Gregory's is a great coffee chain in New York City! They have great quality coffee and noms to choose from. I decided to park myself at one of the tables and get some work done on a weekday morning. I will say this place has quite a lot of foot traffic! It seems to be a popular place because there was a constant line of customers and a large group of people waiting for their beverages at all times. It an also get a tad messy because of the amount of people they serve, with trash and spillages on the tables at times that don't get cleaned quickly enough. But still, if you find yourself a table and stay put, you can have an enjoyable drink, snack and get a little work done if you don't mind being distracted by all the New Yorkers and tourists coming in and out! I am in this location every Saturday and Sunday. Their dark roast coffee is amazing (TRY IT!) They also sometimes have free bite sized samples of their pastries. I love the chocolate buckwheat ball which is gluten free and vegan! My go-to is their Coco Oats! It is in the refrigerator section and at first I was hesitant because I was like eh how long has this been sitting here, etc. NO GUYS SERIOUSLY GO TRY THESE OATS! I'm just a college student who loves trying new foods. Gregory's Coffee has been in my bookmarks for awhile and it's like a block away from where I go to school, so why the heck not? I've noticed that it's been slowly extending its reaches throughout Manhattan and MAY be the Starbuck's next formidable foe in the long run. This is also a refreshing sight from all the Starbucks that keeps popping up, block after block. Walked in around 8AM in the morning to the wonderful smells of roasted coffee beans. Ordered a Caramel Macchiato, which was rich, creamy, and not watered down. The macchiato took awhile to come out since orders were piling in(Yes, New Yorkers have to get their coffee fix, no matter the time of the day) and there was only one person doing the latte art. I wouldn't recommend getting the baked goods...they don't seem fresh, but if you must, then go right ahead! I got into a habit of ordering from Gregory's once a week. I would order espresso for myself and a Nu Brew for the person who works at the front desk of my building. Every week I ask for sugar packets on the side because I do not know her preference of sugar tastes. Every week they simply cannot add f*cking sugar to the bag for her. It's really annoying that this light ask can't be done. Instead I'm forced to check their option to add sugar (1,2,3) and who knows what sugar is being used. Last time I did this she said it was unbearably sweet. This is a dumb problem easily solved if you took 5 seconds to put in sugar packets. Oh and if you call the restaurant/coffee shop to speak to someone you get given a damn automated prompt which sends you text messages. Answer your damn phone at a coffee shop. read more

It's so wasteful to drink from a to-go cup when you're not to-going, and it kind of ruins the charm. - Furthermore, I ordered an espresso, so I had to drink a small shot of espresso out of a regular-sized to-go cup. Not picturesque. - Espresso was okay... I don't normally add sweeteners to my espresso, but this one needed some. It's a solid coffee shop, but I'm mostly just peeved about the to-go cups. Overall - This is not the nutella coffee you have been looking for What I got - NuBrew Taste - Nubrew is a coffee with milk that has nutella mixed in. I was really really looking forward to this because of past experiences with nutella and coffee. Unfortunately, this was not one of those experiences. Additionally, the nutella flavor was very light and did not have the rich nutella flavor we all look forward to. It was more like the beans were just hazelnut flavored. I asked for a nubrew (nutella, milk, coffee) served with hot coffee because they do not have that on the menu and they were able to make it for me. Atmosphere - Noisy, busy, fast paced. This is not the place you come to cozy up and quietly read a book. This was a lovely little find during my NYC trip. Gregorys is a popular ny chain of coffee shops you can find throughout the city. I went to the Flatiron location after lunch and it was a delightful pick-me-up before we continued the rest of our busy day. I tried the Flower Power drink, this was cold brew with lavender, honey and hemp milk. Pretty strong lavender taste, but I liked it! I've had similar lattes (with honey + lavender) but it was even smoother with cold brew instead of espresso, easier on the stomach and less jittery feeling from the caffeine. My friends tried the honey badger (cold brew with honey and almond milk) and iced americano (espresso with water), and also enjoyed these as well. Though I think I liked my drink the best! It was a laidback atmosphere inside with students, meetings, people reading and tourists like us. I always enjoy any opportunity to people watch in coffee shops, and this one was great! read more

After having a disappointing coffee at a bagel shop, I dropped by here to get a proper coffee. After reading some Yelp reviews on the Dirty Chai, I was excited to try theirs. I was lucky enough to stumble upon this brand whilst travelling with my family over the holidays to New England. We initially stopped in a ranch in Greenwich CA and had an amazing experience, the staff and products truly were superb. I've widened my list of favourite places now to include Gregory's and will always hang out when I'm in NYC. If you get the chance to swing by do try some of the Vegan options which even converted an old traditionalist like myself. Not the counters, not where you order, not where you put in your milk (either location).... this place is clean. Perhaps this reviewer expects a freshly sanitized coffee table before enjoying her beverage? Regardless, I came here in much need of a strong coffee, and got it with a large red eye. I loved that they had soy milk on the counter, and sugar in the raw as well. It was a simple purchase, but it was all I needed. It's definitely not a cafe for doing work, unless you don't mind the rowdiness of both people and music. They have both Ritual and their own app's order-ahead, which is convenient. Timing is accurate for pickup on the Ritual app. I had "The New Yorker", which was pre-made and heated up in front of me (decent if you're starving). I also had a cold brew, which was pretty small in size. Personally, the Americano is better. read more

This place is aces. The line can be out-the-door if you're slow getting off the 6 train and all your fellow passengers beat you to the shop, but it always moves fast. The baristas are friendly and attentive. Both hot and iced coffee are excellent. And for breakfast food: if I'm feeling like I should be healthy(er), the Swiss oatmeal (a loose yogurt/oatmeal/nuts/dried fruit combo) is outstanding and filling. If I'm feeling like I normally do, then they have ample whole wheat donuts for me to inhale (I've written about them in another review, but these are among my favorite donuts in the whole city). Prices are definitely on the higher side, especially for a chainlet-type place, but I think it's worth it. Between this place, BRC, and Birch, this is a surprising good coffee area. read more

Normally they'd have to be open 24 hours to get the fifth star from me, but despite closing at 10PM, they're open at 6AM, and so I can manage to get in before office hours really start ca. 3 hours later. I guess I also wrote some particularly good code sitting there, so it gets to ride on the coattails of that, too. The dirty chai is good enough what little sense of taste I have left is impressed, though don't ask me to actually correctly tell which is which between it and heck, even lemonade in a taste test. I order it anyway. Most importantly, they've got enough space for me to move around and get up and down, power outlets to plug in when laptopping, and, of course, wifi. The one downside is that the bathrooms are down a staircase, and worse yet, one with a banister only on one side, so it's extremely awkward for me to get back and forth to it. It may make a slight difference for the rest of the world that they've got more than the bathroom door between line of sight and their laptop. read more

Beware of the GODAWFUL scaffolding that darkens the entrance (since 2018, A LOT of mindless construction is happening in Manhattan and Brooklyn that force people to walk through dark tunnels of scaffolding). Once inside, seating options might LOOK good, with small tables for two or a large communal table. Free seats here probably exist during a busy weekday because park benches are more comfortable. Speaking of seats, the bathroom's toilet seat was broken. Speaking of the bathroom, a feng shui point is lost because during my visit, one coffee drinker's seat was wedged between the communal table and bathroom door that hit him as "only paying customers" exited the bathroom...but maybe that's on the customer? The audio SUCKS. While music might play a few decibels too loud, rude customers *working for home* on *business calls* make this small cafe LOUD. Both music and phone yappers, sounding like Billy McFarland and Elizabeth Holmes, compete for volume. When I tried to block out the noise, I could not hear anything through my in-ear headphones at a non-painful volume with so many people trying to loudly legitimize whatever they think they do for employment. "SHUT THE F UP" signage would help. The perks? The coffee was TASTY and kept me awake and able to focus on work after only two hours of sleep the night before. There are LOTS of baked good options. There are a few packages of nuts, caramels, and caffeinated chocolate candy. I am not returning soon because of noise pollution filled with vague business jargon and sciatica-inducing seats. Since the chairs are as comfortable as timeshare pyramid scheme furniture and some customers' delusional grandiose behavior at Gregorys Coffee creates an environment that lacks relaxation and is reminiscent of an awful corporate culture that NO ONE wants to be in, my Human Resources-inspired review is: Wifi = Meets expectations. Barista = Exceeds Expectations. Prompt, polite, and knowledgeable. Comfort = Needs Improvement. Has displayed capability to solve complex seating problems, but fails to reward paying customers with comfortable seats and functional toilet seat. It's a typical coffee shop, but one with killer drinks. I come here to get work done instead of going to the closest Starbucks because the selections here are much much better. I'm obsessed with their dirty chai and the mocha latte - they're the right balance of espresso and sweetness! Just make sure to add your own sugar to your tea since the hot tea I got came with nothing added to it (I don't recall Starbucks serving hot tea so points for respecting the non-coffee drinkers). They have just about anything you'd want to add into the tea available, including packs of Sugar in the Raw. I know where I'm going the next time I have my laptop with time to kill. read more

This place is great! My husband and I were walking down Park avenue for the Summer Streets event. We have a tradition of trying new coffee places on Saturdays, and I had done some research and found Gregory's on Yelp. It had some pretty great reviews, and I'm a huge fan of good coffee, so we decided to make it our midway stop on our 2-hour walk down Park Avenue. The store is big and there is an abundance of seating. They have delicious cold brew and several single origin options. The girls behind the counter were friendly and efficient. At first we were surprised by how small the single origin coffee was, but after we tasted it we understood. It was rich and dark and tasty! And the cold brew was some of the best I've had in the city. I was sad that I was in a savory snack sort of mood, because their pastries looked soooo good. But we had our hearts set on pizza, so we'll have to find another time to come back for a sweet snack. read more

Let me preface this by saying that I normally go to the location on 40th and Madison and after trying the one on Park Ave S, I will be sticking to 40th and Mad. The service was awful and my drink was made so poorly that I had to have them remake it. When I brought it to the attention of the girl behind the counter, Jaleen, she looked at me like I had five heads and in response to my saying that the drink tasted like it had the wrong milk (I had asked for oat), she answered, "well that's what it says on the cup" in the most snarky tone of voice, one that had I used that with any of my clients, I would have been fired on the spot. The gentleman who took over for her, whose name I sadly did not get, was wonderful and made sure I was satisfied with the new drink before I had left.
