My wife and I went there one weekend morning during the busy summer. We live here permanently and knew to expect a wait anywhere we went. We were told 30-45 minutes before we could be seated--about what we expected. The problem was that the wait was on the sidewalk where everyone was getting blasted by the sun. But looking inside there were more than a half dozen seats open at the counter and many tables were clean and available. I asked a bearded guy who seemed to be a manager why people weren't being seated. He got angry and said he was letting the kitchen "catch-up" before seating anyone. I said it was very hot outside and wouldn't customers be more comfortable waiting in the AC with a glass of water. He started say something about not needing my opinions when a female manager told him not to get into an argument. He was very rude. We were later seated and the food came out fairly quickly. The service and food were okay but nothing to rave about. I won't go here again even in the winter when the volume of weekend breakfast customers is gone read more

Awesome breakfast! We especially liked the French toast and sausages. On our second trip there i added the grits with cheese a bacon which really is the way to eat grits. All I can say is yummy!! One family member had the sausage gravy and biscuits with hash browns, which they really liked. I think they practically licked their plate clean. The waitresses were great both times and the hostess was a sweetie. Opens early so it's a great way to start your day. read more

Great breakfast joint. Kids meals are huge. Chicken fingers are real chicken tenders and more then my kids could eat. I had the shrimp and grits. They were creamy - sausage gravy helps here. And the combination of sautéed scallions, bacon and shrimp make for a great meal. Crab cakes sandwich is good- deep fried and tasty. read more

Arrived Friday late morning for breakfast, were informed of a 15 to 20 minute wait. Forty minutes later we were seated. Burger and waffles were good, grits were good. Service was poor. Three of the four meals were delivered together with the waffles delivered 10 minutes later. Server was generally unattentive. Would not recommend this place. read more

I recently vacationed in Nags Head for the first time a few weeks ago. My family happens to love breakfast, so I did a lot of research on good breakfast spots around Nags Head. Grits popped up a lot, but did not have a lot of reviews. We decided to give it a go and it was one of the best breakfast meals we had the entire week. Not good food at all. Very disappointing. Soggy hashbrowns that sat on the griddle in a pile. Biscuits and gravy - tasted like the gravy came from a packet. I didn't eat the grits but pretty sure they were Quaker instant grits. WORST corned beef hash ever - it looked like it came in frozen portions and just cooked up from there. Seriously tasted like something from a school cafeteria. Service was fine. The cooks had to work with some bad ingredients I think. If you're in this area, find another breakfast place. read more

Excellent food for a good price. I had cream chipped beef with hash browns on a biscuit. It was made very well, plenty of beef and the gravy was perfect not too starchy or thick. My sister had a Monte Cristo sandwich the she really enjoyed. My son had chicken fingers and fries and my nephew had chocolate chip pancakes that he raved about. Diner like decore. Service was good, but I didn't enjoy the food AT ALL. I'm a Southern girl who grew up eating grandma's food every Sunday after church, so I'm no stranger to good Southern cuisine. The biscuits had no taste and were VERY bland; I was very disappointed because I love a good homemade biscuit and was looking forward to that the most. The hashbrowns were dry, tasteless, and drowned in grease and butter...I had to douse them in ketchup just to get an ounce of flavor. The country ham was dripping in grease and very fatty and I didn't really enjoy it...even the eggs were drowning in grease and tasteless. Even though the decor is adorable and the service was good, the food was dry, tasteless, and NOT worth my money. I won't return because of so many other dining options that are better (The Dunes restaurant has AWESOME breakfast). read more

It's a great breakfast place. In a strip mall, like a diner but a tad larger. The breakfast here is so good that the locals eat here too. We always get the 2 egg & grits & bacon & biscuit breakfast with coffee & OJ. Service is fast - you'll get your breakfast before you're halfway through your coffee. It's a good, filling breakfast, served up fast and hot. Good value for the money IMO. This place can get packed in the summer months, with long lines on Sunday. Get there early if you can. Give them a try - nice to support a local business. And they are open year round so that's great in the winter when Sam & Omie's is closed. read more

A Nags Head classic, though I had never been here before during my many beach trips. They seated our large party shockingly fast. The food was good - exactly what you'd expect/ hope for from a breakfast diner. I had shrimp and grits for the first time and happily supplemented from my son's oversized breakfast plate of well-made, classic, ingredients. Add to this that the server was funny and personable, and it makes this a place I'd return to. read more

Vacationing and needed a place to meet some relatives for breakfast. Waited maybe 20 minutes on a Saturday morning. You would think how can breakfast be different from one place to another. This place was amazing. Fresh, quick, and totally still talking about it. Not sure what it was but the omelet was delicious, the breakfast potatoes were perfect, and the atmosphere, service and grits were spot on!!!! For a dinner it's just ok, had to ask if they could warm our daughters pancakes up cause they where cold, my gravy and biscuits was very spicy other then that no flavor and I am thinking they used food service biscuits. My wife's sandwich was the best thing there and that is sad cause they are to known for thier grits. Now for the over cooked instant grits. I guess they think people don't know what real grits taste like. The service was super fast and friendly and that goes a long way in here. read more

I never write reviews for establishments but after what I dealt with yesterday, it was needed. I'm a local and called in an order for 4 bacon, egg and cheese croissants (one without egg and one without cheese -- to make it easy, or so I thought). I picked up the sandwiches to go, paid and went on my way. After getting on the highway I realized I only had 3 boxes which meant 3 sandwiches so I turn around and go back to the restaurant. After painfully explaining over and over what I needed, I realized that I was missing one sandwich, one didn't have bacon and one had cheese (which I requested none of on one) -- so three screw-ups. After fixing it, I was then asked to pay for the 4th sandwich. WHAT?! You screw up that bad and you ask me to pay for the missing one? What also boggles my mind is that I saw the ticket where the order was written down over the phone, there were 4 sandwiches on the ticket. So who knows if I actually did paid for 4, or only 3?? Either way, what terrible customer service to request that I pay for a freaking sandwich after 3 mistakes on my order. The cashier AND what I assume to be the manager on duty or owner (she was an older blonde woman dressed in regular clothing) were both requesting that I pay, I was floored. This restaurant needs to brush up on customer service and learn how to make locals happy who keep the place running in the off season. I will never be returning. read more

We hit this place for breakfast on our last morning as we were headed off the island. They do a really solid and tasty breakfast. It's your basic diner or southern breakfast food. The grits as well as the biscuits and gravy were pretty delicious. Everyone else enjoyed their omelets and other food items. No one had any complaints. We will definitely stop in again the next time we go to the Outer Banks. Highly recommend. read more

We visited Nags Head this past June. This was our first time here. We headed out to breakfast and stumbled upon Grits Grill. It's kind of out of the way, and can easily be missed. We were happy we decided to stop. It's nothing fancy, just your basic diner type restaurant, but the food was really good. The Greek omelette was out of this world, and the prices weren't bad at all.
