I don't know why I waited so long to come here. I'm super picky and this place is the only place I'll go for tacos or a burrito in st. Pete. The ingredients are fresh. The pulled pork is addicting. The rice is way better than tacobus. The beans are ridiculous. The only thing I could ask of tacoson is that they maybe strain just a little bit of the leftover juice from the pork. Don't get me wrong, I love it. But there's so much that i actually have to wring out my taco a bit and im left with a plate literally full of pork juice. But, some people are into that. I found TacoSun while in St Pete and on the hunt for tacos. "Better than Taco Bus!" the reviews said. I had to try. Don't let their strip mall vibes fool you, this place can make a killer taco. I ordered the fish taco special which came with two fish tacos (fried white fish) on corn tortillas topped with cold slaw. The two tacos were served with yellow rice and refried beans. My date had the vegetarian tacos. We ordered chips and guacamole for the table. When ordering tacos they offer the choice of corn/flour and hard/soft. There was lots of flavor and they were stacked high with ingredients. You know, the kind of tacos that don't really fold and are messy... That's the ones. But I'm not complaining. Lots of authentic flavor and food coming out of TacoSun. This isn't your hipster taco spot with ribeye tacos and fusion. I personally enjoy the Tacoson in Hillsborough better but this is a good option. Super busy at lunch but there is plenty of parking. The line moves fairly quickly. Place your order have a seat and wait forever for your food to be delivered. I especially love the hot sauces homemade on each table. Today I went to grumpy gringos as I do all the time because I usually enjoy their food although their employees are always STANK AND RUDE ! I was eating my birria taco and chewed on what I THOUGHT was a tough piece of meat but was a GLOB OF HAIR ! it wasn't regular human hair , it looked like animal hair or hair from a beard ! NOBODY in there , chefs , waitress/cashiers wear hairnets so all types of hair could be falling in the food , cashiers don't wear gloves when handling food . They just touch with bare hands . When I went in to share what I found in my food , they showed no sympathy or hospitality didn't offer me anything , I had to ask for a refund . I showed the OWNER and all he had to say was "that's weird" like I was the one to contaminate my meal !!! I've been throwing up since I've ate it & now have a stomachache from them . We went there this week, based on the reviews and star rating. We were rather disappointed. We got the nachos and overall they were great except for the amount of cilantro they put on them. Cilantro is considered a vegetable here and there was way too much. My husband got a quesadilla without cabbage and again massively loaded with cilantro. We both were under the impression less is more with this particular item, that it's more like a garnish or a flavoring not considered an actual vegetable on your list of vegetables. I also got a quesadilla, but I got mine with only chicken and cheese no vegetables and it was OK but not great. Overall if we were to return we would probably just get the nachos with no cilantro. read more

They have just about every kind of meat you can think of . You order , they give you a number and drop off the food to you . I rolled in deep with like ten or more people and the food was delivered as soon as I sat down . There's three sauces on the table that taste good , and range from medium to super hot . I have one word for TacoSon: Ceviche! A good ceviche is always on my radar screen. I don't think I'll ever get a Peruvian ceviche like my friend's aunt used to make, which was white fish in a garlic-lime marinade, but a good Mexican tomato-lime shrimp ceviche is the next best thing. And TacoSon makes a very nice, zesty shrimp (can be combined with octopus) concoction served with fresh lime wedges and tortilla chips. As an out-of-town traveler, I've begun making TacoSon my lunch place of choice when I'm in the St. Pete area. Located in a nondescript area of town, next to a Home Depot and across from a Wawa, it would be easy to miss. Once inside, however, the atmosphere is welcoming, casual and comfy. Order at the counter and your food is brought to you. There are authentic dishes on the menu, such as menudo, and Latin American sodas (I like the lime [limon] with my food). You walk up to a bar, the menu is predominantly displayed in front of you, you order at one end and pay at the other end of the bar, where you receive your food, to go, I'm not sure how they operate with dine in orders. I ordered two tacos to-go. Both with grilled chicken. I ordered jalapeños and extra sour cream on the side. I also ordered a side of refried beans. The tacos were great! The shell had a wonderful crunch, the filings were fresh and plentiful, they contained a good amount of meat. The side of beans was generous however, not great. I was excited to try this place and looked as though it may have authentic food. To my disappointment, it felt more like a indoor drive through as they take your order at the register and you take a number. When I received my food, I ordered the CRAB TOASTADA and it was fabulous! It was piled with real crabmeat and I squeezed some lime on top and gobbled every morsel! On the other hand I ordered fish tacos and I received 2 in a soft shell but what I saw ( especially after asking the teenage-looking cashier if they were good) was something I think a 10 year old would prepare. Each taco had one fried cod filet. And what I mean by that is the cod is that elongated triangle u get boxed in frozen section of store.. not even a real fish filet. Had a little slaw on top. Hungry I thought well maybe it tastes better than it looks... couldn't eat more than 2 bites! Disgusting and an insult to fish tacos. I went for an early lunch and ordered the carne asada street tacos with a drink (easy order). Well 30 minutes later and no food! There was only three customers in the restaurant including myself, and I was second of the three to order and everyone else got there order and then even the customers that came in after us got there order, so I inquired about the order and the ticket was given to the cooks they just the didn't make it . So I asked for a refund because my lunch was only 30 minutes and so I was already late. The thing that gets me is I was very nice about this and the did refund my money but the forgot to refund the tip I gave them for the order, but mainly not one attempt to at an apology or tried to make things right. Very disappointed, they just need to know a customer can spend there money anywhere, but if they choose your establishment and something goes wrong an apology or a little empathy goes along way. read more

This is my favorite taco place in Tampa bay.It reminds me of when I used to live in Texas and AR, absolutely delicious food and if you love a lot of food, this is your place because they will give you so much. My top favorites are the tacos de lengua (tongue tacos), their shrimp ceviche, and their real crab meat tostada. The lengua is tender and juicy, they give you so much meat and toppings in each taco, I'm Not sure how they make money:) their crema (sour cream) is so good, Super creamy and milky. The shrimp ceviche is fresh, crunchy and sweet with lots of shrimp, tomatoes onions and cilantro in lemon juice. The crab tostada is crunchy topped with a lot of crab meat, I got a 1/4 cup of crab meat per tostada( that is a lot) per shell, topped with guacamole and pico de gallo. They have 3 sauces at each table and I love them all because they are so original not your typical hot sauce, so much depth.I love it. I also tried their menudo and it was very good, everyday of the week they have a "special" Saturday was the menudo. Once again their portions are bigger than most taco places and the quality of their food is what makes this place my favorite. It's not just tons on bland food. We went to Casita Taqueria "Beer n Tacos" place on Central Ave, but it was so crowded that we had to leave. DTSP not what it used to be. Then we remembered the Grumpy Gringo, a spot we knew from their yummy breakfast burritos. We got a delicious dinner with the most well seasoned citrus pork we've ever had. Then we left a pair of sunglasses there and didn't realize til the next day. Called in the AM and the cashier lady knew exactly who we were and said she had the glasses by the register.
