I had been to all of the other Groovy locations except this one until yesterday. I have been using Groovy for all of my car service for years and they have always been fantastic. I went to this location yesterday to get an oil change and I did have a Groupon. As part of the full service oil change they do clean your windshield, vacuum your interior, and check all your filters/ fluids. Of course they try to upsell you but they were very respectful of my tight budget and for us to stick to the oil change. I have no idea why so many yelpers are saying they don't honor the Groupon because they DO. All of the other stuff they suggest is routine and you can decline. I didn't feel any pressure at all. I owe these guys a great review for two reasons: first, they earned it. My oil change experience was as smooth as it gets. But second, their other location, on Slaughter, was just the opposite, and I came down hard on them on these pages. So fair is fair. I rolled in and was immediately greeted, basic info taken, and within 90 seconds was seated comfortably in an air conditioned office watching TV & sipping complimentary coffee. I had a choice to step a few feet away to the coffee shop next door and indulge, but I hung out to watch and see what would happen. They were thorough and quick. Did all the right things. Did not push for unneeded work, even when I set them up to do so (Me: "Is everything OK?" Them: "Yes, fine. No problems.") Just the opposite of what I got at Slaughter, where they tried to rebuild my entire car-- OK, slight exaggeration, but you know what I mean. See my other review. So, bottom line: I don't understand why there is such a difference, but there is. I will go out of my way to come back here even though Slaughter is closer. read more

I've been going to Groovy Lube @ this Guadalupe location for nearly 2 years now to get my oil changed and other regular maintenance when needed. I was very surprised to see all the bad reviews for this place. I've never had one bad experience here and love being able to go into La Tazza Fresca next door to get my chocolate coffee and breakfast taco while I wait. The first time I went here was because of a friends recommendation. The mechanic working on my car actually brought me into the bay area before doing anything to my car to tell me what they had found. Other than my oil change I know I needed they said my transmission fluid needed to be flushed and changed, he actually showed me what good, clean transmission should look like in your car then showed me mine that was as black and thick as night. In my 15+ years of getting oil changes no one has ever taken the time to actually SHOW me what needed to be done and give me comparisons on how it should look. I thought it was really nice and it helped to earn my trust. The prices have been reasonable for anything I've needed & when I've called other places they've been about the same or usually higher. I also receive a student discount which they always honor and that helps A LOT. They are always super fast, even on Saturday mornings and sometimes I've barely had a chance to finish my breakfast before they're done. I can't speak for others that seem to have had a bad experience here, but I won't take my car anywhere else for minor things such as oil changes. If I could give them 20,000 stars, I would. I'm even tempted to write four-thousand five-star reviews complimenting their shirts and shoes to accomplish such a feat. But let's see if this can suffice for a chunk of that... I have frequented the attached Cafe, La Tazza Fresca, for years (seriously, y'all - best Chai around!), and though I've always had pleasant exchanged with the workers of Groovy, I for some reason never took my car there. I would typically go to the Jiffy Lube across the street, because branding and whatnot. This changed a few months back when I got my State Inspection done here. One gets to wait in said-beloved coffee shop whilst the workers do their thang, which is so much nicer than sitting in a sparse waiting room (though one can do that here, too, if they're attached to such experiences). On this instance, the employees were super kind and personable, and they vacuumed my car per gratis! Which was a super lovely touch, and really made me smile. That experience totally rocketed Groovy above Jiffy. And today's instance... I don't even know if I'm at liberty to say how much wonder happened. So I'll cautious, but just know whatever I'm about to say should be amplified. My air conditioner has been fritzy lately, which I thought was due to low coolant, because that seems to have made sense and I don't know shit about cars. So I pull up to the service, and a man later identified as Carlos answers my advance. I tell him my AC's blowing hot air, so I think it's the coolant. He tells me it's probably the freon - actually, this part is unimportant. So imma fast-forward. He says he'll check things out. I also mention that one of my tires has a weird cap and, therefore, gets low on air every couple of weeks, which is kind of annoying. So he says he'll check my tires and their caps, too. Whatta guy! I amble in to Tazza, reading and having a lovely time with the barrista. About ten-fifteen minutes into this, a man approaches me, I see from Imperial Glass. He mentions how they checked my windshield and saw some cracks, and told me how they were going to repair it for free because insurance rules. I happened to have my insurance card in my purse and hand it to him and am giddy of this freebie. How unexpected! New windows! Yay! He leaves, and then Carlos comes in some moments later. He shows me pictures on his phone of the underbelly of my hood. He says how he did the diagnostic, no worries there. He then goes on to say that he happed to have some Freon for his car, and decided to use some of that to check my car's freon - which alone is like WHAT?! THAT'S SO NICE! - and, in doing so, found there was a tubey-thingy being rubbed by accelerator fucking things up. So that's the AC problem. Buttt, while he was down there, he noticed I was low on oil - so he filled me back up. No charge. And he also filled my tires and replaced the caps, and vacuumed, and probably made some magical safety-barrier around my car. I don't even know. I was so overwhelmed. So, to top it off, we chat about said-tubey-thingy, and he offers to call around for quotes. I call him my Grease-like-Beauty-School-Guardian-Angel, he leaves, I continue reading, the glass guys come back to arrange fixtures, they leave. You know what? Too much exposition/secrets revealed, maybe. So more fast-forwarding. Carlos returns, finds a killer deal for tubey-repair. I try to slip him some monies for all he's going above-and-beyond for, and he DENIES IT. WHAT?! WHAT!!!??! AND! The kicker! It's fucking DOWNPOURING like CRAZY during this. So, on our last encounter, he even says "Come on through our office on your way out and I'll get your umbrella from your car". WHAT?! So, in summary... I come in for a coolant check, and new tire cap. I receive a repaired window, oil refill, diagnostic, Freon-tube quote-magic, vacuumed car, aired and capped tires, chivalry, and restored faith in humanity - ALL FOR FREE. The secret's out! I probably shouldn't be saying all of this! But expect 3,999 reviews from me complimenting their uniforms and keychains to make up for all of this amazement! Or just do the math yourself, because I've consumed some wine since and, y'know, sleep's healthy... BUT JUST COME HERE and be a decent human being and they'll be magic and get a chai whilst you wait and it will be incredible! read more

This visit to Groovy Lube was an unexpected ripoff. I have been using Groovy Lube for 7 years. I bought a conventional oil change groupon for the visit, ~$20. When I drove up, the technician informed me that they put the wrong oil for my car in last time. When I told her it was Groovy Lube that did it, she said they've changed owners now and that now they do things right. And that if I like my car I'll get the right oil. It'll cost a little more but we will still deduct your groupon, she said. She said that it was 10W30 oil and that my car needs 5W20, which I knew to be true. So I figured, ok how much more can that be (and stupidly didn't ask). At the end she said I owed $50, and when I questioned it, she said, well, you saved $30! And I said, this was an $80 oil change? And she said I don't know, it's too hot to do math. I should've argued more but figured it was pointless if she couldn't do math.... And it was extremely hot and I just wanted to get out of there. Sadly, I will never go back to Groovy Lube. If you are smart, you will get them to put the full price in writing before they touch your car. read more

I went there today with a Groupon. He gave me no flack about it. I left my van with him and got a sandwich next door. They called me as soon as they were finished and let me know that they could not get the oil drain plug out of the oil pan so they did not perform the oil change. He recommended I go to a mechanic to get them to remove the plug. They did, however, top off my fluids, including the oil, and vacuum the entire van AT NO CHARGE! I think they are trying to improve their service. If you go, you have to know that they will try to up-sell you for different products. No different that most other places you go to buy stuff. The key to not buying the products is to just say "no," or "no thank you." read more

I've taken oil here to get changed and the experience has always been alright, friendly if a bit slow. But they all of a sudden stopped letting me bring my own oil due to vague 'liability concerns' -- definitely seems like the liability is them not being able to sell their very expensive oil. I am pretty confused on the three star review, I had a great experience today. My wife bought the 45$ deal on Groupon and unfortunately it was five quarts so I needed to pay for the two extra which was perfectly fine! They did a full service no extra charge!! Checked my tires, all fluids added to the ones that were low and was all done in under 15 minutes!! I usually change my oil myself but have been very busy so haven't had the time and this business has earned a customer! I highly recommend this lube station! read more

I recently recieved a groupon for this place, which was great because I needed my oil changed I also have been long overdue to get my anitfreeze changed out considering I had absolutely none in it ( but Im a girl, so its okay right?) Anyways I have just not wanted to spend the money on it. SOOOO those were my problems, here is how my visit went. I pull up to this extremely old retro place with quite alot of charm and was greeted by the most handsome mechanic I have ever seen, he was super nice and asked what I needed done I explained just a simple oil change and they said no problem... I asked how long because I needed to be at work by 1 he said 20 minutes topped... So i go inside while they take my car in the shop, 5 minutes later they come in and explain how my cars overheating blah blah blah I cant afford it so you cant fix it....OH WAIT YES THEY CAN. The mechanic of my dreams came over and took me outside and explained and showed me exactly what was wrong...and yes my POS car needed fixed and fast!!!! BUT WAIT!!!! I only have 56 dollars and the service I'm needing is 75, thats okay they knocked 20 bucks off...so I could afford it...How amazingly nice...oh and I did I mention they cleaned my extremely messy car out also. I love these guys and I still have two more free oil changes left and next time I will be sure I can tip FAT!!! Beause they deserve it... Stay Clear. I know most people do not have the means to change their own oil but if you can do it yourself. If you don't know how to then you need to learn it. I took my car here twice out of convenience and did not have the ability at the time (moving) to change it myself and both times I had a full synthetic oil change at 80 bucks and both times they neglected to change the filter. They were rude and when I told him my car was very low and couldn't make it out of their bay without reversing he insisted it wasn't the case and got it stuck trying to do what I told him he couldn't. When we got it unstuck he acted like it was my fault and quickly processed the paperwork and refused to listen when I asked him about their insurance policies. Again, go elsewhere for an oil change if you cant do it yourself. read more

I had a couple Groupons for this place and came to this location because the Lamar location was always too busy to see me. This is my second time being here. First experience: I didn't know my brand new Honda Fit was already set with synthetic oil, but they showed me the cap and what synthetic is gets so I was we'll informed for last time! Had me out in about 20 minutes because the glass guy was there and my insurance covers glass dings free! Nice guys! Second experience: 4:00 post work, not a person in line. 5 guys working on my car, one of which says "You know your oil is synthetic, right?" And jokes with me when of course NOW I know! Done in 5 minutes tops! Even without a groupon I will be returning here forever! read more

They were prompt, polite, and fast which were all VERY nice! They are also dog and coffee friendly which are huge things for me, b/c who enjoys waiting on an oil change....I didn't check on internet but guessing they have it. I also appreciate the nice central location and additional coffeehouse option next door. My only concern/question was that a synthetic oil change was close to $90 and they said I'll need it again in 4,000 miles. It's a 2012 Mini and my last car was an '02 XTerra so I could just be getting used to the way things are now, but it does seem like a high price for so often. Research needed. read more

Last time I came in for an oil change: was in and out in a surprisingly short amount of time. Pricing was pretty average. Decided to come back again. Second time back and I'm doing an oil change and work on my breaks. Called them this morning to set up an appointment. Arrived a bit early and they were able to help me out a bit early. They offer a shuttle to wherever so that's a plus. They have a few toys (Legos and picture books) to keep kids entertained. Dog friendly with some treats available for your pooch. Cleanliness is above average for an auto shop. Bathrooms are very clean. Good customer service overall. I'll probably continue coming back here. read more

This place has gone to the dogs. I don't know if they're under new management now or what. I came here for years. Now since it's been different, I've come here three times and probably won't ever go back. First, they tell you an oil change is going to be one price and then charge you TWENTY dollars more. The second to last time I went, they took apart my glove compartment without asking me (hunting for more things to rip me off on) and didn't even put it back together properly. I had to go somewhere to get it fixed. I told them the next time I was there and the guy didn't even blink an eye, let alone apologize. He then proceeded to tell me it would be one price to change my oil and at the end of the conversation mentioned there was some 20 dollar additional charge for something stupid. I laughed in his face and said, "So, it's actually this much? And he just said lamely, Yeah..." Idiots. Never again. They used to and probably still do give discounts for Yelp reviews (which 99 out of 100 times no one is going to give you a bad yelp review in front of you while they're cutting you a real for it). So, ignore their Yelp score. It's essentially purchased by them themselves. read more

I mentioned the groupon when I pulled up, and the attendant barked at me immediately, asking when I purchased it. He then tells me (loudly and rudely) that he cannot honor it until 24 hours has passed, and that I should have known that. I left and got a refund on the groupon. I went to Groovy Lube for the last time this past April. I brought in an older Mercedes for an oil change. They were polite enough at the beginning, but the real problem started when I came back to get the car. I noticed they hurried me through paying for the service, didn't say a word about what they did, then quickly gave me my receipt and the form with the notes about the work. When I got home, I noticed a handwritten note saying that my car had "major leaks". At no point did any Groovy Lube employee tell me about these "leaks". Funny thing though, the car had no leaks when I brought it in. What's even better? The car didn't actually have ANY leaks. I had the oil changed in preparation for a cross country move, and drove the car well over 1,000 miles without any issues over the next few days. There was some oil that burnt off the engine from driving, but it eventually stopped, and I imagine it was just oil they spilled on the engine. My theory is that they banged up the car a bit (it's pretty low to the ground) when driving it into the garage, saw the oil they had spilled on the engine, and thought that they had caused a leak somehow. So, being the dishonest, unethical shop that they are, they rushed me out without a word and hoped I wouldn't notice until I got home. Which is what happened, except because they're so incompetent they didn't realize that they didn't cause any leaks, they were just sloppy and careless. If you're down with unethical, dishonest business practices, give Groovy Lube your business. I can't say that the owner espouses these practices, but the employees didn't seem to have a problem with the situation. read more

I had a GREAT experience at Groovy Lube and I am so grateful my coworker told me about them and assured me that I would not regret it. They are straight forward and honest and will not try to sell you anything you DO NOT need. They even showed me what they were doing under the hood and showed me my filter before replacing it. Because of all the Covid 19 precautions, I stayed in my vehicle before, during, and after service with exception to briefly looking under my hood at things they were taking care of. The service technician/ mechanic working on my vehicle is named Dana (Pronounced : Donna). She was straight forward, honest (gave me tips on taking care of a concern I had and how to do it myself), showed me what she was working on, kept me informed of price differences of services they offered to make sure I was aware and to help me make informed choices. She was fast and very friendly. I never felt I was being taken advantage of, dismissed with concerns I had, or second guessing my choice to try them out. She even informed me of additional coupons available and their differences. (I saw the Groupon that was online before going). Because of this I was able to save more money so I decided to have my headlights cleaned as well and have the oxidation removed. Dana did this so quickly and effortlessly. They are like NEW! Note that my vehicle is 12 years old and I had someone attempt this one other time somewhere else and the results were definitely not the same! All I can say is, Thank You Dana for the outstanding service!! And thank you to Groovy Lube for hiring an awesome FEMALE service technician/ mechanic!! Especially for all the single independent women out there who are frustrated with being taken advantage of or dismissed by a majority of garages and oil service stations out there. NEVER go to this Groovy Lube to get your Vehicle Inspection. This used to be my favorite place to go but recently I had such a horrible experience with them that I will never go again. I went there two weeks ago to get my vehicle inspected. Not only was the service abysmal but they FAILED my vehicle during my Vehicle Inspection because the "window tint on my passenger side door was at 29%". When I talked to Ed, he said that it was a new law in the state of Texas that the window tint needs to be at 30%. ( I later checked and it doesn't https://www.dps.texas.gov/RSD/VI/ConsumerInfo/windowTint.htm) This felt weird to me for a couple of reasons. I have never changed the window tint on my car and I have had this car for 7 years and have never failed an inspection before. I went to another shop to get my vehicle inspection done and they said that there was nothing wrong with the tint in my car and they passed me. I am definitely going to be calling them to get my money back but be warned that they are trying to take your money. read more

Did not have a Groupon, but someone did come in with one while I was there and they mentioned a 24hr wait until you could use the groupon. So something to note. Prive was expected. I am a loyal customer to Groovy Lube! Every experience I've had is great! The employee's are honest, humble, and efficient, and not bad on the eyes if you know what I mean ladies! They have no problem working longer than their expected business day, and treat their last customer as if they were the first customer of the day. They vacuumed my floor mats, put air in my tires, and reassured me that parts I was told needed service elsewhere, did not need service. I give them all my business! I don't even live in Austin, but the visits are sooo worth my drive. The prices are not bad either! They are some sweeties! My favorite person there is Brandon.
