I've lived down the street from Guadalajara for many, many years, going back to before its recent renovation, and it has always been a wonderful family restaurant with delicious food. I love the style and atmosphere of the restaurant--it feels intimate and welcoming--but what really keeps me coming back is the service. Everyone is always so kind and accommodating. Even when I need to make changes to my order, they are patient, helpful, and always take great care of me. The food has remained consistently delicious for more than 10 years, which says a lot about the quality and care they put into what they do. Haven't been here in years. Finally, came back today cause I had a craving. Still very delicious. I liked my boyfriends food better which I didn't get a picture of but I wish I did. I looked up the best bean and cheese burrito in Fresno, and this place was on the list. Homemade tortilla, excellent refried beans, and just the right amount of gooeyness. I gave this place one chance since it's so close to home but I cannot believe they think charging 14.50 for a breakfast burrito of that caliber in that location is acceptable. Traveling down 99 so we stopped to meet a friend for lunch that lives here locally. The mango margarita was very tasty! It was a busy place many coming through picking up orders to go or dining in. There is a lunch menu available. The home made tortillas are to die for so good!!! The meat in the meals were good portions and was good. The service was good and attentive. The salsa with the chips was spicy so if you like spicy salsa you will like that. The look of the restaurant is authentic and room to sit outside if you want to and it was clean. Stopped by this morning for breakfast. I ordered chili colorado with over medium eggs, it was the worse decision I ever made. The eggs were under cooked and the chili colorado was soupy instead of the rich flavorable way it should have been prepared. It's a shame this restaurant is cutting corners instead of sticking to tradition. This was a very disappointing experience. Will not be returning anytime soon. Craving Albondigas today, I was unable to find a recent Yelp review to guide me, so I took a chance on a brief-but-positive 2-year-old mention of it here. Two decades ago, a client used to drag me to Guadalajara for lunch more occasionally than I enjoyed. I say "drag" because I never liked their ambience (constantly dusty from both the dirt rail yard across the street & their unpaved parking lot) or food (ingredients seemed lacking in quality & freshness). Thankfully, blacktop now mitigates the dust and the kitchen standards now seem upgraded. A bowl of their Albondigas to go is enough for two (at $16, it should be). It includes seasoned rice, lemon wedges, a large warm tortilla, and mini-cup of spicy salsa. The soup broth was delicious, if a little on the salty side. The albondigas (3) were large (golf ball size) and had good flavor. Most vegetable chunks (3 carrot, 3 zucchini, 2 potato, 1 cabbage) were all too large, but the token bell pepper bite was miniscule (no wonder - have you price these lately?). Since I own a selection of sharp knives, this merely made for a delay in enjoyment. But a stringy, drippy stem of cilantro was unforgivable (frying pan upside the head to lazy chefs!). Overall, a quite tasty, fairly generous portion of soup, if slightly inconvenient. Although I arrived mid-lunch, the waitress was very pleasant. read more

Great traditional Mexican foods. Today we ordered eggs and chile verde. The breakfast comes with eggs topped with chile verde, beans and potatoes. The flour tortillas are homemade. I love this restaurant because when we eat there it feels like you are eating your Mother's cooking. We have been customers for years. The Garcia Family has done a wonderful job of providing great food. The prices are reasonable and good. The restaurant is small but welcoming. The service is great. Try this restaurant. I still come here and frequent even more now since I love closer. Being that my last review wasnt as detailed I thought I might share more. Before you come just know you have the option to order ahead and order online. I always place a phone order to speed things up and I take the food to go and it's always hot and nicely packaged. I like to order the breakfast deluxe and chile relleno burritos. They come wrapped with a homemade tortilla that tastes just like my mom used to make. After 10am the price of breakfast goes up $1 so just be aware. The parking lot is bumpy and only half paved. It's sort of hard to get in so just be careful and you'll be fine. My favorite thing to eat at this place is the quesadilla...so delicious and homemade tortillas ohhh yummy! Today I finally decided to try something different. I have never really found any local restaurants that serve amazing soup until I tried the albóndiga soup at this place. The flavor was perfect! And the size of the meatballs were perfect! So glad I found this little gem! This place is amazing. During my stay in Fresno, I came here a couple of times. So you KNOW it was good. I found Guadalajara on Yelp and decided to give it a try. Glad I did! This restaurant is a small place with a family feel. They have outdoor seating with water misters. It was 105 that day. I came inside to sit in the a/c and ordered a chimichanga with chile verde in it. Wow! Just wow. My food was SO good! I decided I would be back again when I get hungry. The salsa they gave with the chips wasn't my favorite, but it was good. The rice and beans on my plate were sooo good, as well. This is going to be my go-to spot for Mexican, any time I'm in Fresno. My husband and I were going to go eat at Hammy's and made a right turn on weber and happened across Guadalajara. I live in tower and work in downtown so I usually frequent Toleditos. I went to Hacienda Tequila in Clovis 2 days earlier and was extremely disappointed. Location- It's on a very busy street in a part of town that's not great. The parking lot is a dirt lot with no markers. I would come here for brunch and lunch, but most likely not for dinner. Atmosphere- The restaurant is very narrow. We were told to choose a table. We chose the only one available, but when our drinks came, the table was wobbly so we kept spilling our drinks so we moved to a smaller table near the entrance door. Food- Chips and salsa were complimentary. The salsa was the best salsa I've had at a Mexican restaurant in Fresno. I'm picky about my chilli because my husband's aunt who is Mexican and in her 90s, before she was placed in a home, made me a jar ever year for Christmas and Thanksgiving. I was cold so I ordered a cup of Albondiga soup which was about $9. It was the best Albondiga soup I've had. Because it was a cup, it only came with one large Albondiga (meatball), one large potato, one large zucchini and one large bittermelon. My husband got a combo number 3 with enchiladas, rice, beans and chilli relleno. I tasted his rice and beans and they were very good. I wasn't full from the Albondiga soup and the the chilli relleno a la carte. I expected a chilli stuffed with meat and coated eggs, but it was fried coated eggs with sliced chillis. A different take on it, but not exactly my favorite. I heard nothing, but great things and will be returning. read more

Went here for lunch recently with some friends. I tried the chile colorado which came with rice, beans, and homemade flour tortillas. The rice was some of the the best I've ever had. The beans were likewise amazing, truly authentic. The flavor of the chile colorado was spot on, and the meat was tender. I was disappointed in the tortillas, which appeared homemade. They were tasty, but extremely dry and brittle. I couldn't even fold them without them breaking. Friends got tacos and they said they were really good, with the exception of the asada, which was their least favorite. They were also a bit larger than the tacos we are commonly seeing these days. First off, the food is expensive. Actually, I already mentioned that didn't I? But if you want the best bang for your buck, split a Super Burrito with someone. Seriously, I've never seen a bigger burrito. If you come with 3 lite eaters, you might be able to split it amongst 3! That's how huge it is. I have the pix to prove. My wife and I were resigned to each have the special, which is a taco or quesadilla with beans and rice. It's basically a children's meal. I ate my meal and then helped her finish her Super Nachos. One egg white ham breakfast burrito ordered. The worker was kind and said it would be 15-20 minutes. We went to get it. They have outside eating as well as inside. The restaurant is clean and safe! The order was ready and the worker was kind. The next day! Morning. I got to my usual saving myself duties and got breakfast ready. I split the ham egg breakfast burrito in half. Went in this morning to have breakfast & have to admit they were very busy we had to sit at a dirty table until they cleaned it. ...& myself and my husband ordered out drinks, after about eight minute's then our order was taken, which we could understood like i said it was busy.. myself and my husband ordered Menudo with a side of beans and rice.. when we got our orders I noticed they smell as soon as they placed my bowl in front of me,and thought well maybe they added something different this time.. added all the condiments into the Menudo took a sip of the broth still had a foul flavor of when they don't clean the tripe very well ,then I proceeded to eat a spoonful of Menudo, but the tripe was very tough/chewy not edible at all ..looked over to my husband and he said yes tripe needs to be cooked for another couple hours ..to become tender so I called the waiter over and told him that I wasn't gonna be able to eat my bowl of menudo.. because it was not fully cooked & tough... He took it away and asked me if there was anything else I wanted to order ,I said yes just please bring me a Matcha breakfast plate please.. by this time. I am a little full on chips and salsa and did make a small burrito out of the beans and rice we had ordered., they bring my plate of Machaca ,potatoes and beans and for whatever reason there isn't much flavor and the Machaca, which is shredded beef with bell peppers, onions, and egg.. just had no flavor at all, as if they didn't season the meat or the dish ...And that was actually the second time we've eaten there this past month ..so I don't know if they've changed cooks or what but the food was not very flavorful and then the last time we went about two weeks ago for a bowl of menudo ..it was very watered down as if they were running out.. ‍so it used to be one of my favorite spots to have Mexican food ,but at this point I mean we paid $50 for our breakfast today. & The quality is no longer there so we probably sorry to say we will not be going back....‍ read more

I lived in Fresno back in the early 90's, and went to Guadalajara all the time back then. It was my absolute favorite. 30 years later, and I happened to be back in town with my family, and Guadalajara once again beckoned to me. I'm glad it did. It's every bit as good now--the food, the vibe--the service--as it was back then, and it was great to see the woman who owns the place still there, running Guadalajara with newer generations of her own family. Very nice place close to highway. Very nice staff and the food was so fresh and good quality. A family owned place which has a very good clean outdoor seating. They take orders at the door and the lady is very helpful. We got breakfast burrito, chicken burrito and fish taco. The green salsa was very good.
