STORY TIME: Earlier today, I got a hopelessly flat tire (pictured) and quickly veered into a gas station parking lot. I did not have AAA and Geico said it would take over an hour for a tow to come, but I had under an hour to make it to a very important meeting. I had a spare tire in my trunk, but no idea how to attach it. I scanned the gas station and noticed a van that advertised GSCP on the side. I approached the driver as he was filling up and said, "Hey... if you're a plumber, you're probably pretty handy, yeah? What are the odds you know how to change a tire...?" He looked over at my marred Mitsubishi and answered, "I got you." With nothing but smiles and a laid-back "can-do" attitude, Gene pulled his van next to my car, and--in 90° heat--proceeded to expertly change my tire in a matter of minutes. I was floored by his efficiency. I offered to Venmo him at least a fraction of what I would've paid AAA, and he told me he wouldn't take payment; he was happy to help a stranger in need. I told him that if I ever need a custom plumber, he will be my first call. Cars are not his area of expertise, but considering how skilled and focused he was in a foreign arena, I can only imagine how skilled he must be in his actual field. I called 2 other plumbing/rooter companies before them and I left all three of them voicemails. Robert got backed to me and it was 9am in the morning. He said he could get to my house at 10a. I wasn't home but my aunt was and by the time I came in, Robert and Gene were inspecting the problem and insuring us that they had a snake that is 200 ft long. They both took care of the problem. They used their GoPro camera and showed us the problem before taking out the ton of "flushable" ass wipes that never dissolved in our sewer tank. Then of course some feminine products. Other than that, we paid a great deal for problem getting fixed, great customer service, immediate service, knowledge and skills, and not to mention 2 hot guys. Earlier this month. our toilet started overflowing. Gross. So we called GS Custom Plumbing (after seeing an ad on Yelp), and Gene came over later that afternoon. We asked for him to clear the clog & to see what was the problem using a camera. Turns out, roots were growing into one of the pipes. Did you know roots could do that? I did not. He fixed the clog and gave us recommendations on how to fix the pipe. THEN the next day, our laundry room had water on the floor. Another pipe? Turns out the pipes we had under our house had been installed improperly. Call GS Plumbing! GS CUSTOM PLUMBING was prompt in responding to our call. We had a leak under one of our bathroom sinks, and needed some overdue plumbing maintenance as well. Gene the owner came out when he said he would...very prompt with our agreed appointment time! When he arrived he had on a mask, shoe covers, and followed all Covid safety guidelines. This really helped put my elderly mother's mind at ease! Gene was honest, friendly, very knowledgeable and professional. Shame on you! You made me send you photos of my water heater(s) over the phone and you said i needed to replace both my water heaters! Even though I mentioned one water heater was only 3 years old! Obviously you did not want to come to a small job which is fine but tell me that and don't lie by telling me to buy new water heaters over the phone! As a business owner I get pick and choose your customers we do it all the time but honesty is key.......After calling a trustworthy plumber he fixed both my water heater issues in 10 minutes and guess what no new water heater are needed! DO not trust this team who makes recommendations over the phone without properly diagnosing the problem- i see them all over my neighborhood and I will advise my neighbors. read more

Our experience with GS Custom Plumbing actually started out pretty good. Our kitchen sink and master shower became clogged over the weekend so we looked for highly rated plumbers on Yelp. GS was the first one to respond on Monday morning. They came out and unclogged the kitchen sink - there was some kind of sludge that looked like coffee grounds clogging up the line. The fee was reasonable and we even recommended GS to our neighbors who had a similar problem (we live in an older condo building). Here's where things started to go south: shortly afterwards, our toilet in the half bath near the kitchen became clogged up. We're not entirely sure what GS did with the sludge that they removed from our kitchen sink - did they try to flush it down the toilet? We don't remember them taking out bags of any waste. All of the dirty standing water from the sink was flushed down this toilet, so i My husband called them and left a message asking about this. We wanted to find out what had happened and have them come back out and take a look. No response. We called them three times - two of these times it didn't even go to voicemail. He sent an email. No response. He also messaged them through their website contact form. Still nothing. We asked our neighbors if they'd tried calling GS - they had and also received no response. Our advice would be to steer clear - GS Custom Plumbing might help you initially, but they lack follow through. Update 4/30/18: We had a different plumbing service come out to fix the clogged toilet. They found a washer/kitchen nut from the kitchen sink that was clogging the toilet. It's now pretty clear that the clogged toilet was the fault of GS. They fixed one problem, but caused another. read more

My go-to guy for plumbing needs. When my wife and I were moving into our new house we decided to change out an electric stove top with gas. Having done gas lines before I took the job on myself but ran into a problem where, after rehooking everything, I kept hearing a leak. I was running out of time and patience so I called in GS and they came out and fixed it in no time (one of the tubes had a hole). A few days later I called Gene again about coming out to hook up my water line to my fridge. He commented that he saw the work I had done on the gas and proceeded to give me a pep-talk on being able to do this myself and save the money. Kind of funny when you think about it. But it shows what kind of a guy that he is that he did not just take my money but instead encouraged me to do the work myself and how to do it. Sure enough, he was right. LOVE THIS GUY. But let me go back a bit. We had a total backup in our main sewer line. We had tried snaking it ourselves, but the rental unit only went 100 feet. And seriously, it was NOT something I would want to do again. It was a Sunday, and I just wanted it fixed. We couldn't flush the toilets or run any water. So it was a bit of an emergency. We called Mike Diamond because they are well known. A MISTAKE. That dude was so useless it was nothing but a waste of our time. I came to my senses and yelped "Sherman Oaks Plumber" and Gene was the first name that came up. I called him, but it was late on a Sunday, so he came out at around 8:45am the next morning. 15 minutes early by the way. He fixed the problem, ran a camera, and installed a clean out for us all for less than $1000. Mike Diamond had quoted us $5000 and didn't do ANYTHING. Gene is the man. Also, my dad was instantly "buddies" with him. We will call Gene again for ALL plumbing issue we have. I suggest you save yourself the headache of dealing with anyone else and call him too. Definitely don't call the idiots at Mike Diamond. The reason they "Smell good" is because they don't do shit. Literally. read more

GS was responsive to our initial call when we had a water leak. The reason for the 3-stars is due to a couple things. We had our water heater turned off because of the leak. When GS left, we didn't really test the water and check if hot water was coming. Then overnight found out hot water wasn't on. It wasn't until I consulted another engineer in our building that we pinpointed the heater was not turned back on. This was a small thing but part of making sure everything is in order. 2nd visit We were happy with the service so we called GS back for maintenance work. I am not exactly 100% satisfied with the shower head maintenance and caulking in the kitchen. I will call them back and see if we can address it. We have plans for additional work too. Price wise, I would not say that you always feel good after getting the bill. read more

He called back quickly after I left a message early on Thanksgiving eve, talked me off the ledge (I had a broken water main and was having 10 people over for Thanksgiving the next day). I texted him a few photos of the pipe and a little while later he arrived with all the tools and materials needed to replace the 50 year old , 60' galvanized pipe. Gene and his crew are personable and professional and I would gladly and highly recommend him to anyone without hesitation. His priced seemed fair and reasonable and did not at all seem "seasonally adjusted". If anything, it was probably less than others would have charged, given the circumstances. People came out, poked around, and were quoting me wholesale replacement of my sewer line. I really felt uncomfortable with the numbers coming back, so I found GS off of this very site. Gene was awesome, showed me the problem, what he knew and didn't know at that point, which with a sewer blockage is part of the problem, got me to a livable state, then for the major repair he gave me a fair price, and knocked out the repair in a day, just like he said he would. They said in writing "It's 175 installed not including water lines or any other materials for the regular faucet if you would like the Kohler sensate installed that price is 275 installed" Then they tried to charge me $1,300 and we settled on $1,000. IN OTHER WORDS, BAIT AND SWITCH. Prior to that, they installed a new hot water heater and reworked the piping. They told me that there was a one-year warranty on their labor and materials. I now find that a part of that work was defective and they have refused to honor that warranty. They want me to pay for fixing their defective work THEY DON'T HONOR THEIR WARRANTY. I am entering a complaint with the California Plumbing Licensing Commission. read more

I have used GS Custom Plumbing services twice when I returned from two trips with a different plumbing emergency awaiting me each time. The first time was a pipe that had burst in the garden with a geyser of water coming out forcefully everywhere. Gene of GS Custom Plumbing came right away, was able to stop the leak and then send his team that afternoon to cap the leaking pipes. Given the amount of work, and their amazing speed of response, their bill was pretty reasonable. The second time that I came back from a trip, I found that the glass vessel sink in my airbnb guest bathroom was leaking considerably, and GS Custom Plumbing assessed that the leak could not be fixed and that I needed a new sink. I ordered, but it arrived with the wrong faucet, so they came out a second time when the correct faucet arrived and they were able to install that part. Ultimately because they were unable to complete the full sink installation, and that cost me money as I was unable to rent out the room for a few days, they were kindly professional as to not charge me for the job, which I VERY much appreciated! A long overdue review for this AMAZING company. I am an avid reader of reviews, but seldom write any, unless something impresses me as truly awful or superb. GS obviously falls into the latter category. We recently moved into a new (old) house, and there were a number of small plumbing issues I needed to have checked out. The previous owner told me that another company had done all the plumbing work for the house, but when I looked them up on Yelp, their reviews were horrible. So, I decided to give GS a try based on the great Yelp reviews. One of the best house-decisions I have made thus far. Gene and his assistant came over the next day (they offered to come over the same day I called, but I wasn't available). They were super-polite and professional, and they arrived on time (something I am very particular about). They also happily took off their shoes before coming into the house (house rules & something that some vendors have issues with). I asked for what I called a plumbing "tune-up" for the house. Gene spent about an hour and a half at the house, fixing a number of things (a valve that had been improperly installed, faucets, tubs, toilets, etc.). He also told me what needed to be fixed right away, and what could wait -- something I really appreciated, given the number of things we have had to have fixed immediately upon moving in. He even fixed things I hadn't asked him about -- like an annoying loose handle on our master bath walk-in shower, which my husband had been unable to tighten despite his best efforts. I could on and on, but the short of it is, give Gene a call. He's competent, professional, polite, reasonably priced and an overall nice guy. read more
