Surprisingly tasty NY style pizza with sweet marinara sauce and the perfect 50/50 ratio of sauce and cheese (it's on the saucier side). The pizza isn't oily or greasy. Kids and I enjoyed the 1st slice so much that we got a #2 slice. As there were 5 ready-made cheese pies, the slice wasn't the freshest. Next time, I'll order a Junior pizza (smaller pizza) that's made to order. I don't recommend adding toppings by the slice, as they just add to the pizza when they reheat it through the conveyor belt. I ended up scrapping off the onions before even taking a bite. There were too many restaurants on the Rehobeth Boardwalk. We picked this place because of the huge outdoor patio. Also, I need to hop on the Grotto Pizza bandwagon. I've been to Rehobeth many times but haven't had their pizza before. I tried the cheese pizza and it's good pizza. The crust is firm and the tomato sauce is sweet. We had a couple of picky kids in tow and they eat that pizza. And mac & cheese....which I think came from a box? For $4.99...not worth it in my books. But in their book, it's amazing. One star down because service was subpar. The server forgot to bring us water until we reminded her in the very end when the kids were getting thirsty. This use to be one of our favorite places to come when we visited Rehoboth. We always enjoyed sitting at the bar, watching people walk up and down the boardwalk, while enjoying a cold beer and pizza. If you never had Grottos pizza, your missing out on that wonderful thin slice pizza with a generous amount of their delicious sauce. The beer was cold, which is saying a lot in 95 degree weather and a heat index of 105. The service today was less than we are use to. The're were two bartenders, one left frequently leaving the other by herself to manage a full bar of patrons. With that said, service could have been better. While having time to sit and observe things while waiting for my next drink and pizza, I realized how the bar area was also being neglected and could have benefited from a good scrubbing and an extra pair of hands to put things away. There is a single female bathroom that was utterly disgusting and judging the condition of it, the only thing of importance might have been making sure there was toilet tissue and emptying the trash. TP is a plus! The toilet, floor and sink looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a while. If the weekly cleaning schedule on the back of the door was any indication, I'm right. It's over a week old and no notations were made on any hour of any day about its maintenance. It made me wonder what the kitchen looked like. Well, it is a beach (boardwalk) establishment, and some may be more forgiving because of it, but for me, it's still a restaurant and should have health and safety standards to maintain. I grew up in Rehoboth and all I can say is that if you want late night delivery grotto's is the go to. If you want something to soak up the alcohol go for it. However, IMO Grotto's is a staple for the tourists. The pizza is nothing worth writing home about and the appetizers are comparable to something you put in the oven from the grocery store. Grotto's is a bit pricey compared to national chains, but unique in both taste and appearance. We had a reservation for 8 on a recent Thursday night. The place was jumping and I'd surmises they were understaffed. The pizza was good, perhaps pricey for what was described as a large individual, but fresh, quality ingredients. The salad and ambiance were fine. We had a super sweet and nice waitress, but she was a little overwhelmed therefore drinks and refills were slow coming. I'd go back, but probably not in season. Maybe they could whip the sand off of each chair/booth after each party eats. I got the Stromboli, pretty good. Nice and crispy but a little crispy. The grottos calzone was the best item ordered. Large calzone, so delicious. Beer was served in a nice large cup. Stayed nice and cold. The sausage grinder was good as well. Meatballs seemed to be ur normal microwaveable ones. Cheese could have been more melted. But still good. The fries were delicious!!! Perfect amount of crisp and salt. I appreciated their initiative to save the turtles by de promoting the use of straws. OMG I don't think I can even talk about the food and service because the ladies room was so disgusting. I see someone else mentioned this in their review some years back. Nothing has changed! It's still disgusting. Smelled like pee, flies everywhere, dirty toilet paper on the floor, broken latches on the old rickety doors and no paper towels. Looked like it hadn't been updated since the 80's. There was one of those charts on the back of the door for employees to check off that the bathroom was cleaned. There was nothing written on it! Nothing was being checked - well that was obvious! One of the two stalls was completely unusable. There was a woman in the bathroom with her elderly mother, trying to maneuver her into the dirty stall. We both remarked how disgusting the bathroom was. I will not be returning there. If they don't care about the condition of their bathroom, what do you think the cleanliness of their food preparation area is like? I mentioned it to the manager and she was nonplussed - no comment at all, no apology - nothing, just a nod. This is a "family" place and was packed! It takes in loads of money since it is right on the boardwalk. Why can't they take care of something as easy as bathroom cleanliness? My daughter later fell asleep in my arms while the rain continued to pour. A nice server from the dining area who came out to the lobby to check out the rain noticed my daughter sleeping and offered us a table in the back where we could chill. My daughter is getting dense and the rain looked like it wasn't going to let up anytime soon, so we gladly accepted her gracious offer. Feeling bad just sitting there and not ordering anything, my wife ordered a raspberry kid's size gelato ($2.49) and I ordered the personal pizza ($6.29) with everything ($1.49), which was slightly cheaper than the mini personal at Nicola. The gelato was tasty and the pizza was good. Still, I thought the crust, toppings and sauce were all better at Nicola, but I give this place a 3rd star b/c of the gelato. There are three Grotto Pizza locations in Rehoboth Beach - this is probably the worst of the three as far as decor and the number of gelato flavors. So we had to eat at Grotto's in honor of my grandfather while we were in Rehoboth on vacation. He passed away this past winter and Grotto Pizza was his favorite. I have to say, I'm not sure what my favorite guy was so excited about. Wasn't bad pizza, wasn't good pizza. It was "meh" pizza. The pizza is really weird because they do this swirl thing with the sauce on the top, so that big sections of the pizza don't have cheese on it. It looks cool, but isn't very functional. It makes for a messy pizza. I LOVE extra sauce and light cheese on a pizza, so I'm okay with messy if the sauce is worth the mess. But Grotto's sauce is mediocre. They didn't have garlic on the table, so I couldn't really acheive a satisfactory balance of flavors. It was okay... but I'd try other places before I went back again. This particular location is right on the Boardwalk and is very busy. On the plus side is they have a liquor license, ample seating, waitress services and it's kid friendly. Negative side is the booths aren't big enough to accomodate more than one pizza, the restaurant is VERY noisy and it's painted an obnoxious combination of colors. read more

When I got to the counter, the cashier was figuring out something with the manager for a good 5 minutes. Then we ordered my tomato pie and consistently told this girl NO CHEESE because I'm lactose intolerant. We waited for another 45 minutes for our pizza (after it sitting on the counter for awhile and us saying something about our order), opened it up, and it was cheese- filled. Great. I went back and said something and to their defense, they said that I requested the cheese with pepperoni. Um no, I told her no cheese 5 times. Suggestions for their "Grab N Go" Service: 1. Train your staff better on how to use your machines so they don't mess up customers orders. Cashiering is a stressful job and to put someone blindly on the register with no help is a disaster. 2. I only get out to Delaware once a year. So, I wait for Grotto all year long and they never disappoint. The pizza is perfect for a hot day at the beach. I though the pepperoni pizza we ordered was really flat, flappy, soggy, and hard to eat. There was nothing wrong with it - it was just not as tasty / cheesy as I'm used to pizza being. Let's lay our cards on the table about Grotto Pizza. They are everywhere in Rehoboth Beach. The wait staff are all kids under twenty. It's beach food, PLAIN and SIMPLE. Literally. That said, I tried Grotto's for the first time in the many years I've been traveling to RB. If you must choose one, visit the boardwalk Grotto's. I had slices of cheese pizza and an antipasto salad. Again: plain, simple. The food came out. The wait staff was nice. I got a check, paid, left. I decided to visit again for lunch the very next day. Same deal: wash, rinse, repeat. The food was tasty, inexpensive, and I was in and out. Bottom line: This is a beachside family restaurant. You will see small children here, you will see people in bathing suits and shorts and who should probably put on more clothes before 1) stepping into a restaurant; and 2) showing me more skin, wrinkles, flab and fat that I ever wish to see again on a bunch of unattractive people. But I digress. Linda, the front door hostess, is a charmer and a wonderful woman who acts as a den mother and knows how to keep things moving and pleasant. Make sure you say hello to her. Grotto Pizza makes a good pizza. Good, not great, but good. They also make a good chicken steak sandwich. Everything on the menu is good...not over the top great. I think it gets such rave reviews because it is on the beach or in beach areas. Everything tastes better when you are at the beach! LOL The one thing I do not like about Grottos...any Grottos I have been at in Rehoboth, is that they do not bring everything out at the same time. They will bring out my meal, ie, soup/salad, then 15 mins later, the pizza will come out for my husband and children. I don't like that.
