We stopped at Grilly's for a quick lunch today and it was okay. Overall not bad for a fast-food type lunch, but nothing special. My burrito lacked flavor and there wasn't a salsa bar to help fix that. The chicken was good, the steak tasted a little like it had been sitting around too long, and the rice was soggy. I saw a quesadilla being made and I wish I had changed my order, it looked delicious. Serving sizes were good for the regular burrito. On a positive note, the service was great (as others have mentioned). The man at the register was all smiles and the cook was fast (we could watch him work) and we didn't have to wait long. Because you could look through a window into the kitche, you could clearly see how clean and organized it was. There was plenty of seating outside, and lots of shade, so that was an additional plus. I read the positive reviews of Grilly's before going and was enthusiastic to try the place. My enthusiasm disappeared as soon as I began interacting with the woman behind the counter. This "order-taker" was one of the most angry, unprofessional, negative service employees I have ever encountered. She was rude to my wife, my children, and myself. I hope she was simply having a bad day, because otherwise, Grilly's needs significant help. She messed up my order, did not direct me to more appropriate orders (our food was redundant) and she was literally shooing us away despite the lack of a line. My wife was about to leave when I paid the bill (which was also wrong). So, having survived "Ms. I need a new career", I was even more disappointed when three hours later, my dinner returned with a vengeance. Big D, Montezuma's Revenge....call it what you will. It's a good to-go place where you can get a $6 burrito - which for Mill Valley, is hella cheap and not much else. Fast, fast, fast...if that's what you want and good food. Since within walking distance (and I mean, pretty much right next door walking distance) from my work, I will find myself there for lunch every now and then. The place is pretty good in terms of quality and service. The food is generally fairly tasty and are served in large portions. The salsa could definitely be spicer, but overall I'm not complaining. Right now, my current favorite is the mixed veggie quesadilla. The fresh veggies are roasted just right and it's the perfect amount for lunch. I wish that sour cream and guacamole wasn't an add on. Adding that on is a bit more and the prices are already in the moderate range but it's not going to kill your bank account . Overall, it's the kinda place you'd go to if you just want some good Mexican food. It's not incredible but it's reliable (and that's why I gave it 4 stars instead of 3.) I was raised in Mill Valley, and I started eating Grilly's AMAZING chicken quesadillas while attending Tam High School. I moved back to Marin after college and never really made it back into Grilly's until about a month ago. Because the Mill Valley location has been expanding in leaps and bounds, I though that it would be indicative of their success due to their amazing food. WRONG. I went to Grilly's on a weeknight to grab some beef tacos before heading home to study. The place was busy even for a weeknight, and the staff was extremely nice and helpful. Thus, everything was good until I got my food: YUCK! Yes, the food is fresh and seems to be cooked with good health in mind, which I fully appreciate, but you don't have to sacrifice flavor for fresh and healthy. The beef tacos, despite having salsa and avocado were absolutely tasteless. I think cardboard must taste better than those tacos did. Perhaps I am spoiled because my boyfriend is part Mexican and his family makes amazing, traditional mexican fare, but good people of Mill Valley, you cannot think this food is tasty!! I can make better mexican than this and I'm a Jew from Marin. My only hope is that I just had the only two bad tacos that were served all night, but I can't say that I will be returning any time soon. read more

Grilly's has pretty good tasting tacos and burritos with great fresh tasting ingredients. HOWEVER, at least every other time I have placed a to-go order which is almost always how I order from them, they ALWAYS forget to put something that you ordered in the bag! OR they get the burrito wrong and it's missing something inside like the chicken! OMG it is so frustrating!! Last night I called in my order as usual and ordered an original veggie burrito and added chicken. I ordered two actually and a side of rice and beans. I get home start biting into my burrito and after the second bite I am wondering where is the chicken! They didn't put any in. I ordered a side of rice and beans for my granddaughter and they forgot to give me rice! This kind of thing happened so frequently with Grilly's in the past that about a year ago, my husband and I decided not to go there anymore. And we hadn't. This year, we thought we'd give it another try. We live in Mill Valley and it's very convenient to call in and pick up. They are always super quick and maybe that is why the order gets messed up. They are rushing and forget stuff. Every time I called in they really rush you through the order asking immediately after you say something they respond, " is there anything else," "is there anything else". Even before you can get the words out of your mouth they are asking "is there anything else" It just seemed weird. Anyway, I can understand if this kind of thing happens a couple times but it's more like every other time. There is nothing more infuriating than when you order something and it comes out wrong and you are at home and there's nothing you can do about it. I always thought this place was a burger joint and when I used to go on long runs I would trot by feeling superior to those gluttons sitting there shoveling down burgers and fries. I was surprised to learn they actually serve Americanized Mexican food! What a weird name for a Mexican joint. It was hot as a mug yesterday but we decided to walk down to Joe's for a taco. Halfway there, we realized it would be incredibly hot in there and would prefer to sit outside so we changed course and headed to Grilly's. (FYI: Grilly's only has outdoor seating, but its covered) I had an original vegetarian burrito with corn and roasted red peppers, lettuce, pinto beans, salsa and a TON of rice. They definitely use a lot of rice as a cheap filler and they aren't fooling anyone. I had to dissect the thing to unrice it. Annoyo! But it was a good choice for a hot day and tasted pretty healthy. The corn would have been better roasted IMHO. Their prices are fair though, around $5.50 for a burrito, add $1 for avo, $1 for chips. But a medium sized salsa was $3.75! What the heck. No beer which is too bad because a cold beer and a burrito sitting outside on a hot day would be amazing. That new plastic tent they have is pretty good but sort of has a greenhouse effect - wish they would remove the sides and let the breeze blow through! read more

First restaurant in Mill Valley I tried. The interior is really aesthetically interesting and I wish I would have parked myself in their outside food area to check it out. It's connected to the 'inside' but you get the view of the street. Anyway, I had the chicken bbq burrito-which was good considering the meat was fresh tasting and not stringy as some places can be. It was ok, considering I'm spoiled by living in San Diego and experiencing a lot of Mexican food. I would probably come again to have the steak burrito or quesadilla since I was first tempted by that-but I was curious as to see what bbq would be like in a burrito. Definitily worth it! My love for Grilly's started in high school, which was over 12 years ago. I had their chicken taco salad wrap and it changed my life. I could not eat enough of them. Full disclosure I even worked here in high school so that I could get more chicken taco salad wraps. There is something about the crisp lettuce, with the unique dressing which has a hint of sweetness with the crispy tortilla bites-- yum! Whenever I go back to my old stomping grounds I make sure to visit here and order a chicken taco salad wrap. I don't even think it's on the menu anymore, but they will still make it for you. Grilly's has grown in the past decade or so that I've lived here, and grown well. They used to pack the food with fillers like rice or tortilla chips but they learned their lesson and consistently make really great nachos (my favorite). A lot of people eat outside and inside now but I prefer to take it all on the run. read more

This is our go-to takeout place! We like to call ahead and place an order so that it is ready in 10 minutes for us to grab on the way home. You are given 3 choices of beans (Black, pinto, or refried), and can request brown rice or whole wheat tortilla be used in place of the standard. Also, burritos can be boxed to be eaten salad-style, so you can avoid the wrap. My family LOVES the salsa! Chips are freshly made and then packaged, but always good! If you are not doing a takeout meal, there is both indoor and outdoor seating (with patio heat lamps). I've never encountered rude counter workers. I have been there when it is super busy and it can sometimes take a bit longer to get your food. If you arrive during the lunch rush of the local high school they do have extra workers on hand, so things are speeded up. i don't know if it's because i was super hungry or had just really low expectations of this place...but the chicken grande burrito i had was FREAKIN good. wifey had the steak quesadilla which had an unbelievable amount of delicious melted cheese oozing from the sides. the meat was pretty proportional so that she had a piece with every bite. my chicken grande burrito was delish...normally taquerias skimp out on the guac...yanno, that one chunk of guac in the middle of your burrito and that's it. haha...but my grilly's burrito was different. i had 3 chunks of guac throughout my burrito was was surprising. the food tasted really fresh. the steak in the quesadilla wasn't of highest quality but it did the job. what i really enjoyed was that the stuff wasn't greasy. i guess they have to do that though to please the picky tastes of mill valley. haha. i'm used to the hardcore oil dripping down your face burritos from the mission. haha. i was a little worried about sitting outside because it has been freezing cold out here lately...but the heating thingies did the trick and kept us toasty while we munched on the yumminess. it's nice to see a really good not so typical burrito place in a not so typical burrito type of city. haha. read more

They have good Mexican-inspired cuisine that's quite affordable considering it's Mill Valley. They also have the best vegetarian burritos in Marin! Not just the good ol' r/b/c or mixed veggie, but they actually make vegetarian food that has substance and can hold you over until your next meal. I loved the sauteéd tofu with mixed veggies and brown rice and highly recommend it :) the only reason why I am not giving them a 5-star rating is because they don't drain their tofu before cooking it which makes the burrito fall apart halfway through eating it. read more

They have some of the best chicken taco salad I've eaten. I love going to Grilly's, grabbing a salad and sitting in downtown Mill Valley (on a sunny day, of course). I tried their enchilada today, it was good, but I think enchiladas aren't my thing. Grilly's is also the first place I've ever tried a horchata and i have to say I am a fan. One would think given the pandemic, that businesses would have good customer service at the forefront of their minds. Not true with this place. I am going to echo what others have already said here. There is an extremely rude and mean manager who works there, and he speaks to customers in a shockingly inappropriate way. Consistent, affordable, and tasty. This is usually a quick lunch spot or cheap option for takeout dinner as well. As many others have mentioned, you can't really go wrong with the chicken taco salad or the grande chicken burrito. Their chicken is really good and the best protein option they have in my opinion.
