I was in Fresno for work and before I returned home I stopped to eat La Cocina De Mama. I wanted some breakfast and with the open kitchen you get to see all the food preparation. My chilaquiles were loaded with flavor and the beans and rice on the side were mouth watering. The owners were there and were very nice and helpful with recommendations. I wanted a breakfast burrito so I looked on Yelp for nearby businesses that were open around 8:15 am. This spot had good reviews. Yes, I chose a very simple bacons, egg, cheese burrito. If they had asada I would have added it but next time I'll add the shredded beef that she had. It was good and just what I wanted. The jalapeño sauce was good and had a nice kick to it. The lady was very nice and we had a good conversation about chili peppers. It's in downtown, an older restaurant and fairly clean for the age. I love La Cocina De Mamá. Every time I'm in downtown I have to stop by. I've actually been twice this month. I got the enchilada combo. It came with two enchiladas (your choice of filling), rice beans, and a soda. The rice was my favorite, it was so flavorful. This time I got it with asada and asked them to add cheese. The asada had the perfect amount of flavor. My friend got a burrito and she loved it. The place is pretty much ran by two badass women who make the best food. There are 3-4 small tables if you want to eat there, but the tables are usually taken every time I go. Therefore, I always take it to go. read more

Okay...I was out for a walk downtown yesterday during my afternoon break at work and came across this hidden gem. I told myself I'd try them out the next day with a machaca breakfast burrito. BEST DECISION EVER!!! Many Mexican places have the "authentic Mexican food" signage, but rarely do they live up to it. This place is definitely an exception. It's like grandma would make! Treated myself to a breakfast burrito this morning and it was marvelous. I got a large chorizo breakfast burrito and it came with potatoes, refried beans, chorizo, and cheese. I also asked for the green, spicy salsa. This burrito was delicious and so filling, and all for $6! If you are around downtown, you can't go wrong with Mama's. Additionally, they don't have any indoor seating due to Covid, and have stickers on the ground to help everyone stay 6 feet apart. The woman who helped me was also wearing a mask and washed her hands in between each customer. They are doing a good job adhering to regulations. read more

I ordered the albóndigas and asada burrito. The food was pretty good. The ladies there were very nice and friendly. The only complaint is that the portion was small for my albóndigas (meatball soup). There was more broth than veggies or meat. Besides that, the flavor was good. The horchata was very delicious!!! I'll definitely go back if I'm ever in the area again. read more

Second time coming here and the food is excellent. This time I got the tostada, enchilada, and side of rice and beans. The food was freshly prepared and excellent! The only recommendation I would have is that I was surprised by that there wasn't as much food as I expected in the to go box for the price (which was still reasonable at $10.50). On our way to the zoo we decided to get some brunch for the kids. We ended up at La Cocina by complete chance. Small hole in the wall, I assume with the last review being a year ago that this place is mostly for the regulars around the area. Kids got their asada taco with rice and beans. I ordered myself a asada burrito and my girl got 2 gorditas. Everything was good, way more than we expected. Kids destroyed their plates. We ordered 2 drinks and then pulled a drink for the kids from the cooler. We forgot to pay for the drink from the cooler and when my gf went back to pay for the drink that wasn't charged the lady said it was ok and didn't charge us for the kids drink! Def a place to stop if you are in the area. Only reason for 4 stars is due to lack of restrooms and pay to park. read more

The Gorditas are really really fckin good especially with chorizo. Fast service too and they speak English & Spanish. The ladies touch the register and your money and continue serving food without washing their hands consistently or even wearing gloves. Maybe thats what adds that Mexican authenticity lmaoo. I'd recommend this to my friends. read more

We usually call in our orders for their inexpensive breakfast burritos. They are very filling. I can usually finish the small and the large I usually split with a coworker. When I order for lunch, I usually order there and take it to go. I always get the tacos or taco salad. The line is sometimes long especially during lunch. But usually goes by fast. Service is great, the two ladies and man that helps me are very nice. The place is a bit small and very stuffy though that's why I never dine here. I do recommend this place if you want yummy fast friendly service and yummy foods. read more

Saying that the food here has exceeded my expectations would be an understatement!!! I had 4 sopes de asada con todo and as soon as I bit into them, the authenticity was transparent. It was almost as if my mom would have prepared them herself. The truck says "Sinaloa food" and it definitely is. It's safe to say that this is the place to go for real authentic Mexican food in los banos. Can't wait for this food coma to go away just so I can head back and try something else off of the menu! read more

Burritos are delicious and CHEAP! Yummy authentic Mexican restaurant in downtown Fresno. It's a bit hard to find, its on Fulton Mall, right behind Payless Shoes. Tacos are less than $2 each, burritos are less than $5. There really isn't much of a seating area, it is more of a to-go location. read more

Don't bother. Really. Bland, flavorless. Had chili verde, rice, and beans with corn tortillas. Was really hoping for the best. What a disappointment, especially since the other reviews were so positive. The ingredients could only be described as generic. The meat was dry and flavorless. Tortillas were one of the name brands you find at the grocery store. Head down the road to Los Panchos or La Elegante. read more

I'm not sure what's up with the great reviews. Maybe I am just picky! I ordered Asada Sopes with everything and green chile on the side. The sopes were bland and the meat was dry and tasted as if it was from the day before or older. The green chile was watery and had no flavor either. The food choices in downtown Fresno are very limited, i'm assuming this is why people settle for this, but not me! I expect quality and this isn't it! read more

I love this place, I work downtown so I heard about it a few years ago. It is not really a dine in type of place, only a couple of seats. The food tastes great, is totally authentic and the women that prepare everything are always so kind! My favorite thing to get is the breakfast burritos, around $3 I think, and they prepare it all in front of you so you can decide what you want. Definitely one of my favorites downtown. read more

We were there for about 2 hours just eating and drinking. Now the food... it was honestly SO good! I just wish the portions were a little bigger for how much everything costs. Don't get me wrong, the food was delicious, but in my opinion it's definitely on the pricey side for what you get. The Truffle Mac & Cheese was really good, but it was such a small portion. The Crispy Bluefin Nigiri was probably one of my favorite things we ordered! It has crispy sushi rice, bluefin toro, honey-cashew sauce, avocado, and aged ponzu. It was SO good... but it's only like five little bite-sized pieces for $24. It was delicious, I just couldn't get over the price. The Mushroom Risotto was also really, really good! And my favorite meal was probably the Spicy Shrimp Bucatini. It has shrimp, Italian sausage, fresh bucatini, Calabrian chili, Grana Padano, and toasted breadcrumbs. The flavor was sooo good! We shared it, but honestly I could've eaten the whole thing by myself. If I go back, I'd definitely order that as my meal. For drinks, I tried the Frozen Summer Margarita, and it was so refreshing! It has watermelon, hibiscus, basil, and citrus, and I really liked it. I also tried the Pool Boy, which has gin, watermelon liqueur, cucumber, basil, and citrus. That one was really good too! The restaurant itself is super cute inside! The only other thing I'd mention is that when we were leaving, there were a lot of people hanging around the bar, so it was a little hard to get to the bathrooms. Not a huge deal, just something I noticed. Also, if you're going with a bigger group, just know they automatically add 18% gratuity to every tab. I totally understand why they do it, but with the menu already being pretty expensive, it definitely makes your bill go up fast. Overall, I really did like Saizon! The food and drinks were delicious, and it's a really cute place. I think next time I'd go for a date night or with a smaller group instead of a big party. Just be prepared that it's a little pricey for the portion sizes, and if you're with a large group, don't forget about that automatic 18% gratuity.
