all out of sheer convenience. There was never a Gregory's in the vicinity and frankly, I've never heard about this chain until I switched my job and starting roaming Midtown. Far too long have I been kept in the dark with inconsistent, diabetes filled hazelnut coffees, many a moon have been slyly duped and shelled out dollars upon dollars for an overpriced cup of Joe that does nothing but place me back into a deep slumber. I have dabbled and squandered into the likes of "comfort coffee" to the point where I have been blinded by my own ignorance. From one sip of Gregory's, I have been delivered and now I see the light. A regular cup of coffee costs just as much as coffee from Starbucks (sometimes a little less depending on your choice) but I can assure you, it's worth every single cent you pay. My drink of choice, a small iced coffee with a shot of hazelnut. It does the job every single time and personally, all I need is one cup and I'm golden for the day. :-) Gregory's... where have you been all these years? More so, where have I been???? P.S. Carrot raisin pound cake: YUM. This was the perfect place to come and read on a Sunday morning. The prices are super reasonable. I got the carrot raisin pound cake and the nu brew at the recommendation of the baristas and am totally thrilled with both. The people who work here are SUPER friendly and were helpful and enthusiastic in offering me recommendations. The space is clean and there is a lot of seating which is nice. Solid brew for a solid price. While Gregory's may not be quite on par with spots like Stumptown or Blue Bottle the coffee here is strong, of a high quality, and served by awesome humans. I wish Gregory's made more of an attempt to source more unique/awesome baked goods (Dough and/or Doughnut Plant doughnuts, please) but I like the sizable carb bombs they are working with. The espresso here has a nice punch and is pulled by baristas that know what they are doing. The day I came it tasted a little over-roasted but I have had enough espresso to know this can vary wildly from cup to cup so no biggie. Anyway, if you are still reading this just know that this is not the best coffee in the area hands down, even for a chain, but Gregory's is a very solid place to slake that never-ending thirst for sweet, sweet caffeine. read more

The brewed coffee is consistently fresh, not like the $bux across the street, and the employees seem to have regular shifts and are pleasant to chat with; they are cheerful and knowledgeable about coffee. The area for adding coffee extras (milk/sugar) is often cleaned... bathroom upstairs is a different story though because it's upstairs I can see why it's sometimes neglected. This Greg's is right by my new office. The coffee is a little acidic but better than any of the other offerings in Herald Square. And normally I love the apple fritters and pound cakes. I was just in here and was given a dried-out end piece of the lemon poppy pound cake. Completely inedible. At over $7 for a medium drip and a pastry, the pastry needs to be edible (like it normally is). If I wanted inedible food I would go to Speedy's. While everyone compares Gregorys Coffee to Starbucks, I see no need. It's in a class entirely different. Starbucks is consistently awful (although striving for consistency is key, right?), and while this is my first time to Gregorys it was very good. Gregorys Coffee actually employs a true barista; that's right, someone that knows how to make properly frothed milk, not to mention beautiful latte art! What a concept...! If you've had properly frothed milk, you know what an amazing taste and texture it gives to a latte. If you've had properly frothed milk, you likely long for it as I do; keeping your fingers crossed every time you order from a new place, you know milk frothed to perfection is few and far between although it shouldn't be... Oh wait, it's because of the Starbucks of the world - destroying the art (and taste) of espresso one cup at a time. Kick that nasty Starbucks habit and if you "love" espresso try some REAL espresso beverages. New York has a lot of authentic espresso shops and I've yet to go to one that disappoints. The only reason I am giving Gregorys Coffee 4 stars instead of 5 is the latte could have been a little warmer and despite ordering a caramel sauce latte, I don't think there was any caramel. That said, I love plain lattes too, so it didn't matter much apart from paying for sauce I did not receive. Great place, give it a whirl! read more

Stopped by early in the morning for a coffee before heading to Penn Station. I still say I'm not a coffee snob, as in, I will order soy lattes and green tea lattes from Starbucks without shame. But I've come to enjoy Stumptown and have taken to hand-grinding coffee beans at work in the mornings. As I evolve from a soy green tea latte drinker (which I will never give up!) to someone who can enjoy black coffee when it's done right, I was excited to try aero press brewed single origin coffee at Gregory's. I picked the Brazilian one and as expected it took a while to make. Sadly it wasn't as good as I hoped it would be. Wasn't expected angels to sing in my ear or anything, but it tasted very sour. I'm not sure if it was a mismeasurement of sizing or if that is just the size they sell, but for over $3.00 the smallest cup, I think 12 oz, was only half full. It was probably 6-7 sips. When we visited Gregory's Coffee in New York City, I passed on having coffee but I did order some hot chocolate. I'm usually not impressed with hot chocolate because I guess I'm looking for the wrong thing - a cup of hot chocolate should taste like a delicious candy bar. Is this too much to ask?! Well, it's not too much at Gregory's. My cup of hot chocolate was excellent. The chocolate was rich and creamy and didn't taste watered down at all. And I don't know for sure, but I think they topped it with fresh whipped cream. Gregory's Coffee ended up being the perfect spot to stop in and warm up on a cold day in Manhattan. We tried to brave the cold and tour the city but couldn't resist the quaint atmosphere in this little coffee shop and spent some time enjoying delicious drinks and talking about our day. We went from being tourists to feeling like local hipsters. And for this non-coffee drinker, I was able to fit right in with my tasty hot chocolate. read more
