Ate here for the first time tonight with a party of four. Nice ambiance. Ample parking. I had several happy hour priced appetizers--soft pretzels and filet tips egg rolls. Plus a bowl of unique sausage and squash soup--unique and yummy, For an entree, I went with the meat loaf, potatoes and carrots. Everything tasted delicious and I wound up taking some home. Wife had the sesame ginger salad with chicken and loved it--a meal by itself. Service was friendly and attentive. Prices are reasonable for what you get. My wife and I paid the Grillsmith in Sarasota another visit for dinner this evening. This restaurant is a great place for a meal. Our server tonight was Jilyan and she did an amazing job. We were quite pleased with her service. She was friendly and professional and knew just when to come see how we were doing. Her knowledge of the menu was impressive and made excellent suggestions to enhance our experience. The food, as always is very well prepared. My wife has the Monday special, which consisted of choices for an appetizer, entry and desert. The choices were well thought out and would appeal to whatever tastes you may have. My wife had meatloaf and said it was really delicious. I had the Fillet Egg Rolls, which are amazing, and the Ribeye. The ribeye was cooked to perfection, and I had the Port Wine sauce add on which was very nicely done. For desert my wife had the Chocolate Decadence cake as part of her special. I have the pineapple Upside-down cake, which is a single serving cake with a pineapple ring and cherry on the top. Vanilla Ice Crean accompanied it along with an awesome caramel sauce with candied macadamia nuts. The only word I can use to explain it would be magnificent!! We greatly enjoyed our visit with great service and food quality that is very high value and delicious in every way. My husband and I had eaten at Grillsmith twice in the previous week and food and service were excellent... 5 star. On the third occasion last night when we brought 4 friends, we were really disappointed and so were they. First, I had raved about the warm bread sticks which we did not receive. We ordered drinks and appetizers which were good. The dinner salads which were the wedge were served at the same time as main course so gave them no time to eat or have a cold dinner. Two dinners with salmon and salmon on one order was not cooked after being ordered well done and mine was ordered medium and thickness uniform but not cooked on one end. They did take and recook but we were already almost finished when we could get anyone's attention. We received no water refill and no one to ask. The waitress was extremely busy and did apologize, but was not a good impression after we had raved about our previous experiences. read more

Every time I come to a Grillsmith, I expect to enjoy it. They have an awesome menu, seasonal specials, a great happy hour, and it's a nice place. However, outside of a yelp event I attended at a Tampa Grillsmith, my adventures in Grillsmithing have been a disappointment. Unfortunately, the new Sarasota Grillsmith did not break the mold. Came here with my mom specifically because she wanted a place that was quiet so we could talk. Isn't that a fun thing for your mother to say to you? I thought Grillsmith had a loud bar but the rest of the restaurant was quieter. Either the Tampa locations are set up differently or I'm old and can't remember jack sh**, because this place was loud as...well, something very loud. We were shouting at each other the whole time. So anyway, we show up and we're sat within the 15 minute wait period but then we sat for another 15 minutes. Showed up before happy hour ended but by the time our waiter took our order, it was after happy hour ended. He did stop by and apologize for the wait and said he'd be right back, but "right back" was another 10 minutes. Anyway, he made up for it by giving me a happy hour drink anyway, but he was clearly too busy (in fact, when he apologized again for the wait and we told him it was fine, he started mumbling about how it wasn't fine and how awful he felt and while I felt bad, I also could have done without the depressing start to our meal). I went with their seasonal pork chop which came with seasonal veggies (squash) and a veggie purée (basically a mash potato using something other than potatoes). The chop had a walnut (maybe almond?) and cranberry chutney and a balsamic glaze. The picture and description sounded wonderful but what came out was about as mediocre as it gets. The photo of the dish looked bright and colorful and warm, but what came out was gray and brown. And yes, I know the photo never looks like the dish (ever see a commercial for a Big Mac? How many actual Big Macs look like that). Nevertheless, they could have tried. The chop was cooked right but the flavor was non existent. It was like they knew how to cook the chop but they prepped the glaze and chutney to death. Really really disappointing. I'll admit my drink was awesome. I forget what it was called, but it was a bourbon drink with lemon and I think a rosemary simple syrup. Anyway, came with a single large ice cube (that's how you do it, son!) and was the highlight. So maybe the trick is to just come for happy hour (or yelp events). We continued to have server issues. Other tables got bread service, we never did. He checked on us once our food came out (20 minutes after we ordered) but when I asked for the check, it was another 15 minutes until it arrived. For a menu that looks as awesome as this one, Grillsmith needs to do a much better job in execution and service. Until they do, I think I'm done giving them chances. read more

Sometimes you go out and just try a new place to eat. Definitely on the edge, we were out to try this newly opened restaurant. The ambience was nice. Lots of TVs with sports being broadcast. The place was packed and we had a difficult time just finding a parking space. That sets the tone... Expectations of an over the top experience based upon previous yelp reviews, we were to say the least, disappointed. With no reservation on a Saturday night at 6:30 we were seated at a hightop within 30 minutes. They text you when your table is ready, a nice service. Coming in under the wire, we just made happy hour, which goes until 7 PM. My wife enjoyed the pretzel and dip. We also had the flat bread which is basically their version of pizza. We had it margarita style, which is basil and tomato. Sauce and crust were average. For my main course I had the meatloaf it was paired with mashed potatoes and spinach. The gravy was delicious but a little on the salty side and the meatloaf was not ideal because it seem to have a lot of crusty parts to it. Overall it was not a hit. Now let's get to the service... This really missed the mark. Super slow. No refills on our drinks. Long wait for our check. Incorrect price on our check. I know this restaurant is new and they still need to work the bugs out. Only 5 in the state and Sarasota has one now! Fantastic happy hour menu with $6 martinis and $5 bar bites. Excellent portions with friendly local servers who have experience. Already running smoothly with all the tables and bar area full. Plenty of locals socializing on this Friday night. Casual friendly interior with warm woods blends perfectly with the lighting and the new windows makes it brighter and feels larger than it actually is. Large bar area with high tops and booth seating. The service is friendly and experienced which always helps a new location build happy customers. But the food is really the star of this restaurant. We started with filet egg rolls which served with a horseradish sauce and a soy sauce. We both thought the horseradish sauce complemented the egg rolls best. The pub pretzels were soft, hot and with just enough salt to fully compliment the delicious beer cheese side. Two pretzels perfect for 2. I ordered the side Napa salad which was a perfect portion to share which I did. The raspberry vingerette dressing was delicious. For dinner I went with the pork tenderloin which comes with 2 sides. I asked for the au gratin potatoes and seasoned veggies. Perfect dish. If you appreciate Cajun seasoning, then this pork tenderloin is the dish for you. It was such a lovely dinner and I quickly found myself quite full and unable to get dessert. Next time for sure. Totally making this one of our best happy hour spots. read more

Really pleased with this place! They have a great menu with tons of options. The pub pretzel appetizer is a MUST. It comes with a semi-spicy beer cheese fondue that was to die for. We also had the pad Thai flatbread which I thought was an interesting dish... super tasty though. For entrees we enjoyed the bourbon salmon salad and Grillsmith burger. They also do a lot of daily specials; we went on a Tuesday and got 1/2 off bottles of wine. Definitely worth giving this place a try! read more

So sad to see how far this once excellent restaurant has fallen. This used to be our "go-to" steak and happy hour spot a couple of years ago. Took a hiatus and came back last night for the first time in 3 years. It's not the same place. First of all, we were told that three out of the five featured Spring menu items on the menu were not available. Then, I ordered a Habernero Margarita--a signature drink featured on their menu--tequila out of stock. Strike 3 and 4. We used to really enjoy the steak here--top shelf--genuinely 40 day aged, prime steak--well-marbled and we could cut it with a fork. Ordered the $45 40-Day aged Rib-eye last night. Yuck. Tough as nails, full of fat and tasteless. This was not a 40 day aged piece of prime steak. You can get a better steak at Walmart. Time to take down the sign in front of the restaurant. I'm a meat man, and this was neither prime, nor aged. I hate a lying restaurant. Featured vegetable--asparagus- that we ordered was substituted without notice for a few pieces of squash and zucchini. No notice or option for a substitute--just told "they changed it out." Bread sticks ordered and never came. Bartenders attitude sucked. Vibe was awful. At six O'clock a few years ago, this place was packed and ten-deep for walk-ins waiting for a seat. Last night--a Saturday--you could sit anywhere you want. When a restaurant is out of half of their menu-dishes on a Saturday night--it's on the slide down. I would have had a better meal at Longhorn's where I have never eaten before, but I'm sure is capable of delivering at least a mediocre meal. It truly makes me sad to see such a great restaurant decline as far as it has. I will not return. The food is an awful as the service and for some reason, all three of my family members had diarrhea today. They're selling sub-par food, perhaps even old food. If you can't deliver your menu items on a Saturday night, you are finished as a restaurant. Current GM is a jerk. In my opinion, Grillsmith is going out of business and probably is just selling old food to whomever will eat it. RIP Grillsmith. We have fond memories of what you used to be. You were a jewel. We stopped by at Grill Smith Sarasota spontaneously-it was too rainy to walk on the beach so we decided to go out for a drink and a bite. Place was pretty packed, at mid June on a Thursday afternoon the parking lot was about half full by 5pm. However we were seated right away. Service was fast and courteous. We ordered the happy hour special drinks. I ordered the smoked old fashion,it was strong but tasty and made the way it spoused to-served on smoking hickory wood tray. We only ordered appetizers,but it was plenty! My friend ordered the chicken gorgonzola flat bread pizza.It was delicious,but it wasn't really flat... I ordered the Spicy Thai Shrimp.It was scrumptious! Prices were reasonable. By the time we finished the parking lot was filled,pretty popular restaurant around locals. read more

Totally enjoyed our meal at Grillsmith Sarasota. Food was delicious, I had carribbean blue crab soup, chicken carbonara and key lime pie. One of my guests had the cod tacos, Parmesan fries and a crème brûlée, the other guest enjoyed a special of grilled mahi with mashed cauliflower, mashed potato and to finish it off, bananas foster. We had delivery from here last night and wow, everything was incredible. The Caribbean pumpkin crab bisque was phenomenal. My son loved his flatbread. The pasta carbonara was spot on. My wife meant to order the BBQ pulled pork sandwich and must of hit the flatbread on accident but it was a meant to be - absolutely the best! As seen here after two slices were already devoured. I am surprised at how much I like Grillsmith. I have now been here 3 times over the last 2 months. I was expecting decent but typical chain restaurant quality food. This is MUCH better than that. The atmosphere is stylish and inviting with lots of wood and stone. Everyone of the employees I've encountered has been especially nice and they genuinely seem to enjoy their work. William at the bar is fantastic. My #1 favorite so far are the blackened wings. I'm not certain how they are prepared but they are crispy without being greasy. Just the right amount of bite to the seasoning. The wedge salad is great with real fresh bacon as well as the insalata caprese and steakhouse wedge. I really liked my burger along with the jalapeno mac n cheese. I enjoyed the cajun shrimp & chicken pasta but I would prefer it to be a little bit thicker / saucier. They have an extensive liquor selection as well as a nice number of craft beer options. All in all, a wonderful place to eat or drink. I will definitely be back. read more

The food was a bit underwhelming. I will note, I came in around 8:30p and due to COVID they're now closing at 9p. So, it was nice of them to not turn us away. They had good spaced out seating. We were sat ALL the way at the end by ourselves, which at first I liked but then it was very hard to get our server's attention. He only came once as we were getting our food and at the end to ask if we wanted dessert. I tried flagging him down so many times for a drink and he would never even look over. As for the food, it was just okay. I had the Coca Cola ribs with Mac & cheese and carrots. The sauce was great but the ribs were burnt and overcooked. The meat was not tender or juicy.
