I don't usually write reviews but felt I had to in this case. Everyone is quick to ask for a tip. You know, you order something and they flip the pad asking for a certain percentage. This place Is counter service and I place a regular tip on my card thinking that since my family and I are the only ones in the restaurant, at least they'll bring us our food. Wrong! Dude took his time to walk outside and alert us that our food was ready (to be picked up by ourselves). Makes me think twice about tipping at the counter when ordering. This is the Rock to "what to do?" dinner nights for me. This place is famous for their grilled chicken. The standard is their Grilled Chicken burrito. It is outstanding. Also, known for their healthy Mango chicken burrito with Brown rice, Chicken and Mango Salsa. I used to always just get their Chicken tacos...which is Flour tortillas with cheese melted onto it and then rice, chicken,lettuce, salsa and AND BBQ sauce. I would skip the SAUCE. I am a rice lover. Now I gotta go low carb, they have the most perfect "AUTHENTIC Chicken Tacos." 2 Small doubled Corntortillas with their famous Grilled Chicken, Salsa and Cilantro and Lime wedges. I also order the "Ensalada de Pollo en Caja" Chicken Salad in a box. Sooooo EXCELLENT. The dressing!!. Green Romain lettuce, colorful thin Tortilla strips, cheese,salsa and dressing on the side. They are teaching me Spanish every visit i go. Very nice people. My kids LOVE their Large side of TOFU. It is really good. Also Small side of Chicken thigh..most tasty. I experienced incredibly rude and lazy customer service today. One person was ordering at the first register and two employees were lounging behind the second. Upon walking up to the second register, mistakenly thinking the employees were working, I was first ignored, then rudely told to get to the "back of the line"...what line? Upon walking over to the first register, which by now had cleared, my burrito (I ordered over the phone) was rudely slammed on the counter. The girl working the first register was absolutely kind and professional. However the two men at the second register were awful. I work as a cashier myself so don't think this is some spoiled yuppie complaint. I almost left without the burrito but wanted to uphold my end of the phone contract. First there is a pandemic and restaurants have had to make changes to their business to stay open so let's all be a little more patient and understanding. I do not order on the phone and I had not been until about a few weeks ago when I could walk in and order. Their customer service I think is spot on. This is a fast paced taqueria and now we are all masked and so are they. It is not always possible to understand what we are all saying. Their food is always fresh, hot and good. We are lucky to have them in Mill Valley. The manager takes his job very seriously and is extremely dedicated to pleasing the customer, keeping the place immaculate and producing a very good product at reasonable prices. Behold there are great burritos in your midst. Right under thine noses and nostrils. Thou needeth not wonder into the Mission unless on a pilgrimage. (Book of Beans 1:1) Really, after the steak burrito with habanero salsa went down the food pipe I felt euphoric and increasingly diaphoretic (and a little scared). It wasn't that the pepper was painful on the palate. It was not. It gave a nice slow burn that crescendoed and plateaued (for a good 10 minutes) before slowly dissipating. It was the fact that I didn't have a little handkerchief in my pocket to mop up the sweat dripping down my forehead. I ended up with a piece of paper-towel stuck to my temple from having dabbed it too many times. Oh well. It was for a good cause. The meat is fresh, the produce green and the place is clean. Take that Lord Byron. That really sums up the place. Oh AND the nachos were something out of Tex Mex heaven. Forget paradise. Give me that plate from heaven, heaping with delicious cheese, guacamole and tender morsels of chicken. Damn. I just may have to meander back in a few hours. Who knew? Chipotle can shove it. I hate to be non-PC but this place is the epitome of a white man's Mexican food joint. The food is completely bland with NO flavor!! On the plus side, they have several vegetarian burrito options and the hot salsa was pretty good. Neither my vegetarian burrito, not my friend's Grande chicken burrito had any flavor. The beans were blah and runny. The chips came in pre-packaged plastic bags. Sadly, your better off driving over to Strawberry if you want a decent burrito in Mill Valley. read more

Grillys. Grillys! Grillys? It sounds delicious in every way you say it. When I first moved to the San Francisco Bay Area, I did not notice it for around a year. But then... I had a sudden craving for Mexican food. The year was 2017... and I had just found my own personal heaven. Grillys was my all. The EXTREMELY GOOD taste of authentic Mexican food had ceased my hunger every time I took a bite of their rice, bean, salsa, steak burrito. That was my favorite dish on the menu. But to me, it seemed that the place was WAY underrated. It was more of a take-out place than a "sit down at an extremely undersized table with four chairs" place, and I guess that's because they were located in such a small building... Grillys was the BEST Mexican food that had ever touched my lips. Soooo that means you can PROBABLY guess that I was pretty damn sad when they closed down. Well- not entirely... My Grillys was located in Marin county, California. And they had another location in Mill Valley, the city right next to Marin. But anyway- they closed down in Marin. I told you that they were underrated! So now, whenever I want a Grillys Burrito, I will have to drive half an hour. Wow. Nice. My biggest issue was that I felt my food lacked a lot of flavor. I got the super burrito bowl with grilled chicken and black beans. I hadn't been to Grilly's in years, and after quite the heavy nap this afternoon, I awoke with a taste for a particular flavor. I knew immediately that it was a bite-- juicy steak, hot salsa, sour cream, guacamole, rice and black beans all tangled up in the perfect bite that is the Grande Steak Burrito from Grilly's. Friday night, thought it might be fun to head down to the Mill Valley location with my cousin, Amanda. It is our New Year's Resolution to wander from the beaten trail of our usual restaurants and eateries. I have typically been to the Fairfax location, which never disappoints, and was pleased when, years later, craving this particular taste, I got exactly what I had craved. The restaurant is on Miller Avenue in Mill Valley. The outside was lit up with cute, little lights and the inside was spotlessly clean, with a festive menu, great music, and families already chowing down on grub. Took maybe 5 minutes to get two, fresh, delicious steak burritos juuuust the way we like 'em. And they were just fantastic. I have never had a bad meal at this or the Fairfax location. I come here for guaranteed excellence when I don't want to worry about whether or not my meal will be good. For 2 Grande Steak Burritos we paid $17. Not cheap, but similar to what you might pay at Chipotle. These burritos are as humongous as Chipotle, but they are better tasting and fill you up all the same without feeling obese. When they are on the phone with you, it seems like they want to get off as soon as possible and this leads to confusion (they are talking VERY fast) and orders that are not accurate. I had an event for 40 people with several different allergies and dietary restrictions--we ordered the monster fiesta, which is supposed to feed 40 people, and it was a home run. We were going to order more food--tamales or enchiladas, but were kindly talked out of it by the Grilly's manager Edwardo. He insisted that the monster fiesta would surely be enough food. He was more than right. If every one there wanted to heaping plate fulls, I'm certain there would have been more left over. We had them include the ingredients for the salad in separate containers, which was perfect for us. Every one was able to eat according to preference and dietary restriction, and eat a lot. I made a burrito bigger than a small dog. I slapped spoonfulls of beans on the plate of my mother in law. There was salsa dripping down the side of Peter's mouth. I love Grilly's! I've been eating here at least 3 times a month for the last couple of years due to working in close proximity, and I still haven't gotten tired of it. Super consistent quality and great prices! While it may not be the most "authentic" Mexican food out there, it is true to the California style and super tasty. I recommend their chicken lime soup, chicken taco salad, as well as any burritos on offer. The habanero salsa adds a nice kick to anything you order, and they make all their salsas in-house. I'm not sure what some of the other reviewers did to get the customer service they received, but the folks who work there are awesome. The manager Estuardo is a great guy and he seems to do a good job keeping his employees happy and motivated. Treat these people like humans and they'll do the same and more for you. I just wanted to order a kids burrito over the phone and the guy who picked up was just RUDE! He hung up on me TWICE!! I was finishing my order and when my little sister changed her mind to "no salsa" in her burrito, he already had hung up on me. So I called AGAIN and he put me on hold for a long time, so finally when he answered I said "I just called, I just wanna say no salsa in the burrito please". I have never had a bad thing to say about Grilly's until now...this is my favorite Mexican restaurant, I recently moved from Marin to Sonoma County and was really craving Mexican so my boyfriend and I decided to drive down to visit my mom, and go to Grilly's. They stated that they closed at 8:30, we got here at 8:06 and they told us that they were closed. I told them that their website says 8:30. I have gone to this restaurant many times but had the worst experience last night with the manager. This is supposed to be a family friendly restaurant but do NOT go there is you expect to be treated nicely. The manager told my behaved children to "shut up" and when I said I wouldn't return because of the service his response was "good". First off, I am a strict parent when it comes to restaurant behavior. The children were all seated and talking, not yelling. He couldn't care less about the community that supports him and keeps him in business. After this very weird exchange, several other patrons said to me that he was out of control and had recently gotten into arguments with him as well. They agreed that the children were well behaved and the manager's rude attitude was not deserved. I would highly advise to AVOID this resturant if you are parents looking for a family family restaurant. read more

Not sure why a casual burrito shop that serves food in a plastic basket does not allow dogs on their outdoor patio seating. That restriction, plus how rudely I was told of their policy the second I stepped on to the patio, will keep me from ever returning whether I have dog in tow, or not. Grilly's - Your food is not that good - I was only attempting to dine with you because I had my dog with me. Grilly's gets 4 stars, because after years of passing it by, I gave it a try today and was pleasantly surprised. My brother gave it the thumbs up, telling me he eats there instead of High Tech (the Burrito that Marin kids grew up with,) but he's kind of a yuppy so I don't really trust his recommendations some times. I had a grande chicken burrito and was impressed by its girth. They don't put cheese in their burritos, which is, as far as I'm concerned, also pleasant.
