As noted by Harry M, Charcoal Chicken & Kabob in the shopping center off Portsmouth Rd. is no more. It is under new management, with a new name and entirely new menu. So a new Yelp entry is in order, is it not? The new business is called Grill Kabob Express, and it's the same ownership (and menu) as the Grill Kabob Express in Fairfax. My wife and I have had carry-out dinner here twice in the last two weeks, and have been generally happy with our meals. For me, Famous Kabob on Liberia is still my go-to Kabob spot in Manassas, but the wife prefers Grill Kabob Express more because they do have more options on the menu. My wife prefers beef kabobs, but Famous Kabob's only beef option is the ground beef kabob, which she doesn't like. GKX offers a couple of options for beef and the wife loves their beef tikka kabob, which she ordered both times. She's one of those types that finds something she likes and sticks to it. I'm more of a menu explorer. As a lamb lover, I really enjoyed the lamb chops I got the first time I visited. Four well-cooked lamb chops with awesome rice for $16.99 is hard to beat. They also include the obligatory side "salad" and naan, but also throw in a side. It's typically the chick peas unless you ask for something else ... but that would be silly because the chick peas are AWESOME. The second time I wanted to the Soltani Kabob (ground beef and filet kabob) but they said they were out. (They probably ran out of the ground beef, since it was close to closing) So I went with the lamb tikka this time. The chunks of lamb were plentiful but a little under-seasoned and over-cooked for my taste. The naan was a tad too chewy too. I enjoyed and was happy with the meal, but I prefer the lamb (and the combo options) at Famous more. They lose points for not having any sumac (that I could see) for the rice, but gain points for their delish Afghan salad. It's minced cucumber, tomato, and onion, mixed with some lemon juice, olive oil, and seasoning. It's awesome to add to some meat on the naan, but also great plain. I was stuffed but still couldn't stop eating it! The wife and I are happy to find a new kabob place in town with some different options. If we're on this side of M-town and craving kabobs, we're going to GKX. read more

Great kabob. They have a lunch special that is only $7 from Mon-Fri 12-3 PM. That includes a generous portion of rice, your choice of chicken or beef, and a small salad. Bread is only a dollar more. Everything I've had here is great and consistently good. The place is a bit small for dining in but I've never not been able to find a seat. read more

This place is great. I'm here at least 3 times a week. Always clean and always "fully cooked" unlike some previous comments stated.

Tried this place for the first time tonight with my hubby, they give you a good amount of food, neither of us could finish our portions! The only thing i wasn't a fan of is the "brown"rice it had a different flavor than i was used to, but the rest was super good... we would come back again! read more

Ive been to this place multiple times and recently went in here with family we were greeted very poorly by the OWNER, Food came out raw. . after confronting the owner about it he doesn't apologize or anything takes it back puts it on the grill brings the food all smushed. Overall pricing, food, and customer service was HORRIBLE. Never going back again. Stay away from this hole in the wall the guy is hungry for money he might feed you anything... newbie doesn't even deserve to go work as a busboy. read more

Came here for lunch on a Saturday morning, ordered the combo koobideh which included one chicken and one beef skewer with a salad, two kinds of rice, chick peas and bread. About 10 minutes later my food was ready and it smelled and looked amazing. Ended up only eating half and taking the rest home to the wife. She had it and liked it too, she preferred the beef to the chicken and loved the bread. I'll be back if I'm ever in the area. Try the Mantoo. Its pretty great compared to most other places serving it( but never as good as home cooked). Its delicious from this place. Warm and soft, just melting on your tongue, with cute little vegies and sauce presented in a criss cross fashion. I mean fashion too. Try any kabob and they serve it with uptown style. And very friendly people too! They need more advertisement to say the least. Its halal too, of course :) mashallah! The only thing decieving: I wouldnt call it express food like fast food. The #20 is the greatest, not a big fan of tilapia but best believe I will consume it here. This place is somewhat hard to find but well worth the search; normally I would order carry out but today decided to eat in and it felt like home!!!! Grill Kabob Express was a little hard to find but I am glad I did. It is most easily accessed off Business 234 by Portsmouth Rd. It is in the same plaza as Aldi and Party Co. I have gotten take out from here several times and have been happy each time. The place is small with about 6-8 tables available for dining in. I have tried the beef kobidah, chicken tikka, and the gyro platter. All have been very good. The meat is marinated well and the rice flavorful. The tzatziki sauce is also very good. I thought the salad was going to be plain but it does have a very tasty olive oil/lemon dressing. I want ground meats cooked well done but prefer that other cuts not be severely overcooked as most other kabob places do. Grill Kabob Express does not disappoint. The Chicken Tikka was completely cooked but was still moist and tender. The gyro platter sandwich was very good and the biggest surprise was the fries somehow remained crisp on the way home. I did not expect such good fries from a kabob place. This is my go to kabob place for take out in Manassas. read more

this place sucks. i call ahead of time to order never having been here before. i tell him I want a chicken and white rice meal. i get there and get ready to pay $11 & change when i see the lunch special with $5.99. I say to the guy why am i paying almost $12 when you have a lunch special until 3pm. He tries to tell me that the chicken is different and all that crap. I just wasn't having it. The food sucks and obviously they are crooks trying to get me to pay double for a meal. Moby Dick is like 100 times better than this hole in the wall and even there chicken kabob meal is less expensive than this BS. i didn't even want to give it one stars but i couldn't post my review without putting up a star. read more
