Jalebi Street has been highly recommended to me by multiple vegetarian and non-vegetarian friends, so I suggested it as the dinner portion of our regular try-all-the-bars-listed-in-this-one-book nights (that night's bar was Zam Zam). We ordered a bunch of fried things and enjoyed it all. Very flavorful and well executed. The friends did not recomend the actual jalebis, but I insisted on ordering one because of the name and really liked it.

Palak paneer, chole bhature, mango lassi

Jalebi Street might be the most authentic Indian restaurant in San Francisco. * Chole bhature (5/5): Soft bhature with well-spiced chole, accompanied by the snap of raw red onion. It felt like I was back in Delhi! * Palak paneer (5/5): So many other places get this wrong, either the paneer quantity is lacking or they don't use mustard oil when making it. Thankfully, Jalebi Street knocked this out of the park. Now, just add makki di roti and I'll be back every weekend! * Vada pav (5/5): To be honest, I'm not the biggest vada pav fanatic, but this is probably the best one I've had outside of India. * Onion kachori (3/5): Good, but nothing to write home about. To be honest, it was a little too spicy, even for me. * Mango lassi (4/5): Not too sweet, with just the right amount of tartness. * Masala soda (4/5): Why is this such a rarity at Indian restaurants in the US when every place back home has this on the menu? It was delicious, but way too expensive (almost 8 bucks). We are definitely going to be back, especially since we committed the cardinal sin of not trying the jalebi at Jalebi Street.

Great find in a neighborhood where I visited just for the music history. Ashbury Haight mean something to me : Cue rockstars living, flower child movement leading up to Monterey pop festival etc. so I was surprised when I found this place. Food was flavorful and the prices surprisingly reasonable. I know I'll be back in the area even if I dnt care about any other neighborhood in SF so I am Definitely coming here.

We snagged a table on Saturday at 1pm. The waiter patiently explained to me what my gluten free options were. I opted for a chaat with potato and yogurt dumplings and chai. I liked how you can taste the spices in chai. Even though the waiter made the chaat less spicy for me, it was still too spicy for me. Thank goodness he brought me some yogurt. We enjoyed the Bollywood music. I have not heard music from Darr in forever so that was a nice surprise. The bathroom could be better. The sink was clogged unfortunately so took one star off.

We had to wait 20 min for a table on Sunday afternoon. It's Delhi street food done right in a casual setting. The decor is upscale with chandeliers but the seating and service is super casual. In fact, I just saw one person handling the tables and a lady managing the check-in. It gets a bit chaotic but overlook that and you will be rewarded with some authentic chaat and Jalebi. Best dishes were Chole bhature, Tikki Chole, Vada Pav and of course the piping hot fresh jalebi! Bedmi puri was nothing special while the Kachori chaat was good. Definitely must try place..

This is what delhi food tastes like - it's excellent!!! This is the closest in taste to a North Indian restaurant. I loved each and every dish here - starting with Raj Kachori which was so crispy, filling and tangy, followed by the aloo tikki chaat - the potato was exceptionally done and the all the flavors married together perfectly. The star was the chole bhature - the softness of the bhature paired super well with the spiciness of the chole (still thinking about it). To top it all, the jalebi was very thinly made with beautiful flavor. I liked the saffron flavor added to the sweetness. Can't wait to go back!

Haight Ashbury's newest Indian restaurant! They're less than a year old and owned by a couple. My friend and I came in on a Tuesday at 6PM and didn't have to wait. There's a big main table, some booths, and then multiple smaller 2 person tables. Bathroom situation was rough; one was broken and the other one upstairs had water leaking, no toilet paper, and a clogged sink. Thankfully, there was a separate sink around the tables for customers to wash their hands. My friend and I split the Delhi Special Chole Bhature (chickpeas were yummy and the deep fried bread was light & airy), Saag Paneer (very heavy & creamy but wished it had a stronger spice kick), and Garlic Naan. I'll definitely be back to try more things!

Got seated on a Friday at 6:30pm with absolutely no wait. We got mango lassis to drink and started with the dahi puri and samosa chaat. Samosa was nice and crispy, with lots of flavor. I preferred it over the dahi puri. For entrees, we got the chole bhature and pav bhaji. Pav bhaji was really good and bread was crispy and buttery. Nice portion size. Food came out quick. The place was lively and decorated well. Would visit again

Loved this spot! I was craving some Indian comfort food and had been dying to have some aloo and puri, and boy did this deliver. I ordered the pani puri, aloo Tamatar curry, Kashmiri kofta curry, lacha paratha, and bhatura. Everything came out piping hot and delicious. The pani puri had the perfect tangy water and crispy puris. The aloo curry was exactly what I had been craving, tangy and spicy. The Kashmiri kofta had the perfect blend of sweetness and spiciness and the koftas were so melt in your mouth soft. Both breads were perfect. Gets super busy, so you may have to wait for a while. Will be back soon!

This felt like a hole in the wall find! Unassuming from the outside, but when you walk in, the place is a lot more spacious than I expected and well kept. Affordable, classic Indian vegetarian only food. We were seated right away for a table of 3 at 7:45pm on a Thursday without reservations. The service was quick and friendly! The bowl size for the masala and lentils may look small/medium but we were very full at the end of our meal. We each got three mains to share family style, with two naans and a roti order as well + a mango lasso + appetizer of Sev dahi puri. The special chole bhature is slightly spicy and it comes with two big airy fried breads. The paneer masala is very tomato based and the black lentils were very good too, LOVED the dahi sev puri - refreshing cold yogurt with a nice crunch. Mango lassi was also nice, smooth, spiced and yogurty. Would def recommend trying for a casual night out!

We went on a random weekday as a debrief dinner, and the restaurant was quite empty. We started with a couple of small plates - the chaat, chole bhature. We got a paneer curry for our main dish. I'd say the yogurt dishes were the best thing here! Nice, refreshing, and a good collection of textures. We ended with the jalebi, which was fantastic! I would go again to try other small dishes and to get the jalebi again.

Visited downtown SF with family and this place really hit the spot after some sightseeing. It was packed but luckily a reservation got us a table fast. They were super busy and it took some time to place the order and get the food. But it was worth the wait. One of the best Chana Bathura I've had in the US. Dahi puri was really good and the jilebi was the highlight. It was priced reasonably for SF as well. If they can speed up the service it would be the cherry on top. Recommend this spot especially since it's pure vegetarian and they were able to have dishes with no garlic for my parents as well.

This place has been on my radar. A friend had tried this place and told me it was legit so I had to try it too. I haven't eaten Indian snacks and street foods before but I love trying different foods and happen to be in the area. I walked in and was immediately seated. The restaurant wasn't too busy so I was able to order without much delay. I ordered the Dahl Sev Puri, Onion Kachori, and Jalebi. The Dahl Sev Puri was my favorite. The cool yogurt topped crispy Puri stuffed with flavorful potatoes and chickpeas, and drizzled with their spicy sweet tamarind and cilantro mint sauces was truly a symphony of flavors and textures in my mouth. I was taken aback, surprised and marveled at the flavors as it transitioned with each chew. It was sweet, spicy, and oh so tantalizing with each bite. This is a must get. I had to order the Jalebi, as it's the store's name. The crispy flat spirals were fried then soaked in saffron syrup, which gave it a mild honey-like scent. It was served warm-hot. The texture of the spirals reminds me of phyllo dough, that delicate crispy/flaky texture, but Jalebi is not actually flaky. With each bite, golden beads of syrup dribbles from the sweet treat. It was sweet and delicious. Perfect for those with sweet tooths. The Onion Kachori reminds me of samosas, just without the potatoes stuffing. It was served piping hot with a side of the cilantro mint and spicy tamarind sauce. The interior was mostly hollow, with a lining of minced onions and spices. It was finger food sized and tasty. Overall, had a great experience trying these street food snacks. It is on the pricer side for the portion size but the quality and flavor is there. Highly recommended trying this place. I will be back for the Dahl Sev Puri.

Starting off with what was good though, their mango lassi is tasty and momo chili dumplings are so flavorful with great texture. I would say they excel at their doughs in general because their naan was also great (especially the onion stuffed naan). Their Sewa/kale chaat was also passable (but would love if the kale pieces were bigger so that beans don't cause it to be as soggy after a while). That being said, it seems like they could do a little better with packing a flavor punch for their other dishes. Their shrimp tandoori was good but nothing to write home about. Lamb biriyani was also good but could've been stronger in flavor. Chicken tikka masala seemed like it was lacking something (but not sure what...), and the artichoke pakora didn't taste like artichoke? Thought it was still decent... I also think their tamarind chutney could be a bit thicker in consistency (maybe like that of the mango lassi), the mint chutney was nice.

"Authentic" is one of those words that gets thrown around in reviews of ethnic restaurants without…read moremuch thought behind it. People use it to mean tasty, or familiar, or just different from a chain. That's not what I mean when I use it. To me, authentic means the food isn't pretending to be something it's not, that the flavors and intention come from a real place: heritage, roots, memory. My benchmark is simple. When someone who grew up eating this food says it tastes like home, that's the review that matters. That's the one I trust. Keeva earns that word. Rita is the heart of it, but Keeva is a family labor of love and you feel that from the moment you walk in. When the restaurant first opened she told us about the dream they had to bring the taste of home to the people of San Francisco, and you could feel it. Her kids were often playing in the restaurant when we'd stop by. That kind of detail tells you everything about what this place is. What made me a regular wasn't just the food, which is delicious, it was Rita coming to every table, checking in, teasing us about why she hadn't seen us in a while, steering you toward something you hadn't tried yet. She didn't do this selectively for certain customers. She did it for everyone. That kind of warmth is rare, and it's the whole reason eating out is worth doing in the first place. The dishes are made with intention. You can taste the difference between food that was assembled and food that was cooked with purpose. Keeva is the latter. And if you ask for spicy, prepare yourself. I used to live about a block away and this was my go-to. Moving out of the Inner Richmond meant leaving Keeva behind, and I genuinely miss it. If you're in the neighborhood, what are you waiting for? If you're not, it's worth the trip!

Copra is an absolute masterclass in coastal South Indian cuisine that completely recalibrates your palate. The Fillmore space itself is gorgeous--dripping with lush greenery and high-end tropical energy--but the absolute culinary obsession happening on the plates is the real story. We ran through a massive spread, and honestly, the flavor profiles are loud, complex, and unapologetically bold. The Standout Drinks -Jaggery Sour It hits that perfect balance of sweet and tart, with the jaggery giving it a deep, complex molasses-like richness that pairs beautifully with the spice of the food. -Salty City: refreshing and addicting Food hits -Mysore Masala Dosa: My personal favorite of the night. The dosa itself has that elite, perfect crisp-to-chew ratio. Pair it with the tomato and coconut chutneys, a heavy dusting of podi, and that rich onion sambar, and it's pure perfection. -Thayir Vadai Chaat: A total texture bomb and another personal highlight. It's got this incredible contrast between the cool yogurt, sweet date chutney, and the crunch of the Madras mixture and cashews. -Varuval Sea Bass Collar: Absolutely phenomenal. The fish was cooked to absolute perfection under that heavily spiced varuval crust. The karavelli curry it sits in is incredibly rich, and pairing it with the clean, bright snowpea poriyal and basmati rice made it an elite main course. We also dug into the Shrimp Vennai Roast (smothered in a brown butter chili chutney that is pure crack) and the Slow-Cooked Octopus with that sharp jaffna rub and grapefruit. Dessert -Jigarthanda: You must save room for this. The frozen caramel milk bar combined with milk jam, nannari, and the crunch of candied cashews is elite-level dessert engineering. It's sweet, cooling, and the perfect antidote to the spice of the meal. Last but not least, you must try their filtered Indian coffee. It delivers a strong nutty subtle sweet flavor. Service is sharp, fast-paced, and genuinely passionate about the menu. It's vibrant, energetic, and entirely worth every bit of the hype. A shout out to Ser taking care of our group of 6. Unfortunately, the chutneys were very similar to each other and the truffle egg appam tasted too strongly of coconut, and I could barely taste the truffle or the egg. But still overall very good. The service was another story. We felt like the food came out at unreasonable intervals. We got the egg appam, bone marrow, poori, chutney palette, and shrimp in rapid succession one after the other. It barely fit on our table-- plates were half hanging off the side of the table. We felt rushed to eat it all because things were getting cold. Based on the texture, I thought the chicken might have been cooked on the bone and then deboned before plating which I really like. I liked the Bombay Pav Bhaj, and the bread it came with was amazing with a bit more density to it than your usual pav. The masala jackfruit tacos were good and quite spicy. The saffron rice might be my favorite. It is as saffron as saffron gets. Very aromatic with a distinct flavor. I've never had saffron rice this concentrated. It was delicious. The wheat roti was also good with a nice texture but quite greasy. I think they melted ghee or butter on eat piece. I usually, they brought missi roti even though we ordered wheat roti, but they fixed the mistake quickly and gave us the missi roti at no cost to us. The missi roti isn't something I would ever order. It was like a soft cracker rather than a bread. The lamb Korma was okay. It was a bit gamey for my taste, but Ameya and his parents liked it the best, probably because it wasn't spicy. They also liked the tamarind prawns. I did not like my cocktail. I love a good clarified milk punch, and the Tulsi Twilight is supposed to be yogurt washed. I couldn't tell it was washed with anything. All I could taste was acidity, and it gave me heartburn. Also couldn't taste any basil. They are known for their dahi Puri, but I don't understand the hype. Reviews online describe it as a burst of flavors and describe the yogurt as tangy. The yogurt I had was only sweet, and the seasoned potato and green apple at the bottom tasted like a Mexican green salsa. The presentation was sad. I was a bit disappointed by the desserts. The texture of Milk was just rasmalai topped with a crispy milk on top that reminds me of how milk dries around the top of your milk jug after some time in the fridge. The Khubani Ka Meetha was nice, but the menu said it had a cardamom mousse. I absolutely love cardamom, but I couldn't taste it in the dessert. The presentation was beautiful for both desserts though. They didn't have chai. Crazy. I went home, took a pepcid to balance out the acidity from my cocktail and drank a cup of chai.
