I was so excited to finally eat at Punjabi burrito today when I discovered they were closed! Annoyed I decided to try another burrito place, namely Grillys. I was happy to see a decent selection of vegetarian burritos, but I was not happy with the actual product. I got the vegetable veggie with guacamole, brown rice and no beans. I know it may sound boring, but its usually very tasty, but for a few reasons it was lacking this time around. For starters it was cold and the tortilla wasn't cooked at ALL. I do not like raw tortillas for my burritos, nor do I like them falling apart as mine was. Also, the guac was bland and so weer the veggies, even a little lime woulda helped my burrito out. Also, there was sooooo much rice that it completely overshadowed the veggies. Also, they charge for chips! On a positive note the service was decent and the prices were affordable. There's only seating outside and you order at the counter, those aren't necessarily bad I am just letting you know. I have been here many times, as I am a MV resident, and there are limited options for decent Mexican food without driving to San Rafael or the City. I usually get a burrito or enchiladas, and they are reliably ok, but not amazing. On Saturday, I decided to change up and order the grilled chicken tacos. Good choice -- they were larger than street tacos (2 for $6.50, but enough for a meal without sides), with tasty sauce and well-prepared chicken. This place had a few quirks, like only serving chips in a bag, and charging extra for that, but overall, a decent place to get Mex food in Mill Valley if you don't want to drive out of town. read more

Every time I come into grillys everyone is standing around talking to each other, I'm never greeted or smiled at, I just get stared at with ugly faces until I start to order. We have just moved to Mill Valley and wanted to try our local Mexican restaurant. The star is for ambiance. I ordered a burrito and it was extremely bland and hold. The tortilla felt like it had just come out of the fridge. The steak was made of large chunks that weren't that soft. And, this is the first Mexican restaurant that I've been too that doesn't have hot sauce!! First and last visit. I believe the owner has done a good job cornering the high school market. read more

Authentic Mexican Food? No. Really Good? Yes!! I love this place! I get the steak burrito with shrimp added to it and its fantastic. The salsa that comes with the chips is super good. I came from out of town looking for something good to eat before we went on a hike through the woods. We should have done our homework before coming to eat here. It's a gluten free and no flavor. I was disappointed in how my burrito tasted, it was big but plan who knew you could make a bad burrito. After I first got my burrito I was looking for like a salsa bar and there was none? I thought that was wired right away. Then I began to eat it and then I really needed something, I started looking for a salsa bar again. They really didn't have one. We decided to have Grilly's cater our daugther's birthday party after having truly enjoyed their burritos at a friends birthday party a month prior. To avoid any confusion, I went to Grilly's to order in person. Estuardo assisted me with the order and that went smoothly. Five days prior to the event, I phoned Estuardo to increase the size of our order (as the size of the party had dramatically increased). He stated that he was with a group of people and that he would be available after 4pm. I phoned at 405pm and was told that Estuardo left for the day around 2pm. Weird. The following day, I was told that Estuardo was not working and to call back the next day, which I did. Again, Estuardo informed me that he was busy and needed to talk "later". I phoned back after 2 hours and finally spoke with Estuardo. After requesting the increased order, Estuardo angrily stated, "This is the last time you are allowed to make any changes in your order!" Totally bizarre. I thought he must have me confused for someone else since I had been very friendly (despite the challenges contacting him) and the was the only tie I had ever changed the order. Additionally, why would you mind making more money on a catering job if you know days in advance of the job itself? On the day of the event, my husband went to pick up the order at 1045am, when he was "greeted" by Estuardo who said, "I told her five times on the phone that the order would be ready at 11am!" Now I was convinced he had me confused with someone else because he told me once. Besides, it was 1045am! My husband obviously sat and waited the whole 15 minutes. The order itself was fine, although my husband forgot one of the bags in the car and when I called to ask about the additional portion of the order, Estuardo literally hung up on me! I have never experienced such bizarre, unprovoked, lack of professionalism from any business. Unfortunately, although their burritos are very good and their salsa is awesome, I will never have Grilly's cater one of our parties again. read more

Yum! they know how to grill their meat here. I usually get the steak super burrito. Meat is marinated well and taste so good. If its sunny its a good place to eat there because there is only seating on the outside. Chilly days are okay if you sit by the outside heaters. read more

This place is satan's asshole. I grew up in mill valley and its legit the worst fucking Mexican food ever. It's way over priced, the cheese is never melted. They keep the guacamole and salsa ice cold and when it mixes with the other ingredients, it creates a Luke warm puddle of shit. They always get your order wrong. The food is pretty good - basic, well-flavored, nicely sized portions. Seating can be had in the small back room, the outdoors patio or the busy main room. Parking can be an issue - not much street parking and the shared area is tight. The biggest problem is, as others have stated, the service can by indifferent bordering on rude. Restaurant staff should be welcoming, upbeat and wanting to prove that they care about their clients. My go-to place for quick take-out. I love their chicken taco salad, although I can never remember exactly what they call it on the menu. Fresh, tasty, served up with a smile. Burritos are great, too. (Don't park in the lot next door ... some builder/construction group? ... they get very cranky, even if you are just picking something up and it's after business hours.) --- Went back this week and got the Mango Chicken burrito (with brown rice) just to mix it up a bit. I think most people have got it right for reviewing this place. It's a fine stop for a post-Mt. Tam hike but I can't give much kudos beyond that. The service was easy (when I went you just ordered at the window) and the food was pretty average. I had the chicken quesadilla and it was on the questionable side... In my opinion, quality of chicken is the difference between good and great Mexican and this place served dark meat chicken. This is 2007, no? Just say no to dark meat. And with only chicken and cheese, it was a bit on the bland side... how about some onions or peppers? Burritos looked a little better so maybe try one of those. Many years ago, I was a huge Grilly's fan. Great flavors, good value, friendly service. My kids really liked it. However, perhaps about 4 years ago, it underwent a dramatic shift. TOO MUCH SALT! The beef simply became too salty, and sort of stringy. But the kids still liked it, so I agreed to take them once in a while... We placed a phone order last Thursday afternoon, about 1:30, not a busy time. I'm told "we'll see you soon." I got there about 15 minutes later, and the place is empty. I go to the counter and give my name. He says they don't have an order for me. I said something like "really, you've gotta be kidding me..." I'm told "Don't talk to me like that..." No apology, no regrets for not having my order, nothing resembling an iota of customer care and service. I'm done... the food is mediocre at best and the service.... what service... read more

I absolutely loves Grillys! Became obsessed with their MV location 10 years ago then I moved to Fairfax and it was all over with. They put crack in their taco salad dressing I'm convinced, sometimes I crave it! I like his you can do chicken or tofu and they are both delicious. Also they use real jack cheese on their nachos! Where else are you gonna find that? I just wish they had more seating so I didn't have to hang with the homeless people on the stairs. read more

A bit hungry after a hike, we stopped at Grilly's for a quick bite. My burrito wasn't bad... got the grilled chicken with pinto beans. Pretty much what I would call average. Wish their salsa was more of the Pico de Gallo variety than the roasted kind, but it was okay. Chips and salsa totally not worth it for the price (think they charged us almost $5 for medium salsa and bag of chips!!) Lots of vegetarian options on the menu... and outside seating only with not a lot of sunlight so best to stick close to the heat lamps. read more

This is my favorite Mexican take away in Southern Marin. The food is always good, especially the burritos, enchiladas and quesadillas. Prices are reasonable if not starting to reach sit down restaurant levels. The only negative experience I had here was when they forgot to activate my buzzer. Why do I like Grilly's? Because I went to TAM HIGH, dammit! And if you don't have a car to get to High Tech Burrito (nothing special, btw) and you're craving a burrito before your two CTE periods start, this is the best place in the MV to get it.
