We tried several times to eat at Grimaldi's Pizzeria at the Quarry location but weren't able to get in due to long waits and staffing challenges. We were honestly disappointed, but we finally made it to the La Cantera location, and it was absolutely worth it! We were seated in about 20 minutes, which was very reasonable, and from the moment we sat down, everything was fantastic. We started with the antipasto, and it was fresh, flavorful, and a perfect start to the meal. For our pizza, we created our own 16-inch with the garlic white crust, and it was incredible. I had pineapple, grilled chicken, jalapeños, and hot honey on my half, and my husband had Italian sausage, black olives, mushrooms, and basil across the whole pizza. The flavors were outstanding, and the quality of the ingredients really came through. This experience completely made up for our earlier attempts. Great food, great service, and a great atmosphere. So evidently their waiting list means absolutely nothing. If you go and complain and give them a hard time, they will just seat you. It doesn't matter if your checked in right before the dude that tried to get in front of you after you waited with your party for 5 min to check in. And no they didn't have reservations or call ahead because we had 6 people and they had 8 and we were told that was reserved for parties of 4 and under. So there's that. So yeah. We waited almost 2 hours just to see every single person who came after us get seated first and here we are, just waiting, patiently. Never said a word, while everyone else is complaining and giving them a hard time. That's not the way to go... you have to be mad and let them know!! Great food service and ambience. Went for thr Don and the new spicy pepperoni pies today. Both were delicious. We had kids with us and so my only complaint was that the high chairs need to be cleaned before re-using. Ours was dirty and we had to clean, even the seat off, before placing my nephew. Waitress was always coming by for drink re-fills and checking on us. We also ordered the small side salad. This is a big salad and is actually enough for 4. The only downside is the mushrooms. Way too many for this size salad, imo. But if you are a mushroom lover, then this is your jam, because there was a whole small bowl left of them. We were not mushroom eaters, lol. Two months ago my husband invited me to have some late lunch in this restaurant we did love the pizza and desserts in here and while we were here we mentioned to the waiter that we live nearby and he gave us a flyer saying if we wanted take out pizza we could get a discount using the flyer . So today I decided to get some take out pizza and use the flyer . I called the restaurant at 11:38 am since we wanted to order online and use the flyer with the $5 discount . A lady answered and I specifically asked her can we use the flyer if we ordered online or do I have to make the order over the phone and hand you the flyer so we get the discount . She said of course you can order online and just show us the flyer and we will discount it once you give us the flyer . I said okay I will order online. 3PM came and we walked all the way to pick up the online order . We showed the lady at the hostess stand the flyer for the $5 discount and she said she wanted to show this to their manager if they can honor it . A few minutes later she comes back and told us you cannot do this online because my manager will have to open up the order and the kitchen will have to make again the pizza . I said well we called earlier at 11:38 am and talked to someone she said we can do this online and once we pick up the order we can show the flyer and get the $5 discount . Oh no you can't do that you have to order it here physically then you show us the flyer before we can give out the discount , hey don't get me wrong it's not really about the $5 discount . It's about giving your customers the correct information . The very least the manager of this restaurant should have the proper training of customer service by exerting a little effort of making it right . I have worked in the hospitality industry for 32 years and this is not good customer service . $5 is not a big amount of money it's always about the principle and the effort to try to make it right . This is not advertised on the website nor on the outside of the business. What type of pizza business opens late and doesn't even offer the one item you are famous for, pizza. Service: Usually 25-30 minute wait since it's a popular place in La Cantera, and they do host super large parties occasionally. Table next to us was easily set up for 20+ guests. Sadly, service here is also their own downfall. We waited an hour for our food and never got checked in on, and basically our order never placed and we were forgotten. Two waiters came and both said "we're just running severely behind" but several tables were served and left by the time we got our food. I go and inquire why the party of 9 was seated prior to us. She says- no they were here before you. I physically saw them get here after me and sign in. She said they had an 8 top; and ur telling me they got seated before my party of 7 because they had 8 or 9. Doesn't make any sense. The girl comes outside and asks if a 6 top is ok. I advised that was fine and I needed a high chair. She rolled her eyes and never got it. My daughter got up 20 minutes later and got her own high chair. We ordered our food and I was told that they have no Caesar dressing. So I ordered another type of salad. Waiters were very slow and overwhelmed. Used to frequent this place fairly often, but today will be my last time. My girlfriends birthday was this month and we had used the free pizza reward which is redeemable through the rewards app, we called ahead to see if there'd be a wait time if we wanted to get a table and were told there was no wait times, upon arriving we walked up to the front and spoke with a long haired gentleman and let him know we had ordered ahead and would like a table seeing as there was many open tables and were interested in having some drinks, he then tells us we can't be seated cause we placed an online order? Hahah what? Never making eye contact with us this whole interaction, he then tells us we can speak with the staff at the bar to get our food. So we made our way to the bar and got our food, we ask if we can get some drinks and they said yes we're more than welcome to sit at the bar, 5+ staff members huddled around talking amongst themselves and almost 10 minutes later we finally have someone come up and ask what we'd like to drink, and immediately I'm told they got two warm kegs and most of their draft beer is out. at this point we just wanted to eat, so I take whatever cold beer they have and ask for some plates, we then eat the worst cold pizza with under cooked garlic we paid extra for. Yet, the table next to us, who ordered after us, received their pizza within 15 minutes. This place is such a disappointment over the past year. Each visit gets worse and worse. Last visit about a couple months ago was our last straw. 92% of the time we do take out to avoid long lines or dine in to avoid chaos. For orders pick up, there's a system, you can call to order, pick up at the bar and speak to apparently a designated person who will check/grab products if prepared. We've ran into bs such as never got the phone order (but can you wait 15 mins after waiting 1.5 hrs, it'll be done), another 15 mins turns into 30 mins, no line in front of bar - random people cutting in front of me. Most recent encounter, asked the dude behind the bar, who do I talk to to get my pick up? He goes and points, it's that lady right there who is clearly backed up and overwhelmed while you two dudes behind the bar are just hee hee haw hawing doing nothing besides twiddling your thumbs.. then he goes to me "what's the name on the order?" I stared at him right in the eyes and ignored. Didn't you say I need to talk to her? I'll wait for her then. screw you. Went here today for lunch since it has always been my mom's favorite pizza place. We haven't gotten pizza much recently since they got a pizza oven but was in the area. There was no wait which was nice. Service was great! Our waitress was super sweet and attentive and always refreshed our water, took plates away when needed etc. My mom's plate was not clean when we sat down so the waitress replaced it for her. Not the best thing to notice when first being seated. The pizza was okay, we got the small pepperoni and small prosciutto Arugula. They were pretty small portions but perfect to share between the four of us. The prosciutto arugula one had the perfect amount of arugula and cheese but the pepperoni was very underwhelming. We also got a small Mediterranean salad which was HUGE and delicious. Definitely could share it between 4 people with multiple servings each. I could have eaten the whole thing though because it was very yummy. The restaurant itself was kind of dirty, like my mom's plate, and the womens restaurant was a mess and did not smell good. It did seem like it was not as nice as it used to be. My mom said while the pizza was good, it wasn't as great as it used to be and she'd prefer to have made it at home herself. One employee was walking items to the front but I couldn't get her attention because she had her phone earbuds in. Finally the hostess noticed my looks of concern and I asked her to check my order. I'm not sure I heard the reason but when she returned she apologized and said it would be another 10-15 minutes.. which it was. Still my bartender server managed to not notice me. When the pizza arrived I got the distinct impression my order was never turned in and it was confirmed when after eating the young lady who was finally checking on me had to repeat my order and key it in to generate the bill. Service was lackluster and surprisingly slow: we were there at the 11am opening on a Tuesday, the restaurant remained less than half full, and the wait staff was having more fun kibitzing with each other than handling tables. Couldn't help but watch hungrily as they were brought out one-by-one past our table. Also was told brusquely that we couldn't get a seat by a window, as that section wasn't open for lunch. Way to make a new guest feel welcome, guys! That's NYC for you, so perhaps I can chalk that up to an attempt at authenticity. Ordered a classic 16" sausage and mushroom pie. Pizza's got great quality cheese and toppings so kudos there. Sauce is a bit sparse, too tart, and a little watery (though that could be from the mushrooms). I'm formerly from NYC, and I know that Grimaldi's has a great rep, but this isn't really an NYC-style pie to me. There's a certain texture you're looking for: not too soft and floppy at the tip like a Neapolitan, where you really need a knife and fork for the first third of the slice. But it should be slightly foldable. This crust was crispy, but stiff and a cracker-like in texture. Maybe that's signature Grimaldi style? In sum, I'd say try it and see what you think. It's certainly edible. But 'edible' isn't 'great', and the attitude of the waitstaff is below average. There are better places to spend your money. This place scores a 2 out of 5 on the 'CTJ Scale', as noted below. 5 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Jesus good. Would be OK passing away after finishing a plate here. 4 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Mary good. It wasn't obvious either - there were three hostess and three bartenders. How was I supposed to know. Regardless, I understood once informed about the matter. Because of the host staff, we had a mediocre dining experience. Initially, when we put our name on the list, they told us it would be a 45 minute wait.We came back to check on our table after 40 minutes and the man at the host stand told us we would have to wait another hour. We looked at him sideways and said we've already been waiting 45 minutes and you told us initially that it would be 45 minutes to an hour. Why are we waiting another hour and he said well we have a party of 30 that we have to seat later and we don't want to disrupt the flow of their meal. In the meantime, more than half of the tables were empty. The party of 30 hadn't arrived yet and they still hadn't arrived by the time we left . Luckily some nice young waitress came up and said why don't you just put them at table 51 I'll be their server. So she's sat us immediately and then she explained to us that the two people at the hostess stand were new. They didn't know what they were doing. Note to management: train your host staff because otherwise you're gonna make a lot of diners angry. We almost left and went somewhere else if it hadn't been for this nice waitress that knew what she was doing. A fter all said and done. We did actually have a very nice meal.
