We went on Saturday of Labor Day weekend 2017. This was our 2nd visit to Grits Grill as my husband raves about the grits because he says they are just like his grandpa's. We brought his aunt along since she loves grits and she confirmed that they were just like grandpa's. Everything was really good eggs, bacon and hash browns! Others in our group enjoyed omelettes, and steak with eggs. Yes, there are long lines (there were parties of 18 and 11 in front of us) but the staff did a great job of getting everyone one in and out. read more

Highly recommend!!! My husband said this was the best breakfast he ever had and I enjoyed mine, as well. Couldn't decide between hash browns that had good reviews or the grits, so I got both. Great, diner style food at good prices. The service is friendly and accommodating. We had a group of seven on Sunday morning (around ten) and only had to wait about five minutes. There is plenty of seating outside for groups to wait so we were comfortable for our short time before the table was ready. The food came quickly, and the place seems to have good turn over so there was never much of a wait for anyone. We'll definitely be back! read more

This restaurant embodies southern cooking. This is the perfect way to start your day. We did not even have to eat lunch because we had so much food here. The biscuits are MASSIVE. One star for service. First time to OBX, read the reviews on Yelp and decided to give it try... 4 stars it must be good. Yelp got it wrong! We sat at the bar, in front of the open grill. I ordered the ham plate, consisting of ham, eggs and hash browns. The hash browns were soggy! The came from a pile on the grill that had been sitting there for who knows how long... The eggs came from a mixture in a container stored away. While the whole time the lady was cooking my eggs from the mixture container, a carton of eggs sat untouched right next to the grill. The server prepared my toast with a slap of another type of mixture container that I can only assume it was butter. It was so greasy and dripping off the toast, I didn't attempt to eat the toast. Worst breakfast ever. Overall, cheap food at a high cost and lazy skills on the grill. read more

Real disappointment. Please rename your restaurant. The food was all just pretty standard. Not was bad, and nothing was great. I will say portions are great. You are getting tons of food. After we paid, we went around the corner of the strip mall to a coffee house we saw to get a couple drinks. Upon walking in we immediately regretted eating at Grits. Please do yourself a favor. The Grits Grill was a good choice for our brunch. I ordered the French toast and it was very good. Our waitress Candice did an amazing job and was very attentive to our table (a party of 7). We were seated almost immediately and the food was served quickly. Overall the restaurant is a great place to stop but could use a little more attention to its cleanliness. BEST Grits I've had in 47 years. Good food all around, good service. Homey feel of a local place. I'm a northern gal, so on a vacation to Colonial Williamsburg VA many decades ago, I had my first taste of grits at the Williamsburg Inn's Sunday brunch. Wow! Loved them. That was 47 years ago, and I've been disappointed with every bowl of grits since. There was always something lacking. Even tried to make them at home and failed. When I tasted my first spoonful of grits at GRITS GRILL, I was shocked. It was the taste I've been looking for all those years. PERFECTION! Even went back for another breakfast, just to be sure ... and the grits really are that good. I'm not an expert in Southern cooking, but I know GREAT when I taste it. Next time we're in OBX, I plan to stay in Kitty Hawk, not Corolla, so I'm closer to Grits Grill. read more

For the love of all things breakfast, do yourself a favor and stop in here. Eat 10 biscuits. Pass out on the beach for a few hours. Come back the next morning and do it all again. Huge portions with extra crispy bacon (I am not part of the flubbery bacon lovers crowd). The south seems to enjoy this grits trend, not my favorite, but by far the best cheesy mushy stuff I encountered while on this trip.
