Like most of the bars that I've visited in Villa park area a lot of regulars that are alway nice to talk to if you want to know some history of the area. read more

I didn't expect much when we stopped in on a Sunday right around lunchtime and no one was there other than a few in the bar. We ended-up very pleasantly surprised as the menu was quite extensive and everyone could find something to eat. We had two people get personal thin pizzas and one kid burger sliders and one adult chicken Parm sliders. Add a few cups of soup and some sodas and we were set. The chicken was very tasty and you got three good size ones with fries so I had one left to send for lunch with the kids. The waitress was lovely and understanding of kids who took forever to choose! We ordered in a couple thin pizzas and I tried the shrimp. Obviously it would be better eaten in. Eight jumbo shrimp, tots and slaw was a feast. The breading and tots were a little on the soggy side. Styrofoam containers will do that. I snuck a couple corners off the pepperoni pizza, pretty good but prefer a thinner crust. On Friday nights, Gulliver's brings in a "balloon guy"- this post is basically for him! He's incredible!!! These are not your average balloon "dog" or "giraffe ". He made an awesome SpiderMan and then a hot air balloon with a pig in the basket! My friends and I couldn't help staring at all the cool designs he was making for the kids! Staying at hotel near Gulliver's Pizza & Pub, ordered sm 9" cheese stuffed pizza with pepperoni and mild sausage with extra cheese. I have been wanting to try this place for quite some time and finally had the opportunity to do so today and I am very glad I did. I was surprised to find out that they have a brunch menu until 4 o'clock so one of us in the party ordered the all American breakfast (you get toast, eggs, hashbrowns, and meat for only $11.99), also ordered a personal pizza with two toppings and a side salad. Toppings were delicious and you could tell they were very fresh. The pizza is decent. It was a thin crust. The food was incredibly fresh. I got to try a little bit of the eggs and hashbrowns and they were probably the best I've ever had. Cooked absolutely perfectly. They did forget the toast which nobody realized until we were about to pay the bill, so they took two dollars off, which was nice of them!! Service was very good and efficient with decent prices and decent portions, I definitely look forward to coming here again!! I think I'll become a regular! read more

My auntie is a regular here so I have been here 3 times in the last couple of months with her. We do lunch on Sunday. While I have heard some stories, based on my personal experience here, I have been pleasantly surprised. The first visit was perhaps the rockiest. They got my burger order wrong and tater tots were extremely well done. Was a pretty decent burger! I had their prime rib sandwich and then the roast beef sandwich on the other occasions. Taters were perfect both times. Cocktails were kinda meh, not memorable. Our server, same one every visit so far, was great. read more

Where do I start? The place is outstanding, we are are in town for business and ate here both days for good reasons. First let's start with "K" the waitress, she can read a room better then the best. From the first two minutes of walking in, she had the best attitude and knew how to make us feel welcome and have a great dining experience. This is rare today nothing but great fun with the back-and-forth, laughing the whole time and could come back with anything we threw at her! After a long days work, this is what we needed a friendly place, and a smiling face! Now the food, my steak sandwich was very good. I got some sort of jalapeño add-on she recommended, and it made the sandwich Outstanding, my guys got the shrimp gumbo. It was definitely above par. The shrimp is cooked perfect! The drinks were well-made, and the overall atmosphere was better than you could ever expect. If you are in town come and say hi and enjoy a great meal with great people! read more

Very disappointed. We've started going here because it's close. Not crazy about the pizza but burgers and sandwiches are also good. The best thing was there desserts! Brownie & Chocolate Chip sundaes! Tonight we order serveral and they were terrible! I called in...after spending over 100.00 and live close. I am a frequent patron of Gullivers, and usually dive into the pan pizza which is maybe the best I've ever had of the thick crust style. We ordered a couple of thin crust pizzas recently and it was out of this world! The whole family commented favorably. The crust is outstanding, the toppings fresh and tasty. We ordered one with cheese on one side and green pepper and mushroom on the other; Excellent! The other was a cheese and sausage and the other side pepperoni: outstanding! The best place for fun, food and fellowship! Hosted a family gathering here tonight it felt like home! The warm ambiance, delicious pizza and fresh salads were only exceeded by the stellar customer service. Dino and the entire staff were so attentive and kind, we felt like we were home! The deep dish pizza had a flaky buttery crust piled high with the freshest ingredients. And the sauce was perfection! The thin crust was also buttery and flaky with the perfect amount of fresh cheese, sausage and pepporoni. Will definitely enjoy many meals here in the future! Absolutely excellent! read more

I stopped in the other day for the first time. I sat at the bar and ordered a pan pizza to eat a portion at the bar and sausage and peppers to take home. Since there pan pizza was what they are known for I was totally underwhelmed when trying the first piece. A lot of crust that was very dense, tasteless sauce and Italian sausage. I ordered half the pizza with onion and green peppers and they were just tossed on top of the pizza either before, during or after baking. The sausage in the sausage and peppers was lacking any grilling and broiling and looked like it had been boiled. The biggest disappointment was how the rest of pizza was boxed up to take home. When I got home, I opened to see the bartender had gotten a smaller pizza box and dissembled a portion of the pizza so it would fit in the box. It was a mess. read more

I'm a garlic whore and love that they really pile the stuff on if you ask for it as one of your toppings. A lot of places use the jar stuff or if they do use real garlic, you only get a few puny slices. This place does it right. There'll be enough garlic to where you'll question whether or not you should brush your teeth mid meal. The sausage was good too, but it was outshined by the mighty garlic. The only bad thing to me was the crust. While my friend really liked it, I felt like I've had better crust at Anthony's or even Lou's. And when you're getting stuffed pizza, the crust is just as important as the ingredients inside. It was on the thinner side but somehow was either doughy or a tiny bit soggy when I ate it. Overall, not bad. But I do think there are some nearby pizza places where you can get better pizza. read more

Went here with my family during the week because my sister was raving about their pizza. All I can say was the pizza was the only thing that was good. Service was horrible, I'm not one to complain about the service industry because I feel like it has not fully recovered with staffing after the pandemic. However, having to wait over 45 minutes for a refill on beverages is beyond unacceptable! Our server never came to check back on us and the other tables that were seated after us had already received their meals while we were still waiting on ours! To add to this nightmare of a meal the server charged us for seven drinks when the refills were free. If there had been a error, perhaps forgetting to put the order in then the appropriate thing would be to apologize. I appreciate accountability and apology. There was neither!!!!! We will not be returning. Unless you have three hours of time to wait around and do nothing don't come here. read more

We order a cheese and sausage pizza for pick as usual. Perfect for a snowy night. I picked up the pizza and came home only to find a half pepperoni half cheese pizza. Argh. I called get a correction and was told they would just bring me a pizza to my home. Okay great. I got some cash to tip the driver for coming out in the snow. Was in Chicago for work only and landed at around 8AM on a Monday morning. I was awake since 3AM that day and this place was right across the street from my hotel. The front desk mentioned that many of their guests have gone to Gulliver's for their deep dish pizza experience and was not disappointed there. Unfortunately, that was not the case for me as I found it to be quite heavy. I'm also a bit biased towards Brooklyn Style pizza having been raised in Brooklyn. The service was okay, there was a decent amount of people there for a Monday night but there seemed to only have been one to two servers working. It took quite some time for our server to get to us and while he was very kind, the wait to take our orders took longer than expected. We were ready to order everything but he only took our drink orders and then we had to wait for him to come back to take the rest. read more

We have passed by here many times and I kept telling my hubby we needed to try them. I was so looking forward to them, even reading so-so reviews on Yelp. Unfortunately, we were not impressed at all. We went on Christmas Eve and the place was dead. There was one other couple eating in the dining area and a few patrons at the bar. To start off, service was terrible, especially since they were mostly empty. It took forever for the guy to take our order, even longer to bring drinks and then the salad and I swear they must have went to someone's house to bake the pizza. It was seriously that bad. I mean, maybe the wait staff didn't want to be there, but really? I am convinced that they either just didn't care or were in the back partying instead of managing the restaurant. The salad was decently sized, but the cucumbers were not fresh, with that translucent look that they get when they get bruised. The dressing was ok. We were hoping that the pizza would be save them, but while there was a generous amount of cheese, toppings and sauce and the crust was good - the sauce was extremely bland. How you can make a pizza sauce with no flavor is beyond me, but it actually tasted like just a bland tomato sauce. It was so bad, we didn't even keep the leftovers. The check was another very long wait, when all we wanted to do was leave at that point. It was very cold, temperature-wise in the restaurant and the entire dinner took almost 2 hours. I would have given them a second chance to try out their pasta, but hubby said no way. When I think about it now, if their pizza sauce was no good, I cannot imagine their pasta sauce would be good either. I hate to give bad reviews, but sorry, I must. We did leave a generous tips for the waiter (way more than 20%) only because it was Christmas Eve, not because he deserved it. read more

I came here for the first time and my chicken was completely raw on the inside. Not just a little, but full on pink. I can only cross my fingers that I don't get sick this evening. I was surprised to still be charged. The server was nice and did remake them, but I guess due to the severity of the issue I personally wouldn't charge a customer. So I totally get the bartender not wanting to have her mask on while chatting with people at the bar, but her constantly rubbing her face and mouth while her 'chin' mask is on is what sends it over the top, seriously she must have rubbed her mouth 50 plus times in the hour or so we were there, and then not washing her hands before making drinks.... In addition in the bartender being a 'mask-hole' the food wasn't all that great. Our server was lovely. Took great care of us but between the bartender and subpar food we won't be back. I ordered a small salad with garlic dressing and a small personal pan pizza with spinach for lunch. Pizza that showed up in a correctly-labeled bag was pepperoni instead of spinach, which was disappointing, but I know things can get crazy with lunchtime orders and I don't mind pepperoni, so I rolled with it. One thing that should be cleared up right out of the gates, this is NOT Chicago-style stuffed pizza. This is Chicago-style deep dish, along the lines of Lou Malnati's, though I would assert that Gulliver's is much better than Lou's. To clarify, both Chicago-style stuffed pizza and deep dish are cooked in pans, however, stuffed pizza differs in that it has thinner, denser dough, more cheese due to the space afforded by the thinner dough, and, most importantly, an ultra-thin layer of dough which separates the cheese from the sauce layer. This ultra-thin layer of dough is my litmus test for differentiating these two styles, and this, combined with similarity to well-establish deep dish examples, puts Gulliver's clearly into the deep dish category. Adding to the confusion, stuffed pizza is sometimes referred to as stuffed deep dish, which is a fair description if one considers stuffed pizza (1970s Giordano's, Nancy's) to be a variation of deep dish (1943 Pizzeria Uno) and the fact that they are very similar at a glance, only differentiable upon closer inspection. Putting my pizza classification snobbery aside, Gulliver's deep dish was very good, certainly rising above some of the big name deep dish chains. Better sauce and a higher quality cheese elevate this pizza to best-in-class status. I look forward to trying some other toppings in the future as well as their thin crust. The personal pizza was a good size and perfect for lunch. The small salad was iceberg lettuce with some very thick cucumbers, and also comes with tomato, though I opted out of those. Gulliver's deserve a shout-out for a very well-executed creamy garlic dressing, which I'd rate as a medium-intensity garlic flavor. I will absolutely order the salad again. read more
