Maybe I'm just not a German food kind of guy, but I just didn't particularly enjoy the food. It was very standard sausages and pickled vegetables. Also, the server was a bit unfriendly. They were pretty busy so maybe she was just overworked. If you're by Catskill, go elsewhere for food.

I really don't understand why this isn't 5 stars!!!! Everything from the decor to the ambiance to the food to the service was amazing. The food was so fresh and the service was extremely friendly. We came for a late lunch and we each got a different dish. I got the pork panini, my friend got the curry wurst and my other friend got the goulash. We also shared the mushroom appetizer and I got a cappuccino. Everything came out hot and seasoned soooo well. I love this entire place and it's such a hidden gem!!! For dessert we got the bier-amisu and the coconut tart which I both highly recommend. I'm definitely coming back here for dinner!

Please eat here!! The gluten free baked goods were so yummy, and the scenery was pristine. This place has amazing views, and it was impeccable. I have lived here for 10 years and never knew about this place. I will be coming back!

Every time we come here we leave full and happy. Definitely worth a visit. Try the crepes and the charred cabbage slaw. Coffee is hot and strong. Great service too!

This was a hidden Gem!!! If you are close, you definitely need to spot by. Amazing food and very fair prices!

We stopped in for lunch on a chilly, rainy day in Fall and it felt like I was transformed to a village in Bavaria. I'm pretty sure I became fluent in German just by being there. As soon as you walk in you are visually treated by a cozy bakery with the most amazing pretzels and goodies. The interior has a wide open rustic ski chalet alpine vibe and great views of the local apple orchards. So naturally, once we seen the pretzels up front, that was a must order. Slight problem is when you order the menu pretzel, it get the pretzel roll with honey mustard sauce. Okay, its not the end of the world but I would love to see that pretzel up front on the table. The menu is chocked full of amazing items to choose from and it was hard to pick just one. One thing I knew that was getting ordered was the herb and cheese spätzle. It was topped with fried onion and the most German comfort food you can get. We also ordered the Weisswurst plate, pfannenkuchen and the Hungarian goulash sandwich. All three are their own specialty and would get again. Problem is I want to try everything on the menu. I'll be back again!! Prost...

Food was amazing. Ask for Ashley as a server. She was amazing. Ambiance overlooking an apple orchard. The owners not as pleasant. Must order dessert.

Great place for drinks and dinner! Indoor and outdoor seating available. It is beautiful on the deck in the summer. The haus salad, burger and potato pancakes are some of our favorites. Cute bakery too

The Gunk Haus is always a lovely experience. I usually order the chicken salad and it is so yummy. The drinks are crafted perfectly and the service is always exceptional. The owners are always so lovely and inviting.

    Pinkish, glistening chicken. :-(

Gorgeous location, with amazing views. They were short staffed the night we arrived, and service was a bit slow. We'd asked for deck heaters to be turned on, but they never got around to it. I ordered the chicken cordon bleu against by better judgment (should have gone with a schnitzel!), and it was concerningly pink. Yes, I know that ham/bacon is involved, but the chicken itself just didn't look or "feel" right. Luckily, it didn't affect my digestive tract negatively, but I wasn't thrilled in the moment.

    Apple-rol spritzer! A new favorite!

Cheerfully greeted by a nice person who was thrilled someone was trying her restaurant for the first time. Seemed it would be a pleasure! Banter! Joy! The location is adorable - an historic inn with lovely interior stone walls a nice bar, a dining room hung with farm implements and your usual skinny staircase and sunny porch. Absolutely thrilled by the continental and sometimes quirky selections (sweet and sour schnitzel? Why not!) Ordered quickly, letting the waitress know of time constraints. Half an hour later she brought the salad course. An hour after that, the manager or maître d' -- she never said but she did clearly have some authority and was the boss of the waitress--stopped by to inform the table that the delay was potato pancakes. The chef had apparently felt compelled to make a whole new batch of potato pancakes from scratch. And therefore it was our fault the food was taking so long. This would make sense if the table next to us wasn't also waiting twenty minutes for buffalo wings. And if our waters had been refilled. And if there were apologies rather than resigned excuses. The explanation landed like a desperate attempt at humor as the Titanic made a turn directly for the iceberg. No offer of even a comped cup of coffee, not a glass of wine, or even a sincere wish that things would go faster. We could do nothing but feel sorry for her and her staff in this wonderful little local inn and wonder who the monster was who is running the kitchen -- my beef stroganoff was terrific but the plate that made us late held a couple of small sausages, a large scoop of red cabbage and three jam-lid sized mashed potato fritters which could just as easily have been replaced by literally any starch... it was ninety minutes start to finish in this bizarre mystery of a restaurant. Was the chef on strike? Having a bad day? His front of house worked so very hard to cover for him. I have only sadness for this glorious little place - my favorite kind, locally owned, delicious dishes, deep pours. But I will only go back when I don't have a long drive ahead of me -- or perhaps for a laugh with people from the City who don't know how to slow down.

But sometimes, depending where you're…read moreat, it's about having good food and drinks too and not even about looking for those Instagram staples anymore. Here at Reservoir Inn in West Hurley, NY- just a few minutes away from Woodstock, you'll feel like you've stepped back in time with the stone walls, rural location feel, displayed antique farming tools and a serious, cozy cabin feel where you can almost unwind. All it's missing is a fireplace with a roaring fire to add a warm glow during dinner. Hubs went by the not-so-rave reviews- plus, it's close to home. What adds an odd charm, is right when you're finished with dinner and head to your car, the sky is pitch dark- especially now since it's getting darker earlier with nothing to your left or right. And the only sounds you'll hear are the hoot of an owl and the gentle swish of leaves. The best spot in the house is the buzzing dining room. But while the dining room may appear large- there are no tables in the middle space. At least 6-7(?) tables line the walls and the covered patio has another few tables- so a reservation is a must. From seafood to poultry to bratwurst to pasta to falafel, etc, Reservoir's international menu is a very nice one. As we were told by locals, Reservoir Inn has changed hands with a new chef who's bringing his culinary school background and upped the entire game here. Conversation was super friendly from our bartender Karen and our server. Hubs went for the prime rib- but asked for an unusual request: for it to be charred. Kudos to the chef who still kept the meat to medium and added that char request. My teriyaki shrimp and udon was beyond plentiful. The shrimp were juicy- but the teriyaki made the udon a bit salty. Obviously the regulars seem to be coming back from what we noticed. Every detail of Reservoir adds a mood of simplicity combined with the unexpected and comfort.

The dining is traditional and we loved it. The style is European inside and you feel transported to a foreign time and place. Soaring ceilings with old world timbers and large baronial fireplaces are a perfect setting for the feast to come. We are ice water people when we dine out so I can't comment on their drinks but they have a top reputation for offering a wine cellar that is famously stocked full of rare bottles. And available for a special event. We started with a homemade tomato soup and it was everything. Expect local and the most flavorful vegetables here. Real cream on top. Then we ate the most wonderful Wiener Schnitzel ( the veal was pure white) again with perfectly steamed local cauliflower, carrots and peas. The brown sauce was well made and perfectly smooth and complex with a delicious stock underpinning the finished product. For desert we had a very traditional Swiss chocolate sauce and vanilla ice cream sundae. It was simply wonderful. Such a good choice for a special meal. Service I should mention was impeccable and attentive. We noticed several large family tables but the dining room is laid out so there seem to be no bad tables as had been mentioned on another review. It's a white tablecloth dining experience and a reservation is needed. Parking in front. The sedate calm of the restaurant is a setting for conversation and appreciation of the unusually divine cuisine available here.

It was founded by husband and wife Mikael and Alicia Moller. Mikael started out as a restaurant apprentice in Sweden when he was just 13. He immigrated to New York City in 1981 and worked at several high-profile restaurants. Mikael met Charlotte when he began working as a chef for Charlotte's Catering where she was also working. After marrying in 1989, they bought the catering business. After a trip to Millbrook, they fell in love with the area and wanted to open a restaurant in town. They purchased the building that housed Allyn's Restaurant in 2006 and renamed it "Charlotte's Restaurant". The location was built in the 19th century as a church before being converted into a theater and finally a restaurant space. My wife and I recently dined at Charlotte's while we were visiting Millbrook. We were celebrating our sixth anniversary with a stay at Wing's Castle nearby. Charlotte's came highly recommended. We really liked all of the Autumn decor adorning the dining room. We started things off with some Autumn-inspired cocktails: I had the "Apple Pie Martini" while my wife had the "Warm Cider with Spiced Rum". They both really hit the spot. For entrees, I had the "Cornish Game Hen (with quinoa, butternut squash, pickled sweet peppers and rosemary sauce) while my wife had the "Creamy Lobster Mac & Cheese" (Maine lobster, bacon bits, herbed bread crumb with mixed greens and citrus vinaigrette). We both really enjoyed our food! After the dessert menu came around, we decided to share a delicious "Apple Galette" (local Granny Smith apple, sweet pastry crust, vanilla ice cream). It was a perfect way to end an excellent meal. We really enjoyed our experience at Charlotte's and highly recommend them for anyone visiting Millbrook!
