From the moment we walked in, the hostess gave us a warm welcome, and we were seated right away. It took our server a little while to get to our table, but she arrived with waters in hand, which was appreciated. We started with the fried green tomatoes. They were good, though I've definitely had better back home in Houston. For my entrée, I ordered the Badass Bacon Plate, and it absolutely hit the spot. Everything on the plate was delicious, from the thick-cut slab of bacon to the perfectly cooked scrambled eggs. I especially appreciated that the eggs were seasoned before cooking, something I don't often see at restaurants, and it really made a difference. The hash brown casserole was also fantastic and tied the whole meal together. My brother ordered the fried chicken biscuit and thoroughly enjoyed every bite. Although our server was clearly very busy, the restaurant had a great team approach. Other staff members checked on us, refilled drinks, and made sure we had everything we needed, so we never felt neglected. Overall, it was a great dining experience with delicious food, friendly hospitality, and excellent teamwork. I would definitely recommend Phoebe's Diner if you're looking for a satisfying breakfast or brunch in Austin.

The service was so fast and friendly I thought they were trying to prank me.Here is the breakdown of how they stole my heart: Phoebe Benedict: The poached eggs were so perfect they looked sculpted by Michelangelo. The hollandaise belongs in a museum. Biscuits and Gravy: Fluffier than a cloud and smothered in gravy that tastes like a warm hug from a Southern grandma. Pure, unadulterated comfort food. Side of Bacon: This isn't just bacon. It is a thick-cut, crispy masterpiece. Pretty sure it's the best bacon in Austin, if not the entire universe. Pro tip: Get on their Yelp Waitlist early unless you enjoy staring longingly through the window at strangers eating your future meal. 10/10 will be back to eat my weight in pork products.

Fresh, hot and hand battered. Generous serving. Chopped steak was good. Mashed potatoes had the little chunks the way I like. Nice small town diner ambience. Service was good. I think Chicken Fried Steak is one of the best defining dishes of Southern cuisine. I think Chicken…read moreFried Steak is an item that has kept the people of the Southern United States together regardless of interests, jobs, intelligence, and opinions. It is a unifying meal of blue-collared and white-collared people alike. It is a food that unifies the vast cultures of the south. There is no debate when there is a Chicken Fried Steak. Soul food and southern food are so severely important to people who were raised in the south because the overall feeling of those cuisines is that it feels like their Grandma is cooking dinner. Now if you look at my Yelp profile picture for a fraction of a second and maybe stereotype a little, you can accurately assume that my Grandma's cooking would fit in the latter and you would maybe wonder if my grandmother knows what seasoning is. If you have had her chili, you would say no. The famous Texan Cafe & Pie Shop in Hutto is a classic Southern diner that is always a perfect pick-me-up meal and is a truest staple of the area. When I first visited Hutto before moving I looked for places to try, and the abundant and sheer quantity of reviews for Texan Cafe made it clear that I had to try it. That was just over a year ago, and I still remember parking my car in the lot across the street and walking into the cozy diner with wood chairs and booths, red tablecloths, and so much decor on the walls it might be a museum, and I felt right about moving to Hutto. I was seated immediately and almost instantly ordered the Chicken Fried Steak smothered with white gravy, of course, with sides of Fried Okra and Mashed Potatoes. It was not long before the beautiful plate hit my table, and I destroyed everything on that plate. When I thought it was over, I was handed the dessert menu that was two full rows worth of pie and other options. I was mesmerized by the length of it and was overwhelmed by the options. I texted my parents to tell them and suddenly I was going back to San Antonio with slices on slices worth of pie for them to have. When my parents came up to help move me in, they wanted to go to the Texan. They were impressed with how great the meal was alongside the pies. Pies that they bought extra of to take back with them to San Antonio. When I started my job, the first meal they took us new hires to was the Texan. I tried their Blue Plate Special and found out that Chicken Fried Pork Chops exist and fell in love with that. When my brother came and visited meeting my parents and me in Hutto, we went to the Texan. We enjoyed their appetizers and everyone had to have a slice of pie. Options for everyone. When a friend came and visited, she took a solo trip to the Texan while I was at work then told me she took the best nap of her life after. My buddy and I decided to go randomly one day after work to try their Hot Pie with Brandy Sauce. That thing is a tank and is worth a visit to try alone. What a sweet creation. When my girlfriend visited me in Hutto, I took her to the Texan and she will randomly text me about how much she misses the pie. I try to get her a slice every time she comes and visits. It is her favorite thing. It is clear to see why it is a favorite to so many because everyone I have taken to the Texan has left a fan wanting to come back. I brought my grandparents home a full Blueberry pie from the Texan Cafe which my grandma told me "was the best I have even since I was a little girl. Not too sweet with a great crust. Just right. A blueberry pie is my favorite." I know this review is less of a review and more of a collection of vignettes of many stories built inside the walls of the Texan Cafe, but that is what is so beautiful about southern hospitality and southern diners. That is why there is so much decor about the extensive history of Texan Cafe and the culture of Hutto on the walls. I went back this afternoon for the first time in a short while, but I find myself continuously impressed by the quality of the food, the efficiency as a whole, and just how welcoming everyone is inside. Their pies are just truly next level. Today, I went for the Chicken Fried Pork Chop Blue Plate Special which is truly heaven sent, potato salad, fried okra, and a slice of their cherry pie. It is a meal you feel blessed to eat and a restaurant you love supporting because of it. Every pie I have had at the Texan is better than any other pie I have eaten. They could be a full time bakery and still be the monument of Hutto. It just happens they have food that warms your heart too. RIYL: Grandma's cooking if it was not dry

At first, my intentions were to share with husband but he wanted his own and enjoyed every bite. It was very crisp and cooked to perfection however the oil could have drained a little longer but still good. We also started with the goat cheese fondue that was delicious but not much of a portion for sharing but with a generous amount of sourdough that accompanied the dip. I had a birthday slice of sticky toffee pudding for my birthday that I've had a few times in the past. In my opinion, it has not been as good as the very first time. Not as moist. Overall, we'd probably return to try other menu options.

Ticked away in a little complex without 79 visibility along with a couple of other places that don't seem to get much traffic either. Finally made our first visit so we could try "the best fish & chips" in the Austin area. I was surprised how big it was, they have a patio, a bar area and lots of tables I was shocked as from the outside it looks tiny. Service was fantastic which was shocking with them closing soon. The service was enough to want me to go back hopefully for us in this area they end up somewhere close by as I know how hard it is to find good workers. Pretzels were good! Onion rings were our favorite! Their version of the Philly was just okay, was very plain with not much flavor hubby didn't even finish half. But the star of the show was the fish and chips. My son was over the moon! Couldn't even finish half of it and he wanted to haha. Sad to see they will be closing their doors but hopefully the owner has something else up his sleeve as they were onto something with this place.

I have eaten in both the College Station and the Bryan version. I totally disliked both of them. * * * I am pleased to say the Round Rock Cotton Patch cafe is better than either of its Aggieland cousins. The Round Rock Cotton Patch is CLEAN. That is frequently not the case in Bryan or College Station. My food was not great. I had a brisket queso. The dish was not well designed. The brisket was lovely - but it all stuck together in one piece. The chips were conspicuously too thin for even for salsa. I couldn't pick up my queso with my cheap superthin chips. Not being able to pick up one's food defeats the purpose of providing chips in the first place. Not that I was missing any kind of big treat. The queso itself didn't taste like much. I didn't die but what I had wasn't great. * Entertainment value was low as well. On TV, two out of the three channels were Cotton Patch's own advertising-itself TV, The landscapes were all standard Texas Highway Department "Texas-Is-a-Lovely-Place-To-Visit-Right-Now". The show didn't make me want to visit any of those places. The frequent ads for Cotton Patch did not make me want to go out and buy Six Cotton Page Gift Certificate cards. I love my friends and family. I know some of the best people in the world. They have not done anything bad enough in this life to justify them being punished with gift certificates from Cotton Patch.
