Our little date night turned into a little mini journey to the north pole during the off-season! Decorated accordingly with the reefs, trees, and lights! Such a warm and inviting atmosphere, the lights are dimmed, and the dark wood accents make it quite an experience. We had the pleasure of having Shane as our server, and he was so sweet and attentive. We both opted for the Traditional Cut - ($56) - comes with half a yorshire pudding, creamed corn, and creamed spinach! Very generour portions. Super tender slice of meat, with the whipped horseradish, such a yummy bite! The complimentary bread was yummy dipped into the spinach and corn! The yorkshire pudding fell short, tasted stale and old. The side of the butter was cold and not quite spreadable. I feel like for the atmosphere and dining experience, it's attention to the details which garnered the 4 star instead of 5. Overall, we had a very memorable dinner! Thank you again, Shane! read more

My family has been coming here forever and we have never been disappointed. From the ambiance to the fun experience there's nothing that disappoints here at Gulliver's. The food is incredible, they are obviously known for their prime rib, so of course that's what we all get. Another really good food to take note of is their escargot, it's to die for! read more

The hostess and the old lady at the front didn't seem so welcoming. Our waiter, Shane, was awesome and had a great sense of humor. Shane made us felt comfortable and was helpful expressing which side dishes customers favored mostly. My boyfriend ordered dried aged bone in ribeye and I ordered the Gulliver's prime rib cut. Both steak was delicious, but the Gulliver's prime rib cut was the best and it came with a side of au jus. The side of corn was also delicious that I packed my leftovers to go. The ambiance has an old tavern feel and you can smell the aged furniture and decors, which I didn't care for. Most of it could be polished or upgraded because it leaves a lot of dust. Oh, the chairs were run down and I had to switch my chair with the other by my side. Overall, food was great and service was OK. read more

Ok this place has been around for 50+ years. This is a cool place once you are inside. Drinks are good food not so much. Twice baked potatoes is hard and crispy. The prime rib was tough and not really good. The cream corn was ok but not like the summit house. The horseradish was not good basically tasted less. The service was great that and decor are the reason for 3 stars food would be maybe a 2star. Not good read more

Great time last night. We walked in straight from the airport and enjoyed a wonderful happy hour at Gulliver's. There were so many good options to choose from on the bar menu plus well discounted happy hour items. They even had complimentary finger food for the patron to enjoy. We will definitely be back next time in Orange County. read more

After posting this review I received a message from the Manager of the restaurant and he was a great person to talk with and very compassionate on the experience that my friends and I had here. very apologetic and definitely didn't want things to be left on a bad note. I am willing to give this place another shot in the future, not sure when but with the gestures of having a manager reach out to apologize and want to know what all happen to help improve the experiences for everyone does go pretty far and shows that they do care about the customer experiences at their restaurant. read more

Made a reservation for a saturday night, for the bar area. Was seated in the small room where the fireplace is. Sat in a nice table/half booth in the corner of the room. Location is stuck in time and that's what makes it cool. We ordered crab cakes and spinach artichoke dip to start. Of course you also get sourdough bread and focaccia. Main dish was the prime rib, which comes with creamed corn, cream spinach and bread pudding. Washed it down with a few gin and tonics. It was all good. Service was good. I I also think you get your adult bevs sitting closer to the bar. Plenty of parking, but recommend you get a reservation (open table or via their website) cuz it seems like the place gets crowded real fast like. read more

Our go-to restaurant for anniversaries and seasonal holidays. As always, made a reservation on-line. The evening's ambiance commenced upon entering the front door. We were warmly greeted by the old guard Host. Being ahead of schedule we meandered into Lemuel's Pub for a toddy... or two. It was nice to visit with the bartender and his garçon. Both staff are always warm, courteous, and professional. We suddenly recalled why we came. We were escorted to our table by the Garçon and Host (carrying our drinks). We were fortunate to again have waiter Tony. Our meals were scrumptious: Filet Mignon, Rack of Lamb, Prime Rib. And our feast was topped off by an English Trifle (with 4 forks!). We are now patiently awaiting an excuse to return. read more

I was excited to try this place because I had heard good things. I was not impressed. My mother ordered a steak and turned it back because it was so thin and looked inedible. She kindly asked for the prime rib instead, seeing as that was their specialty. The waitress made it apparent she was not happy with the request, although I appreciated that she tried to hide it with kindness for the remainder of our meal. The chairs were a bit uncomfortable and the interior looks like it could use some remodeling. The entry to the restaurant looks very cute with a fireplace and chairs to enjoy a cocktail, but otherwise, I would spend the money (which was expensive, even for lunch) at one of the other restaurants nearby. I gave this review a 3 stars because I appreciated the style that the restaurant was going for and how most of the staff was polite. It seems like this is a place that has frequent diners, so there is a charm that they appreciate. It was just not my cup of tea. read more

Came here on a Wednesday night and it was PACKED! Luckily we made reservations online through Open Table and that was the way to go. This place is definitely quite an experience, which is good and bad. The good: staff was wonderful, attentive, and friendly. The food was pretty good and definitely was filling. There was a large variety of things on the menu which provides for everyone to get their needs met. The house wine that was recommended with the prime rib was a great recommendation. The not-so-good: The seating was awkward and there was not much space to be in. The restaurant was very loud and it was hard to really have a conversation but luckily we were in a booth that protected us some. The cost for the quality of the food was not what I would have expected but I also am keeping in mind that this is an older establishment. The restroom was very cramped, which makes it hard as well for others. read more

We had various appetizers and enjoyed them all. Our party of 12 ordered both steak and salmon entrees. I personally loved the salmon. Many enjoyed their cuts of meat. Not really being a carnivore, I honestly couldn't tell you what the cuts were but they all enjoyed them. The service was fantastic. Our servers were attentive and went above and beyond to meet our needs. The actual structure and decor is very dated...very dated. The bathrooms need serious renovations. The paper towel dispenser wouldn't stay closed. The wallpaper is from the 80's?? The Christmas decor was festive and enjoyable and old. All in all, a great experience. So sorry but I did not take any pictures. Too busy chatting. read more

My sisters and I had a wonderful time tonight at Gulliver's Restaurant. From the amazing service with our waiter Shane, to the fun picture taking hostess at the front desk who took our picture at our table, to the delicious food that was brought to the table!! We ordered tasty salmon, juicy prime beef bones, roasted duck, and the best plate being the surf and turf!!! Even the creamed corn was like none we've ever had. Thank you Shane for creating a fun and relaxing environment for us as we ate, laughed, and took pictures in this unique looking 1800's English setting. We'll be back to try the other delicious desserts in the menu. Our crème brûlée and double chocolate truffle gelato were epic!! Thank you again!! read more

We had dinner reservations for NYE. They were running a little behind so we had drinks at the bar. Ordered pinot original and mellow, both were fairly priced. For dinner in the main room, we sat in a booth. Ordered the house prime rib with creamed corn, creamed spinach and I forgot the name of the last side. My mom who is a prime rib snob used horseradish and the sauce and loved the prime rib. I also liked it as well, but I was unable to finish it (probably bc I stuffed some of the bread in my belly). Overall, it was a good experience and I would recommend it here. read more

My wife and me dined at Gulliver's Friday night 2/13/26. Our reservation was 6:45pm. We were seated just before 7pm. Service was very slow. I waited over 20 minutes for the soup I ordered to arrive. The prime rib dinners we ordered did not arrive until well past 8pm. Three 8oz Long Island Iced Teas cost $25.00 each, a $75.00 charge which to say the least was a blatant rip off. Food was excellent, ambiance very good, but slow service and a bar bill gouging put a real damper on our evening. read more

Had family dinner to celebrate mom's 69th birthday. Service was excellent and food quality amazing. Ambience wasn't what's expected from usual prime rib/steakhouse but offered a warm English pub sense of atmosphere that was welcoming for a family dining experience. Back to food, prime rib portion sizes were huge! I had a rib eye steak grilled to perfection and every bite was truly enjoyable. Early servings of warm break baskets and escargot appetizers were perfect amuse bouche to warm the taste palette. Definitely would need to go back for more! read more

Had a great experience here in late November with all the Christmas lights and companion items out in a festive display around the restaurant. In Denmark they call this "hygge" and a "hyggligt" place (cozy place). The overall sound volume inside is low, so you can actually have a good dinner conversation! I had the aged ribeye with bone. Came with potato and spinach. Fabulous! Service was top notch from the start we walked in! read more

Such a beautifully decorated restaurant for Christmas. Christmas music, Christmas movies playing in the bar, tons of gorgeous decorations. Everyone goes here for the traditional prime rib, and it doesn't disappoint. Great service, great food....great place to get you in the holiday spirit. The bar is also very cozy and decorative for Christmas. My only suggestion would be to offer some Christmas cocktails and maybe a special holiday dessert. I think they would do really well. The bar is prettier than any Christmas themed pop up bar I've been to, it is really done up beautifully. Bartender was really sweet and we talked to other nice couples grabbing a drink and/or having an informal dinner at the bar. read more

Recommendation: get the mushroom soup! You have to REALLY like mushrooms! Had dinner on Thanksgiving, which I enjoyed, but my spouse did not. Went again the week before Christmas and they had their full menu. We ordered the steak (we always get the prime rib) and it was fatty and difficult to cut. Any restaurant can't have an off night, but, unfortunately, I ended up with food poisoning. 2 stars off for that. Staff is always very nice and waitress Debra was wonderful. She even knew the correct pronunciation of "Blefuscudians." The friends we were with enjoyed the food and, of course, we enjoyed the atmosphere. I always enjoy the triffle, because this fat kid loves cake! Will be back again next holiday season should I live that long. read more

Gulliver's has been a favorite since the 1970s when my father would bring us to enjoy the prime rib all the way from the valley. I happen to be in Orange County and decided to take my son for lunch. We ordered the dinner prime rib because I wanted the sides that come with the dinner instead of the sides that come with lunch. I am a big prime rib lover and I just have to say I will never be back to Gulliver's again. With both of our prime rib steaks you could tell the meat was going to be crappy either it needed to be cooked longer or the whole fillet that it was cut from was just crap. It was very hard to the touch and there was no outer rim of the juicy prime rib, and that's my favorite. My son ate more than half of his but said it was the worst he's ever had and I only had a couple bites. The waiter noticed and asked me and I told him it was bad not a good piece of meat at all. I didn't ask but they kindly took one of the dinners off my bill. I still paid $85 for lunch. I'm just going to say the server was excellent the decor was very holiday spirited and I loved it. But if the kitchen serves subpar food it's going to ruin your business. And what we were served wasn't even as good as what I could get at sizzlers, and it was $40 more. It's a big shame when the kitchen doesn't care about the quality that they present. read more

I was in town for the weekend and had an amazing dinner experience with my brothers at Gulliver's... The ambiance has this old school steakhouse vibe, complete with dark wooden, floors, tables, brick fireplace, that makes you feel like you're in a massive ski resort lodge. BUT some of the decor is inspired by Gulliver's Travels, unique indeed. There's a John Wayne table where the Duke himself used to dine, very cool. The service was outstanding and we had a main server backed up by some amazing staff. The kitchen had our appetizers to the table quickly which we appreciated. Escargot - absolutely delish and gets the dinner started well. Spinach Dip - served in a bread bowl was yum, creamy and I'd order again. Prime Rib - Medium Rare, hearty sized and prepped to perfection. The chefs really do have their craft down here for the prime rib. I'm digging this restaurant and will definitely visit again when I'm in the area and I'm fiending for a delicious Prime Rib evening. Cheers! read more

Been coming to Gullivers restaurant in Costa Mesa for around twenty years to celebrate Christmas or New Year's Eve. Love the holiday decorations, service and food. My husband and I usually order prime rib. I decided to order the rack of lamb this time. Good but my husband's prime rib was excellent as usual. Highly recommend it. read more

Fantastic Birthday Dinner! This is THE place for prime rib in the OC! We had an incredible birthday dinner at Gulliver's! The service was top-notch, and the July 4th decorations added a festive touch. We started with the filet mignon bruschetta--a unique and savory treat. The clam chowder and Caesar salad were both delicious. The prime rib stole the show--perfectly cooked, tender, and flavorful. We loved the twice-baked potatoes and all-you-can-eat cream corn. The salmon was also excellent. Too full for dessert this time, but their crème brûlée with raspberries is always a favorite. Can't wait to return! read more

Wow! You've driven past it hundreds of times leaving John Wayne. You scratched your head, "wonder if that place any good?". Well, do it! Crazzzy good prime rib. Soft and tender. Like cake. Served with creamed spinach and creamed corn (which was shockingly sweet like a dessert). Dining here is like being transported to some old lodge in England. Or maybe Game of Thrones. Established in 1970.

Gulliver's evokes images of 18th century England, Jonathan Swift, the adventures of Captain Lemuel Gulliver and the gracious hospitality of an English roadside inn. Its warm, inviting interior is a place you'll want to return to with your friends and family again and again - whether to share a round of drinks in the lively pub or celebrate a social occasion with a sumptuous Prime Rib feast. It isn't hard to find a restaurant serving Prime Rib and Steak in Orange County, but how many can seat you at John Wayne'sfavorite table? To be honest, she did forget about us. A waiter walked up to us and asked us what was going on (we were standing there for around 7 - 10 minutes) and we told him we had a reservation for the speakeasy. He immediately apologized and sat us. This camp themed speakeasy has a couple booths. It's on the smaller sides. Which, speakeasy's are usually small to begin with. I did not get the waitresses name, my friend and I were busy catching up. The waitress was nice, but not attentive. I will say service was a 2/5. However, the actual restaurant, cozy pine is located in, was packed because of the World Cup being on TV. So I definitely was not going to complain The food Our food order did come out extremely FAST. Faster than our drink orders. -the campfire guacamole -BBQ shoestring fries (had bbq seasoning all over them so it tasted like a BBQ potato chip) -Glamping plate (charcuterie board) -steak tacos (one without onion and cilantro -churro affogato Again, the food was VERY fast!! This past Friday night, the bar was not busy, yet Jacqueline, the bartender, repeatedly ignored us. After our first drinks, we tried to order a second round and flagged her down several times, but she showed no interest in helping us. Her behavior came across as dismissive, rude, and completely uncalled for. I had not been back to The Swinging Door in a long time because of a similar experience, but I previously chalked it up to the bar being busy that night. Unfortunately, this visit confirmed that poor customer service continues to be an issue. No one goes to a bar on a Friday night expecting to be ignored or treated poorly by the bartender. Lesson learned. I sincerely hope management retrains its bartending staff and reminds them that being attentive and kind to customers is a basic part of the job.

Dear Dennis, There are moments in life when words simply aren't enough, and this is one of them. Hearing that Gulliver's is closing permanently has truly been soul-crushing. For us, Gulliver's was never just a restaurant--it was a place where memories were made, traditions were born, and holidays became magical. We wanted to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for everything you gave to all of us over the years. The time, talent, creativity, and even your own personal expense that you poured into making Halloween and Christmas so extraordinary never went unnoticed. You created experiences that brought joy not only to children, but to adults who were fortunate enough to experience that same wonder year after year. Those holidays at Gulliver's became part of our lives. They became part of our family's story. It is heartbreaking to know that chapter has come to an end. Our hope is that another restaurant, venue, or organization recognizes the incredible gift you have and gives you the opportunity to continue sharing it with others. My recent visit to Gulliver's Restaurant was nothing short of a nightmare. From the moment we walked in, we were hit with a strong toilet smell, which immediately put us off. We decided to sit outside, thinking it would be better, but the tables and chairs were filthy, and we had to wait for someone to come and clean them. To make matters worse, we saw mice running around on the floor, which was absolutely shocking. When our food finally arrived, it was clear that the quality was severely lacking. The server informed us that the beef was pre-cooked and merely warmed up before being served. In fact, he admitted that all the items in the restaurant are just reheated. No wonder the food was tasteless and lacked any freshness. There was no management presence to address these issues, and it felt like the entire experience was a waste of money. To top it all off, I ended up with a stomach flu after eating there. I strongly advise against dining at Gulliver's Restaurant. It was a deeply unpleasant experience from start to finish. read more

One of my favorite restaurants to dine at. Good hearty food, prime rib and creamed corn to die for. Love all the Halloween decor, and amazing service by Kathy. Can't wait to go back during the holidays !! I have been a patron of Gulliver's for over 20 years and I am sad to see that other people would stoop so low as to start a smear campaign that is completely untrue and unethical. My family and I have been patrons here for over 20 years, and we have always been treated with the upmost respect. I would like to disclose that we too have gay couples in our family that have dined with us numerous times at the restaurant. We were always treated with the upmost respect , hence still enjoying this establishment 20 years later. As a business owner myself, I will not stand by as another business gets smeared by one unhappy customer. In an effort to mix things up this year, we decided to visit Gulliver's, a local gem in Irvine. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with a warm hello and an incredibly friendly staff. The reception area was adorned with festive holiday decorations, which instantly put us in the mood for some holiday cheer. We were fortunate enough to be seated in Jonathan's Study, which made our visit even more special. Sitting by the fireplace created such a cozy and inviting atmosphere. As for the menu, it was simply delightful. The special Thanksgiving offering included a hearty turkey platter with all the fixins - mashed yams and stuffing. We couldn't resist trying a few other selections as well ie Creamed Corn, Caesar Salad, and Crab Cakes. Everything was delicious and truly made our Thanksgiving memorable. Kudos to Gulliver's for providing an exceptionally pleasant and festive Thanksgiving experience. We realized how much we've missed this charming spot and will definitely be back soon. read more

Best prime rib I've ever had. I'll talk about the cream of corn later.. that deserves its full whole section. The service was good, got seating that I wanted, much appreciated. I believe it was the manager maybe or the owner who kept making rounds asking how we were which was a much lovely touch. The server was friendly even though she couldve filled our drinks a bit more.Being my boyfriend and I's first time we both got prime rib, I had the gullivers prime cut which was more than enough for myself, and my boyfriend got the brob, which was shocking when it arrived, succulent and jaw droppingly big. Every bite was enjoyable even when I knew I couldnt stuff myself anymore!! Now the cream of corn..... there's no words that can sum how I feel about their side dish. So hot and warm when it came out and sweet with the perfect corn. I wish I got more! Best I've ever had, normally places use too much cream but here it was jusssst perfect. I really wanted to love our experience at Gulliver's. The ambiance has a charming, old-school vibe, and we were warmly welcomed by the host, which started things off on a high note. Our server, Debra, was lovely--attentive, friendly, and clearly trying her best to make us feel at home. Unfortunately, the food just didn't live up to expectations. The steak, which should've been the star of the show, arrived completely unseasoned--it lacked even the basics, like salt or any depth of flavor. The creamed spinach had an oddly earthy, almost dirty taste that made it hard to enjoy, and the red wine selection was underwhelming and didn't pair well with the meal at all. It's always disappointing when you're hoping for a special night out and things fall flat, especially when the service is genuinely good. My husband comes here often, as his workplace is close by and his team comes to this place. He brought me to this place. I didnt enjoy as much as he does. I would give this place A for interior and service. I wasn't sold on the food. My husband raves about the meat, every time he gets to eat here. Maybe its just not my type. It was much easier to get a seat on weekend, they have an online reservation. We reserved our tables around 20-30 mins before we went to the place and we didnt even have to mention it to the host; as there were many spots open. Anyway, I am not sure if I will give this place another try. WIll have to if my husband insists.And what is it with that weird aluminum plate?! I know it gave the whole decor a cohesive look, but I would never eat on such a thing. read more

I have to say it was a bit confusing. I read about this place and saw many different opinions. Mostly I saw bad reviews talking about the decor and great reviews talking about the food & service. I thought I'd try it since my wife and I are huge prime rib fans. I can see how some folks mind the decor because it is old 18th century England (but that is the theme people...). Any way, the food was awesome and the service was superb. I can't believe someone wrote that the creamed corn had no taste. It was probably one of the best things I have ever had!! Oh, and did I forget to mention that the Prime Rib was amazing, just as good as Lawrys but a lot less painful to our bank account. So to summerize, yes the decor can be a bit overwhelming, but the food & service were great. read more

Time for an updated review. My husband and I met two friends here for dinner last Friday and the prime rib (bone-in) and bread pudding were even better than when we ate at Gulliver's in early 2020! Their creamed corn is so yummy. Dennis provided such great service--he checked on us often but not too often. We were a little nervous about eating indoors (we've only eaten at 3-4 outdoor restaurants during COVID), but because this restaurant is large it's easy for them to provide healthy social distancing between tables. And they have a nice outdoor patio with heat lamps if you prefer. If you're ready to dine out again and enjoy an outstanding meal, put Gulliver's on your list! read more

Last week we bought a group on for this restaurant. Always heard about it but never had the chance to go there. What a wonderful experience we had. Once you walk in you feel you're in a completely different world, back a couple of centuries ago. The staff is very warm and welcoming and the food was solid all around. The prime rib, which you must have (since it is a prime rib house) was one of the best I've ever had. But watch out, the creamed corn which they serve complimentary with endless refills is soooo ridiculously amazing you might just get full on that alone. Overall a great experience. Not only is this place extremely unappetizing, and yes they were recently closed for a cockroach infestation but they recently refused to seat a gay couple side by side at their restaurant on Valentine's Day. Please make sure to avoid this dilapidated, outdated and despicable restaurant if not for the prejudice then for the nasty roach infestation. I will be sure to never never never ever EVER eat at this abomination of a 'restaurant' again...oh and as a social media manager with access to hundreds of thousands and thousands of people I will be making sure to broadcast how bigoted and disgusting this restaurant was. This restaurant deserves 5 stars. I was blown away by the service and friendliness at this place. Nit sure why they sit couples in the edges facing the groups. I felt like in old England where the audience could throw tomatoes at you from the sides. It's good that I have entertaining relatives. I'm not a prime rib or steak guy. So everything on the menu is very rich, fatty but delicious. Fried pork belly was one of the best appetizers ever. 2 people got served creamed corn on our arms. Good thing the waiter was very entertaining. Desserts were too sweet and passable for me. Pork chops I heard we're good and also the ribs. read more

I have been coming here for years. This place is really good and the price is not all that bad. The prime rib is a must but I never get the creamed spinach but instead I get the twice baked potato. The cream corn is so good and they will even give you the recipe if you ask for it. The service is a bit on the slow side but when you come here you just sort of relax and however long it takes is how long it takes. I always do the prime rib but I have tried the filet with Bearnaise's sauce and that is very good. It's a great place to bring a date or for a special family dinner. read more

Is it me or is the quality of their prime rib going downhill? Came here last month, 4 of us got the prime rib, my sister got the end cut, we all got the rare prime rib mid cut. Sides are still delicious such as their cream corn or creamy spinach. We all commented that our pieces of prime rib was pretty fatty, all 4 of us....maybe it was that chunk of beef? Service is always on point- we had a party of 6 and our server was great. We were just questioning the quality of the beef with our last visit. Most importantly my wife and I were extremely impressed by the manager. He was VERY VERY polite and friendly. Great service, food, and atmosphere. We work in the service industry and think this is the new old place to go. Gulliver's is a great place for the service industry crowd as well as happy hour aficionados. Free food during happy hour and secret industry menu that cant be beat. It turned out to be hours of fun talking to new friends. A couple leaving back to Phoenix, a person having a quick cocktail, a gentleman ruminating retirement, and finally a friend to celebrate his birthday. I felt so welcome and taken care of by the bartenders Robyn, Sophie, and Michelle. They were very nice and helped me select Orin Swift Cabernet Sauvignon. I was told the BBQ Pork Ribs were Fork Tender and they weren't joking, served with coleslaw and fries. My friend celebrated his birthday with the Hawaiian prime Ribeye steak and baked potatoes with all the trimmings (which was amazing). For birthday dessert Izzy served us a warm Apple Cobbler with Vanilla ice cream. She was a gracious and personable server who made sure our glasses were not empty and our bellies were full.
