I sampled four different options and loved them all, with the Flying Buffalo Bourbon Barrel Aged Rocky Road being a standout. The space is inviting, perfect for groups, and offers a laidback vibe where you can actually hear your friends talk--a big plus! Unfortunately, the food fell flat. Out of our group of six, no one was thrilled with their meal, and no one would reorder. I tried the "munchwrap" and couldn't help but think I should've gone to Taco Bell for a Crunchwrap instead. The prime rib Philly dip had potential, but the flavors clashed and lacked cohesion. For the price, we expected much better. This place was really bustling! We really enjoyed it for a chill, easy place to go mid-afternoon. The staff were warm and welcoming. Our waitress was great and made sure we were always topped off with water and beer. The burger and fries were really good too! I felt the portions were big and I was very full after eating. Though it was busy, it wasn't too loud and we could hear each other. Only downside was we used the online menus from our phones and the mobile site didn't show full descriptions of the beers so I couldn't tell what the flavors were. We came into the griffin claw to celebrate my brothers 21st birthday and get his first legal beer! My dad made a comment that all the staff seemed to be having fun and really enjoy working there which is great to see. I love the ambiance here it's very cozy and welcoming. The food was delicious I loved the dip duo app and the loaded tots. None was lacking in flavor! I like the cocktail list here too not just beers. The S'more martini was awesome like dessert in a glass. This place has been a local hit for years and we will continue to come back for the good food and drinks. I have bought griffin claw beer and seltzer to enjoy at home as well and we have always liked to have it around. It's the best place to come after a skate at the ice arena. This place has the best patio in the Birmingham/royal oak area. Tons of tables, cute lights, plants, and fire pits. Every time I go I get the chicken/avocado salad. We 4 dined on a busy Thursday night at 7 pm. When we arrived the pub was buzzing! We sat at the bar while waiting for a table. Despite the activity Griffin Claw never disappoints with the check in process and the restaurant is typically tidy and running smoothly. We were seated in the time quoted and our server, the lovely CHERISH (name on receipt), stopped by and got our drink order. Again, Griffin Claw gets this right every time, within a few minutes a drink order is placed! Soon our dinner order was placed. Food is delivered in a timely manner and Cherish immediately checks back. My burger was undercooked. Cherish apologizes and takes it away and within 10 minutes I had a completely new burger cooked perfectly. I have written other reviews for Griffin Claw. We go back time and again because it is consistently good with service by professionals like Cherish! Hats off to management! read more

They have a great happy hour until 6PM which includes $1 off beers and multiple smaller plates to choose from. Due to weather we sat inside but they have a huge patio and a parking lot behind the building. It's a very chill atmosphere and an easy spot to catch up with friends. Terrible experience with the rude host staff and the manager. Arrived at 5 and told there would be a 10-15 minute wait. Checked back in after 20 minutes of waiting, and we were told that it would be at least another 30 minutes since the online waitlist is given priority. Apparently this means that additional folks had been added ahead of us- after we checked in? We were hungry and ordered at the bar- and not 5 minutes later- we got a message that our table was ready. When I said that we had just ordered food and asked if it could be moved to the server/table- both the manager and the hostess made such a big production (eye rolling, waving arms, arguing) we ended up eating some of our food at the bar and taking most of it to-go. One of our favorite spots for outdoor dining in the summer! Their patio is really nice and large, and you might have to wait a little during summer weekends around dinner time. The best burger that I have had at a brewery, or a restaurant this year (or maybe the last 5 years). It had all the pork you could want on top of a nice beef patty and a toasted bun. The fries were plentiful, and cooked amazingly, they were those battered fries. We also tried the fried chicken sandwich and the fried pickles. Both good, we wish the fried chicken would have had lettuce and tomato and more sauce. We went for the Beer pairing that they do with Girl Scout cookies- whcih was pretty cool, and also made me try beers I wouldnt normally try, but really enjoyed. I found I am developing an appreciation for stouts now. Unfortunately, for me, that beer was seasonal and I didnt buy any to take home. read more

It's been some time since I've done a review, but this order warranted one. I have even craving a chicken sandwich, and tried Griffin Claw based on a recommendation. Their chicken sandwich comes with fries, but they are the ones I don't care for, so I opened for coleslaw. I also ordered the soup of the day: cheddar broccoli, but I received chili instead. Let's start with the coleslaw. The appearance looks great, but the taste does not. I'm not one for a vinegar based slaw, give me the creamy slaw all day long. This slaw is a mix of both, there is a cream base towards the bottom, but the vinegar is overpowering! As far as the chicken sandwich, I think -and hope- I just got a wonky breast. The bread/bun was thicker than the chicken breast! It had great flavor, but most definitely was not worth the $16 I paid. I think the pictures speak for themselves. read more

Wow! Just WOW!! My wife and I are from California and we are big brewery people. We love to taste craft beers and anytime we visit a new place we make an effort to scope out the local breweries. We are blessed as California has some of the best craft beers in the country (slightly biased) HOWEVER, Griffin Claw blew us away! Their beer is AMAZING, the selection they offer from ciders, sours, stouts, imperials, pale ales, and double IPA's is amazing. And for them to have an AMAZING tasting Beer in each category is IMPRESSIVE to say the least. To top off this amazing brewery is the FOOD! My goodness!! Never have we been to a brewery where the Beer is impeccable and the Food is just as incredible! My wife and I will most definitely we attending again! read more

I would give it a ZERO! I sat down to an empty bar and it took the bartender 5 minute before he could pry himself away from the waitress. When we ordered lunch I aske simply for a cheeseburger on a GF bun he walked away before I can even finish my order...the food when finally ready sat up on the counter 10 minutes as he continued on with his waitress flirting. He brought the food and shocker it was wrong. I told him so and he told me I was wrong over and over. I told him to write it down next time so we got up to leave as he continued to tell me I was wrong. He kept challenging my son and myself and kept going as we walked out. NEVER again will I go to this place. SAD! No way to treat any customer. read more

How have I lived down the street from the Griffin Claw for years and never reviewed it before? That's easy. You have such a great time you forget what you were doing. It's not Redcoat Tavern legendary yet but they're getting there with a wold class beer selection and solid pub food. There's a long bar and picinic bench seating with a large patio for the summers. The service is average for bars with some eye-candy but they keep the atmosphere family-friendly. read more

Came here during COVID times and they did not disappoint. Each table gets a hand sanitizer spray, menus can be accessed via digital QR code on the napkin dispenser. All staff we're wearing masks and they treated us well like any other customer (I'm Asian). Kudos. We ordered Lone Star and Claw Burger. The patties were substantial, hot and JUICY! Boy was I pleasantly surprised at the fries as well. Seasoned to perfection, fresh out of the frier. Plus I was able to use the leftover fries to sop up the burger juice left on the plate! They also serve house-made beer, lots of variety and very tasty. Nothing better than an iced cold beer with a 10/10 burger.
